Clinton would 'look forward' to meeting with Palin.
Clinton would 'look forward' to meeting with Palin.

(CNN) - While their fictional personas have teamed up on Saturday Night Live, Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton have actually never met.

But the secretary of state said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press she'd "look forward" to talking politics with Palin over coffee sometime soon.

Clinton was responding to an excerpt in Palin's forthcoming memoir in which the Alaska governor praises the then senator Clinton's 2008 presidential primary campaign effort.

"Should Secretary Clinton and I ever sit down over a cup of coffee, I know that we will fundamentally disagree on many issues," Palin writes in the new book called "Going Rogue: An American Life. "But my hat is off to her hard work on the 2008 campaign trail. A lot of her supporters think she proved what Margaret Thatcher proclaimed. 'If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman.'"

Now this would be a have to see prime time event.

"But the secretary of state said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press she'd "look forward" to talking politics with Palin over coffee sometime soon."

I always knew Hillary had a sense of humor. She's a smart Lady too.

Abe   November 16th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

This will be a life time meeting if it ever happens. I am pretty sure it will be civil and an eye opener for Palin. it will definitely be a discussion between a seasoned politician and a new comer. So my advice to Palin is to intently listen and gain experience in worldly / internal politics. It absolutely gracious of the secretary of state to be open to the offer. I can not wait to see it if it happens.

george from alaska   November 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

don't worry hillary, palin needs to go to a clown tailor and get the suit that fits her best...i hear barnum & baily's circus is hiring. she is such a wonderful clown! since alaska state employees call her "big sarah" for her gigantically swelled head full of childish egocentrism, she'll probably need an extra large nose. be careful and don't shop at pinnochio's wood shop...she won't do well with a pinnochio nose...unless she is proud of her lies!

demmie   November 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

again, to all those who choose to bash Palin – what have YOU achieved? She's been a mayor, a governor, and not has a top selling book – what have YOU done?

mjm   November 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

I love how the liberals on this site constantly over exaggerate the intelligence of Democrats.

I heard when Obama asked Clinton to be on his staff, she jump to conclusions….He never said “State”.

Florence   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

It never works Sarah. In order for someone to acquire knowledge, not only they need to be educated they also need to be intelligent. Mrs. Clinton’s intellect will not rub on you if you sit with her.

James Michael Roberson   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

I wonder who would pick up the check?

Ken Williams   November 16th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

She shouldn't meet with Hillary because Hillary refused to attend any event Palin was at during the campaign. Hillary is a hypocrite and a sellout.

Silence Dogoode   November 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

I would think they would have a lot to talk about.

Sarah could explain what a REAL husband is like.
Hillary could explain to Sarah whata marriage for political gain is like

Sarah could explain the Consitution to Hillary (starting with the 2nd ammedment)
Hillary could explain socialism to Sarah

Sarah could explain to Hillary about being a female
Hillary could explain to Sarah about Whitewater, Travelgate, Foster Gate....

Jerry   November 16th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

Glad to see the Turner station still thinks the election is going on, must be afraid to cover what BHO is actually doing, Right boys and girls......

geecee   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

Just the thought of Hillary Clinton attempting to carry on any kind of meaningful conversation with that dimwit Palin is enough to make me regurgitate my lunch. It would be so hilarious that the Katie Couric interview would seem intellectually stimulating at a minimum!!

It is so edifying to have brains back in the White House, Obama and Clinton, both. We Democrats are truly fortunate to have such talent to call upon in these dire times.

vette gal   November 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

Okay CNN, what's with the ticker being full of almost nothing but Palin? She is now in the status of entertainer; she is not relevant to politics and I, for one, am extremely tired of hearing about her. Are you now becoming FAUX News? Is it all about ratings? Please spare me any more stories on this poor excuse for a woman.

Jake   November 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

At some point Pallin's got to understand that if she ran for president she has comperehend that reality that you can't win an election simply with the support of a small majority from the minority party. And we all know now that it's hard to win an election without outside party voters especially indpenedents. Unfortunately, for her, independents don't particularly like folks coming to them with a Bible in one hand and a gun in the other....that would be a contradiction to most people even if conservatives don't perceive it as one.

Eric   November 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

I think Hilary would have coffee with Palin for nothing more than just shear amusement. I bet even Hilary is baffled by how dingy Palin is and how she even has gotten this far in life.

