Former New York City Mayor Giuliani said Sunday that former Alaska Gov. Palin got a positive reception even in a Democratic stronghold like New York.

(CNN) – A prominent, socially moderate Republican said Sunday that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has achieved iconic status with the Republican Party’s conservative base, is an asset to the GOP.

“I think Sarah Palin is great for the Republican Party,” former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said in an interview that aired on CNN’s State of the Union.

Giuliani said Palin generates a lot of enthusiasm for the party which has struggled to define itself and identify its leading voices after the McCain-Palin ticket lost its White House bid a year ago.

“She gets a tremendous reception even here in Democratic New York,” Giuliani, who hosted Palin at a New York Yankees game, told CNN’s John King.

“We’re very far away from a 2012 election,” Giuliani added, “Right now, I like figures who are creating interest in the Republican Party.

“Given the decisions that the Obama administration is making, particularly on this area of terrorism which concerns me probably more than any other, we’re going to need some pretty strong alternatives in 2012. I don’t know if it’ll be Sarah Palin or someone else. But right now it’s [about] developing interest in a Republican Party and we need a two-party system and we need a healthy one.”

Giuliani said he had not made any decision yet about whether he will seek the White House again in 2012 or run for New York governor. Asked when he had to make that decision, Giuliani told King “Not today, not this morning.”

You left something out of your report. Why? Rudi was asked if she would make a good president. He blew it off and avoided answering! He said that's in 2 or 3 years. He hardly endorsed her!!!! You should report the truth and you left this important part out

Chris   November 15th, 2009 9:17 pm ET

Calling Rudy Guliani a "moderate" is like calling Sarah Palin an "intellectual giant".

Ms. Palin has certainly generated excitement among a certain segment of the electorate, but are media "bling" and a cute smile and wink the key criteria for election to high office at the expense of integrity, judgment and substance?

We can do so much better and it's a shame that Rudy, in his pandering with statements like this, has squandered the credibility he gained several years ago.

I the Obama amateur hour over yet?
What a bunch of snot nose kids in our White House....

Jennifer   November 15th, 2009 9:13 pm ET

I hope palin will try to run on 2012, because it will be very entertaining to see although she will not be close to win obama. I am sure the republicans will elect her to be their candidate for president (very funny after all they elected bush for second time)...it will be sweet victory to watch...off course she will stumble again...come one! We all know she has no clue what’s going on...she is just a drama queen...rudy is another palin wanna be who never succeed

Anita Link   November 15th, 2009 9:12 pm ET

I am totally disappointed in you, Rudy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are as big a fool as Palin. She should NEVER be considered for ANY office Ever. I hope she gets exactly what she deserves.

Juliani was the last and behind all the Presidential canditates among the Republicans and he should not even think about saying a world at all. Sarah Pailin was the one that makes Mcain Lost the race. They are only welknown in their own party not all parties. And the Pailin is a quitter when it comes to tough times. She never talks on issue but fear and smear tactics. Forget her..............

Rudy and Mitt. Two 2008 rejects. Why do people even ask them their opinion? All they do is sit and play arm chair President. They don't have all the facts but they seem to have all the answers.

If these two are so insightful and in touch with America why didn't they get elected?

Mitt, tell your sons to enlist if you want to keep fighting in Afghanistan. At least Palin, McCain and Biden's sons went overseas.

Doug in Harrisburg   November 15th, 2009 8:57 pm ET

And does anyone really CARE what Giuliani thinks about anything? What an opportunistic ass.

Patty   November 15th, 2009 8:56 pm ET

The Republican Party can have Palin. America doesn't need her. It seems to me everytime I hear a man speak of her it's not always about her intellligence (or the lack of). The conversation gets back to how "hot" she is and she (supposedly) can shoot a gun. Fluff but no substance. As much as I am anti-Hillary, this chick doesn't hold a candle to Clinton. She's a joke and an embarrassement to us real working moms who don't have the option to "quit".

Jefe   November 15th, 2009 8:54 pm ET

It boggles my mind that someone who believes government should decide how people lead their lives could be considered a conservative. When thinking of nations who control how people live their lives, one generally thinks of China, Iran, North Korea. Rarely did anyone think, "the USA!", until these big-government, anti-freedom, social-control types came into being in the Republican party. Imagine how they would feel if a different religion made up the majority. Instead of Sarah Palin & Co., telling gays they can't get married, we could have Sarah Palin being required to wear a burqua in public.

Concerned American   November 15th, 2009 8:53 pm ET

Danno   November 15th, 2009 8:49 pm ET

Palin is a lousy choice to go on the Republican ticket and will assure a second term of the current mistake. She's a Republican in name only. Take a look at her minimal record as Governor of Alaska. Her big claim to fame was raising taxes on the oil companies in a deal that demonstrates how little she knows of anything. She needs to be booted off the ticket and ignored. Come on folks there are better choices out there.

