Clinton will address Senate Democrats Tuesday.

Washington (CNN) - Two senior Democratic sources that former president Bill Clinton will attend the Senate Democrats' weekly luncheon Tuesday to address the caucus on health care.

"All Senators should be aware that former President Clinton will be making a presentation on Health Care at tomorrow's caucus lunch," said a notice sent to all Senate Democrats. "Senator Reid has requested that all Democratic Senators attend."

Democratic leaders have consistently cited what they call a lesson of the Clinton administration: fail to pass health care, and congressional Democrats will suffer on Election Day.

This clearly depends on the the definition of what IS is, in other words, it is the economy stupid. The government is broke, congress is getting rich just being there and people are losing their homes and jobs in record numbers. So now health care Which is not deficit neutral must pass so they can stay in public employment and get richer. Senators should pay cash out of their own pockets for this lunch.

Ken in NC   November 10th, 2009 10:57 am ET

I certainly hope those “Dumbocrats” will listen to the former president. They seem to fail to understand that by dickering among themselves, they are doing just what the health care industry and Republicans want them to do.

It really saddens me to say this but the worst enemy of all Democrats is not the Republican Party but other Democrats. While Republicans for the most part will fall in line behind their appointed leader and follow him right off the same cliff, Democrats are free thinkers. They will fight each other and each will develop their own cliff to jump off.

Tony   November 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

Yeah... you don't have nearly as much clout as you used to, Clinton. Senators are usually much more seasoned political veterans than house representatives, with the occasional exception like Barack Obama for instance. They don't care what you have to say, they care about keeping their constituents and their campaign donors happy. The Senate will not pass a bill that socializes health care in America.

dk   November 10th, 2009 10:56 am ET

Can we forget about Hilary and have him in the White house after Obama?
Guys?
Please?

Rob   November 10th, 2009 10:55 am ET

That ought to be fun. Have at it Billy Boy! Roust up them Dems, and maybe the dumb ones will support this piece of trash and you all can take another step in the destruction of America.

George Guadiane - Austerlitz, NY   November 10th, 2009 10:51 am ET

Here AGAIN, "stupid" Dumbocrats ADMITTING that they have done things wrong...
How dumb can you be? Showing weakness, showing IMPERFECTION?

OK, OK, I SUPPOSE you could make the argument that by looking at your thoughts and actions from the past and dealing with how things happened and looking for ways to overcome obstacles from the past (including those that we have placed in our own paths) we can do better...
I SUPPOSE you COULD make that argument, and you might actually make changes and get closer to your goals, but...

REALLY, do you want to show that kind of "weakness?? Look at Republicans, they never admit ANY mistakes, they NEVER do anything wrong. They set their course and go there, no matter what! Look how well they are doing, look how well that is working for THEM! Get with the program Democrats, you are making America look weak, BAD.

Please Senate Dems listen to President Clinton this may be the last chance to fix a broken syetem that has been broken for years!

Ken   November 10th, 2009 10:47 am ET

“fail to pass health care, and congressional Democrats will suffer on Election Day.”

This is a gross misread of history! A more accurate account of what actually happened may be stated as – attempt to violate the Constitution through the subjugation of 18% of the economy in a Government takeover of health care, while ballooning the federal debt and saddling future generations with malicious unfunded debt, and congressional Democrats will suffer on Election Day.

Kevin in Ohio   November 10th, 2009 10:46 am ET

I wonder if he will repeat his prior criticisms of the Obama Health Care Plan....... or will he offer the platitudes that democrats are accustomed to?

Big gov't one more trillion in debt won't matter!

Four and The Door   November 10th, 2009 10:36 am ET

The DNC knows this is going to die on the vine. Their desperation is showing. They know it's a bad idea, the RNC knows it's a bad idea and the American public knows it's a bad idea. Except those who think they are getting something for nothing. They love it.

Joanna in PA   November 10th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Senate- pass the reform. BUT do not add the GOP amendment that restrict a womens health care choice. Thats irony for you. The GOP has been saying for months that the dems want to ration care, but the GOP are the ones that are trying to do it. This ONLY affects women and there CHOICES. Choices people, the GOP is ANTI choice when it comes to womens health! NOT THE DEMS! They want government intervention and government restriction. Why do women have to be second class citizens?

Enough   November 10th, 2009 10:32 am ET

After his failed attempt to reform health care, what could this narcissist do to help? Enough of these Democrats trying to shove their socialist agenda down our throats. Countries fight for freedom, yet many here want to throw it away to become a nanny state.............too lazy to earn a living and support yourselves?

LacrosseMom   November 10th, 2009 10:29 am ET

America is watching closely. Those of us who want Healthcare for ALL Americans, who need it, will be watching the Senate.