ChristianValues   November 16th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

coffee is good enough... we don;t need a dinner. It's a waste of time with Clinton.

Hillary can't even control her husband – how can she control China OR Iran OR Russia etc

Zach K   November 16th, 2009 1:19 pm ET

My Prediction is Sarah Palin runs out Bawling and Clinton Smiling. :D

A dialogue between Hillary and sassy Sarah would be like the meeting of strong intelligence of a leader vs. pastry flake fluff, diligent hard work vs. ADD media manipulation, deep authenticity vs. good face makeup, sincerity of mission vs. publicity stunter. Guess who is who? Duh – Hillary is the first: strong intelligence, diligent hard work, deep authenticity, sincerity of mission. Sarah would be the latter: flaky fluff, good face makeup, ADD media manipulator, publicity stunter.
Hillary would be gracing Sarah's presence with a wise woman talking to a young kitty. Does anyone think Sarah would actually listen? She is on a roll of media manipulation and money making. That's her main goal in life.

Sgt. USMC   November 16th, 2009 1:05 pm ET

palin should bring pen and paper so she can take notes on how to be a positive female role model to young women. she may learn something.

S M R   November 16th, 2009 1:04 pm ET

A debate between Hillary and Sarah would END THIS MADNESS. It's like comparing a Golden Rod to a stick in the mud. LOL

C.   November 16th, 2009 1:02 pm ET

I have heard nothing but Sara Palin stories all weekend on CNN. I am so sick of hearing about her. Hillary would tear her apart if they ever met for coffee. CNN please stop giving this woman press or I am going to switch news.

Chris - Denver   November 16th, 2009 1:00 pm ET

The Secretary of State certainly has more important things to do than to sit down and talk with an extremist dim-bulb who gets a lot of unwarranted attention.

Jamie from Riverside   November 16th, 2009 12:57 pm ET

If Hillary would ever sit down with Sarah Palin for coffee there's probably a host of questions i'd love for Hillary to ask her but first i'd want her to throw a cup of hot coffee in Sarah's face.

tommygunn   November 16th, 2009 12:51 pm ET

PLEASE.....Secretary Clinton was only responding to the NEWS MEDIA question....this reminds me of a bunch of kids trying to start a fight with two people based on their different views.

Sarah Palen isn't on Secretary Clinton RADAR and the conversation wouldn't have any substance based on Sarah's background on AMERICAN government.

Sarah will remain in the bubble of media she can have in her favor, oppose to open media for scruntiny....and can you blame her...she is not ready for that type of "prime time"....

But on the otherhand, Secretary Clinton live for those moments and is a very poised person in any media cycle....

MSNBC scored fair media hits for asking the question and getting a response from Secretary Clinton.

I bet you FOX will not even attempt to score any fair media hits from asking the same question to Sarah.....hmmmm....

Sean   November 16th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

I would love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation...

Bob P.   November 16th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

Believe it or not, I have never Voted for A President even though I am 73 years old. If Palin runs for President I Will VOTE for her.

Ann   November 16th, 2009 12:50 pm ET

Hillary is a real lady so of course she will meet with Palin. I pray to God that Hillary will run and win the presidency in 2012. Its time for something good to happen to the US. And 2008 was not a lucky year.

wait a minute   November 16th, 2009 12:49 pm ET

I think Secretary Clinton could do much better than how she had handled Israeli -Palestinian peace talks and North Korea. I think this job is over her capability and she forgets what her job is sometimes. But she is not a trained diplomat to begin with so we should not give too much hope for results. Somehow we should control damage. Personally, I think President Obama should replace her with a professional diplomat. Governor Richardson would have been a much better choice for SOS.

Aunt Bea and Opie   November 16th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Both of these women are wooden headed puppets, but Sarah is a wooderpeckers dream come true.hahaha.

Lynne   November 16th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

As usual CNN gives only part of the story. Sec Clinton was asked if she would consider sitting down for coffee with Palin as a result of Palin saying she would like to. Let's face it Clinton was just being polite.

lyn   November 16th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

CNN stop pushing Palin down our throats in your daily news, it seem that you have nothing else to report ,what about our President we want to know more of his trip and how we can better America for us who is struggling, who is without jobs, Our Presdent is trying so hard to make our country economy working again and create jobs for us.In your daily news it's all about Palin the looser who only preaches hate and lies, that is not news, or is it all about ratings, if that so you are becoming another Fox News and your ratings will go down in the basement. CNN you are going to loose a lot of your viewers, if you are following Fox News.

