David Axelrod tells CNN that he'll borrow a copy of former Gov. Palin's new book.

(CNN) – “Going Rogue,” the forthcoming memoir of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may already be a bestseller but the former Republican vice presidential nominee won’t be getting a royalty from one Democratic politico.

Instead of purchasing his own, Obama adviser David Axelrod tells CNN he will borrow the much anticipated book from another veteran of the Obama campaign.

“I think I’ll borrow [former Obama campaign manager David] Plouffe’s copy,” Axelrod said in an interview that aired Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, “I don’t see why we both have to buy one.

“Once he’s done with it maybe he can summarize it for me or lend it to me and I’ll give it a look.”

Asked whether he thought President Obama wants to read Palin’s new book, Axelrod chuckled and said “I think the president’s pretty busy right now. I don’t know that that’s on his immediate reading list.

“He’s reading reams of papers related to the many issues that he has to confront so I’m not sure that will be at the top of his list right now.”

This is not the first time that Axelrod has expressed a lack of interest in all things Palin. Back in July, on the eve of Palin resigning as Alaska’s governor, Axelrod said he did not spend time thinking the former Republican vice presidential hopeful’s next move.

“I can tell you with absolutely honesty,” Axelrod said in July, “that when I sit around with my political friends . . . there’s very little or no discussion of Sarah Palin.”

“And I really have no idea what Gov. Palin is going to do,” the Obama aide told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King. “She’s entering private life now. We wish her well and it’s up to her to decide what role she’s going to play in the future. She’s got plenty of advice, I’m sure. She doesn’t need mine.

I think that Sara Palin's politics are as ignorant as she is. I favor "woman's choice", "gay equality and rights", "health care reform with a public option". I think that today's mainstream Republicans are sick, sick, sick. They think that they are protecting the constitution to deny human beings equal rights and to force poor people to go without health care, and to protect an unborn fetus who hasn't even been born yet!!! Hello!! is anybody home???? At the same time, they gladly accept publicly supported roads, parks, schools, governments, fire and police departments....but oh, no!!! not health!!!! What kind of idiots are they?

Carole   November 15th, 2009 3:22 pm ET

To buy Palin's book is to support racisim, fear and hatred.

Just put a match to your money.......you will get more in return.

Cnn please post my comment! 1 love!   November 15th, 2009 3:21 pm ET

God forbid we have a President who understands we dont always have to go it alone...and that having allies makes us responsible and unites the world to our cause of defeating alqaida....Obama is not dithering he is trying to make sure America doesnt go it completely alone on this one hence his trip overses...if Bush had listened to our allies and gone into afghanistan and perhaps some parts of pakistan to fish out bin laden instead of Iraq we wouldnt have been on the brink of loosing the greatest country ever given to mankind last year....America!!! Take your time MR PRESIDENT! The majority who put you in office will always vote for you because we know we put a smart decent man in office! The end of the Republican party is nigh and and a strong third party will emerge, still Obama wins in 2012 handily! Done!

Terry, TX   November 15th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

Why is CNN talking about Palin with Alexrod.... how about the soldiers and baby and 30 gunned down....that were massacred by an Islamic Pyschopath Terrorist Hasan. CNN are you continuing to be politically correct.... and erasing the slaughter off your home pages.

Martha Hussein Baker   November 15th, 2009 3:13 pm ET

According to the reviews I've read, this should be listed under "fiction" since she "goes rogue" with the truth on a number of occasions.

Jim   November 15th, 2009 3:09 pm ET

This is a shameful attempt to stir up controversy. Even the title is a half-truth; "Obama adviser won't be buying Palin's new book" sounds more hostile than the more accurate title "Obama adviser may borrow Palin's book from friend"

Whether Obama, or anyone else, reads or doesn't read Palin's book is not news. Stop pretending that it is important.

