Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Friday that flags at the White House and other federal buildings will be flown at half staff until Veterans Day in recognition of the shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.

"This is a modest tribute to those who lost their lives even as many were preparing to risk their lives for their country," he said at the White House.

"It's also a recognition of the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our safety and uphold our values."

Obama said he met Friday morning with FBI Director Robert Mueller and other federal agency heads to discuss the ongoing investigation into the massacre.

"We don't know all of the answers yet, and I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all of the facts," he said.

The alleged shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a psychiatrist who worked in a hospital at Fort Hood, is blamed for the deaths of 12 soldiers and one civilian, military officials said.

Another 30 people were wounded; 28 of them required hospitalization.

Immigrants from certain nations should be expelled form this country. I would like to thank Obama and all the socialist liberals who support him and want America to collapse. You all are strengthening us and making us see what this country truely needs. Our history was glorious when things were different. Liberals you have changed, and if you keep bringing America is this direction where people are attacked and you refuse to accept the correct reason for their harm then US TRUE AMERICANS WILL FIGHT!

    AND, 9/11 happened under who's administration ? ? ?

I cannot believe the vulgarity and disrespect people have for our President. Racisim will always be a part of our society if we all continue on this vendetta of hate.........God Bless the future generations that will have their hands full fighting hate.....

Did he order the flags half-staff before or after he gave a "shout out" to his buddies? What a despicible president.

Must we as a matter of convinience blame President Obama for everything that happens in the entire world today? People are calling him monkey!!! Well, take it or leave it, you have a monkey as your President! This guy IS an American like all of us, he snapped. Who knows why. What can we tell the host of muslim families who have lost their very own in these wars that should not have been? Someone somewhere right now is probably linking the President to the shooter. We will hear it in the next 12 hours.

These were good people, whites and hispanics, men and women. They were serving our nation, our freedoms, and our values. They had dreams, families, and friends.

How can you keep telling us to be accepting of Arabs when they don't accept us? Arabs have killed Amercians, GOOD AMERICANS!

It not racist or prejudicial to be aware that there is an enemy and you know who they are. The first step to defense is to be aware of the threat. Bury your heads in the sand if you wish. Pretend the world is safe. Pretend this is an isolated incident.

Tim McVeigh was a White, Christian, American, military man who blew up a federal building that killed women and children. In the 1950's when Christians lynched and killed blacks people., was that a real religion? Do we judge all white Christian men by the acts of Tim McVeigh?

I do not blame Obama for this, nor do I blame Bush. There is an enemy that has attacked us time and time again even before Bush. Americans wake up and do some research. We have long been attacked at our embassies; our embassies are considered US soil.
I will stand by Israel any day. They have proven to be our friends.

As a Christian, I take great offense at this fool invoking the name of God. Sadly, the president says don't jump to conclusions. Is this surreal, or is this surreal? He was quick to jump on the white cop involving the black professor. Remember?

At an attempt at kum baya – I pledge to all of my Obamist friends here to give him as much praise and respect as they gave George Bush during his eight years in office. Sound fair ? I thought you would agree !

So how's the "let's all be friends" working out?

Just watch. This will be found out to have been something that could have been prevented, but due to the President's decisions on the CIA and other things, will have occurred when it could have been prevented.

Guess the hand-holding, kumbayah stuff doesn't work as well as thought, eh?

Be careful my friends! Don't let fear into yours hearts. This killer at Fort Hood did and God was not with him. Do not hate Obama or Bush. Again anyone who blames one person for the worlds pain is a victim of fear. Think about how fear turns beautiful loving people into craven cowards. You could say 911 turned Americans fearful. Whats the next step? Revenge. This incident is a shame because it will only strengthen people fears. We will all die someday. Why can humans not accept this without fear. I feel very bad for any human who has suffered a violent death at the hands of fear and cowardice. It does not matter your religon or race or patriotic views.

Hope Obama is consistent and gives more press conference 'shout outs' before any future somber updates to the American people on the Fort Hood tragedy. Gotta love true leadership when you see it!

Wouldn't you know that the radicals of this country (far right wing conservative republicans) would blame this on Muslums, Arabs......most of you making these remarks are cowards who never fought a day for this country, but you expect the rest of Americans to do the fighting for you........Bush is to Blame it you want to blame it on someone........these men an women are serving 3 and sometimes 4 tours of duty, no wonder they come home messed up and commiting suiside. Even in Vietnam they only had to go do their 13 months and came home, they didn't have to keep going back......we have to few men and women and are stretching them to thin.........so step up to the plate and do your part for this country, instead of Blaming everything on somebody else go serve your country........Your THANK YOU'S to the men and women in uniform is pretty hollow when you can't do your part for this country.

May God bless the victims and their families. people are idiots (including me) and will always blame each other or the government but how many of us will actually pray for victims and do something for their families to ease their pain. would we even remember them one month from now?

    Sincerely,
    A Muslim

I love how eveything gets turned on its head and comes around to either Obama or welfare or even healthcare. How about we focus on the situation which was a person went nuts and shot a bunch of innocent people. Regardless of his religion/race/ethnic background, the bottom line is this guy went out and decided to hurt innocent people. Now a bunch of you people say that violence begets violence but i bet you dont even for a second think of the police officer who had a gun and took the guy down was wrong do you? Or suddenly is some violence ok and others not>? to this i say yes. I like the fact that ordinary citizens can be armed and if possible prevent this very tragedy from happening, because when you get down to the basics, a criminal will always find a weapon and if the population is unarmed and un ready to meet this violence head on, they will control US.

    Dominican Mama,

HOW DARE YOU??? This "man", and I use the term loosely, took an oath to protect his country and his brothers and sisters in arms. He is not someone who just "snapped".

He planned this, and most likely did not plan it alone.

    I love the double standard.

  21. all the news that's fit to omit

Obama is getting blamed for his shameful press conference AFTER.

Sniffit and Obama mama, I wore the uniform unlike either of you two did, save the blame Bush or other stupidity that comes out of either of your mouths.

GotReal, you need a dictionary, but then again, you DID vote for Obama, you can respond after Oprah is over or after the mailman comes.

Sheep, look at his press conference yesterday, all that was missing was "Put your hands in the air and wave them like you just don't care".

    Disgraceful.

I love it...every criticism lobbed at the president is immediately labeled a racist comment. Nothing like playing the race card when you have no valid points to argue.

Wolf...Grow up! All americans who voted can express there opinions on policies that are being presented to us even if their opinions differ from yours. That is called a democracy. This president has been caught lying since he took office. He has led with thug tactics throughout the year in office by threatening everybody who opposes his agenda yet you think that is ok? If so, you are part of the problem and not the solution.

Forgot to add this to my last comment. For those people criticizing the President for stating "We don't know all of the answers yet, and I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all of the facts," has it ever occured to you he might have learned from his past mistake? Think about it....