Fan of Common Sense   November 16th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Bush's Favorite Things: Blanky, Bikey & Nappy   November 16th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

Palin doesn't have the class or grace to be in Hillary's presence. And furthermore, Sarah needs to quit using Hillary's name to advance her own misguided causes and warped beliefs.

Michael   November 16th, 2009 12:39 pm ET

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING !!! Who is trying to upstage whom?

Keepin It Real   November 16th, 2009 12:37 pm ET

I don't think Hillary want to lower her standards to speak the language of a third grader. Sara Palin just doesn't have it.

Dave   November 16th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

I imagine having coffee with Sarah Palin would be a lot like having coffee with Elmo the Muppet. It'd be very loud, and you'd have to patiently explain a lot of simple concepts that your companion didn't understand, like "no, we don't EAT the napkins" and "the world is round and it's much more than 6000 years old." Still, it'd be good practice for Hillary... being Secretary of State, she has to deal with lots of strange-accented, theocratic lunatics who are hostile to American progress, so coffee with Palin would be par for the course.

30 Year Veteran   November 16th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

It will certainly be a pleasure in 2012 when these two square off for the Presidency and the moron will be gone. No one in his right mind will try and put the unpatriotic moron back in office. I am so tired of him already embarassing America every where he goes. Then the icing on the cake was when he, two Generals and two Senators stood on stage while the National Anthem was played for the memorial for the fallen troops in Ft. Hood was played. The Generals and the two Senators saluting while Erkel stood with his hate America facial and his two arms hanging limply like a gorilla at his sides. Now he is insulting the Japanease.

beth   November 16th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

Oh, there are so many people who would love to see Sarah try to have an intelligent conversation with Hillary.

OldUncleTom   November 16th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

I think before Sarah sits down with Hillary, she should warm up with the ladies on The View.

If she survives that, THEN maybe a real politician.

Most of the focus on these Political Tickers are given to the Alaskan Air Head.
Very curious. Not very professional.

Phil - IN   November 16th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

So, let's get this straight:

When talking with HRC, she can respectfully disagree over coffee.

When talking with – or more commonly about – Obama, he's got terrorist sympathies, is intentionally running this country into the ground, is a closet socialist, is setting up death panels, blah blah blah.

Unless I missed something, HRC is still the Sec. of State under the Obama administration and holds many of the same core positions on issues. She also supports universal health care which includes what Palin has called 'death panels.'

Yet, Palin can have coffee with HRC and can only smack talk Obama.

Let's call it what it is: Reverse sexism. As a guy, I'm probably even sexist for using such candor. I may not be able to see Russia from my house, but I can see this double standard from thousands of miles away!

Secretary Clinton is far above Sarah Palin in every aspect that the only thing that sit down will result in some great laughs for Hillary. I think Secretary Cilton has been working very hard and can use a few good belly-aching laughs, but she would be too much of a lady to let us know how ignorant and humorous she found Palin.

I would presume such meeting will be for tutoring purpose. I wonder why Hilary would want to meet proven idiot?Perhaps to tell her stay from my husband as the former Prez has an attraction for women of low intellect such as Palin.

Gary   November 16th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

Both were treated unfairly by the media during the last campaign. I hope that they become friends.

Pee Wee   November 16th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

Wow! CNN is on a huge roll today, only 5 Palin stories. Only 60% more coverage than you're giving the Prez on historic tour to Asia.

Is she that relevant? If she warrants this MUCH coverage 3 years prior to the next election (which she probably won't even participate in) what's that say about Barry?

John McCain   November 16th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

'If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman.'"

And yet,....

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE the gullibility and stupidity of the majority of Americans, who are suckers for a wink and a pretty smile.

Forget the Republican Party. If Palin were the nominee in 2012, it would be catastrophic for the entire planet. Plans to combat global warming would be scrapped, the extinction of many species would be accelerated due to uregulated hunting, research for alternate energy sources would lose funding, illegal abortions would become rampant due to the reversal of Roe vs Wade, race relations would be set back 165 years, biblical fundamentalism would replace the sciences of paleontology, physical anthropology, and zoology, and homosexuality would become a federal offense punishable by stoning.

We would reap what we have sowed.

nv   November 16th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

NO! NO! NO!
Pleeeeze do not give Palin the publicity and credibility-by-association that would come with meeting anyone actually important. She is a virus - treat her like one.

