John King will host a new political show at 7 pm. ET starting early next year.

Washington (CNN) – Heading into the critical 2010 midterm elections, CNN will launch a new weekday political program that will be hosted by award winning correspondent John King.

"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity, at this busy and consequential time, to have a platform to discuss and explore the big issues of our time," King, chief national correspondent and anchor of the network's Sunday program "State of the Union," said in a statement released Thursday by CNN.

Early next year, King will move into the 7 p.m. ET time slot that was previously held by longtime CNN anchor Lou Dobbs, who announced Wednesday that he was leaving the network.

"The program will reflect what CNN is all about: straight facts from our anchors and the widest range of opinions from across the political spectrum," Jonathan Klein, president of CNN/U.S., said in the network's statement. "John has enthralled CNN viewers with his vast political knowledge, and he has spent the past year reporting from beyond the Beltway on pressing policy issues and the real people they impact. Every night, he'll share his passion and his insights about what is really going on in Washington and across America."

CNN did not announce the name of King's new program and in the statement said he would "continue to anchor 'State of the Union' until early next year."

Good for John King!!!!

Vern Turnbull   November 12th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

John King is the best the media has to offer right. He more often than not just let the people speak. He will bring daily clarity to the health care debate where the emphasis should be on care not cost; on health assurance not health insurance. Everyone sems to have miss the most important aspect of this entire issue which is the ability of insurance to deny procedures or drugs prescribed by a doctor.

Sally   November 12th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Good for you John, love to watch you everytime you are on CNN. Look forward to your new program next year. Great job on reporting issues that matter everyday's life.

Phil Nelson   November 12th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Lou Dobbs is the only program I watch at CNN. Lou is the only one on CNN who has the courage to ask the hard questions on any political issues. He's not afraid to examine the facts and question them. That's something CNN and MSNBC have a difficult time doing.

Lou would be a perfect fit at Fox, where they have no fear of offending anyone by speaking out and reporting on any and all issues.

Best of luck to Lou.

Izzy   November 12th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Yes! Not only are you attractive John King, but your sexy going white-silver hair will fit in perfectly alongside CNN's most attractive anchor, AC.

I like your current show (when I have the time to watch it, weekends ya know?), but I also like Lou's. I like him because he's more conservative than most on CNN. I like that; It gives me a bit of insight on the other side, and I also like to disagree with someone on CNN, it makes me feel a bit smarter and like my opinions are actually my opinions, even though they are based on information from other CNN sources.

None-the-less, Congratulations!!

jack   November 12th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

So with Dobbs & Beck gone, any suggestion of balanced commentary is absurd. Welcome to MSNBC, CNN!

Bluebonnet   November 12th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

Be careful or you'll start sounding like Fox News with you "wide range of opinions". You would do well to better compete with Fox as they are tearing CNN a new one. Its pretty bad when MSNBC even beats out CNN.

Beckydog   November 12th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

I stopped watching Dobbs years ago. John King will be a welcome change!

Vivian   November 12th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

This is such good news! Welcome, John King!
Now I don't have to switch channels at 4:00 (PST) every day.

KV   November 12th, 2009 12:01 pm ET

Good move ! Lou was getting absurd by the day and John King had been doing a good job with the State of the Union so far

Utku Akbulut   November 12th, 2009 12:01 pm ET

Congrats to John King on this well deserved opportunity. He is definitely the right person. I can't wait to watch his show!!

Utku

J. Farber   November 12th, 2009 12:01 pm ET

Welcome John !
At last a reporter in this time slot who will present the stories/news and allow the viewers to form their own opinions.

Cynthia Griffith   November 12th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Thank you CNN and thank you John King. I just couldn't bring myself to watch Lou what's his name with his big phony grin and whitened teeth. I'll be sure to catch Mr. King once he gets into the 7PM time slot.

Blake   November 12th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Good Dobbs is wack! John King is way more straight facts.

"The program will reflect what CNN is all about: straight facts from our anchors and the widest range of opinions from across the political spectrum,"

Translation:

"The program will reflect what CNN is all about: cherry-picked, slanted progressive sound bites from our liberal anchors and the narrowest range of opionions possible from the narrowest minds in the political spectrum".

MAngeline   November 12th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Great news! Really enjoy listening to John. Could not stand Mr. Dobbs and his so called "Independent" perspective. CNN is fortunate to have someone of his caliber to step right in!

mime   November 12th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Thank goodness a real reporter type person instead of hateful tone by lou dobbs so glad dobbs is gone THANK YOU THANK YOU

nkm   November 12th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

I like John King, but I am really going to miss Lou Dobbs. He was a fantastic talk show host who wasn't afraid to take on controversial issues.

Chuck Anaheim, Ca   November 12th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Thank God! What took so long? Lou lost it about a year ago. I did watch his show a couple of years ago but his hatefull rhetoric became to much to take.

Richie   November 12th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

"State of the Union" is the most disrespectful name for a program that I have ever heard. Please Please get rid of this horrid title.

Don M.   November 12th, 2009 11:59 am ET

Great. Replace one hack with another.

Alexander   November 12th, 2009 11:59 am ET

Good choice.

John   November 12th, 2009 11:59 am ET

I thought Lou was CNN's answer to Fox News. Good riddance.

Barry Weinstein   November 12th, 2009 11:59 am ET

Glad to see Lou Dobbs and his anti this, anti that, rants go. He was beginning to sound as bad as Glen Beck.

Andrea from Houston, TX   November 12th, 2009 11:58 am ET

So will this be an OPINION show like Lou's or real news?

Andrew   November 12th, 2009 11:58 am ET

Congratulations Mr. King. You are probably one of the most fair, and unbiased of all CNN anchors. You deserve it, looking forward to being able to watch CNN @ 6pm CST now!

Kevin   November 12th, 2009 11:58 am ET

Yes. Sanity returns to CNN. John is balanced, even and probing.

Trish Smith   November 12th, 2009 11:58 am ET

I am sorry to see Lou Dobbs leave CNN. I have watched his program for many years. My political tendencies tend to be liberal and there were times that I might have disagreed with Mr. Dobbs, but I never felt that his opinions were that radical. There were numerous times he was right on the money. I felt that he had researched his information and knew what he was talking about. I know there were people that came on his show that could not agree with his interpretations and wanted him gone from the show. Well, it looks like they won the battle. God forbid we can't all be in lock step with each other. It is too bad that when someone doesn't have the same beliefs or opinions then by all means get rid of them instead of trying to understand another point of view. I always had a hard time trying to watch both Lou or Hardball. Now, I won't have that problem anymore!

Gary   November 12th, 2009 11:58 am ET

I'm guessing Lou Dobbs is heading right to Fox, which is where he should have been the past few years. He claims to be a populist, Independent, but he clearly has moderate, at least, to strong right-leaning values and beliefs. I never heard him be so critical of the government when the Republicans and George Bush were screwing up the country, unless it had to do with illegal immigration, which is his pet project, and which he believed Bush was too soft on.

JaniceK   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

John King can never replace Lou. Now that Lou has left there is no need for me to watch CNN any more. CNN has simply gotten too left wing with Blitzer and Jack Cafferty.

kate   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Thanks to CNC for dumping Dobbs and going with someone with some credibility . I am sure we will be seeing Dobbs right up there next to Beck on Fox News.

Dan O'Connell   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Great Choice! Good move CNN.

Audrey Fryer   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Wow – I thought it was great news when I heard Dobbs was leaving but was I ever dissappointed when you announced his replacement. I haven't watched your Sundary morning shows since you have had King on – you aren't leaving many options open for watching CNN.

Ludmila   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

ne is a boring guy... nothing to compare to Lou Dobbs.

Bob Booth   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Great news all around! John King is a stellar news person and will bring back cred to the slot. In my opinion Lou Dobbs should have been sacked months ago. His overly biased opinions were and demenor not in keeping with CNN's reporting. Likely he will turn up on FOX which seems to be the resting place for right wing activists! Or maybe head up the Republican party as their next Sarah Palin look alike.

Ironic Mike   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

I heard, and then read, that Lou Dobbs was leaving CNN.

I had two thoughts:
1: Is Lou heading for Fox News? It seems that's where CNN talent go to perform serious Ratings.
2: Is Wolf Blitzer next to leave? If so where is Fox going to put him?

Attention Captain Ted Turner: That iceberg you his in the American Public tiring of the S.S. Turner almost always steering to the Port: AKA: Left. Your best talent is heading for the lifeboats about as fast as they can.

ISAYS   November 12th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Nice guy, really like him. But with Lou leaving CNN I guess I'll never see the show, no reason now. Too bad. Good luck John. Keep your eyes open, maybe you can connect with a 'real' News Organization soon....