Naomi   November 15th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

The GOP is sunk if Palin becomes the nominee for 2012. Don't get me wrong, she is not a terrible person or politician, and she has been unfairly maligned in the media. But she is not qualified to be President and among educated Independents Palin has become a joke. Palin should run for Senate and get some seasoning. I think she is capable of changing a lot of opinions about her, but it will take time.

mike   November 15th, 2009 3:01 pm ET

self-styled MAVERICK a few months ago ashtonishingly has turned into a ROUGUE recently. It is not about her book. It is about her politics. In NY-23 she perfectly STARRED the role of a ROUGUE. She has shown to Republican leaders what a REALLY REAL ROUGUE CAN DO IN DESTROYING THE PARTY. She has successfully threw Scazzo out of the race. But this is the beginning. Next PREY will be in Florida. This means Sarah Palin has started the process of deflating the BIG TENT OF REPUBLICAN PARTY. My common sense tells me that the process of eliminating Scazzofa's will run faster than what pundits thought of. Why? Because, that is the only way out for Sarah to snatch away the Republican nomination. Of course, she knows, this elimination process will reduce her chance to win in any public office. Even I doubt, she can recapture the mayorship of Wassilla under current political tide. Oh yes! I did not say about her comeback. But when she left the field? She was in the field and she is in the field. The only thing changed is her priority. When she was maverick, good of the GOP was her mission. Now as rougue her mission is SELF-SERVICE at the cost of GOP. OH again. ROUGUEMANIA is paying divident.

Harvey   November 15th, 2009 2:59 pm ET

With all due respect, how can you come back from some place you have never been? Sarah Palin is a figment of her own imagination. If Sarah Palin is the best we can produce then perhaps the days of greatness for America are over. We seem to have lowered the bar of intelligence so low that ignorance is a prerequisite to appealing to the masses. You need a license to drive an automobile, but to become an elected official in the U.S. you need only the ability to speak, and have somewhat of a personality. In my opinion that is an accident waiting to happen.

Tampa   November 15th, 2009 2:58 pm ET

Sarah Palin is simply the Paris Hilton of the political area. All glitz, no substance. He has he book ghost written and refuses serious interviews. She doesn't understand a thing about healthcare or foreign matters, and she is quite simply not very smart. 5 schools to graduate with a degree in journalism. She doesn't want to be President, she doesn't wamt to run for president, whe wants to talk about running for President to make the big bucks and her time is now. She couldn't even govern Alaska. She is Dan Quayle in heels.

Plain Joe from da' back woods   November 15th, 2009 2:57 pm ET

Go Sarah! Go! The words will likely burn all of the left wing eyes out like holy water on a demon...LOLOLOL.

Nothing get the lefty looney base more fired up the everyday people; God Bless America!

Megan   November 15th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Sarah Palin was a one-hit wonder. She can sell a lot of books, or get a Fox gig, but she hasn't yet demonstrated anything close to mastery of either politics or public policy. The GOP has nothing to worry about, because it seems unlikely she will actually end up as a candidate for office.

Besides, surely no one would vote for a presidential candidate who had less than four years in significant public office...

She just has a company with the media. I am sure if it was Obama that lost the media would not be having him on air anymore...

kyra   November 15th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Yes, why kill two trees for Palin's comic book.

Mark   November 15th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Sarah Palin vaulted from unknown to international celebrity, a status she can probably retain as long as she desires. But no one but her true believers will take her seriously as a national candidate unless she finds a way to move toward the center, at least rhetorically. And that could diminish the ardor of her fan base. I suspect she will continue to be a powerful voice on the Right– one with as much if not more influence than Limbaugh and Beck. But can she put together a credible campaign and do well in Iowa and New Hampshire? Only if more credible GOP presidential candidates (all of them male, alas) crash and burn...

chris is cali   November 15th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

Sarah Palin's new book – Going Rogue: An American Life is 432 pages.

Harper Collins (the publisher) probably asked her for more content...but recent history tells us that she probably quit writing her book a little more than half way through the process.

kim   November 15th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

Sarah Palin: Come back from what? She never really left the national stage since running on the GOP presidential ticket with John McCain. This is just another cynical ploy by a politician hoping to cash in on their fame and celebrity. Now if she can only get on the Home Shopping Network...