Barbara   November 15th, 2009 8:48 pm ET

Of coure the former Mayor says such sweet things about that twittering idiot. He's thinking of running for Gov. of NyYand he doesn't want to be "Scozzafavaed" by those extreme right wing, tea-partying wingnuts-like Palin who is dumber than a box of rocks.

This from the person who ran probably the worst campaign for president in the modern era. He was the Republican frontrunner at the beginning of the campaign 2-3 years ago and barely won any electoral votes. Why should people take anything he says about presidential electoral politics seriously?

Kate   November 15th, 2009 8:39 pm ET

Neither is presidential material...Rudy or Palin. Palin doesn't have the knowledge it takes, and Rudy is a republican only for the republicans who want to destroy Social Sec and Medicare. This country was almost destroyed by Bush and I just hope Obama can bring it back. It may be impossible for any one to undo the harm Bush has done.

Danny   November 15th, 2009 8:39 pm ET

I am a life-long Republican whose first vote was for Eisenhower. When I moved to Oregon in 1978 the Governor, both Senators and the great majority of state legislators were Republican. Then along came the far right social conservatives who have destroyed the party. All state-wide offices and the majority of the legislature are now in Democratic hands. Sarah Palin is doing to the national Republican party exactly what was done in Oregon years ago. As a FISCAL conservative, I'm sad.

How sad!   November 15th, 2009 8:37 pm ET

I used to get really ache - deep down in my soul - when reading these comments about a fellow-American, Sarah Palin.

But now I realize that these people are nothing but empty inside - living a purpose-less life - and I just say a little prayer for them.

AncientRiver, New Mexico   November 15th, 2009 8:30 pm ET

Why is anyone paying any attention to anything that this has-been parochial politician has to say? He was only a mayor. Not a Senator, Representative, Governor or a Cabinet member. He has held no bif party or national office. Large as New York is, his opinion is really no more or less valid than that of any man or women in the street.

JeffB   November 15th, 2009 8:28 pm ET

Palin has no intention of ever running for president. (She didn't even like being governor of Alaska.) BUT, when asked about 2012 she has to leave the door open or otherwise her media coverage would evaporate and her book sales go down the tubes. She is simply pursuing the American Dream — becoming rich and famous. That's all she cares about.

I'm so embarrassed to be a Republican right now! I do not plan to switch parties, but at the moment I don't have much interest in GOP politics.
I appreciate a President who considers options, weighs concerns and makes educated decisions. I appreciate a President who can articulate various sides of an arguement. I appreciate a President who will respect the rights of individuals, and support the rights of women and minorities.
As long as the GOP is frothing at the mouth with the far right rhetoric, they can count me OUT.

Florida Resident   November 15th, 2009 8:22 pm ET

As a former NYer, I can say clearly that there are many reasons that Giuliani is reviled in NYC. He made his money on the tragedy of 9/11 for one and the FD and PD hate him for it.
Giuliani is out of touch with those who have watched Palin and don't believe she has 2 brain cells to rub together unless they $ involved – just like Giuliani. The GOP (which was my party until they left me for the evangelical wingnuts) is out of touch and imploding.

Janet   November 15th, 2009 8:21 pm ET

I am baffled by people thinking Sarah Palin is a viable presidential candidate. Even if she had my exact view on all matters (which she does not) I would not think she is qualified to represent me. It is not a criticism per se. I do not believe just any person who has an opinion about neurosurgery is qualified to be a surgeon if she is not educated and well practiced in that field. Ms. Palin does not seem even basically equipped to deal with the rigors, intricacies and nuances of intra and international governmental affairs. This is not a bi-partisan comment. I do believe that there are governmental officials, even with whom I disagree, who are cable of leading. Sarah Palin will never be one of them.

Dan R.   November 15th, 2009 8:20 pm ET

What happened to Giuliani? I used to respect him. He has become such a tool, first by running a disastrous campaign for prez, and now by saying Palin is good for the GOP. I mean if this doesn't seal the deal on the Republican party. When so-called moderates think Palin is good, come on folks. She is so whacked. She believes in creationism, she kills endangered animals for fun, and has no intellect what-so-ever. I actually hope the GOP nominates her for their candidate. Because she won't only lose, but be utterly humiliated. And that will be the end of her 15 min of fame. And for Rudy, your time is long gone. You were a voice of reason at one point, now you are totally irrelevant!

jerryvaldez@earthlink.net   November 15th, 2009 8:19 pm ET

This from a presidential candidate who thought it was best to skip the early states and thought his time in Florida was well spent speeding his election bus around a race track in Daytona. Oh, btw, he also threw his faminly under the bus to chase a younger woman. Not a leader of the GOP, we need to do a lot better than this.