Mel Bailey   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

Glad to see "Mr. Independent" go, because he leans to one side too heavily.

Myra Naylor   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

CNN finally ran off the only broadcaster worth listening to. Guess I won't be tuning in any longer.

dane   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

It's about time u guys got rid of that racist. Very gud move. Much love and respect to Mr. King. Wish him all the best.

Jo   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

Can Roland Martin have a show?? Love Roland... Would bring a different dynamic /perspective...

wendy madison   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

thank God, this is a move that's way OVERDUE..........

John Lubeck   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

Lou Dobbs like all Republicans is utterly lacking in the slightest common sense. ignores any and all factual information and is basically ignorant. Good riddance.

kc   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

King is the best anchor to fill the slot. CNN now has the best line-up ever for the primetime. Wolf, John, Campbell 'No Bull" Brown, LKL, and the topped by my fav AC360.
Congrats J. KIng and Way to Go CNN.

Mike in LR   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I'm always amused at the lefties when they talk about guns and conservatives. Here we have a conservative thinking guy on a liberal TV network whose family is attacked by a gunman. I can never understand why libs can't accept there are extremes in both camps.

johnrj08   November 12th, 2009 11:56 am ET

Based on his interview selections and overall reporting, I would say that replacing Lou Dobbs with John King is a lateral move for CNN. Too much slanted analysis and not enough reporting of facts. Too many pundits who are clearly driven more by ideology than by facts.

During the entire health care reform debacle, CNN has abdicated its role as credible and useful news source by neglecting to give adequate coverage to the actual content of the bills and paying far too much attention to the more sensational and factually devoid aspects of this process.

Too much analysis and not enough news make for a stupid, uninformed, easily manipulated electorate. That should be CNN's new motto.

Disgraceful.

JoAnn Hansen   November 12th, 2009 11:55 am ET

It's about time he retired his hate-filled commentary. But he'll probably just hike on over to FOX NEWS where he'll fit in better.

Lyle   November 12th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Excellent choice! Through his ability and integrity John King has earned a following throughout the world. John offers a much needed change at CNN. I think many of us had become somewhat disenchanted with Lou's bitterness and rantings of nonsense.

Santha Suppiah Miles   November 12th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Congratulations to Mr. John King. I've always admired his reporting. Poor Lou is probably heading to FOX like Glen Beck.

Lou Dobbs is a fine anchor until Obama took office. Saw another side to Lou. He is probably heading to FOX NEWS like Glen Beck.

nebraska blue   November 12th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Any bets Lou signs on with Fox news???

Sarah Ferguson   November 12th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Thank God Dobbs is outta there! John King will be a great improvement.

Marilyn Rice   November 12th, 2009 11:55 am ET

I plan to watch this new show. King has always impressed me as informed & objective. Dobbs was getting harder & harder to watch with his constant immigrant bashing & negativity. Hardly ever a postitive story. I'm an independent voter but have voted mostly Republican through the years.

JS   November 12th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Dobbs is a pathetic conservative blowhard anyway... CNN LOST credibility by having him on.

Judi   November 12th, 2009 11:54 am ET

I think John King is an excellent choice for a new program on CNN. Although we have watched Lou Dobbs for years and always enjoyed him and found his insightful comments educational, over the past few years his tone has become too strident and has made me uncomfortable – it is similar to listening to an angry man. Fortunately he is NOT Glenn or Rush, but I have not liked the change in tone.

We wish him well in his new endeavors and there is a place for his opinions, but I don't believe CNN and he were going in the same direction.

Pat in Omaha   November 12th, 2009 11:54 am ET

I'm so glad Dobbs is leaving (I stopped watching him...he's usually just complaining and being negative) and very glad that John King will have
a chance to create something new and informative.

LAVERNE   November 12th, 2009 11:54 am ET

This is a welcome change. I stopped watching Lou Dobbs after he began to display such horrible disdain for the Obama administration. The President seemed to do nothing right according to Mr. Dobbs. He was rude to any of his guest who voiced a different opinion and it wasn't pretty or professional. I started to see him as a little dictator who would not hesitate to drop the hammer on all who disagreed with him. John King will be a perfect fit to replace him. He is a professional journalist who knows the difference between fact and opinion. John has the demeanor to be professional, articulate, and respectful of guests. It was clear that Lou had become much too comfortable with the power he thought he had with viewers. I'm sure there are many others who share my opinion. I will go back to watching CNN during that hour. Thanks CNN for FINALLY waking up.

Melinda   November 12th, 2009 11:54 am ET

John King sucks, he is way to liberal and stupid. His show will crash and CNN rating will get even worse.

Republican'ts are so YESTERDAY   November 12th, 2009 11:53 am ET

Thankfully Dobbs if finally gone from CNN. Now he can move on . . . maybe he can be the new head of the Birther-Tea-Bagger Party!

Kris   November 12th, 2009 11:53 am ET

ANOTHER white male?? & one with 2 shows now?? PLEASE CNN!! I'm sure you can find another anchor... Kitty Pilgrim, Soledad O'Brien, Candy Crowley, maybe even James Carville & Mary Matalin together.
What about Lisa Sylvester??
Let's mix it up!

Bev   November 12th, 2009 11:53 am ET

Love John King, is a straight shooter and does not let anybody get away with fact distortions. Actually allow his guests to respond, unlike Dobbs. Thank goodness he's history. CNN, you just may have won back a viewer and some of my friends. Now just get rid of Campbell Brown.

RB   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Excellent choice.

jk from Ohio   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Sara   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

He was the only reason I watched CNN. The other shows are to liberal minded.

John   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Finally, after all those years of spewing that Mr. Independent crap, he takes a hike. THANK YOU. It's about time. AMEN. SAYONARA.

David   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

Good for you John! State of the Union is a great show, and it'll be great to come home from work and have something on CNN that I can stand to watch at 6:00PM Central. Contrats!

Pat   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

CNN attempting to silence an independent conservative voice before elections.

Jeff   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

I like Lou Dobbs more than I did before. By the way. Is there anyway you could keep that idiot Keith Olberman off of Football Night in America. Its bad enough he ruins alot of other hours on TV each week. I wish he wasnt ruining Sunday Night Football too. I dont think he could be a bigger communist if he worked at it. He clearly hates America and Americans unless they are as left as he is which is almost no one.

Ed   November 12th, 2009 11:52 am ET

It will be great to finally get back to real news. Been waiting for a long time for you to get rid of Dobbs. His insincere ranting was intended to only sell books. 2-1 he ends up on Fox.
John King is a wonderful replacement!

Shovel   November 12th, 2009 11:51 am ET

Thank G@d.

I saw Lou Dobbs sign off the other day and it was a five minute infomercial for his other various blowhard outlets "Check me out on the Lou Dobbs radio show, check me out online at Lou Dobbsblowhard.com, check out my book, 'Lou Dobbs on Lou Dobbs"

I found myself thinking, "Am I watching Fox NOT News?"

Good riddance Lou Dobbs. You once were respectable before you decided your opinion was more important than JUST THE FACTS.

John King will be a welcome relief.

Want Real News   November 12th, 2009 11:51 am ET

Great choice! Welcome to you, John King, a great news professional. Now I will have something to watch when MSNBC repeats Hardball at 4 pm Pacific time.
Glad to see the sneering Dobbs leave. He intimidated everyone, even CNN's news correspondents when they reported on his show. It was embarrassing and sickening to watch.

Richard Young   November 12th, 2009 11:51 am ET

BIG MISTAKE CNN – Letting Lou Dobbs get away..........if that was even really what happened! Lou Dobbs was the ONE program that drew Conseratives to CNN . I know of no conservative who ever considered CNN as a Fair and Balanced News source. No one. But some of us had hope.

I looked forward to Lou's commentary each night and will follow him to whichever venue he goes in the future. His insight and reporting was a very pleasant change from the usual crap by Wolf Blitzer and his screeming side kick liberal Jack.

You have joined NBC and CBS in a rush to maintain full Liberal Viewpoints. You have written off BALANCE! You have written off half of the voters in the United States! .............and now we have written you off.

dogmom   November 12th, 2009 11:51 am ET

this is the best news for us viewers -
getting rid of dobbs will give us straight news/facts on EVERY show -
no more 'my way or get out of the way' news from dobbs -
love john king & all of your anchors -
thank you,

Another right wing 'birther-lite' to succed the hate-monger

t h beyer   November 12th, 2009 11:51 am ET

Best wishes to Mr. King and good riddance to Mr. Dobbs! Dobbs'
overly simplistic views of complicated issues have been a continual
tdisservice to your viewers. He has done his part to misinform,
the result of his annoyingly lightweight journalistic skills.