Emma   November 15th, 2009 2:51 pm ET

Palin is a great example of there being a huge gap in her personal image and her public image. Typically, a healthy, secure person feels able to take responsibility for limitations and admit their humanness. (As in owning one's own stuff rather than blaming and whining about others who presumably make them look less than perfect.)

I do not plan to read Palin's book. I will be more than saturated with its contents by the media.

Joe   November 15th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

“Going Rogue,” the title of Sarah Palin’s erratic new memoir, comes from a phrase used by a disgruntled McCain aide to describe her going off-message during the campaign: among other things, for breaking with the campaign over its media strategy, its decision to pull out of Michigan and for speaking out about reports that the Republican Party had spent more than $150,000 on fancy designer duds for her and her family. In fact, the most sustained and vehement barbs in this book are directed not at Democrats or liberals or the press, but at the McCain campaign. The very campaign that plucked her out of Alaska, anointed her the G.O.P.’s vice presidential nominee and made her one of the most talked about women on the planet — someone who could command a reported $5 million for writing this book.....

Just as Ms. Palin’s planned book tour resembles a campaign rollout — complete with a bus tour and pit stops in battleground states — so the second half of this book often reads like a calculated attempt to position the author for 2012. She tries to compare herself to Ronald Reagan, by repeatedly invoking his name and record. She talks about being “a Commonsense Conservative” and worrying about the national deficit. And she attempts to explain, rationalize or refute controversial incidents and allegations that emerged during the 2008 race.

She can do all that but in my mind, the woman is nothing but a joke!

Adam   November 15th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

why is this newsworthy? I hate palin as much as the next person, but this was totally NOT worth the time reading. I dont care that a White House aide wont buy the book; yet he still may READ it.

John in Tampa   November 15th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

I'll give her my advice. Shut up and take a job at Dunkin' Donuts.

Montana   November 15th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

I wouldn't buy either, if anything I'd check it out from the library that is if it's not banned!

Tanbiker2   November 15th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

David Axelrod has the right idea. No one in their right mind should purchase Sarah Palin's ghost written book. After all you can read all you want about trailer trash in any local newspaper. Start with the police blotter and you'll get a good idea what life in the Palin family is like.

tasaad   November 15th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

CNN is so obsessed with Sarah Palin, that when someone says they do not put reading her book at the top of their to do list, they think it is news?!?

Gail   November 15th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Hmm... Maybe there will one at the library to read!

American Expat   November 15th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

I would not waste my time on it, bought or borrowed! First off, she did not write it - just let it out to a ghost writer. Secondly, it is probably rife with lies, which is her trade mark. The woman ought to go back to Alaska and take up shooting moose again, which is far better and more believable than shooting off her mouth!

Adalbert   November 15th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

What is there to buy?

Randy, San Francisco   November 15th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

Axelrod should not waste his time reading Palin's book. His time should be expended on more important matters.

Jacob   November 15th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

The only way republicans can claim they are still a valid party is by electing Huckabee. If it's Palin or Romney they're as irrelevant as ever.

Minnie   November 15th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

Why are the democrats so extremely afraid of Sarah Palin??

Could it be that she is so much smarter than they.??

Desmond   November 15th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Or re-cycle it quickly to make up for toxic carbon dioxide emissions and trees lost

me   November 15th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

Can I read it after you're done? Its like crash site curiosity, you don't want to look but... I guess it will be in the Goodwill book pile soon enough.

Don   November 15th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Wow, this mouthpiece won't be buying Palin's book. There's a shock! Thanks for reporting this CNN!

You betcha   November 15th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Many Americans can opt for "Going Rouge" instead, thanks ;-)

Chuck-Texas   November 15th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

I read a report on CNN identifying the top ten smartest dogs in the world. The "Border Collie" was the number 1 smartest dog, follow by the Poodle in the number 2 spot.As smart as these two dogs are, nether one has written a book.

Sarah should pay attention to this dog-gone example. The less one has to say, the less likely people will question one's intelligence. When you speak out, and don't have a clue as to what your talking about, removes all doubt about your lack of intelligence.

