Congrads to the Democrats. I guess the republicans will make many trips to the laundramat tonight with all the pants and panties they got in a mess. And on such an important vote I assume all republicans and democrats were present. But the might truthiness expert drudge said Nancy Pelosi had to sneak it in on a Saturday...tsk tsk tsk sour grapes sure shows.

Michael   November 8th, 2009 2:27 am ET

To God be the glory, I thank God for the 219 Democrats and 1 Republican for helping the people. It is time for change and the people need this, it is time to stop greedy insurance company and the people who they pay to back them. No matter what God is in control YES WE CAN, GOD IS LOVE GOD BLESS.

Matt   November 8th, 2009 2:13 am ET

If this bill gets passed the Senate, it will DESTROY the US economy.

Not only is it unsustainable, but for the costs, it doesn't even improve the current system. Yes, more people can be covered, but will they? And why did the democrats ignore THE OTHER options THAT WERE on the tabelPelosi and Obama lead a group of idiotic ideologs. Worst government leaders....EVER.

Jaison From NYC   November 8th, 2009 2:09 am ET

Anyone who works for Insurance compnay....they better start looking for a job in other field. They have robbed Americans year after year.

Congratulations to our lovely Congress for a majority vote on yet another piece of legislation which the majority have not read which most aren't aware of what is in it but they were told by their party to vote for it so they did.

As always our Congress knows best so even though the problems of healthcare could be attacked one piece of a time starting with fraud in Medicare and legal reform so that doctors don't perform unnecessary tests to cover their rear ends we instead are given a monstrosity of a bill. A big whose full effects won't be known until it is implementation and yet this vital piece of legislation which is so important won't be implemented until after the 2010 elections....

arch   November 8th, 2009 2:00 am ET

Well the little witch got what she wanted. But I can't believe she is too happy about the results. It doesn't look too good for it passing in the near future. It would be so great if she gets booted out next year. But with all the freaks in her district she most likely will get another term, but maybe she will be booted from the chair of the House. Can hope.

A. Smith   November 8th, 2009 1:58 am ET

After big Pharma puppets (The Republican Party) spent hundreds of millions of dollars in their extreme frenzy of lobbying pressure to avoid losing a single dollar to their bottom lines, they ended up losing because the Republican Party is not a majority in the House, nor in the Senate, nor are they in the White House.

Sadly and never mentioned nor covered by the News Media is the fact that Western Medical Practices increasingly add and heavily rely on multi-million dollar equipment for routine Western Medical practices.

Hospitals and Physician Groups which invest and continue adding to and re-purchasing these mega million dollar medical equipment, have no way to lower their operating expenses short of bankruptcy.

A top to bottom review of standard and routine western medical practices needs to be implemented if the public at large wish to begin seeing fair and reasonable medical expenses for average and routine medical procedures.

Lacking that, a major shift by medical consumers away from western medical practitioners to eastern or alternative medical licensed practitioners would force a change.

Any sizable loss of revenue by a Western Medical Hospital Group, or any Physician's Group would cause them to rethink their routine use of prohibitively expensive medical equipment for routine medical procedures.

The Momentum is there. The American People are finally going to have health care reform, and the GOP said it couldn't be done.

Now on to the Senate!

Mark My Words   November 8th, 2009 1:45 am ET

This just cost the Dems the majority in 2010. The Independents will be voting them out. Yea!

Mark My Words   November 8th, 2009 1:44 am ET

Stand by for higher taxes and poorer health care. You sheeple who support this bill can pay for my health care cost increases.

Steve in Las Vegas,NV   November 8th, 2009 1:30 am ET

Breaking news..Watch your taxes go sky high with Pelosicare. How is all of this going to be paid for?? They're not saying!

Risk of persuasion   November 8th, 2009 1:29 am ET

Obama said before, "I own GM," not we the American people own GM. Now thanks to selfish, we want it now, we want it "free" people, he owns us (for now). Haven't all of you noticed, the only time Obama uses the word "us" is when he wants something, and after he gets what he wants that he reverts back to "I"? Just because you "won" today does not mean you won't "lose" tomorrow, and I don't mean elections, I mean freedom.

AMEN and AMEN!!

