From

Washington (CNN) - President Obama will meet with members of the House Democratic caucus Saturday in a rare visit to Capitol Hill as he works to push forward proposed health care legislation.

But the contentious issue of abortion is threatening to delay Saturday's scheduled vote on the nearly $1.1 trillion health care bill by the full House of Representatives and possibly push it back to Sunday, according to two Democratic sources.

In a late night development, anti-abortion Democrats scored a major victory by persuading Democratic leaders to allow them to offer an amendment during the House health care debate Saturday that would ban most abortion coverage from the public option and other insurance providers in the new so-called "exchange" the legislation would create, three Democratic sources told CNN.

The prohibition would exclude cases of rape, incest or if the mother's life is in danger.

House Democratic leadership sources said that win or lose, they hope giving abortion foes the opportunity to vote will clear the way for passage of their health care bill.

Obama/Biden = One and Done, please God....   November 7th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

Didn't Obama tell us there would be no federal funding for abortion in this bill? Just like he told us the bill would contain no funding for health care for illegal aliens?

All those hypocrits so quick to complain about Joe Wilson, where are you now???

Abortion is a LEGAL medical procedure based on a woman's right to privacy. Not including this legal medical procedure in a national health care plan is discriminatory to American women and jeopardizes their health and well being. If the American Health Care Plan is to serve ALL Americans, then politics must be eliminated from the debate. The law is the law.

Party Purity will never bring Political Power!   November 7th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

To all the neo-con “christian” pro-life taxpayers.

This liberal heathen pro-life taxpayer offers this compromise.

We will alter the tax return forms and add two check boxes, one will allow you to opt out of having your tax dollars going to killing human life via abortions, and the second check box will allow me to opt out of having my tax dollars going to killing human life via elective wars.

Deal?

For eight years the Republican Party strongly and stubbornly supported everything the Bush Administration did as it totally placated and patronized Special Interests and a select few, done with an in-your-face arrogance. Together they irresponsibly and unconscionably encouraged the dishonesty, self-indulgence and neglect that literally contributed to bringing down most systems in this country. The Bush Presidency unapologetically passed a gargantuan mess on to the Obama Presidency and the Republican Party then just attempted to block/obstruct, without any regard for other than their own interests, all efforts to solve problems. Without ever contributing anything positive or constructive they now aggressively criticize the Obama Administration for not totally turning things around in just ten months. Today everyone should be able to recognize the lies, the scare tactics and the appeals to prejudices and emotions, all intended to mislead and manipulate the majority and benefit only the few. Anyone who accepts all of that, who supports the Republicans' efforts and the substantial overt and covert activity of their patrons, aimed to return to 'more of the same', obviously has to be certifiably crazy. Anyone who is willing to ignore the consequences, at the very least, has to be masochistic.

No abortion = no plan. The plan is no good as is, don't make it worse.

Women has the right of choice that want the U. S. Courts say, so that is the law of the land. The Church is not the law!

I would like to know what happens the seniors when part b and d are going up and they get no raises for the next two years. This is not right for them because most are choosing between food and prescriptions right now. How can you people set up on the hill as they call it and make decisions that effect the seniors in the United States. What needs to happen is the american people need to vote on it and you people need to stop makeing reallty bad decisions for the american people. Why can we, the american people not have the same social security plans as all of you and the same health care plan as you(the Congress ect...).

Sandra   November 7th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

How can anyone promote abortion? The One in Chief needs to grow up and save everyone.

katiec   November 7th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

The struggle of Health care reform has gone on for far too long.
The republicans offered their plan which was a farce, decreasing coverage and no reforms or oversights on the insurance companies. CBO, an non partisan group, reported the failure of this plan, but
CNN made no notice of this report deeming the coverage of Palin is more important.
No one has the right to dictate what a person chooses to have covered with private insurance companies. Abortions are legal
and the right of a decision lies solely with person involved.
No one has the right to tell a person what they can do on this
matter.
Health Care Reform, Public Option NOW!!

Abortion is a medical procedure. Religious Zealots need to mind their own morals and actions and not the morals and actions of others. America is a secular nation or atleast it was before Bush the Son. Religious Zealots should not be allowed to dictate secular law.

John Ca   November 7th, 2009 12:24 pm ET

Pres. Obama had to go back to capital hill to put all the Democrats back in line and this bill will pass by the end of the year because all America's need health care now!

aware   November 7th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Obama needs to endorse the anti-abortion Democrats' amendment!

JM   November 7th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

Sounds like a fair enough compromise to me. I'm pro choice (not pro abortion, but pro choice meaning that I simply believe in a woman's right to choose and believe that as much as possible should be done to limit the # of abortions) and I believe the Blue Dog Democrats are right here ... with the exception of rape, incest or where the mother's life is in danger this health care bill should not cover abortion since IMO in all other cases abortion is a matter of choice not of safety or anything else.