Nesa from Floirda   November 12th, 2009 11:50 am ET

Congratulations CNN! I admire John King for his reporting style. It is not biased and he ist not self opinionated in his reporting, unlike Campbell Brown, who should be replaced with Anderson Cooper. Good reporting is based on what the issues represent and not what the reporter thinks. It should also include the opinions of the people involved in the issues and not the 'big heads' that you put on your panels. What I also admire about John King is his sense of getting to the heart of the issues without actually sounding accusatory about the persons involved in the issues. He is also good to look at and his voice is very soothing.
Good riddance to that rude, independent racist Lou Dobbs! His reporting style belongs to Fox News. I never look at his shows.

Anonymous   November 12th, 2009 11:50 am ET

Yea!! Peace of Lou Slobbs!! I'm sure you will find a home in Fox's chicken coup!!!

I loved and will miss Lou Dobbs for his honesty. Yet, very happy on CNN's choice for John King, a true professional.

Congratulations to John King.
I believe you will deliver the message that most American and the world needs. Most of all honest and fair to all sides.Protect journalism that currently weakened by misuse of philosophy and fallacy information in the name of rattings....
Great Job CNN, A true and positve network station with a 21st century apporach to news that are inclusive to all humanity.
I will watch your show religiously.

John King is one of the best I listen to him any time I get a chance. I respect him and his professionalism very much.

Good on you, CNN!!!

You need to find a place for Dan Rather in your organization line-up. John King is no Dan Rather. Lou Dobbs should be well received at Fox news. Mr. Independent should have gone by the title Mr. I think I know it all. Take Ruperts money and retire to Mexico Louie!

Aminu   November 12th, 2009 11:49 am ET

Great news, John King is a smart guy and know his stuff, expecially when he is analysinng with the magic wall. What a great way to get good news – WOLF, KING and another KING at 9.

Cindy   November 12th, 2009 11:49 am ET

"The program will reflect what CNN is all about: straight facts from our anchors and the widest range of opinions from across the political spectrum,"

I am disappointed about the station decision to let Lou Dobbs out of his contract. . It seems that CNN is getting rid of the conservative viewpoint with it's "defections" in recent months. I have enjoyed CNN for the balance it had. This is not good news for the station.

I do however off my good luck to John King. He always does a good job.

Tim Green   November 12th, 2009 11:49 am ET

Let me guess Lou moving to Fox?

mills rendell   November 12th, 2009 11:48 am ET

I never respond to this stuff but loosing Lou Dobbs and replacing him with John King is an absolute joke. Having Lou on showed that CNN was at least trying to be "fair and balanced" to quote FOX. Instead with John King 'who could not ever ask a hard ball question if he tried, CNN has shown it's real agenda. We are no longer going to turn on CNN and will ask every place we go to please turn it off and put on FOX. No matter what you say about FOX at least they show both sides of the argument and let you decide what you want. The reason evening news is dying is we want the story told and then let us all decide what we think. Instead these talking heads feel we need to be walked through the details and told how to believe.
Goodby CNN!

Josh   November 12th, 2009 11:48 am ET

CNN – Facts – give me a break. How about bias. The Tv ratings just add proof of this statement

Marj in Arkansas   November 12th, 2009 11:48 am ET

Lou Dobbs got to be a disgrace to other journalists at CNN. I used to always watch him before he went off the deep end with immigration and other things. Let him go to Fox News!!!

Lorraine   November 12th, 2009 11:48 am ET

I really hope that CNN starts to put out both sides of an issue instead of the current way of promoting all the programs of the current administration without coming off as so anti-other side.

Adebola Osofisan   November 12th, 2009 11:47 am ET

The only reason I watch CNN primarilly is because I do believe the report from the center.
John King is kinda right leaning in my view. I hope he doesn't turn into another Lou Dobbs. We'll wait and see.

cecilia   November 12th, 2009 11:47 am ET

Well this is a welcome relief. It will be a pleasure to watch someone who, while I may not always agree with his point of view, his message will be delivered in an adult, professional manner. Unlike Mr. Dobbs who could not utter a sentence without condesending to his viewers.

I may just start watching CNN more, they way I used to until I got my fill of Mr Dobbs.

Mary   November 12th, 2009 11:47 am ET

I love John King! That's a great replacement....watch out Wolf!

pascual juarez   November 12th, 2009 11:47 am ET

I was happy about Mr. Dobbs announcement. I used to watch him on a regular basis but soured on his constant rant about illegal immigration. Without illegal immigration most of the food produced in this country would cost a whole lot more to harvest and the end users, the public, would have to pay more to put food on the table. I am happy also that Mr. John King will step in. I look forward to that time slot on CNN.

J.C. - Independent 4 Public Option   November 12th, 2009 11:47 am ET

My best wishes for Mr. Lou Dobbs! I thought he was going to run for 2008, but he didn't. It's always helpful to hear different opinions from different corners of the country. I hope Mr. Dobbs can continue his independent work outside of CNN.

H Moberly   November 12th, 2009 11:47 am ET

The only reason to watch CNN was Lou Dobbs. We have enjoyed watching him every day. Will switch to Fox for the important programs about the real things important to the USA. CNN is now off limitsfor anything important to the people of the US.

Ted di Stefano   November 12th, 2009 11:46 am ET

Great News! Watching Lour Dobbs was like watching Fox: just another angry, biased individual who is doing nothing to advance the truth or unity. Congratulations, CNN!

Robert J 1   November 12th, 2009 11:46 am ET

Doe this mean that CNN will begin to exhibit the same Republican bias that John King has shown for a long time? If so I will move to MSN

RLG   November 12th, 2009 11:46 am ET

About bloody time.
Dobbs was an increasingly- annoying shill, disseminating propaganda and baseless rumors, and passing it off as news and analysis.

He'll fit right in at Fox

Congratulations John! You will be a great host for the show. I think you will hold more of a neutral position as compare to Lou Dobbs. are you still going to host the Sunday Morning show as well!!!

Congrats!

george   November 12th, 2009 11:46 am ET

Thank god.... the last of the dying breed of arrogant jerks, who think they know it all, has left the building. I will find this man feeding pigeons in park of full of ducks.

Doug O   November 12th, 2009 11:45 am ET

John King's Sunday programming, State of the Union, is a benchmark in unbiased newscasting of current events – I hope his replacement program of Lou Dobbs maintains the high standards he has established with State of the Union.

walter keller   November 12th, 2009 11:45 am ET

Excellent choice. John has all of the qualifications – a "real" political journalist.
W Keller

texas conservative   November 12th, 2009 11:45 am ET

great now we can focus on something else besides MEXICO AND HIS ANGER THAT OBAMA GOT THE JOB......

Grace G. Howard   November 12th, 2009 11:45 am ET

CNN is becoming the John King network. Mr. King is about as exciting as plain rice. He's already ruined my Sunday viewing; leaving only Reliable Sources as a show worth watching. I'm sure Lou Dobbs (CNN's resident crazy) can find a home with Fox's multiple crazies.

Jerry Green   November 12th, 2009 11:45 am ET

A very fitting replacement. Congratulations to you John, you work hard and will be a MUCH better fit in this time slot. Good luck to you and the CNN Crew. I will enjoy watching CNN a lot more now. Lou Dobbs had really been a blight on the network with his extreme right wing rants and vitriol. Good riddance.

Walter   November 12th, 2009 11:45 am ET

Looks like CNN lost there last good journalist. Can't wait to see him on Fox News.

Brian   November 12th, 2009 11:44 am ET

Dobbs comes across as a self-important, pompous, bloviator with extreme opinions delivered with absolute certainty. He would fit in nicely at FOX and that's probably where he'll end up. It's about time CNN got rid of him.

Steve   November 12th, 2009 11:44 am ET

A welcomed change, John King appears to have a right leaning bent but I believe he will at least lesssingle issue. Perhaps Mr Dobbs will begin a career in politics where he can try to put some of his 'ideas' into action...then he will see how easy it is to do more than simply criticize others. More likely, he will join the ranks fo Rush, Glenn, Mark, Shawn, Palin and many other to whip up to a frenzy the ugly emotions of the right wing and make a buunch of money doing it.

bill   November 12th, 2009 11:44 am ET

Finally, you've made the right decision and dropped the bigoted Dobbs. Now we can come back to cnn in that time slot. I don't know how you let Dobbs go off the deep end before kicking him out, but thanks for getting rid of him. We need news not biased, sarcastic, cynicism.

Richp   November 12th, 2009 11:44 am ET

Not a big Sunday watcher so no comment on John King. Good luck Mr King. I hope your show is as interesting as Lou Dobbs was.

geewizz   November 12th, 2009 11:43 am ET

"John has enthralled CNN viewers "...................................you have got to be Kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here comes ANOTHER......... CNN Milk-Toast Reporter!

