Palin: We're 'not really into the drama'

Palin discussed Levi Johnston and the Katie Couric interviews in her sit-down with Oprah.
Palin discussed Levi Johnston and the Katie Couric interviews in her sit-down with Oprah.

(CNN) – Sarah Palin and her almost-son-in-law Levi Johnston have been in a war of words for months, but the former Alaska governor told Oprah Winfrey in just-released clips of the highly-anticipated interview that he is still "part of the family."

While not directly saying whether or not Johnston is invited to Thanksgiving dinner, Palin said her family still has affection for Johnston.

"It's lovely to think that he would ever even consider such a thing," Palin told Winfrey. "Because of course you want - he is a part of the family and you want to bring him in the fold and kind of under your wing. And he needs that, too."

Discussing her new book, "Going Rogue: An American Life," on Winfrey's famous couch, Palin said she and her family want to make peace with Johnston and move past the dramatics that have unfolded in the media over the last year. Johnston was once engaged to Palin's daughter, Bristol, and is the father of Palin's grandson, Tripp.

"I think he needs to know that he is loved and he has the most beautiful child, and this can all work out for good," Palin said. "It really can. We don't have to keep going down this road of controversy and drama all the time. We're not really into the drama. We don't really like that. We're more productive."

Palin also called her interview with Katie Couric during the campaign a "bad interview," but said the campaign staff encouraged her to continue to do others after that.

"The campaign said, 'Right on. Good. You're showing your independence. This is what America needs to see and it was a good interview,'" Palin said. "And of course I'm thinking, if you thought that was a good interview, I don't know what a bad interview is because I knew it was a bad interview."

Palin's full sit-down with Winfrey will air on Monday, the day before her memoir hits bookstores.

  3. George Bush Was A Moron

George W. Bush is ranked the 7th Worst President by over 400 historians. You can not change that fact. The worst attack in this country's history was done on his watch. The worst disaster (Katrina) in this country's history happened on his watch. This man was radio-active from the very beginning. I hope and pray the country will never be desperate enough to ever elect someone who clearly was in over his head.

Sarah: I really hope that Oprah took her anti-nausea medication prior to this interview – sounds like she likely needed it. You give a whole new meaning to the word "fake". That book must really be a piece of work. It is unfortunate that in a economic crisis people are throwing away their money on such conservative waste. I also understand that you and Carrie Prejean have become friends. WOW! Yes, experts always say that those with passive-aggressive personalities seem to stick together. RIght on Target!!!!

You know, if I respected one thing about Sarah Palin during the campaign, and this is REALLY STRETCHING, it is the fact that she declined the opportunity to be on Oprah. I mean they seem to be polar opposites in almost every way so why go on someone's TV show and deal with that whole thing. Now, I guess because she's attempting to sell this book someone wrote for her, she's all about doing the show. So, for that one little minute, hidden in time, I thought Sarah Palin wasn't a money hungry, hate monger with a huge "all about me" complex...my bad!

This lying wonder has nothing to say that I want to hear. She is a warmongering, chickenhawk, tin-foil wearing, birther-deather, who should not be given the time of day, let alone a national platform.

You'll learn the hard way America, this woman is toxic.

Ms. Palin needs to sell her book, Ms. Oprah needs her ratings and the Viewers need some entertainment. Everyone seems to be a winner here. However, I am not sure we the viewers will understand anything Palin is saying. Get your popcorn ready! :)

OMG – "Still part of the famiy?" Who is Palin kidding. She just wants to shut him up . Under that calm demeanor she portrays, I believe she's coming unglued at the seams.

She cashed in on her fifteen minutes of fame, and continues to do so. Levi may be many things, but he's no dope. He wants the same kind of deal for himself. They are both crass money-grubbers. Send them both back to the Arctic Circle, and good riddance.

Well..I think it's going to rain quite a bit in my hood today, as this is the very first time that I agree with ANYTHING Sarah Palins has to say. Smart move Sarah. Your daughter picked him, and they have a child. You guys have to now live with him for a long time to come.

'We don't have to keep going down this road of controversy and drama all the time. We're not really into the drama. We don't really like that. We're more productive.'

I find this highly amusing. My God what a disconnect this rogue has from reality.

Palin's appearance will draw huge ratings to the Oprah Winfrey show. I hope the interview gives a real glimpse into who she really is as a woman.
