WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Barack Obama will speak at Tuesday's memorial service for the shooting victims at Fort Hood Army Post in Texas, and will meet with victims' families, his spokesman said.

"The president will meet with families of those that lost a loved one last week, as well as speak to the larger memorial that will take place at the base," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in his daily briefing Monday.

First lady Michelle Obama will accompany the president on the trip, Gibbs said.

I am glad that our President will be there. He may give those grieving families a little comfort.
This is a tragedy that nobody saw coming. Our servicemen are having to deal with war and are cracking under pressure.
We do need to give them all the help they need.
God bless all of our troops and their families.

Good for them. This is as it should be. He is the Commander-In-Chief and she has been a champion of military familes even before the election. Please convey the country's condolences, as well as our prayers to the families.

God bless America, Fort Hood and the victims and their families of this brutal crime. United in freedom and love. You are in our prayers, from Canada.

I wish you people that criticize Obama would realize that he is trying to do the best he can to fulfill his administration. As I have said before if you are constantly complaining you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. I praise President Obama and his wife.

This President and First Lady truly care about America and our Troops
God Bless our Troops and America.

As a proud Army mom of an active duty soldier, who recently left Ft Hood after 3 yrs., I'm glad our President and First Lady will be attending this memorial. Let's get to the bottom of why the military mental health system missed this....

Thank you, Mr. President and First Lady Obama, for your concern. Our hearts are breaking with yours, and we send along our thoughts and prayers for all those affected by this terrible tragedy.

About time.

Josh P   November 9th, 2009 5:16 pm ET

Obama should have made the trip immediately after he made his "shout-out" press conference.

Chris D.   November 9th, 2009 5:08 pm ET

God Bless the President and the troops.

When President Obama and the First Lady embrace these military families with hugs I hope they feel the hugs and sympathy of all Americans arms around them. God Bless them.

DJ   November 9th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

Good call...they urgently need some support from Boss Obama after the horror that no soldier should experience on home turf.

rachel   November 9th, 2009 5:02 pm ET

Well good for him, but the last two times I saw him speak on this it didn't seem to have much feeling on it. He seemed more emotional giving the shout out. That's just my opinon, maybe others felt the depth of his concerns .