45,000 Americans die every year because they lack healthcare. Its hypocritical of the Pro-life-far-right to not care about 45,000 American Citizens that die every year!

Healthcare with a Public Option is needed. No one cares about having healthcare as long as they have it! Its when you are dropped by Insurance because you are sick, you lose your job, or you have a preexisting condition ...... that lack of healthcare matters very much!

And about Small Business, they wont be affected by the law unless they earn over a million dollars every year! That is very few small businesses! My brother-in-law who owns a small machine shop (welding) and has two employees is thrilled at the prospect of having his family and employees insured.

Healthcare is a matter of life and death. We know what side the GOP is on!

Adalbert   November 10th, 2009 10:29 am ET

The democratic senators must listen to Mr. Clinton. We must have a strong public option to limit the power of the insurance cartels.

Healthcare bill stinks BAD   November 10th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Clinton and Gore (as well as Obama, Biden, Rangle, Frank, Pelosi....) have gotten so rich using the free market system. If they are so concerned about the poor, why don't they donate more like the rest of us?

Obama donated 1.6% of his wealth up until election year (6.4%). Biden doesn't donate money–just $300 in used clothes. Clinton donates to his charity (to elect Hillary). Gore pockets the money. Rangle steals it, Pelosi uses her power to push it to her husband, Frank hordes it....

The Healthcare plan is so bad that I'm amazed that even 36% of Americans support it (60% oppose). Before we let this monster pass, please visit a VA hospital, read up on the corruption and unsustainability of Medicare, social security, and then wait in line at the DMV....

gary davis Harbor Oregon   November 10th, 2009 10:19 am ET

this isn't about ANY partty failing to get re elected this is about the american people . and Bill Clinton is right we need health care reform
and the big insurance companies don't want to loose the great deal of profit on our behalf . through raping us over health issues . this is so sick in this day and age to allow anyone to make such a huge profit over peoples health issues . to tell someone with terminal anything that you no longer have health insurance because of pre anything. people need to wake up and see what is happening . don't let this pass by and loose the ability for avordable coverage..

Let's get it done! Health Reform Now with a majority-supported public option for our country.

EBC   November 10th, 2009 10:16 am ET

Americans are SICK and TIRED for our politicians ignoring the voice of their constituents.

gary davis Harbor Oregon   November 10th, 2009 10:14 am ET

KEEP IT GOING we need health care reform and a public option ..don't let the insurance and lobiest and the republicans take away the right to choose .
be american call your senators today and demand a public option
same thing as social security and it pays for its self.. even with government borrowing from it and never paying it back. so don't be fooled by the insurance industry . they see there ship sinking if the health care passes the senate and the president signs into law A HEALTH PACKAGE .. life will change from that day forward and history will have been made. this is the 21 century so lets act like it is and not the stone ages .
GOD BLESS THIS COUNTRY
GOD BLESS THIS PRESIDENT

I pray every night that the healh care bill pass with the public option. We are on of the last countries to offer healthcare for their people. It's now finally the time after decades of trying to provide healthcare for all Americans. It's only the selfish people of the world who want to deny this right for everyone. Now is not the time to be selfish...now is the time to pass healthcare reform.

Can Bill please address why congress have exempt themselves from having to enroll into this health care plan they're trying to force upon us? And where in the Constitution does it say government shall imprison Americans for not participating in obamacare?

Thanks to the lobbyists, our congress critters have passed a big giveaway to the insurance and pharmaceutical industries. Nobody except maybe Kucinich (sp?) has the stones to tell it like it is. We need to completely dismantle private health insurance and go with a single-payer system like every other civilized country on the planet. This would save businesses large and small a huge amount of money that could be better spent creating jobs. This would make us way more competitive in the world economy as well. Those of you who whine about new taxes: how much are you and your employer paying for healthcare now? If we all payed half as much in taxes, "socialized medicine" as you republiclowns call it, would work as well or better than what we have now. Imagine the savings from administrative costs alone. The only losers would be Wall Street. And we all know how much they care about your health and well-being. Also ask yourselves how many doctors move here from Canada, Britain, Germany, etc.? Have a nice day!

The Lonely Libertarian of Liverpool NY   November 10th, 2009 9:23 am ET

Calling in the heavier dutier Comrade to the Senators. We need this partison act passed even if the GOP boycott progress which appears to be their new tactic. Now we know they are afraid of Black Folk according to Michael Steel so that explains the party's strained relationship with our President Obama.

For those of us who support Health Care Reform and a strong Public Option, we must contact and continue to contact every senator and the White House. It is going to be a hard battle, and, the American people need to demand true representation from our politicians.
We will no longer accept or tolerate big business running, controlling our country and making crucial decisions on our behalf.
We will no longer support or allow politicans to put campaign funding, personal gains and the party first, win at any cost mentallity over the future of our country.
It is time for us to take America back.