AL TRAUTMAN   November 12th, 2009 11:43 am ET

Lou Dobbs was the MAIN reason that I listened to CNN. Was it La Raza, his NO OUTSOURCING, FIX HERE, no NWO.

Well, I'm GONE TOO,

AL TRAUTMAN
LYDIA, LA

Northeast   November 12th, 2009 11:43 am ET

Thank you CNN for replacing Lou Dobbs. He cost your network credibility and the unbiased reputation you are seeking. I felt embarrassed watching Lou because of his uninformed conspiracy theories and it was hard to watch him put his reporters on the spot with foolish and very subjective questions they were clearly uncomfortable answering. John King will be a strong addition to your weeknight line up.

Norma   November 12th, 2009 11:43 am ET

I'm so glad that Lou Dobbs is gone from CNN. He did not reflect what CNN is all about: straight facts from the anchors and the widest range of opinions from across the political spectrum. He became hateful and bias. I look forward to watching John King. Thanks CNN.

Curtis jW. Etzel Sr.   November 12th, 2009 11:43 am ET

I am thrilled that CNN has finally rid itself of the bigoted Lou Dobbs. Now I can watch CNN all evening for the news fair and equally reported instead of leaving the networtk because of Lou Dobbs and his "slanted" opinions. I want political news reported for what it is and not someone opinion one way or another. Again, thanks.

Pat Bruder   November 12th, 2009 11:42 am ET

I saw yesterday that CNN has a viewer poll about whether muslims should be excused/excluded from defending our / their country if the enemy is of the muslim faith. The idea is outrageous. Why would our country contribute to the insularly nature of particular religious community even more by excluding them from defending our/their country? If you are lucky enough to live in this country , then defend it.

George   November 12th, 2009 11:42 am ET

Bravo!! Excellent move. John King is one of the best. Good riddance to the sour and the cynical, Dobbs. He belongs with that propaganda machine Fox, home of the lowest common denominator "journalism."

DvIRGINIA   November 12th, 2009 11:42 am ET

Excellent choice! I admire the reporting of John King and look forward to a new perspective at this time-slot. I will admit, I did not truly agree with Lou Dobbs on many subject lines. Hopefully, Mr. King will not be as bias as most talk-show hosts and I am particularly impressed with his political knowledge. Intellegence is so necessary today, enough with opinions and on with more facts.

Wendell   November 12th, 2009 11:42 am ET

Lou was the best on CNN....I will now be 100% on FoxNews!

RJ   November 12th, 2009 11:42 am ET

I stopped watching Lou Dobbs long ago, when he changed from giving the straight facts and truths ! He started to try to out Fox, Fox News ! Every single night had the same theme, I can't believe we have a Black President. This guy has lost all creditability with thinking Americans ! Let him go to Fox and be on a non-news network !

John P.   November 12th, 2009 11:42 am ET

Ugh......I can't stomach John King. He seems so fake to me, especially when he tries to act like one of the "common-folk" in those "sit and talk at the local diner" segments. Yet another failed show in the works.

Duke   November 12th, 2009 11:41 am ET

I'm sure we'll see old sourpuss Lou on Fox in the near future. If you're a seanile tabloid reporter you will always have a home with Rupert Murdoch, Hammity and Orally.

John Urban   November 12th, 2009 11:41 am ET

Lou Dobbs leaving is long overdue! John King is a great choice as a replacement. You have me back as a viewer for that time slot.

James   November 12th, 2009 11:41 am ET

Lou Dobbs, will not be missed, it's about time. On the other hand, John King is a real gentleman that will bring more passion, more understanding and core values to the people. I have always held CNN as the best place for news and political discussions. Now Dobbs can go to Faux news and his psychos. please post my comments!!!

Jan   November 12th, 2009 11:41 am ET

Congrats John, well deserved!

Bob   November 12th, 2009 11:41 am ET

Well, that's it, I guess. With CNN viewer count continuing to tank, they run off the last "balanced" anchor in the stable. They now join mainline newspapers, MSNBC, CBS, etc. heading for the scrap heap of former media players and true professional journalists (there are so few left . . . ) that have lost the calling to report facts objectively and sold their souls to partisan political agenda persuasion and seduction. Shallow, arrogant "celebrity" addicts . . .Morrow, Cronkite – where are you when your country needs intelligence and integrity?

marge   November 12th, 2009 11:41 am ET

good choice.............Lou Dobbs will probably join glen beck at fox..where he belongs.

scott oneill   November 12th, 2009 11:40 am ET

You lost a good man. I don't know what it will take to wake this country up, but at least he tried. It's really sad how so many have attacked the our country and our core values – it's time to really look at what we have, what we've done, and how we got here. Lou speaks for most of the country and we're really sick and tired of the way the country is going. There are many issues facing us but by far the most serious one is the illegal immigration problem. While not in the spotlight right now, these people are like a growing cancer silently spreading. The nerve of these people just walking into our country, demanding services, breeding like rats, taking jobs, filling hospitals, filling jails, filling schools and in general bringing down our way of life, it too much to take. Get the message – we are sick of it!!!! Deport them all now, before this country becomes like a third rate central American cesspool. Thanks Lou – please become even louder in your efforts to let us know whats going on.

blf   November 12th, 2009 11:40 am ET

Congratulations, John. This is a good move. Lou was getting tired and very much a one issue man.

Mike B in Toronto   November 12th, 2009 11:40 am ET

Congratulations to John...he is very informative and professional. I look forward to his new show.

Good luck to Lou. I must say that I used to really enjoy him and his perspective, but over the past few years, his increasing desire to be an 'activist journalist' instead of a neutral professional one has resulted in me ceasing to watch him. It felt more like Fox than CNN when he was on. Somewhere else will be a better place for Lou.

David Bakish   November 12th, 2009 11:40 am ET

John King is an excellent choice to replace Lou Dobbs. Good riddance to an anchor with views increasingly skewed to the right. Maybe Dobbs' anti-immigrant views would be more appropriate on Fox News where ex-CNN "loony" Glenn Beck has found a new home.

JCP   November 12th, 2009 11:40 am ET

Great choice, CNN! What took you so long to replace Dobbs? We have stopped watching Dobbs for a long time now.

Actually Dobbs should join Fox where he will feel right at home with Beck and O'Reilly.

Matt   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

This is very disappointing. John King is one of the worst "journalists" on CNN. He should have been let go months ago – now you're giving him a promotion to a prime-time slot. I was really hoping to have a reason to watch CNN again once I heard Lou Dobbs was gone. Oh well.

Karen   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Lou Dobbs gave me someone to dislike; this guy is simply boring. Fox news is too biased. Woe is me, but thank goodness for PBS.

AP   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

I love John King, I like this person as a Anchor of State of the Union , And now i like another program.I like CNN, Wolf you are fine for me.
AP.

southerncousin   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Thanks for not replacing Lou with that phoney, unrepentant liar Rick Sanchez. He did a hatchet job on Rush Limbaugh using all kinds of false information and when it got proven to be false, twittered, "my bad." That makes him another non-objective, lying liberal phoney.

yvonne   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Well, it's time. Congratulations on a well-deserved placement for John King. I was not a fan of Lou Dobbs, but wish him well.

slim   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Congrats! John King. I wouldn’t be surprise if Lou Dobbs join Fox News.

Dan Justicz   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Thank God.

John King is a journalist.

Lou Dobbs is a hate-filled zenophobe.

I'm relieved that CNN has seen the light on this issue.

John Tucker   November 12th, 2009 11:39 am ET

Thanks for getting rid of Lou Dobbs!

bill   November 12th, 2009 11:38 am ET

And of course, your obvious slants will be included with your new program. Something else NOT to watch on CNN. Good luck competing with Shepard Smith.

Joe Smoe   November 12th, 2009 11:38 am ET

Glad to see Dobbs leaving, he will probably wind up on FOX like the
rest if the nut cases.
Don't think to highly of John King either though will have to wait and see what his agenda is.

Dorothy Goldstein   November 12th, 2009 11:38 am ET

I am thrilled that John King is taking over Lou Dobbs spot. Couldn't watch Dobbs anymore. He was definately becoming too negative. John King will be wonderful, as he is now on CNN. We have always enjoyed John King....GREAT CHOICE.

Thank you.

M Chase   November 12th, 2009 11:38 am ET

Shame on you CNN! Just what you needed – another "King" name added to your bias reporting news team!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a gonner, but what do care anyway?