I watched and it was a GREAT moment in American history. The Democrats have brought relief and real hope to all of us who are being abused by the insurance industry. This is REAL reform and will help every American have quality healthcare and never be denied coverage or bankrupted from medical bills again.

The Democratic healthcare bill was all about the PEOPLE. They get why they are in Congress and have delivered for us!

Well done Obama and Polosi. You have done what most Americans want you to do, not the extrem right wingnut and tea bagers. This victory is a blow to those who organized tea bagers to Capital Hill on Thursday for their own selfish interests. Americans have won and the haters have lost

Brenda J.   November 8th, 2009 1:07 am ET

I am absolutely elated by the bill passing tonight!!! The late Senator Kennedy is definitely singing in heaven. This is not only an historic moment in our time, but one that will help so many Americans including those who didn't want it to pass.

Cas   November 8th, 2009 1:05 am ET

Bit of clarification on that initial post regarding the rhetoric. This means you, America, left and right. We expect that from the politicians, they think it's expected of them. I mean you, my fellow American citizens. Let the politicians scream and yell at each other, that's part of what we pay them to do, but we, as citizens, were raised better. Don't stoop to a politician's level, folks, you know better.

Congradulations   November 8th, 2009 1:05 am ET

To all Obama supporters: Congradulations. This is the beginning of the end of the United States as we know it. You people make me sick. Go out and get a freaking job. If you can't find one, you are not looking hard enough. Farming and agriculture are some jobs that are hiring right now. There are many imigrants from hispanic countries working in these industries, just to prove my point. Quit looking for a hand out. The American people do not owe you a living. We don't owe you free health care. We don't owe you anything. If any of you want free health care, or any of the other 'Government' help, move to Switzerland, where the government pays for everything except your car and gas. Pay the 80 percent income tax that the Sweds have to pay. Have the government micro-manage your life like they do the lives of the Swedish people. Do not bring that here. We, the Tax Paying Public, do not want it. If you are not happy with America, LEAVE!!!!!!!!!

Cas   November 8th, 2009 12:58 am ET

CNN, are you breaking news or wind. It's epic fail if you misspell a 6-letter word in a 6 word headline. "House pases health care reform bill". Beyond that, its been over an hour since this was posted and I see no reader comments. I seriously doubt no one has had a thing to say, despite the late hour. I just came from Fox News, and you can bet that their followers are commenting. It's poor follow up on your part. And there are probably many like me who don't watch on the tv, so this just looks unprofessional. Closing that rant, I'm glad to see that reform is moving forward. It ain't what any of us want *exactly*, but then again, it doesn't look like anything close to what a final bill will anyway. I wish both sides of the American public could cool the rhetoric a bit. The name calling and threats don't do a thing to right the ship, and the instigators are perfectly happy with that. They profit most when we are adrift. Peaceful dreams all.

Indy   November 8th, 2009 12:47 am ET

well thank god the gov is so useless and wastefull, I find it so funny those who will celebrate like something incredible happened but it just shows how stupid people are, we have many many many more of these before they get close to passage, by then these people will lose their seats.

JM   November 8th, 2009 12:35 am ET

"It may pass out of the House tonight. We do realize that," Jenny Beth Martin, event organizer for the Tea Party Patriots, said. "But there is the Senate still. And we are going to leave no stone unturned and fight the government taking over our health care."

This was a comment on another article here at CNN. Ideally, no I don't want the government taking over the insurance industry, but the insurance industry clearly can't get it right on its own, so obviously they need some help and if its the government that has to help them then so be it. My biggest problem with insurance is denying people coverage based on pre-existing conditions. That's B/S. Do they really think that people have any control or power over that?? The House version covers that and hopefully the Senate version will too. If the insurance companies would just get their heads out of their backsides and stop denying coverage in cases like this then it would be a lot less of a problem.