Why anyone wants to know what the brain dead hick that is Sarah Palin thinks is beyond me. I once had hopes for you Rudy.

MInnesota Resident   November 15th, 2009 8:18 pm ET

Calling Rudy Giuliani a "moderate" shows how far to the right CNN has moved in order to try to draw in Fox News watchers. Pretty soon they will be calling Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, and ex-CNNer Glenn Beck moderates.

Eric   November 15th, 2009 8:18 pm ET

As a moderate independent, I have to say that Sarah Palin is the most unattractive candidate out there for any office. She has no clue about how to be a leader. Last time she was, she quit and blamed it on the media! Buyer beware with Palin.

ObamaWillPayMyBills   November 15th, 2009 8:17 pm ET

Sort of amusing to see these macho GOP supporters scared to death of semi literate nuts speaking Arabic housed in super max prizons in Illionois. Then, to demand to send more soldiers to Afghanistan while making sure that they or their sons–Romney, Cheney et al–do not serve is all the more silly. The GOP is a bunch of chickens, scared of their own shadows. Bring these terrorists clowns to the U.S. and let's kick their ass.

Bassman. Smaller government and a bigger military, that makes sense! How much bigger military can we afford. How many countries do we need to police? How many nation building projects can we get into before we are broke? Your Bush like strategy played itself out over the past eight years. What it it get us? Number one, a world that hates us! Number two, a economy that was headed for another great depression! Number three. Two unfinished wars without a plan of exit!. Bush was harder on this country than any terrorist could have been. Now people just like you listen to the real terrorist in this country, Hannity, Colter, Limbaugh, and the not very bright Glenn Beck. These people take hope away from us, and they spread hate!

Most Rep. women can remark about this lady and still say something good and intellegent, so all of you dim witted women and men who love to say "I am a dimocrat", please we do not need anymore remarks made that make you seem as small as Biden, Clinton and the other radicals, be sincere for once in your life time and try to help our Country to choose someone that WILL BE AN ASSET TO OUR TROUBLING COUNTRY. If Palin can do it, get behind someone that would KNOW how to help solve our problems, both economical and racial, Obama has ALMOST destroyed our country and we need someone who is not afraid to bring our country back into proud nation. Sarah Palin is a joke. The people who are her supporters don't seem
to realize that one should have a working brain in order to run for any
important office. She couldn't hack being governor, how would she

people of this country to see through her...she is all glitz and no

the laughing stock of the world, that's for sure.

However, his reasoning (as well as many others) is flawed. The reason, the Mayan Calendar ends in December 2012, is because they ran out of room. You see immediately following the last date it says, "Continued on next Tablet (Page)."

What the elitists miss about Palin is that she connects with everyday folks, the same ones who get their kids off to school, struggle financially and that resent snobbery, especially in politicians.

Syed Shamsuddoha   November 15th, 2009 7:42 pm ET

My earlier prophesy about ill-educated Palin has now been fulfilled. Now I see everyone talks the same language I spoke almost a year ago. I heard that she is even getting divorced. I am not sure if it's another media chaos she is trying to make in order to get public attention. Who knows? I guess John McCain is now paying for his mistakes for putting her in his ticket although knowing McCain we all know that "he is a perfect man with no mistakes ever"!!! What goes around also comes around. In his complete imperfectness he is doing everything perfect – outcome of which is everything imperfect.

16MPG   November 15th, 2009 7:42 pm ET

Sarah Palin Rules! I would vote for her for president in a second. She's intelligent, articulate, experienced in the private sector, years of experience in government (more than Obama), principled, religious, patriotic, and CONSERVATIVE. The perfect antidote to the lying, socialist fraud we have in office at the moment.

b in FL   November 15th, 2009 7:41 pm ET

I have to say I'm growing very tired of the Palin obsession. What is it about this woman, CNN, that interests you so much? She is just a self-serving narcissist trying to line her pockets as best she can. America has really stooped to new lows. Also, it's amazing how the so called Christian right gives her a pass when her teenage daughter had a baby out of wedlock. Can you imagine if that was President Obama's daughter!!

Rob in Detroit Mi.   November 15th, 2009 7:39 pm ET

Giuliani has squandered whatever shreds of reputations he had left. Pretty much like McCain. He should just spend the rest of his life doing something meaningful, instead of desperately trying to grab something he cannot have. The guy has plenty of dough, he should just retire and disappear, spend time with his family; oh, wait, he cannot have real relationships...

Dr. Hill   November 15th, 2009 7:35 pm ET

I am constantly amazed at how sad it is that people continue to support people who are not intelligent enough to lead. Leadership requires intelligence. I want my leader to be intelligent and capable of leading to be my President.

Unfortunately, a large number of people appear to disagree. What a sad state we currently live.