Sandra   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

I am glad to see John in this time slot. I used to enjoy Lou Dobbs' Moneyline, but then his show morphed into something else–a daily gripe session on immigration. Hopefully, John keeps the content interesting and varied on his show.

philip   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

well done cnn. is high time lou dobbs get is ass out of cnn. He lacks true professionalism in the news business. john king is one my cnn favourites.

fumblinstumblinoidiot   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

I think its too little too late for you CNN..you have lost all creditibility with your viewership with your constant left leaning reporting..your ratings have sunk faster than the Titanic and currently resides at the bottom with CNBC..perhaps if you practiced truthful and honest reporting instead of just being another obama rumpswab you might actually get viewers to watch again..just one persons opinion of course

Marilynn, (Wilmington, NC)   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

Thrilled to hear this news... I had turned completely away from CNN during the Dobbs "opinion cast".. I mean newscast. Love watching John and his "magic wall," love watching him on State of the Union.

Congrats John, and good luck with this new endeavour.

h sutherland   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

He will have a hard time replacing a voice like Lou's. Lou was a breath of fresh air after listening to Begala. I hope that he will be unbiased and not fall under the thumb of CNN. The reason of Lou's quitting is unknown. However, it is felt that the bosses at CNN did not like having a moderate being so successful. It will be interesting to see how much CNN,s rating drop.

Lawrence Taniform   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

Great to have you John. With Dobbs gone, I'm staying tuned to CNN again at 4pm pacific everyday.

Charles   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

Thank God you have CNN have finaly fired Lou Dobbs, his views and coments regarding immagrants are the same as the one broancasted in Rwanda in 1994 genoside which made 1 milloin human being murdered, bravoo CNN and can't wait to be grued @ 7 pm to listen to Jonh

Bob from Pittsburgh   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

It will be a nice change..

It will be hard to miss Lou, His bias and extreme views only poisoned the evening news.

Thank you CNN, now I don't have to change the channel.

Adios Lou…

Harvey Thomson   November 12th, 2009 11:37 am ET

I'm delighted to hear that John King is replacing Lou Dobbs. I wish Dobbs well in his new venture and am delighted to see the last of his smirking, fulminating rabble rousing under the guise of "independent".

Geraldine Singleton   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

Thank, God! Finally. I stopped watching Lou Dobbs almost a year ago.

Jim George   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

You must be kidding. Why in the world would you allow Lou Dobbs to leave. I left Bill O'Reilly and Hannity when I discovered Mr. Dobbs about four years ago, he is the most honest news person you have. His program was the only one on CNN that we watched. We can now delete CNN from our channel lineup. Back to Fox we go..

Diane Keichinger   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

congrats to John King. I enjoy watching him and his maps.
I hope that CNN will replace him wih a person of color on the
weekend CNN needs to add some color to their lineup.

Diane

EDWARD   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

I'm happy, now i don't have to turn the channel!

Nicole   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

Bye Bye Lou! Can't say I'm going to miss you

dinah   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

My prayers are answered. I don't have to watch Katie anymore.

Josh in GA   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

Ooh. Ooh. Please tell me there'll be magic boards...

Give me a break. Who cares?!

We Won Get Over It   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

One more yes yes yes republican man who doesn't have the guts to ask any piercing questions.

Hammerer   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

CNN has the lowest number of viewers of the cable news offerings. Watch it sink lower after they bowed to the left and the White House to manage the news as required to spin events and be politically correct. They will not fall in line with the other government controlled news organizations and report in lock step with the others.

Tracey   November 12th, 2009 11:36 am ET

Much better CNN....good choice. Good luck to Lou at Fox, he'll fit in better over there.

piyush swami   November 12th, 2009 11:35 am ET

Great choice! John King knows the difference between news and a point of view. The role of a show like the one Lou Dobbs did was not to hammer down a view point (without regard to the contrary) but to promote dialogue on an issue that concerns the viewers. Mr. Dobbs crossed that line a long time ago, and I quit watching his show. I am looking forward to be watching CNN channel again at 7 pm.

Pat Howells   November 12th, 2009 11:34 am ET

When Lou finishes with CNN so do I.

Bob Wysocki from Barrie Ontario   November 12th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Lou Dobbs will be missed across the Northern hemisphere, especially in Canada, we don't have anyone here in Canada that has his tenacity to argue with such intelligence the issues of today .
John King is likeable but he is no Lou Dobbs !

It's a sad day for all of us "Americans"

Lawrence Taniform   November 12th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Great to have you John. With Dobbs gone, I'm staying tuned to CNN again at 4pm Eastern everyday.

J. L. W.   November 12th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Dobbs will be a big loss. He had best program on CNN.

Murthy   November 12th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Glad to hear that John King will take over this time slot. Have been waiting for this forever.

phil   November 12th, 2009 11:33 am ET

lame, i was hoping that would give the spot to Jack Cafferty.

Beverly - NYC   November 12th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Fareed Zakaria should have this nightly timeslot, his GPS show on Sunday's is one of the smartest show on CNN. With the selection of John King CNN has traded one Republican talkingpoint mouthpiece for another.

john   November 12th, 2009 11:32 am ET

whereever King goes, he'll do great. I have so much respect for his knowledge of politics and professional jounalism.

DJ   November 12th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Long overdue for CNN to make such changes. Congrats John King. May be Lou Dobbs can find a new home at FIX News/Rumors.

Ken in NC   November 12th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Maybe I will start watching CNN again for a while. I left CNN before the elections because of The Lou Dobbs Show and The Campbell Brown Show. I only watched CNN because of Wolf, Jack Cafferty and AC/360.

I'm sure we will hear from Lou Dobbs again over at "FIX" NEWS along beside the CNN reject, Glenn Beck.

Brian Wilks   November 12th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Hurray – now we might get straight news without all of the 'this is my personal take on the world' stuff that infected Dobbs' programme.

Greg   November 12th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Looking forward to this welcomed change! I love John King!

Antonio   November 12th, 2009 11:31 am ET

At a time when their are so few African Americans on tv I was hoping CNN would finally give an African American a news show to headline. I am a litle dissapointed in CNN. I hope no one takes this is a race issue but African American or for that matter minority views are not really represented in this 24 hour news cycle on any network and its sad too see no network is trying.Good Luck John King but you already have a show which pretty much takes up all of Sunday morning can we get some other voices a chance to speak up on the issues.

Albert   November 12th, 2009 11:31 am ET

It could not happen to a nicer guy than John King. But I was quietly supporting Candy Crowley for the spot just to make CNN sort of a equal opportunity employer for the high profile jobs. No doubt Ms. Crowley is quaified, but I also like and respect John King a lot.

This is a nice improvement for that 7 pm time slot.

Thanks CNN. I can come back now.. Shepard Smith was getting my attention while CNN was showing Lou Dobbs at 7 pm.

jack in lombard   November 12th, 2009 11:31 am ET

Stopped watching Lou Dobbs many months ago when I tired of his diatribes against everyone & everything. Now that he has gone, maybe he'll run for an office where he can show us how smart he is – instead of constantly telling us how stupid everyone else is.

Good luck – good riddens....

DaShaun Gaines   November 12th, 2009 11:31 am ET

I think this is wonderful, i didn't really like the way Lou Dobbs Reported the News on Cnn.

Annette   November 12th, 2009 11:31 am ET

Congratulations John!

Louis Coleman   November 12th, 2009 11:30 am ET

Good Riddance!! Mr. Dobbs offered more negative than positve views. It is time NOW that our country come together as the UNITED STATES working as one to find common ground on our problems as opposed to always pulling others down. I've always felt if he veiwed NO ONE other than himself as having the RIGHT answer, than he should run for President.

steve   November 12th, 2009 11:30 am ET

This won't last long.

E Duke   November 12th, 2009 11:30 am ET

This is a definite change for the better – an upgrade to a more thoughtful, less self-centered approach. Thank you, CNN.

peter   November 12th, 2009 11:30 am ET

John King will be a wonderful replacement. Lou Dodds will end up on Fox .

Nixon   November 12th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Good selection. I love John King to replace Lou Dobbs.

Rob   November 12th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Lou needed to go a long time ago. He has become a bitter opiniated man. My guess is he'll end up on FOX with the rest of the gas bags.

American Expat   November 12th, 2009 11:29 am ET

I suspect Dobbs was asked to resign; over the past few years, he has leaned further and further to the right!

H-Town Girl   November 12th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Please give Rick Sanchez a program. He has earned and deserves so much more than than an hour Monday – Friday............

Hispanics are a growing population (I speak only for those who were born here and are of legal residence) and it would be nice and well deserved to see one of our own lead an informative program.....