Doyle Wiley, MI   November 16th, 2009 12:01 pm ET

So Palin wrote:
"But my hat is off to her hard work on the 2008 campaign trail. A lot of her supporters think she proved what Margaret Thatcher proclaimed. 'If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman.'"

The above statements would make sense of Clinton had won. Maybe Palin should have named her book "Lost in the space between my ears"

Might work out better for our country if these two women ran together,,,,,one Republican and one Democrat. Of course I would want to see Sarah Palin as the President and Hillary Clinton as the Vice President. No doubt these two woman could certainly do a much better job than the President and Vice President we now have.

Hillary Clinton is one of the strongest, smartest and most accomplished women in the history of American politics.

Sarah Palin is not strong (quitter) not smart (Katie Couric interview) and has ZERO accomplishments (other than setting women in politics back about 60 years)

So what on Earth could they possibly have to talk about – what that Hillary said would Sarah even be able to understand?

Lisa   November 16th, 2009 11:46 am ET

Hillary Clinton is a credible, successful, and reliable politician. She has important buisiness to address, and Palin is NOT important~

The contrast between the two is remarkable. One is highly intelligent, uses language very effectively and is grounded in principles of government. The other, not so much.

Otto   November 16th, 2009 11:43 am ET

This will be an event I'd love to see and I hope they will discuss at length, the major issues of our time. Taking into consideration the so called gotcha Sarah had on SNL, she has come a long way and have done more travel than she had all her life.

This makes me wonder if Sarah will try to give Hillary pointers on how to be a deplomat and ho she should deal with foreign leaders. A fun show by any other name will be an understatement.

Malcolm   November 16th, 2009 11:42 am ET

James   November 16th, 2009 11:40 am ET

Dominican mama 4 Obama   November 16th, 2009 11:39 am ET

It would be great Hill, if you were the one to sit down with this pretender to the throne and gave her a dose of reality. No one will take off the kid gloves when they encounter this eejit face to face. I don't know if they feel sorry for her, or if they're afraid that due to her obvious inability to speak intelligently on ANY current event subject they're afraid of coming across as a schoolyard bully.

Apparently, the ex-Governor feels that Mrs. Clinnton worked hard during the 2008 campaign but her hard work as Secretary of State deserves no recognition. Equally apparent is Mrs. Palin's inability to see an opportunity to sit down with our current Secretary of State to offer suggestions and opinions on our current policies in the Middle East, China, and on domestic issues. I should think that if she was interested in being President she would act like one and help formulate policy. I guess that is telling of her leadership potential. Well, maybe she feels that hawking her book and going on TV shows is more important. She should take lessons from her fellow Republican party members who are meeting with Mrs. Clinton.

Conti_59   November 16th, 2009 11:18 am ET

Sec'y of State Hillary Clinton sitting down to talk with Sarah Palin is akin to a seasoned parent (Clinton) talking to a retentive preteen (Palin). Would love to be proven wrong on this one.

Tommy   November 16th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Is she serious? Now that's a conversation I don't see going anywhere. Imagine a conversation between Mohatmas Ghandi and Creflo Dollar on religion...

ThinkAgain   November 16th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Secretary Clinton is a class act – and if she and Palin ever had a debate over real issues that demanded a thorough and nuanced understanding – she'd eat Palin for lunch!

katiec   November 16th, 2009 11:16 am ET

Sure wish the "talking politics" would be televised. Hilliary would mop the floor with the barbie dolls ridiculous, unintelligent, radical religious rights stances.
Actully, Hillary, you have much more important accomplishments to undertake than give this radical attention she does not deserve.

HarryB   November 16th, 2009 11:15 am ET

Why would she do this? Hilary is a Government Official who has pleny of work on her plate, due to the misssteps of the previous administration, and a few due to the current administration. Ms. Palin, on the other hand, is a self promoting huckster who would come out of the meeting a "winner" according to her delusional fans, if she only avoids wetting herself.

Melissa   November 16th, 2009 11:15 am ET

That meeting should be televised. Clinton is a shrewd intelligent woman, she'd talk circles around failin Palin and embarrass the crap out of her just because Clinton is actually able to have a real conversation.

Susan   November 16th, 2009 11:11 am ET

Oh, I'd love to see a Clinton/Palin meeting. Clinton would make toast out of the "wanna-be".