What happened to intelligence being a priority when we vote for a leader? I am so happy that President Obama matriculated through one of the greatest schools our country has to offer. At least we know he earned it.

Dr. Hill

Tony   November 15th, 2009 7:35 pm ET

Only the truly hateful slime of the progressive movement will still have a harsh negative view of Palin come 2012. It's become quite clear to most of the population that the progressive media is overtly bigoted and the public will evaluate her by her views, principles, and accomplishments rather than by the jealously and hatred of the main stream media. They still can't stand that the most recognizable and iconic woman in politics is a conservative woman.

Sarah is now loaded with dough (showing how REALLY smart she is) while her critics run up credit card bills and take out home equity loans.

Sarah Palin/Liz Cheney 2012.

Obama is ONE and DONE.

Rudy doesn't endorse anyone unless there is something in it for himself. He does what is expedient and has little interest in practical or long-term solutions to social problems. Palin and Rudy: Two "Me first types" who have governed for the few, not the many.

NovShmozKaPop   November 15th, 2009 7:30 pm ET

The Republicans have an energized extreme wing represented by the teabaggers who are collectively a tail wagging the Republican dog, and Republican 'leaders' are doing their best to ingratiate themselves with what they think will be the center of power and energy in the party for the conceivable future.

The Republican coalition was always weird and inherently unstable: rich white guys in charge, with wingnuts as shock troops, and a large contingent of Middle American 'swing voters' either fired up as wanna-be rich guys or just scared through and through.

But now the inmates have taken over the asylum, and there's no center to the party. It's been a long time coming, but it has finally happened: the party that produced Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt has given birth to the likes of Sarah Palin and Joe The Plumber, and all of its bigwigs are falling over themselves to crown them as heirs apparent to the Republican throne. To anyone with a sense of irony this is absolutely delicious.

Bridget   November 15th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

Rudy is a fear monger. Sarah is a fear monger. Birds of a feather... I don't really see the news worthiness of "Rudy hearts Sarah".

ephraim   November 15th, 2009 7:29 pm ET

Moderate? Has CNN lost its compass? Giuliani was the worst and most vicious of mudslinging and muckraking hacks during the campaign. Your
nomination of him as a moderate in this artcile is simply a teaser to get people to log on to see who. Its just the same ol' Rduy junk... It also
shows CNN will pander too, and your orientation to cardinal directions of the political compass utterly flawed. He spread more lies and hate
than many other combined. He is simply covering his ass as she
gets ready to spear anyone who is not a "true" conservative. he
is also showing her how to serve up a fat pitch and hit it... Funny
though Sarah is an ideologue and will have little of it when she is
on a closed mic stage fanning the flames of fascist maniacs.

Rob in NC   November 15th, 2009 7:28 pm ET

She's great for the Democrats too. Nobody gets Democrats out to vote more than she does. If she were running in VA and NJ Deeds and Corzine would have won in a walk.

Dems are very passive by nature and it can sometimes take motivation to get to them to the voting booth. Sarah Palin=Motivation.

Bring on 2012, I am ready to support her. I am registered as a Democrat, but find both existing parties unacceptable in their current form.
Obama has shown what he is worth; it is time to bring on someone that cares more about this country than our adversaries. The majority of the Republican party is more interested in recovering from the last election, than the needed standards of government. Sarah is the solution. Vote for America, Vote Sarah !!!

Rudy is just a hack – another republican with no principles or convictions he's willing to stand up for. He's spineless. He's changed his tune on most of the issues – including trying the terrorists in federal court – in 2006 he was all for it, now that theres a Democratic president, he's singing a different tune. He's a political hack, and not a very smart one. He's the genius that put the communications center back in the WTC after the first bombing. Genius Rudy – absolutely genius!

This woman quit her only position that is similar to being president (I don't count being mayor of Wasilla). She has no ability to give a coherent response to any questions posed to her. I don't see what her qualifications are to be president of the US. Prior to McCain selecting her as his VP candidate, she had never left the country and had been to the lower 48 states 5 times. How do you run a country that you have pretty much never seen? It's really sad that people think she's a good candidate because she's uneducated like them. She can't even handle her own home(why is your 17 year old daughter pregnant) and folks want her in charge of our country.

Sarah Palin ignites the Conservatives of America to passion unseen since Reagan. The people from the right feel like they have been thrown under the bus by political parties and the main stream media and see Palin as someone who represents them. Republican strategist should not forget the power of Conservative Americans in their plans or they may not regain power in Washington D.C.

The only reason her following of vocal idiots is interested in her is because she is always on your broadcast or web site. They cling to the story because they are just as uninformed as she is. Russell, it really isn't that much of a mystery. Just look at the interests who are behind these people manipulating them and calling the shots. "W" was the perfect example and they had their way with him. They were very angry to give that up and now need another empty suit to do their bidding. Just look at where the money flowed under the Bush administration, wall street, NY bankers, oil companies and the defensive industry and guess who got to pay for all of it, YOU. So can you guess why they would like another puppet?