Craig Monson   November 12th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Seeing that CNN has caved to the special interest groups of open borders groups. Groups that fight for the interests of criminals I can and will not support any of your news coverage again. I have been along time supporter of CNN but I can see who is now controlling how your news station will cover this hot topic. Of course your not alone in who they control because your in good company of our Senate, Congress and the U.S. Presidentance. The working class is being sold out and only Mr. Dobbs fought for our rights. So prepare to open the flood gates and open the borders for cheap labor to bring down our standard of living. Let's not forget how they are exploiting our social service programs. When it will be time for the baby boomers to retire the program will be bankrupt for them exploiting that very system. Good luck with your basis coverage!

Craig   November 12th, 2009 11:28 am ET

Take care Lu didn’t always agree with your opinions on the issues but you told it like it is. Let’s brighten up the time slot by giving Robin Meade a one hour show in the evening hours. I’m sure the ratings would be sky high with her on at night, after all nobody tells it like she does!
Craig K

Mike   November 12th, 2009 11:28 am ET

"The program will reflect what CNN is all about: straight facts from our anchors and the widest range of opinions from across the political spectrum,"

Yea right... Sounds like John King will say whatever CNN pays him to say.

C. Wiswell   November 12th, 2009 11:28 am ET

I clapped when I heard that Lou Dobbs was leaving. He was so opinionated that he was rude to guests who did not agree with him. He belongs on FOX.

It's good to hear that John King will be taking over. I consider him one of the fairest news reporters around, and I look forward to watching him. He is a class act. Yeah for CNN!

John Bachinski   November 12th, 2009 11:28 am ET

The loss of Lou Dobbs is a major blow to CNN. He was one of the few commentators I watched on a regular basis. John King is not in the same league as Lou.

John

Brian Buchholz   November 12th, 2009 11:28 am ET

Good Choice. I like John. I really like straight reporting with too much drama.

Deb (Long Island, NY)   November 12th, 2009 11:28 am ET

Great. I watch John King on Sundays but it conflicts with Meet the Press. This will be a better time slot. More importantly...Lou Dobbs is gone. As a latina woman this is wonderful!

ray   November 12th, 2009 11:28 am ET

It's a shame that cnn buckled under.you can bet i wont be watching cnn any more.Tired of all these imagrents running this country.

Gerardo   November 12th, 2009 11:27 am ET

I am glad that Lou Dubbs is leaving CNN. he took HIS forum to bash imigrants (legal or not) with no mercy in his words. I understand that this Country was lifted BY imigrants (a.k.a. colonists). So bashing and word kicking these people was totally unfair. One thing I will not miss is him...Good for CNN and Good for John King!

Gerard Keast   November 12th, 2009 11:27 am ET

Good choice! I thought Lou's prejudices were becoming too obvious for CNN's reputation for objectivity. Also, Mr. Dobbs' smarmy, self-righteous grin was becoming irritating.

Sniffit   November 12th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Makes sense...just replace the neocon in independent's clothing with a GOP sympathizer...facade of "balance" achieved. At least we hopefully won't have to listen anymore to mindlessly ranted misuse of the adjective "illegal" as though it has suddenly become a noun.

deborah   November 12th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Good! I like John King. He is one of the last remaining journalists on television.

Jamie   November 12th, 2009 11:26 am ET

Good riddance, Dobbs! So when do you start at FOX?

AB   November 12th, 2009 11:26 am ET

John King is the most professional and personable news correspondent in the business.

Congratulations John!

Jim in Florida   November 12th, 2009 11:25 am ET

No surprise that Dobbs is leaving CNN – CNN is as firmly in Obama's pocket as MSNBC.

Dobbs is not.

Daniel Elkeslassy   November 12th, 2009 11:24 am ET

I love John King, but too many of your shows resemble each other and are thus repetitive. I would love to see a show like Crossfire comeback (though more like the earlier years rather than the later ones).

Juanita Aguirre   November 12th, 2009 11:24 am ET

John King will be a much welcome addition to that time slot. I'll start watching again.

A Kickin' Donkey   November 12th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Dobbs was fake, bombastic blowhard. He was no "Independent". He was anti-Obama and pro-Bush.

His daily question to viewers were hardly ever "fair & balanced" and almost always intended to incite and inflame.

Good riddance.

I'd like to see a show where the host calls takes any guest ... a "D" or and "R" ... to task when they spread false information, innuendo, half truths, etc. The Emmy winning program would be one where the host forces these pols to take positions on common sense questions like ....

Should the US be at war in Afghanistan today? By what date should we have the majority of our troops out?

Show we have tort reform in medical malpractice to drive costs down? What are you coging to do about it?

mcaufield   November 12th, 2009 11:23 am ET

I am glad CNN is making a change, but I don't know if it will be enough of a change to get back the viewers that were lost with the biased hate mongering that has marred the networks reputation. Why is CNN trying to make news stars rather than focusing on delivering the facts. All reporting is biased by what is reported and what is not reported, but on CNN lately to speak of the news being biased is to gravely understate the problem.

Al Alvarez   November 12th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Great move. We welcome John King's fair-minded approach to news.

We all needed a break from Lou Dobbs hateful anti-Mexican rants. He was as Independent as Rush Limbaugh and really belonged on the "Fair and Balanced" network.

Lou   November 12th, 2009 11:23 am ET

A sigh of relief is now present at CNN with the leaving of Lou Dobbs, CNN a state Run/controlled media news outlet.

I will one of those 870,000 who will no longer EVER to view CNN even though my cable company pays u a fee for a service I no longer need.

His replacement will not last, John King; what can he do to attract my attention?? NOTHING, he is a nobody.

Good bye cnn

Ace   November 12th, 2009 11:23 am ET

This I think will be a great move for CNN.

Robert   November 12th, 2009 11:23 am ET

CNN needs more fact and less opinion. Hopefully, King will work towards that.

CNN needs to learn from the mistakes of Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs. Their programs were highly partisan and were not actually NEWS. CNN is is supposed to be the Cable News Network. Not Political Opinion Network.

Carol Norris   November 12th, 2009 11:22 am ET

he is just angry and vents and is doesn't support anyone.
he is way too superior

Larry Dameron   November 12th, 2009 11:22 am ET

I am very happy to see Lou Dobbs out. I am a BIG fan of CNN and every night when Dobbs show starts I switch channels. John King will be a much fairer commentator. I have always felt that Lou Dobbs was obnoxious.

dimaroch   November 12th, 2009 11:22 am ET

Good move CNN!! Lou Dobbs was the most negative and obnoxious anchor on all of the news shows in my opinion (even worse than O'Reilly on Fox). He was a very weak spot in the CNN news cast. I think John King will be a great replacement.

historian   November 12th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Congratulations John King!

Lou Dobbs used to upset me so much with his horrific comments that I stopped watching his show. John's State of Union is interesting and informative and a class act. I hope Lou Dobbs goes into retirement as he has an ugly point of view on some issues. CNN and MSNBC will continue to be my two favorite stations for providing Excellent journalistic reporting.

Carol Norris   November 12th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Good!! Lou Dobbs is an angry curmudgeon that just criticizes everything in a holier than thou manner. its not helpful

Cheryl in NH   November 12th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Nice choice. Lou had become such a blow-hard. I want news that is exactly that...news. I don't want opinions. I want info to help me form my own opinion. Discussion groups are good, but not one dude pushing his opinions down our throats. That, and John's hotter. ;) Hey, nothing wrong with being easy on the eyes while delivering the news!

Neil Snyder   November 12th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Good Riddance:

Dobbs was a buffoon and a constant complainer. Rather than take an intellectual approach to seeking solutions he was quick to complain and criticize, many times without a full set of facts. Given the credulous nature of the American public, his rantings only served to provide discord.

His dialog is much more appropriate for Fox News or other news media with constricted views.

If Dobbs has any sincerity, let him run for Congress and see how easy it is to make changes for the better. Given his years of exposure to issues, you'd think he'd be a little smarter.

vernis Robertson   November 12th, 2009 11:21 am ET

The problem with these news organizations now is that , some of them don't no report the truth . The only thing they want is ratings if that means lying to the american people.

Basil Obinyan   November 12th, 2009 11:21 am ET

John King is one of the best political reporters of our time. I make it a point of duty to watch the state of the union every Sunday at 8:00am; the program is very educative and insightful. Thank God Lou Dobbs is leaving CNN at long last to join the likes of Glen Beck, Sean Vanity and Bill O'Reily at Fox News, and I think that's where he belongs, good riddance to bad rubbish. I am glad John King is taking up that slot that has been wasted by Lou Dobbs over the years while claiming to fight for the masses and was enriching himself. He should go and join his fellow hate spreaders at FOX (False News).