2012 prediction...   November 15th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Just a hunch...she will no doubt get the nod for repub primary. Just a strictly gut hunch...Hillary will make an attempt at the Dem nom depending on the political climate for Obama. Cat fight 2012!

PAUL W.   November 15th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Why pay to read lies? You can always watch FoxNews for free.

ken   November 15th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

I will borrow from my roomate too!

Bill from CA   November 15th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

Contrary to what CNN's coverage would suggest, not a lot of people care what Palin is doing, and it's not newsworthy when someone like Axelrod or anyone else reinforces that fact. The woman has used her 15 minutes to make a few million dollars off a book filled with half-truths and flat out lies about McCain (and many others, I'm sure), as well as spread her message of fear and hate to the extremists who support her. Believe it or not, despite the way CNN and Fox News report every little thing she says and does, the majority of Americans don't care about Sarah Palin, nor do we believe she is fit for office, as evidenced by us soundly rejecting her for VP in 2008. Now, can we talk about REAL issues, or has cable news/entertainment forgot how to do that?

Stacie   November 15th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

I won't buy it either, but I also don't want summaries or any more news stories about this silly ghost-written book.

NadineCA   November 15th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

You go David. Do not give Palin any more money or exposure. She needs to go away and the sooner we stop listening to her or paying her, she crawl back under the rock from where she came or at least go back to her base and stay out of the main stream. Can you say overkill.

Capitan   November 15th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

If Palin writes like she speaks, whoever buys the book (not I) will need
a good set of bi- focals and a 'Gibberish For Dummies' manual to help
decipher the uber-speak.

Dennis, Amarillo Texas   November 15th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

Hey, CNN, want you "men" ever get tired of kicking Palin in the stomach, smacking her in the mouth, blacking her eye's, and beating her head against the wall? When will your obsession end with hating her so much come to an end? But probably you'll never stop with your demeaning articles about Palin, since you can't beat up on Democrat women like Hillary Clinton.

Benjamin   November 15th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

Vivian   November 15th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

Only your door-mat Republicans who've been instructed by their ministers and clergy will dump hard-earned money for crap like this.

Evan   November 15th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

I doubt anyone with half a brain really would.

Patriot   November 15th, 2009 1:52 pm ET

Don't worry, there will be plenty of toothless imbreds buying the book with their hard earned unemployment checks.

Lisa   November 15th, 2009 1:50 pm ET

Just a thought, why did all the Republicans support George Bush's decision to enter into two wars and yet they can't seem to justify healthcare for Americans here at home. Don't blame the cost, those two wars are costing us dearly. The Republicans only support what Rushie tells them too. Morons.

Danny J   November 15th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

Cheapskate. Not a very classy guy, is he?

Garofulaar   November 15th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

PAUL   November 15th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Tammy   November 15th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

this book is comic relief in hard times

Darren   November 15th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

I will definitely be buying a copy of this book. I will then revisit the 19th century in 2 ways:
1. by laughing at the jokes that are the outdated thoughts of this feeble woman.
2. by ripping out each page and using it to wipe my arse with when I go to the toilet.
A very useful book!

Razorback   November 15th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

It took until almost 1:00 but here's the CNN bloggers' daily chance to show which is the party of hate and intolerance. Hint: it's NOT the Republicans, Repugs, Rethugs, Repukes or Repulbikkans!
BTW: Sarah Palin has a lot more support on this board than you see-I can't get anything out of moderation and I'm sure there there are many others like me!

Republican Turned Democrat   November 15th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

Definitely, not even for a "penny" that i will buy the Palin book. And, i won't even spend a second to check on the book. What else is there to read??? Let's just wait until 2012, when we will have all the "fun" and laughs just listening to her talk...ha, ha, ha, ha.

Tommie   November 15th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Why does the media(in all of its forms give any press and/or attention to Palin? She clearly is ignorant of many, many political issues as well as having a religious outlook that borders on the insane and the ridculous! My only guess is that her idiocy is exciting to some,at least in terms of news. However, given the attention as well as the excitment towards Palin by some only deepens my despair on the true stupidity of so many in this country that they would, for one minute, give her any seriousness as a political candidate of any kind! Oh the humanity!

suz   November 15th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

The only thing she excells in, is ignorance. She has nothing intelligent to say about any issue of significance. She is loved by those who tend to believe in all the fibs and stories she makes up. God help us all if she becomes a leader by hook or crook.