I guess I have to admit I'm a Sarah Palin fan too. She just helped turn a congressional seat blue (NY-23) that hadn't done so since the CIVIL WAR. The seat that is highly conservative (like NY-20 this year that also went Dem), went to a moderate Dem. It takes a whole lotta reverse-Midas touch to do that. I thank you Sarah.

Many people who were going to vote for Mccain ended up voting for Obama b/c of her. I know I will vote for her should she run in the 2012 GOP primary to help make sure she wins, so Obama can win all 50 states.

Sarah, you tell all your tea party fans to keep up the bad work by running out anybody who isn't 100% in-line with your views. Make those "liberals" and "RINOs" feel your wrath. Like Mr. Jim Demint of S.C. said, "It is better to have 30 GOP senators who believe in your message, than 60 who don't."

All of the so-called moderate Republicans want Palin in the mix but only as a "stalking horse." She will divide Huckabee's support while having no chance of being taken seriously herself. Just what the mainstream Republicans want.

BKrause   November 15th, 2009 5:59 pm ET

God! I only wish that Rudy is right. That way, the GOP is sure to lose. There was never a more socially, spiritually, historically, politically illiterate individual to define a party. Not even DeLay or Stevens could match this one.

Jeff, Huntington Beach, CA   November 15th, 2009 5:58 pm ET

Politicians are so slimy, they all give me the creeps.

Oh... almost forgot. God Bless America! (that makes everything okay in Americaland)

Seriously... what a joke we have become.

Clark   November 15th, 2009 5:56 pm ET

I'm all for Palin being the face of the GOP. Crap should be labeled as such, and she exemplifies short-sighted energy policies, heavy handed unsustainable military strategies, and a general disdain for civil rights. All monikers of the Republican party.

Geoff   November 15th, 2009 5:54 pm ET

Just because people slow down to look at the car wreck, doesn't mean that it's not a car wreck. Rudy, please understand that the ability to draw a crowd and the ability to unite a fractured political party are different. Heck, even the guitar playing cowboy in NYC in his underwear draws gawkers.

Party Purity will never bring Political Power!   November 15th, 2009 5:53 pm ET

Saint Sarah of the Silly is indeed the best thing for the republiklan party!

Palin/Bachmann 2012

kimberly   November 15th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

some where in the world many villages are missing their idiots. I think we should inform these people that we have FOUND them and they are currently running the GOP! BUT then again, as a liberal, I do enjoy watching them dig holes on a daily basis in which to try and get out of! Rudy is as much a moderate as Rush is a liberal. I know he may now SEEM moderate since the right has been hijacked by loons like palin and beck and bachmann, but be assured he is NO moderate, and his days of glory are as far behind him as the other famed Rudy of Notre Dame.

SkiDoc   November 15th, 2009 5:52 pm ET

Sarah Palin is the Dem's (especially the wimmins libbers) worst nightmare. She has managed an entire state (unlike Obama who hadn't managed a Dairy Queen) and brings a spirit that resonates with real Americans. Keep up the "not ready for office" mantra, libbers, while she just charges ahead. Go Sarah! You betcha!

Brian MacDougall   November 15th, 2009 5:48 pm ET

Rudy's never been too fussy with respect to factual matters. Kinda like Palin in that respect.

And for the record, liberals won't have to lift a finger to trash the Palin book. Team McCain and the Republican establishment will do plenty of that on their own.

djy   November 15th, 2009 5:47 pm ET

If Rudy's a moderate, I'm the man in the moon.

C. Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 15th, 2009 4:58 pm ET

The Republican party is still struggling to define who they are and that's why it's so easy to define who Palin isn't. Palin help create the demise of the party and continues to do so. The best is yet to come so get ready Republicans because it isn't going to get any better as Palin finally creates your dooms day.

katiec   November 15th, 2009 4:58 pm ET

CNN headlines Palin almost daily, at least once sometimes more.
They even go to her facebook to get quotes.
Does anyone know of any other person this happens to?
CNN, along with Fox sings her praises, drools over her and
pushes her down our throats along with other radical republicans.
They never fact check, point out their outlandish lies and exaggerations, just worship their extremists.
No wonder their ratings are in the basement.

Leah Texas   November 15th, 2009 4:57 pm ET

Palin and the Palinites don't realize that the GOP is USING PALIN to drum up excitement and donations. The GOP will never consider Palin to be a serious candidate for 2012.
As a woman I find this offensive, but as an Obama supporter I LOVE IT!

Tom G   November 15th, 2009 4:56 pm ET

American politics are becoming a lot like Reality TV, especially the survivor series. Idiots, all of them, but millions of people turn on the TV and watch in total awe. Unfortunately the idiots who watch vote for senators and representatives too. It doesn't take character to intelligence to win the minds of morons.