Always a Republican   November 16th, 2009 11:11 am ET

I look forward for Clinton to sit down. Why should Sarah Palin stoop so low as to meet with Hillary? What has Hillary done to deserve an interview with Sarah Palin?

republicans hate america   November 16th, 2009 11:11 am ET

as if Hillary needs your hat tipping. she is light years ahead of you dont you cant sit in the same state as her.

demmie   November 16th, 2009 11:09 am ET

i like Hillary and I think she'd find some common ground wtih fmr Gov. Palin

independent party member   November 16th, 2009 11:08 am ET

I'd love to see this. I'm sure they'll have a very similar story about how badly they were treated by the biased and sexist media AND their own political party. Before any dem or rep party...they are women and mothers first.

Florida Dude   November 16th, 2009 11:08 am ET

I don't see the reason to meet with Palin. She will only use you as a propaganda tool. She has nothing of substance to add to the task of good government.

ashlee   November 16th, 2009 11:07 am ET

Hilary, please don't do it, this woman is a vile human being. She will lie about the meeting with you, just to make herself look good.

She has no regard for anyone but herself, not even her children. I still can not believe McCain choose this wrench and people really voted for her. Women, wake up to this phoney!

Sharon   November 16th, 2009 11:05 am ET

Good for Hilary Clinton. She can take care of herself quite well. Unfortunately if coffee meeting does occur Sarah Palin will try to badmouth Hilary. This is just how Sarah Palin has done her whole political life in Alaska and Nationally. Sarah Palin loves to lie I have discovered by intense researching of her many comments locally and nationally. Sarah feels he is "right" even when she is found to have lied. Alaska government is so corrupt. And Sarah is no different. Alaska laws and governor appointed ethics board enable all government coverups. No coincidence that so many lawmakers have been indicted by FBI there. And it wasn't Sarah who is tried to clean government up. Was the FBI. Just from a registered Republican who is very alarmed Sarah seems to get such national support with out people actually checking facts.

Mike Mundy, Houston, TX   November 16th, 2009 11:05 am ET

I would watch that. Both women are very admirable. I just wish Hillary Clinton would have spoken up and out at the sexist treatment, Sarah Palin received on the campaign and even today.

The Film Professor   November 16th, 2009 11:05 am ET

Sarah Palin is not even remotely in the same league as Secretary Clinton.

I guess they could talk about cookies, or maybe the view of Russia from Palin's front porch.

Really?   November 16th, 2009 11:02 am ET

Obama has the patience and mercy to sit down and talk with Palin....Clinton on the other hand, does not. I really don't think Clinton would waste her time with Palin. Clinton said she would sit down with her because it was the nice thing to say.

George Guadiane - Austerlitz, NY   November 16th, 2009 11:02 am ET

I'm sad with myself to think this way, but I have to wonder who TOLD Ms Palin about the Thatcher quote, I have a hard time imagining that she actually read it, and/or that if she DID read it, that it stuck.

I have to say, it was a well formed thought and well written. I hope the two of them do get to sit down and talk, and I hope that Ambassador Clinton is able to see what so many of us have not... A brain.
THEN, I hop Amb. Clinton shares her experience with us and lets the media know how she did it, so that they too can see her as an actual intellectual being.

jajja   November 16th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Palin and Hillary are two tough and smart women. I would love to have coffee with both of them. Hope to see a woman president or vice president one day soon despite the sexist media out there always trying to minimize these strong women. And yes, i'm talking about you CNN.........mirroring MSNB to become the next female basher using Palin as the target is not exactly journalism at its best!!! How about doing some stories on her term as governor and all that she accomplished? oh but that's no fun..right? what does experience has anything to do with running a state or a country? how naive i am!!!!

Carnell From The Motor City!   November 16th, 2009 11:01 am ET

I'd Enjoy It For The Entertainment Value, Honestly If I Ever Met Former Alaskan Governer Sarah Palin For Coffee. I'd Be Too Busy Spitting It Out Laughing At Her, This Woman Is A Joke. The Only Reasons I Would Buy Her Book Going Rogue Is To Prop Up My Leaning Coffee Table, Use It As An Armrest, Or Let My Dog Chew Out The Pages.