Monique Manna   November 12th, 2009 11:21 am ET

Wow...I will miss Lou Dobbs...I do like John King too. Congratulations John and good luck Lou!

reality check   November 12th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Maybe replace Lou Dobbs with someone who is a real thinking person! .....Thom Hartmann comes to mind.

Larry   November 12th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Congratulations John!
Excellent choice!

Jeannine Dos   November 12th, 2009 11:20 am ET

What a breath of fresh air! Each time Lou Dobbs was on, I would change the channel. He is such a negative person, and rude too. Welcome John. Kudos to CNN, thank you for getting rid of Lou Dobbs, you were losing viewers.

Terry from West Texas   November 12th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Our news networks tell us what sells the most advertising. We like to read about feuds and squabbles, so converage of one politician telling another politician that he is lying trumps a story explaining America's health care system. No one wants to read a story about Senator So-and-so is doing a good job. We'd rather read about something that makes us indignant (Americans love feeling indignant about something.) The news networks give us what we want to read or hear, and that is our problem. That is because they are in sales, not news. Salespeople tell you what you want to hear.

There are, of course, NO stories about truth in advertising, the marketing of products, monopolistic corporations, etc. That would hurt advertising sales.

Casy   November 12th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Congrats Mr. King, hope you do well!

Peter Zamoyski   November 12th, 2009 11:20 am ET

I guess Lou Dobbs was too Independant for the left of center CNN. Too bad, guess I will now shift my viewing 100% to a more Independant minded network.

DJ   November 12th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Look for Dobbs to appear soon on the Fox network. Just like Geraldo,Beck and Gretta Sustrene all are defectors who boost or recharged their fledgling careers by jumping ship to remain relevant.

shirley-atl   November 12th, 2009 11:19 am ET

You're replacing a nut case with another one in the making who is headed down that same road, judging from the bias interviews that I watched in the beginning of his run on state of the union. I must admit that I have not watched King for sometime now, but I do hope that he has developed a more fair and balanced approach in his outings. CNN should really get back to presenting just the facts, and not promoting anchors who are there to promote their own political agendas. Personally, when I want to get just the news, I watch BBC America for what's really going on here and in the world in which we live.

Minnesota Joe   November 12th, 2009 11:19 am ET

At a boy Johnny!

Leo   November 12th, 2009 11:19 am ET

He will put on a very good program i'm sure. Very good pick for CNN.

Sharon   November 12th, 2009 11:19 am ET

I'm thrilled about having the intelligent and even-handed John King replace the increasingly incendiary Lou Dobbs!

George   November 12th, 2009 11:18 am ET

John, will you be fair and balanced like Fix noise? Please don't make it the TEA BAGGER show.

brad   November 12th, 2009 11:18 am ET

great choice! that or zakaria... the 2 on cnn who actually do a little reporting.

pa. independent   November 12th, 2009 11:17 am ET

John King has way too much air time and is turning CNN into Fox light, so I have stopped watching. He and his wife, Dana Bash, have had it in for Obama even before the election. They should be on Fox!

Henry   November 12th, 2009 11:17 am ET

I feel that many people were tired of Lou Dobbs. He had turned flaky and weird. It was best that he leave and he was digging himself into a whole.

Sankar K. Mukherjee   November 12th, 2009 11:17 am ET

Thanks Lou Dobbs left. He always said bad things about the immigrants. I stopped watching him for a number of years.

I've a request to Mr. John King.

Please try to keep your own opinion to yourself. To you the Democrat and the Republican are the same. If you say all the bad thing about Healthcare and the Democrat and gave more exposure to the Republican that's not right.

We like Mr. Anderson Cooper. Few months ago, I was watching the Cheney's Interview. You sound so timid I cannot believe it.
There are lots of things to learn from the Republicans like George Will, Tom Kane (former NJ Gov.)
Although I stated my opinion, our family like Mr. John King.
Thanks and Good luck for new position.

Cole-Boston   November 12th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Congratulations John! Looking forward to your program!!!!

ROBERT MAJKA   November 12th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Thank you Lou for leaving CNN, now the network can truly show it's true colors as a liberal loving Obama fan!!!!

Please CNN notify the nation in advance when you decide to finally brake suction from the President so that the shock wave doesn't knock your remaining viewers from their chairs.

Useyourbrain!!   November 12th, 2009 11:16 am ET

John King is no Lou Dobbs.....The show will take a big hit...downward.

jane-vt   November 12th, 2009 11:16 am ET

I wish CNN would just go back to news in the evening. Too much commentary. Hopefully Ted Turner buys this network back and puts it on the right track.

Tony   November 12th, 2009 11:16 am ET

John, Do not be bias like rightwing nutt Lou, no one is going to miss his departure. If you want to be loved by viewres than be impartial in your view and let others to talk . Lou never allowed other than his own opinion. make it interesting like Wolf Blitz, C.Brown and AC 360. GOOD LUCK..............

Darnell Jackson   November 12th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Congrats to you John King, you are one of my favorites on CNN. I'm so glad Lou Dobbs is finally off of this wonderful network with his racist views. I'm sure he wil have his platform on the FOX network soon.

ender   November 12th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Oh boy, more John King!!!!

(I hope you caught on to the sarcasm CCN)

vivian   November 12th, 2009 11:15 am ET

I like John King, but I think you have lost a great host Lou Dobbs. I will not be watching this show.

CNN again has let me down.

I will find something else to watch during this time. As to bias you should really take a look at the presedential election coverage that CNN covered.

I'm a hispanic and I never felt upset at anything Lou had to say. He was honest and well informed.

See ya.....

Barbara Canter   November 12th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Great choice! I felt Lou Dobbs was getting too radical and biased in his views. I would like to see a discussion on term limits for Congress and how that could be accomplished.

Giovina G. Crisalli   November 12th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Congratulations! Fantastic choice!!
John King is the voice of reason amid a sea of talking heads and full of themselves 'experts'. I always listen in to the conversation when John King is the host. He is respectful but dogged about asking the tough questions that need to be asked and answered.
I truly believe that there are many viewers and listeners like myself who want the facts not a lot of gibberish.
I cannot wait for your first broadcast!
Again, congratulations and much success!

Sick of political shows   November 12th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Couldn't CNN fill this slot with something that is NOT a political show? Maybe something more like their morning show? I am really exhausted of political discussion and news and would like something that covers other news and interests – and I don't mean HLN's 5 to 9 evenings of crime and hysteria! CNN, you have lost me now because of too many political shows and not enough of other news. I had perked up at the thought you might do something interesting to fill Lou Dobbs slot but I guess I was hoping for too much!

Doug S   November 12th, 2009 11:14 am ET

Addition by subtraction..... King will provide worthy and responsible reporting ... while Dobbs will join the Beck..Hannity ... O'Reilly clown show. Tis a shame ....that News programing has evolved into the fear factor /survivor menatlity of " The Reality" show. Thank God for CNN!

twirleygirl   November 12th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Excellent choice for the 7pm slot. In the last year we had gone from looking forward to Lou to rushing to turn him off as his show became more opinionated and narrow minded.

ObamaWillPayMyBills   November 12th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Now CNN is 99% a walking and talking point for Obama. Watch out Ms. Brown you could be next for that 1%.

MARY WHITE   November 12th, 2009 11:13 am ET

It is a shame that CNN and Dobbs are parting (for CNN). Dobbs will be fine because folks want to know the truth. CNN just lost more market share!

rich   November 12th, 2009 11:13 am ET

Straight facts from CNN? Why did Lou Dobbs leave, he did that, but Klein from CNN didn't want the real facts to be known. CNN will lose viewer since Dobbs have left. Jonathan Klein doesn't get his viewer and what we really want to know, just the real facts, not the crap that CNN keeps giving us. Just give us the truth CNN,

Beverly Bell   November 12th, 2009 11:13 am ET

It is time that an African American host a show on CNN. Roland Martin did a fine job filling in for Campbell Brown.

William C. Blossom   November 12th, 2009 11:13 am ET

This is exactly the right move. I'm glad Dobbs is gone and I throughly respect John King. He is well prepared and a skilled professional newman.

jwheeler   November 12th, 2009 11:12 am ET

Too bad. Dobbs will be missed. He was good at pinpointing what is wrong with Washington and Wall Street. and stirring up the pot. A necessary voice in the wilderness. King is too bland and stiff. He's a goody two shoes. CNN, you've gone soft.

whaley41   November 12th, 2009 11:11 am ET

One less viewer now. Only reason I watched CNN was Lou Dobbs. Best to you Lou in whatever you decide to do. Thanks for telling it like it is. No one else on CNN does.

michele cvet   November 12th, 2009 11:09 am ET

My husband and I are absolutely thrilled that Lou Dobbs is gone. In the past four moths, we have stopped watching CNN except for Anderson Cooper. I could not work all day and come home and eat dinner in front of the television and listen to his nonsense. Let him go to fox if he wants, but to continually mock our new Prsident with his know-it-all attitude and self-rightouness was making us sick. He is no loss whatsoever to CNN.