Reality   November 7th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

What a joke! Obama is still in campaign mode. America does not want his health care reform and not matter how he spins it with his "words", the bottom line is that his plan is not good for America.

Health care is not free, nor is it an given right. Health care in a capatalistic society is earned.

Obama and Nancy need to remeber the principles that our Founding Fathers built this county upon. We are not a socialistic society. The poor don't deserve handouts from the sector of society that have worked to achieve their income.

Obama and Nancy need to start thinking about how to create jobs, instead of just taking money from the rich.

Bev   November 7th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

Also, let's not forget..........

Even if this Bill would pass the House.........It still has to go to the Senate to be voted on.

Reid has already said that he does NOT have enough votes in the Senate to pass this.

What the Democrats-- and the main stream media who supports and provides cover for them does not understand......the MAJORITY in the country do believe that some health care reform tweeks/changes are necessary to make our health care system more effective.

However, this Bill is NOT the answer--and we do NOT need to destroy our entire health care system in order to make a few changes/tweeks.

JIM   November 7th, 2009 12:08 pm ET

There is so much wrong with this bill that it is foolish to even consider but that will not stop the liberal marxists from winning at all costs.

Brenda   November 7th, 2009 12:07 pm ET

From what I am hearing---there are now somewhere between
21-28 conservative Democrats who are going to vote with the Republicans AGAINST this Bill.

These are smart Democrats!! After all, they know that the Republicans and Independents in their conservative disctricts who are against this Bill--could very easily vote for a Republican in 2010.

They also know that the loony left who make up the minority of voters in their districts-- will never vote for a Republican--so there vote is a definite no matter what.

In other words...........Being that they are from conservative districts--they know that if they vote for this Bill when the majority of those in their districts have said that they do NOT want this Bill-–they will be committing political suicide for the 2010 elections.

valwayne   November 7th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

Why is this an issue? Didn't Obama promise that no public money would be used for abortion? So why is there a fight about adding an amendment insuring that doesn't happen. Could it be Obama and the Democrats have been lying to us all along about everything in the bill? Duh!!!

Jane and John   November 7th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

I Wish we could believe that this Obama/Pelosi Gov. Health Plan was for the good of all Americans, but obviously it is NOT! IF someone messes around and becomes PG, then they should give the child up for adoption, instead of aborting and don't tell us that Fetus while being aborted, doesn't feel PAIN!. Have the Child and let a childless couple adopt here in the U.S. rather than going out of the Country to adopt a child. Do it right and have the child, and We do NOT want any of Tax money to go for ABORTIONS.
YOU want to KILL People, get rid of those that Killed innocent children and woman after they used them! They are the Monsters here, not an unborn child! Why should our Tax money go to keep that Monster alive?
As for Seniors, this Bill is going to Limit our Health Care, make us live with extreme pain, since they will not allow us to have joints replaced, and limit all Health Care we receive as we age. That's just insane and Unfeeling! Strangers will decide when we should die? No thanks!
Something is Wrong (it smells fishy) when Pelosi calls everyone in to Vote on the Health Plan over a weekend, instead of letting people read and digest each part of the Bill. Write it up so the Average Person can understand it, then let US Vote on it! WHY should we let a few individuals tell us what, where and how we can get Medical treatment?

Hoss Fly   November 7th, 2009 11:57 am ET

It is important for Obama to support publicly funded murder of unborn children in the U.S..

Fitz in Texas   November 7th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Oh, I'm sure Obama is making a "rare visit to Capitol Hill"...he needs to help Pelosi and Reid convince (translated bribe and blackmail) those that want to vote against this bill want a mistake that would be.

Ken Williams   November 7th, 2009 11:48 am ET

Its only fair to put a provision in the bill as at least half if not more of the country find abortion to be murder.

Bob   November 7th, 2009 11:41 am ET

Just love the way these anti-abortion bozos don't want government to control anything yet they are quick to stick thier noses into other women's decisions in life..................You regilious bozos due realize that 90 percent of all wars were religious based and the terrorists use religion as an excuse...........Yea we need more of you religious bozos

W Spivey   November 7th, 2009 11:41 am ET

Get tuff Mr P. The GOP just put forth their Death Panel. What a bunch of Dumb Butts.

Jade   November 7th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Just like Republicans to throw abortion into the mix. Thing is, most Republicans have had abortions and their insurance has paid for it....well, the insurance the tax-payers have furnished to them on a golden platter.

B   November 7th, 2009 11:38 am ET

Abortion should be a- State issue- and the federal government should not even be involved.