RJV   November 15th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Looks like the pres has everyone right where he wants them. Watching the right hand while the left one robs us blind.

wbn   November 15th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Again, Sarah Palin had more executive experience (budgets, staffs, deadline, employees, etc.) than Obama at the time of the election; moreover, Obama has shown great inability at handling these challenges. Both of these were more inexperienced than McCain or Hillary, but both Palin and Obama energized their parties. Palin is smart and shrewd, and she connects with "average" folks–folks who like to relate commonly, but who are just as smart as the condescending, empty-soul "intellectuals."

trying to be reasonable in WV   November 15th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

I'm still waiting for Palin supporters to demonstrate persuasively that she has the knowledge base to be president. Lord knows she hasn't done it. Understand this: having an adequate (read: very extensive) knowledge base has NOTHING to do with whether one is conservative or progressive (despite the fact that the intemperate on either side describe their opponents as retarded). Having an adequate knowledge base has NOTHING to do with whether one can spout a party line, or which party line is being spouted.

Do I think Palin is a moron? No. I just don't think she knows enough, and I don't think she cares about it very much. Oh, I know, this will provoke lots of rejoinders about Obama's being inexperienced, etc. Whatever, dudes . . . . You're still not contradicting my argument, and I think that when one takes political arguments OUT of the equation, Obama is a reasonably smart and knowledgeable guy, even if one thinks he a socialist or even a traitor (I don't). Even cranky Charles Krauthammer, who LOATHES Obama and his policies, thinks Obama is a smart guy..

And NO, I don't fear Palin, nor do I have any kind of personal animosity toward her, so don't call me a hater. I just wish she'd learn a lot more.

Adam (From Chicago)   November 15th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

Why does the left HATE Palin so much? I have NEVER seen/read such hatred and loathing about anyone else...even Bush.

You guys are pathetic. You want to know why Palin is so relevant? You. America is 2 countries now...a sort of bizarro mirror nation. If the left hates someone...the right loves them...and vice versa. This is the VERY least happy I have EVER seen the populace of this nation.

To the left...all Republicans are retarded swine. To the right...all lefties are socialist nanny staters. What if you both are right? Where is the legitimate third option? Where is the compromise? I know, I know, I know...the party of "no" has you all tied up with their obstructionist ways. BS. You have the majority across the board. If you could get your OWN party in order...you could pass every liberal dream policy.

But the truth is...the Democratic party is not at all united. Never mind bi-partisan...that shiites a joke with Pelosi at the helm. Majority across the board and your own party is saying the policies brought to them are too left...too socialist...too much.

kd   November 15th, 2009 4:54 pm ET

guiliani is a 'moderate'?!? THAT'S what a moderate is to the GOP now??? god help us all.

(anyone with a brain knows Palin's an idiot.)

DB   November 15th, 2009 4:53 pm ET

I said it before on CNN and I'll say it again: Sarah Palin is nothing short of a blathering lunatic and will be utterly disastrous for this nation and the planet if elected to any post in the future. She epitomizes everything that is wrong with the mindless drama-infatuated culture of this country. All media outlets should be ashamed of themselves for allowing her this much airtime, but much like the idiocy of Jon and Kate – bull sells commercials and lines shareholders pockets.

What is worse than this psychopath is her idiotic drones of conservatives that consistently buy her bull. The void of critical thinking and judgment of this mass of individuals represents a threat to the fabric of our democracy and is far greater than any so called terrorist threat.

harold   November 15th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Palin has found the pot of Gold also.. Good for who.. did you say..Rudy?... Republicans are always good for themselves.. after opposing Medicare in 1965 and Social Security back in 1935.. they felt it was too much government.. so much so they called it socialist.. And will abandon the programs if they get a chance to privatize all of it ........ So good for who Rudy?

ICARE   November 15th, 2009 4:52 pm ET

Palin is going to be the reason why Obama gets another FOUR more yeas in the white house.

I hope Huckabee gets nominated, otherwise, it'll be Obie for 4 more years.

Three more years from now, Obama would have learned the ropes and sound 10000 times smarter than Palin.

Dan   November 15th, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Rick from Portland   November 15th, 2009 4:47 pm ET

Palin is great for the GOP because the only people left in the GOP (only about 20% of the American people are willing to call themselves Republican anymore) are people who are narrow minded, fear mongering bigots like her. The Tea Baggers are all the looneys who don't vote anyway, and are even crazier than those calling themselves Republicans (their rallies look like the line at the Wal-Mart pharmacy). There isn't ONE "Leader" of either the Tea Baggers or the Republicans I would ever consider voting for as President. Obama will win re-election in a walk, cuz the opposition may be vocal, but they just don't have the numbers. Let the south and the plains go red, in fact let the secede for all I care, Obama will win the Electoral vote and the popular vote, just like last time. So keep on hating, it won't make any difference unless someone can come up with a real alternative to this President, and so far there is NONE!