I am the flacid and powerless wizard of Rush   November 15th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

Just a thought:

The 2012 election is three years (1000 plus days) away. How does Sarah stay relevant? Are we prepared for three years of 24/7 Palin, the political version of Octomom?

Bassman   November 15th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

Did the media take a look at Sarah's "soft introduction" to her book and decide they were not going to ALLOW it? Gov. Palin's first interviews are with Oprah and Barbara Walters, which mean't we would see softer questions. Is it possible our media is so corrupt they decided to report portions of the book they felt Oprah would not ask about? And in doing so the first thing Americans heard about this book are negative. We already know the AP has lied about this book.

C. Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 15th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

Reading Palin's book is old news when the news is Palin continues to destroy herself as well as the Republican party every day; so that should sum up her book. Palin's rushing to make money because there is more to come out about her and she will be sued for her lies in this book.

SkiDoc   November 15th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Who gives a flying flip what Axelrod says about her book? Would anyone in the mainstream media have ever commented about a Bush official commenting similarly on one of the "O" tomes?

SOL   November 15th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

AxelGrease, everyone knows that you can't read. If it don't have pictures, you are lost.

Perusing-through   November 15th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

GOOD ADVICE AXE,

I have no interest in reading the words of a liar and hypocrite like Palin. Think about it, this is the same idiot that tried to rile up violent passions from wing-nut extremist by falsely claiming Obama "pal around with terrorists". If I ever need to reference a quote from the book, I'll borrow it from a knuckle dragging idiotic Limbaugh ditto-head.

David   November 15th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

Ah, c'mon Mr. Axlerod, buy a copy – you may run out of toilet paper one day.

Willy Brown   November 15th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Of course he who buy it. It's not a pop up book.

Nonstimulated & unemployed   November 15th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Apparently Axelrod is a fiscal conservative after all.

Mike Dallas   November 15th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

Sorry Ax, but after David "reads" missy's book, all the pages will have been colored in.

jane   November 15th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

I only hope Sarah is sharing her book royalties with CNN in exchange for their generous advertising.

A.B.   November 15th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

I applaud David Axelrod for not buying Sarah Palin's book thereby, contributing to her monetary fortune. I will follow suit and not by her book. I do not think its worth reading.

Martie   November 15th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

"Instead of purchasing his own, Obama adviser David Axelrod tells CNN he will borrow the much anticipated book from another veteran of the Obama campaign." Only CNN would publish such crap. Way to go Fiberals. This is news.... You guys are really scared and are saying anything, writing anything and just behaving like real idiots aren't you??? Why don't you concentrate on what matters – like trying the terrorists in NYC or something with a little meaning to it??? But no... here you guys go at it again... What a joke CNN is becoming!! More like a tabloid in my humble opinion!! But I'm sure enough Dems will weigh in on this stupid report to make it worth your while won't they???

Jonathan   November 15th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

"Going Rogue" a bestseller? LMAO! Are people that desperate to read about Sarah Palin? On the bright side, perhaps it makes their life seem all the better.

Tear Down the GOP Orange Curtain CA   November 15th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

As if she even wrote the book? I doubt she even knows what's in it, why would anyone even bother to read it. Like when Tom Ridge said quotes in his own book were not even true. Amazing...write a book on lies to make money , then claim after the book is published that info in their own book is not true.

Ken in NC   November 15th, 2009 1:14 pm ET

I wonder if Sarah is going to read it. It should not be much of a challange because there are about 14 pages of pictures in the book. She should be able to speed read them. Then she can add that to the list of books she has read or she can start one plus it would give her some idea of what she has been doing all these years.

JD in Moraga   November 15th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

As much as I love fiction, I won't be buying it either.

Michele   November 15th, 2009 1:11 pm ET