The democrats and the Obama administration aren't trying to "fix" the healthcare system with their overhaul, they are trying to "take over" and make American's more dependant on the government, making it bigger and bigger and more socialistic.

I ask you, what good is this huge investment in Health Care going to do for us, if the military-industrial establishment (read: CIA) keeps coming out with all these plagues, ie: West Nile, Avian Bird flu, HIV, Swine Flu, now H1N1.

If Geoge Bush's CIA keeps dumping all these plagues into the citizens, all the Health Care in the World is going to at best just neutralize it, with the end result being nothing more than adding a ton more debt on top of all of America's already enormous debt.

Is CNN turning into FOX NEWS?I prey not, we need a nutereal new organization nowdays and not just all this hate mongering in all our news we get.Seems the more we worry about the far left or right:more the middle gets forgotten. We need to meet in the middle and let the loones on both sides get lost and find a middle ground in this country so we all can live in peace and prosper.Time to put thies so called political differences to the side and do whats right for America and work together. The old saying goes you can please most of the people most of the time and none of the people all of the time.Stop working on a perfict bill and get the job done is all I got to say.Dems need to be dems and reps need to be reps and stop behaving like mad 5 year olds and do what we are famus for and meet in the middle.

Of course the mere mention of Clinton's name will bring out the Conservative naysayers, who will make sneering double entendres and find a way to accuse Clinton of socialism, communism, and satanism.

Let me say that one Clinton is worth more than Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush (the good one), Quayle (remember that famous Republican?), Bush (the other one), McCain, and Palin all added up. That sorry lineup is the best Conservatism could come up with during our lifetimes. The Democrats gave us FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, Carter, Clinton, and Obamba who transformed this nation. A very stark comparison.

More proof that the bill is about getting re-elected and not actually helping Americans by passing REAL reform.

Bill needs to put a sock in it. He had his chance and he failed.
Obamacare will fail too. This bill does nothing to actually control costs.

david -   November 10th, 2009 12:02 am ET

The senate shouldnt be the stubling block to the health care bill they should vote for it.As for the GOP they should stop scaring people about the health care cost ,for there is nothing important like being not afraid to go to hospital for fear of huge bill. They should give Americans a chance to enjoy their basic rights, after all how much money do we spend in unnecessary wars. Americans deserves the best health care. Our health should not be dettermined by the insurance or how much i have.

GOPer   November 9th, 2009 11:56 pm ET

I never thought I hear myself saying this but the Dems need to listen to Clinton on health care. We cannot let the insurance companies run health care, they are too greedy and don’t care about life or death, they care about profits.

Go get em Bill.

DF   November 9th, 2009 11:40 pm ET

Great!!!!! You tell them Bill. America needs healthcare reform and America needs a "PUBLIC" option or it won't work.

Private insurance is all about PROFIT FIRST and does not or never will have the best interest of the general public as its first priority. The only way to ensure that the government keeps them honest is to, as an expression, have a sharp knife at the throat of Private Insurance.

If the Private insurance companies do not want to provide service to the general public in a way that makes full coverage and affordable healthcare with a Public option competing with them then they should be excluded from offering any coverage and America should then go all PUBLIC just like all the other advance countries, period.

On the other hand...   November 9th, 2009 11:38 pm ET

Certainly he will follow the Democratic Party line:

Talk about what another wonderful historic opportunity they have here but don't say a word about the cost, how it's paid for or what it does to any effort to rein in health care costs in the US. Let someone else worry about the details.

My appeal to Democratic senators is, "Please, please, please listen carefully to President Clinton." Understand that your inability to pass health care reform will cost you and your party during next year's election. You are at a critical point in history. You can be part of a huge step of how we take care of the people of this great nation. It will be easier to bail out and let this fail or you can rise to the occasion and do what is right. It may not be perfect and meet all that you want; compromise is what we need, not stubbornly standing by your "principles". Let Sen. Liebermann be the only one to do this.

Reza   November 9th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

I think Bill Clinton could play a constructive role in the health care debate. The Democrats need to effectively convey how this expensive bill will slow healthcare costs. I do not think that regional exchanges will cut it, and I am weary of the Feds regulating something that is regional. There should be a Federal Exchange, allow consumers to purchase health insurance accross state lines, this would prevent the need for a public option because costs would be reduced. Now my support for a public option is based on the idea that by law it does not become an expensive entitlement program, as we have seen these programs eventually become unsustainable, difficult to contain and impossible to dismantle. Healthcare should not by moral standards mean support health insurance industry who profit, but lets make it unique and limit government as only a support measure. Please remember government is not always the solution, but it should place the mechanisms for consumers and businesses can go about their business.