NY Republicans have learned what happens when you take on the fringe of the party. It's a shame that the right has hijacked what used to be a viable alternative to voting Democratic.

BigdaddyJ   November 15th, 2009 4:45 pm ET

Wow, there goes any respect I had left for Rudy Giuliani...

Emma   November 15th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

It makes me wonder whether Rudy is saying what a politician should say or whether he has a fantasy about her being Pres. and naming him into a prominent position?

Actually, if you analyze what he said, it does not translate to "Palin is qualified to be President." Rudy himself appears to have a following like Palin – some think he is terrific and some do not want to have America in his hands.

Oh Yes, Sarah Palin is great for the Democratic Party.

Commanda Andy   November 15th, 2009 4:43 pm ET

Man – what else could Rudy say? If he trashed her, he'd have to deal with Rush and the rest of the fringe who seem to be in de facto control of the party right now.

I live in Canada by the way.

B. Bear   November 15th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

The latest chapter of Palinmania is a media driven national stampede gloriying anit-intellectualism, intentional misstatements of fact, demagoguery, hkypocrisy, and witless winking. Wake me up when she starts looking her age and the media-monster decides it time to devour her. What a great country!

Vic of New York   November 15th, 2009 4:42 pm ET

What's he spewing from his mouth now? Oh yeah, that "we" need to take a hard look at how Obama is handling "Terrorism."

I feel like campaigning for Palin in an effort to get her the nomination. It would be such a joy to watch her in a debate with an articulate thinking person, which difficult to find among the current republican party.
Just like the communist dictatorships, the republican party has purged all the intellectuals from the party. The real thinking conservatives are shaking their heads in embarrassment at what has happend to the GOP.

ARE WE TO TRUST RUDY's JUDGEMENT ON CHARACTER?

Isn't Rudy the same guy that appointed his former bodyguard & chauffeur Bernie Kerik to be New York's top cop? And once Bernie became New York's Commissioner, Rudy strongly recommended Bernie to be the nation's first Secretary of DHS (Dept. of Homeland Security). Only to find out that Rudy's best pal had a ton of skeletons in his closet. So much so that even Rove and Cheney had to reject Bush’s selection for Bernie to be the first DHS head.

I was impressed by Palin at first, but then I realized she is disappointing. She doesn't seem to be informed. I am no genius, but even if you read newspapers like the Washington Post you should be able to learn something. I'd look to Gary Johnson for 2012. At least the coverage CNN gives her is now allowing her to be seen and heard which gives her an avenue of countering the hatred towards her from the "tolerant" left.

lori tomlin   November 15th, 2009 4:28 pm ET

If Sara Palin is the best and brigthtest of the female candidates the republican party has to offer America they are in big trouble!

The woman is unqualified to teach a high school history class, and some embrace her qualifications to run this country. Frightening.

normajean   November 15th, 2009 4:26 pm ET

Put any Hollywood actress on stage and she could do exactly what Sarah Palin does. She could give a great pre-prepared speech, look terrific and be so full of clever ,personality filled conversation that all you Republicans would be entranced. But seriously, would you then assume, she'd make a good president? Particularly if she couldn't even answer a couple of questions about the government?. In our own little world out here, we the audience had no trouble with Courics questions or Gibsons either. and we don't think we're pres. material. She couldn't even handle her term in Alaska. Time for you to do some serious thinking, reading and listening.SERIOUSLY.

Joan   November 15th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Of course he is going to throw his hat in the ring again. That would be great for the Democrats. All of this attention on Sarah Palin helps the Democrats too because it reminds everyone of her disastrous campaign last year and of her polarizing effect on the right wing element of her party. It is too bad that Mr. Guiliani doesn't have more confidence in the judicial and law enforcement agencies of New York since he doesn't think they can handle the trials of the five Gitmo detainees. New Yorkers should be relieved they are finally going to be tried and convicted after all these years. Justice needs to be served.

Really, Rudy? She was able to put a blue candidate into a solid red district in your very own state, in a year where Republicans elsewhere were doing quite well.

Seattle   November 15th, 2009 4:08 pm ET

The party must really be hurting if Rudy thinks Sarah Palin is "great" for the republican party. I wonder what he thinks is bad for the party.

Russell   November 15th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Oh, boy, that's scary. The Republican party for reasons unknown to me keeps falling for these mental lightweights. W was a prime example and now they fall for Palin, who has no credentials for being President. McCain made a complete boneheaded move by choosing her and now, just because of a poor decision on his part, she thinks she can be President. Go home to Alaska, Sarah, and stay there. W was a big enough disaster. You'd easily surpass him and America would suffer greatly for it. As for the Republicans . . . WAKE UP . . . you do have women who have a brain and who can qualify and you have men with a brain, too. Stay away from the brainless candidates like Palin.

