(CNN) – A prominent, socially moderate Republican said Sunday that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has achieved iconic status with the Republican Party’s conservative base, is an asset to the GOP.
“I think Sarah Palin is great for the Republican Party,” former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said in an interview that aired on CNN’s State of the Union.
Giuliani said Palin generates a lot of enthusiasm for the party which has struggled to define itself and identify its leading voices after the McCain-Palin ticket lost its White House bid a year ago.
“She gets a tremendous reception even here in Democratic New York,” Giuliani, who hosted Palin at a New York Yankees game, told CNN’s John King.
“We’re very far away from a 2012 election,” Giuliani added, “Right now, I like figures who are creating interest in the Republican Party.
“Given the decisions that the Obama administration is making, particularly on this area of terrorism which concerns me probably more than any other, we’re going to need some pretty strong alternatives in 2012. I don’t know if it’ll be Sarah Palin or someone else. But right now it’s [about] developing interest in a Republican Party and we need a two-party system and we need a healthy one.”
Giuliani said he had not made any decision yet about whether he will seek the White House again in 2012 or run for New York governor. Asked when he had to make that decision, Giuliani told King “Not today, not this morning.”

I was impressed by Palin at first, but then I realized she is disappointing. She doesn't seem to be informed. I am no genius, but even if you read newspapers like the Washington Post you should be able to learn something. I'd look to Gary Johnson for 2012. He may be lacking foreign policy wise, but is someone who could draw broad support.
That's right! She's great for the elephant. There's going to be division and bitterness toward her styles of leadership.
She's awesome but I lost faith in her when she had a pregnant daughter and when she didnt have a clue and talked to the French comedian, posing to be the Prez of France.

ARE WE TO TRUST RUDY's JUDGEMENT ON CHARACTER?
Isn't Rudy the same guy that appointed his former bodyguard & chauffeur Bernie Kerik to be New York's top cop? And once Bernie became New York's Commissioner, Rudy strongly recommended Bernie to be the nation's first Secretary of DHS (Dept. of Homeland Security). Only to find out that Rudy's best pal had a ton of skeletons in his closet. So much so that even Rove and Cheney had to reject Bush’s selection for Bernie to be the first DHS head.
Obama isn't just bringing the murdering terrorists to NYC for OJ like Circus trials he wants to bring the rest of the murdering terrorists from Gitmo to a new Gitmo in Illinois. The American people don't want the murdering terrorist enjoing life in NYC and the heartland of our country. This insanity needs to be stopped. Call your Congressman and Senators.
Labeling Giuliani a "moderate" is an oversimplification of the man, who, in my opinion, is downright slimy.

Rudy is just trying to keep the pot stirred up to confuse the republicans, which is pretty easy to do.
I feel like campaigning for Palin in an effort to get her the nomination. It would be such a joy to watch her in a debate with an articulate thinking person, which difficult to find among the current republican party.
Just like the communist dictatorships, the republican party has purged all the intellectuals from the party. The real thinking conservatives are shaking their heads in embarrassment at what has happend to the GOP.

Rudy must not be paying attention. In the one race she involved herself in recently the republican LOST, and in the two she was kept away from, the moderate republican WON. How, exactly is she GOOD for the republican party?
We all know Giuliani will pander to anyone if it'll add fans to his repertoire. Palin's conservative base is just another group of people he wants to vote for him in the next election.

It makes me wonder whether Rudy is saying what a politician should say or whether he has a fantasy about her being Pres. and naming him into a prominent position?
Actually, if you analyze what he said, it does not translate to "Palin is qualified to be President." Rudy himself appears to have a following like Palin – some think he is terrific and some do not want to have America in his hands.