I think that the Demcrats just wanted to put a Win in Obamas column. This became all about winning and handing out awards at the end of the day. I voted Democrat but I and my daughter who will be 18 in 4 days will be voting Republican with me. This is not a football game and to shove the votes through with no regard for millions of people against this is just rotten goverment.

jeanette walker   November 8th, 2009 12:23 am ET

i just wonder how can we as a nation can afford to pay for health care reform, with tax payer dollars when there are no jobs. Where will tax dollars come from? the rich ? I somehow doubt that. When are we going to hear about jobs? It is my oppion that the government should be consontrating on job growth. I can't help but wonder where is the hell the governments head is. They clearly are not thinking about the poor.

thanks to the democratic party withthe support of CNN for the destruction of the Americacn way of life. I'm discussed that you have chosen to ignore the U.S. constitution and impose unconstitutional tyranical mandates on all Americans except the political elite. This has nothing to do with healthcare reform and every thing to do with tyrany. It is a blatant political power grab by unconstitutional means. This will be remembered @ the 2010 & 2012 elections. Yeah! President Obama has done more in 9 months then 8 long years of the Republican's. Now we have to listen to them whine and lie. They are all of a sudden so concerned about the deficit but showed absolutely no concern when they bankrupted the country by giving tax breaks to their rich friends and advocated for two wars. Shut up Republicans you had your chance and blew it. Obama is doing a good job in reversing all of your blunders. Some say it's going slow. I say analyze what he's accomplished in 9 months and dummy's stop counting the months he was not in the White House. The Bushes wouldn't even let his family stay in the guest house so Sasha and Melia could attend school.

I sat and watched all afternoon and tonight and I was sickened to see the antics used to slow down the process. Republicans did not have the votes to stop the bill but they did everything they could to slow it down. I sat and watched them act like children not wanting to deal with that which was coming. I sat and watched them purposely interrupt speakers that had been recognized. They just acted so childish it was a shame to see grown-ups acting like this.

I am a registered Republican and I am ashamed to admit it because of the stupidity that has taken over common sense and the lack of humanity the party has displayed on this and many other topics. Get over it and drop the petty schoolyard alliances....GROW UP! The Republican Party is an embarrassment – yes I said it. You were voted to represent the people. I think it is time for every member of congress to volunteer 5 days in a hospital within their local area and another 5 days in another area of the country where it is not as posh. They will see first hand how healthcare really works. I will make sure I vote Democrat at each election and during the primaries any conservative or incumbent will not get my vote. Thank god for the congress and their bravery in terms of finally doing what every other industrialized nation has done, or, I should say, the first step in this process at supplying health care coverage for all the citizens of the United States of America. The fact that this was not accomplished fifty years ago is disgrace and is emblematic of those that were so ignorant and politically impeded in thinking that this was a bad thing. We need health care now. I am 57 year old, without health care and sincerely proud of the Congress to begin this process and I hope it will be done before this year is done.

Party Purity will never bring Political Power!   November 7th, 2009 11:40 pm ET

I cannot believe all the selfish neo-cons complaining about helping to pay for those less fortunate. And yes this liberal has a job, despite how all you cons like to depict us a parasites on society.

Too tight to spare 5% for those making 500k if single and 1 million for couples so others can have health insurance?. I only make 5 figures but I am willing to pay more to help my fellow citizens who have not been as blessed as I have.

As President Obama pointed out if you had been listening and not typing the name calling rants, you would know that we are paying now for all the uninsured but as he stated, it is the costliest care provided, ER. So, I might be good pay small amounts over time to keep folks from having to go to the ER as the last resort.

With this bill now singles as well as single mothers with kids can now qualify for Medicaid. Perhaps this will stem the break up of marriages so the mother could qualify for Medicaid. After all, one layoff and you would need that safety net, and I know repubs think the word "empathy" is a four letter word, but in this case you might want to Google the definition.

To all you neo-con "chrisians" WWJD?

Apparently, if you represent the "living example of Christ" He would let those less fortunate among us die, just as long as He can hang onto his gold coins.

What about "what you do unto the least of them you do unto me"?

What a terrible example you are setting for this "heathen" liberal.

Okay, 220-215 was a super close vote. I'd like to know EXACTLY what was in the bill, and how much it costs. I'd love to have those "preexisting conditions" discrimination repealed and a ban on just "dropping" people because they get too sick, so I can finally get coverage. What I DON'T want is more debt!!!

PATHETIC; those who voted for should be voted out. This country cannot afford this; most people are against it.