Katie   November 15th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

I don't see how she can be good for the Republican party. The Republicans I know – including me- think she's a joke. She may have energized an audience, but many rational Republicans are looking for a real leader who can take this country forward. I'm one of those who would have happily voted for McCain, until he chose his running mate. This woman has done little but act like the pitbull she proudly claims she is – she's vicious, she's divisive, and above all, she's stupid. Like a dog bred for nothing but fighting, she's stubborn – once she pounces on something, she won't let it go. She doesn't let little things like hypocrisy, inconsistency, or facts get in her way. She's a poor excuse for a leader, and I don't think she's much of a mother, either, especially when she parades her kids on stage, exposing them to slurs and ridicule, and she keeps on saying other people want her baby killed. She is the ONLY person I have heard say such a terrible thing, and she has said so many times. What kind of mother does that? She has also said she thought about abortion herself and made the big choice not to do it. We're supposed to applaud this?? Sarah Palin does not deserve one tenth of the attention she is getting.

Tired of the Nonsense   November 15th, 2009 4:04 pm ET

I'm still waiting for Sarah to explain how today's Insurance heads can deny, suspend, and cancel coverage of any treatment at any time especially if the person is too old, too sick or treatment is too expensive or isn't 'mainstream' enough but she doesn't consider them 'Death Panels' She good for the GOP alright, she continues to show the lows the republicans will stoop to get their way and win win WIN at all costs.

Shouldn't Guliani be down in Florida campaigning for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination?? The guy is such a brilliant political strategist whose opinion really matters!! Good ols "noun, verb 911.

Bob of Lompoc   November 15th, 2009 4:02 pm ET

And of course Mayor G, we trust YOUR judgement of the character of Palin, you being an expert on human behavior. You, the person who has been married three times, once to your cousin (had you been hanging around some Southern U. S. mountain folk at that time ?), lived with your "girl" friend, while your 2nd wife and children lived on the other side of the wall, and you hired that bald headed creep Security guy who followed his wizzer around, and now has one foot jail. Please Mayor G., enlighten us more !

Perusing-through   November 15th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

WOW! HOW PATHETIC!

Do you people understand what is happening here?

The big bad Rudy Giuliani, former New York mob prosecutor and mayor is racing to kiss Sarah Palin's @__! Why? Because Guiliani know that he is a gay supporting pro-abortionist, and in Sarah Palin's Republican Party moderates like Guiliani are targeted for political extinction.

Josh   November 15th, 2009 4:00 pm ET

As a former Republican and fiscal conservative, I find it to be disheartening to see where the Republican Party has gone. Sarah Palin is NOT good for the Republican Party, or fiscal conservatism as a whole because she divides us in half due to her nutjob social stances. She doesn't even have the intellect to have thought through her own social conservative views, she merely parrots what she's heard other people say. Her lack of understanding of her own adopted viewpoints leads to contradictory statements and untenable stances. She basically panders and says whatever she thinks the Limbots/Hannidiots etc. want to hear.

I am a scientist, and the current Republican leadership has forced me out by embracing candidate after candidate that is hostile to science and ignorant about ecological issues (environmental CONSERVATION ought to be a conservative view, but they are too ignorant these days to comprehend it). All signs point to the Republican Party moving to the far right, and it's a real shame because this country needs a good, viable, moderate opposition party.

I dont the words great and Sarah Palin should be anywhere next to eachother!

Gary   November 15th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

“I think Sarah Palin is great for the Republican Party,”

She's great for the Democratic Party also.
As long as she's out there reminding Americans how ignorant Republicans are. They don't stand a chance, Thank God.
Who cares what " I'm a HasBeen" Guilianni has to say anyway.
The man is the most negative " Nobody " out there.

Oommen K   November 15th, 2009 3:58 pm ET

Palin is an entertainer for sure. If negative attention is better than no attention at all, she should be considered as a great asset of the Republican party.

D. Tree   November 15th, 2009 3:57 pm ET

yeah, right – just like Rudy thought he could be elected president.

GI Joe   November 15th, 2009 3:52 pm ET

She sure is

She spreads the hate and lies and lets the men keep their hands clean – so to speak.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

victim of republican greed   November 15th, 2009 3:50 pm ET

We all think Sarah is great for the republican party.

david c.   November 15th, 2009 3:45 pm ET

palin energizes the worst in humanity

Charlotte   November 15th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

That's because people mistakenly msidentify her as Tina Fay. Rudy, you must be jockeying for some sort of handout post if the rabid right ever gets back into power. Pathetic, really.