Jim   November 12th, 2009 11:09 am ET

I forgot to add:

this would be good fodder for the Daily Show.

rajamannan,concie   November 12th, 2009 11:09 am ET

Thank you CNN. I have been awaiting for this day. I always turned to another news channel like ED, Chris Mathews, Keith Oberman and Rachil Maddox and the rest Cnn News men who were fair and correct.

jaye   November 12th, 2009 11:09 am ET

John King is worthless – he will not insist that stories be backed up...he'll give his guest a pass, and allow the republicans to continue spreading their hate and lies on CNN.

Truth in journalism is a thing of the past – news shows are now reality news...the more bizarre and the more lies the better.

Bring real news back – and get rid of the republican haters and liars that clog the news channels....and get rid of Mary Matlin, Bill Bennett, and the worthless people that use their opinions as truth, instead of the lies they really are.

Jim   November 12th, 2009 11:08 am ET

This is not news, it is a advertisement.

Rhonda   November 12th, 2009 11:08 am ET

Whats the matter got to get someone who agrees with everything & does not have an opion of there own???????

Bob   November 12th, 2009 11:08 am ET

I really haven't listened to John King much before, but suspect that his views will more closely reflect the left leaning views of CNN. Here's wishing Lou Dobbs the best and hoping that he lands someplace that really appreciates him. I don't always agree with him, but appreciate that he is not just another talking head of the left.

anna roebuck   November 12th, 2009 11:08 am ET

So glad to see Lou Dobbs off CNN, I had stopped watching him months ago . He had just gotten too opinionated. I want facts not opinion! I'll form my own, thank you very much! King is a great choice as replacement....a real newsman!

chris case in texas   November 12th, 2009 11:07 am ET

He's the obivous choice to replace Lou Dobbs, although I think he leans too far to the right. Anyone care to guess where Mr. Dobbs is going? I'd bet my next Social Security check and retirement that he will be welcomed into Faux News with open arms. Now, he'll get to say what he really thinks. After all, Lou, it's all about the money, isn't it? Lou will be paid mega bucks to continue to question President Obamas birthplace. Where was Dobbs on the illegal war waged and all the money and lives that were lost during the Bush administration?

Chris ~ Albany, NY   November 12th, 2009 11:07 am ET

Deffinately better than Lou. I have to admit I watched Lou for many years but havn't the past few because it seemed as if he had just gottan old and angry...not exactly the kinda tv I wanted to watch.

Larry - Hazleton, pa   November 12th, 2009 11:07 am ET

Good luck Mr King.

Stephen in Bedford, TX   November 12th, 2009 11:06 am ET

Mr. King's first panel discussion will be between Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.

Anonymous   November 12th, 2009 11:05 am ET

King for Dobbs is a pretty good deal for CNN.

Andrew   November 12th, 2009 11:05 am ET

I like John King. I find he presents the news as news with very little spin. I look forward to watch CNN at 7 now.

mary mtl can   November 12th, 2009 11:04 am ET

not him again

Eric   November 12th, 2009 11:04 am ET

King is very objective and a perfect fit, it will be nice to see real news coverage in that time slot instead of slanted opinions.

strong   November 12th, 2009 11:04 am ET

Poor Lou Dobbs who got smeared for telling the truth. Feisty and honest, that was Lou.

Enter John King. He is a good boy who will do as he's told, he's a boring talking head.

Marian E. Paul   November 12th, 2009 11:04 am ET

I'm glad to see the back of Lou Dobbs...in the end he had become a poseur, with an inflated view of his own worth. Did you ever realize that he posed himself so he was looking up at the camera...kind of from under his eyebrows. I guess he thought this showed him to his best advantage. He was way to opinionated for me...and Campbell Brown is starting to go that way, too.

precious   November 12th, 2009 11:03 am ET

Oh Well. Lou Dobbs was my favorite host. Now I will have to cling solely to Fox. I loved Lou Dobbs because he was an "Independent" who wasn't afraid to speak the "mind/truth".

Goodbye CNN.

victim of republican greed   November 12th, 2009 11:02 am ET

It has to be hard for a news organization who uses fact checking to compete with Fox. For the average American, it is more fun to watch a network where the entertainers are never worried about facts, and the more bizarre the story, the better.

jsmith   November 12th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Ok Im just guessing here, more all Liberal opnions and Kool Aid drinking Obama is perfect and Bush did it opinions. Thats why CNN has such bad ratings and probably will not get much better. The facts are there CNN, and people need you to report them without spin to one side.

Dutch/Bad Newz, VA   November 12th, 2009 11:02 am ET

John King is further too the right than Lou Dobbs is. They should give the slot to Soledad O'brien.

Lynne   November 12th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Big mistake to pick such a boring, Republican slanted anchor. CNN's ratings are sinking and this will continue until they stop with the nonstop politics and start delivering the NEWS.

bobby   November 12th, 2009 11:02 am ET

oh great. just another low ratings show by CNN. Looking forward to it.

yuri   November 12th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Goodness gracious! Lou Dobbs sounded like a man w/ a wry smiling facade, hiding a lot of ire in his heart. he did exhibit his duugeon in a lot of different ways, particularlty on matters of immigration.

JK, on the other hand, presents a serene and sedate demeanor, and does not bat an eye lid easily. Kudos to King.

Jim Palmer   November 12th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Very good choice! John King will be great at 7pm.

I will start watching again.

I had gotten tired of Lou being negative on everything.

felicia   November 12th, 2009 11:01 am ET

John king is just another right-wing nut

Roger Cyr   November 12th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Tremendous news to hear that Dobbs is leaving your network. I would imagine he will be working at Fox or for Limbaugh. Whatever now I will start watching CNN again. Roger

Jose in TX   November 12th, 2009 11:00 am ET

I'm sorry to see Lou Dobbs leave since I really liked his show. Lou calls it right down the middle. A lot of liberals really liked him and didn't complain much when he was constantly criticizing the Bush administration. Now that he's criticizing Obama, he makes those same liberals squirm, including the faithful liberals at CNN.
Best of Luck Lou! You'll be missed.....

C. Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 12th, 2009 11:00 am ET

Lou Dobbs never changed his subject matter and always took on the negativity of every subject matter, I never heard him say anything positive about anything. Lou Dobbs was like he was locked in some kind of box and couldn't get outside the box. I love CNN and glad Lou Dobbs did the right thing and moved on, King is interesting.

Peter s   November 12th, 2009 10:59 am ET

Bravo that angry old man is gone!. He is free to go and join fox oops fix news or the tea party movement. Thanks CNN for realizing that, lou dobbs have become a liability to your organization.

katiec   November 12th, 2009 10:58 am ET

Straight facts from CNN anchors is a thing of the past.
They force the Palins, Cheneys, Roves and any irresponsible
republican they can find down our throats, gushing over and supporting their lies, distortions, sewer tactics. No fact checks,
no negativity unless of course it is a Democrat.
CNN hides behind "trust" while fully spewing their bias.
Even our Jack has joined the ranks of those who have no integrity,
honor, only supporting their big business, republican agenda.

Pragmatic   November 12th, 2009 10:57 am ET

If I want to watch Lou Dobbs, I'll tune in to Fox News ... he will probably be there by the middle of next week and fit in just fine.

Marilyn   November 12th, 2009 10:57 am ET

I hate it that Lou Dobbs is leaving CNN. He was the only independent voice on TV in the evenings. I guess I have no reason to watch CNN at all anymore. They have become almost as bad as MSNBC in bowing to the left wing of the democratic party. I guess I'll just confine my evening viewing to Food Network and HGTV.

Emma   November 12th, 2009 10:56 am ET

I quit watching Lou Dobbs more than one year ago when I realized he was inflammatory in his criticisms of many issues. I wondered if that was what CNN wanted him to do and I questioned CNN's ethics.

John King is less offensive, but seems to be a right wing advocate.

Wolfe   November 12th, 2009 10:55 am ET

It was way past time for Lou to go,

Fair is Fair   November 12th, 2009 10:55 am ET

Oh man... this is going to make more frothing-at-the-mouth liberal heads explode than a Sarah Palin article.

EXCELLENT! Great job, CNN! You've made my day!

zazzle.com/TheProgram   November 12th, 2009 10:41 am ET

really? he's fine i guess, but couldn't they get someone a bit more engaging? he's almost as dry as Wolf.