Big Daddy   November 16th, 2009 11:01 am ET

Dear Mrs.Clinton,
Please don't lower yourself to her..She has no clue of what is going on in todays world ! You would be better off speaking to a group of

Too bad Hillary didn't win.

sifto77   November 16th, 2009 10:57 am ET

I respect Hilary for changing her tune–however, she should have at least spoken up for Palin against the diabolical smears when they were happening from other liberal women such as Sally Quinn and other liberal female politicians and celebrities. As I recall, SP said many kind things about Hillary when she started out. Too little, too late.

Democrat No More   November 16th, 2009 10:57 am ET

Viewed as Pants Suits and Skirts, they have this in common. They both saw tremendous problems with Bill Ayres having a role in Obama's political launch and writing his books. They both saw
Rev. Wright having a negative impact on Obama. They both support the military. Of course there are many policy differences, but these are a few things they do agree on.

Hawaii Gal   November 16th, 2009 10:56 am ET

Sarah Palin will NEVER even be in the same arean with Hillary. Hillary has a brain, works hard, and has many achievements under her belt. Palin has none of these attributes.

Mark Wilson   November 16th, 2009 10:55 am ET

If you want a governor who will serve 2.5 years of a 4-year term, vote for Sarah Palin.

Lee in Raleigh   November 16th, 2009 10:53 am ET

Hilary Clinton is highly educated, very intelligent and an experienced and respected politician. Sarah Palin is an under-educated, not too bright, soap-opera personality with little knowledge outside of Alaska. Clinton is a roll-model as to what women can accomplish while Palin is an embarssment.

AXH   November 16th, 2009 10:52 am ET

Hillary Rodham Clinton has done a great job of moving on from the presidential campaign and being an effective part of President Obama's team.

I wish I could say the same thing about many of her endlessly bitter supporters.

Eric   November 16th, 2009 10:50 am ET

HA! Hillary would run circles around Sarah. I'm laughing so hard thinking about it that tears are running down me face!

Al-NY,NY   November 16th, 2009 10:48 am ET

In a debate, Hillary would shred the know-nothing from Wassila. Barbie's (and the McCain camp's) idea that this intellectual lightweight would siphon off disgrunteled HRC voters from Obama is a much a joke as Palin's supposed "honestly/integrity"

GOP = 21st century dodo   November 16th, 2009 10:47 am ET

Whether you like her or not, Hillary Clinton is a woman of towering intellect who has amassed a long list of accomplishments throughout her life.

Sarah Palin is not.

Ken-Seattle   November 16th, 2009 10:46 am ET

Sarah, Do you really know who Margaret Thatcher is? How much of this book dialogue did your "Ghost Writer" come up with.

Jack L   November 16th, 2009 10:46 am ET

That sounds like a perfectly sexist remark. How bout this. My brother-in-law said that not only shouldn't women be allowed to vote – they shouldn't be allowed to talk about it!
Teat for tat!

bob in LA   November 16th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Palin is correct. They would have fundamental differences:
Clinton would know what she was talking about and Palin would not have a clue

jason   November 16th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Clinton is not saying what she really feels. In 2008 Clinton was scheduled to speak to a protest against iran's president at the UN. When Clinton found out Palin was going to be there it was reported she said I won't go speak there if that woman is going to be there.

This shows that Clinton will be running for president in 2016 and doesn't want to offend any voters.

patriot   November 16th, 2009 10:45 am ET

Runofthemill   November 16th, 2009 10:42 am ET

Secretary Clinton no doubt being polite. It would be like Mozart sitting down with Lindsey Lohan to talk music.

Why is anyone bothering the Secretary of State with such inane questions?

aldo laghi   November 16th, 2009 10:41 am ET

Jimmy Carter gave us Reagan, Obama will give us Palin

Erik in Real Pennsylvania   November 16th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Former Temporary Governor Sarah Palin is not a politician. She's a self-created celebrity who had, for a brief time, attempted to serve as governor of a sparsely-populated state. Compare her Facebook publications to her spoken words and you it becomes clear her online entries are almost entirely ghostwritten. She's the best thing to happen to the Democratic Party in ages.

ben   November 16th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Mrs Clinton; she's not in the same class as you and it would be a total waste of your time.

gary davis Harbor Oregon proud american   November 16th, 2009 10:40 am ET

Steve in Kentucky   November 16th, 2009 10:38 am ET

Oh to be a fly on the wall ... Hillary making small talk and lacing her chit chat with little put-downs that Sara wouldn't have the intellect to even understand ....

But seriously, I think it's indeed in the Democrats' interest to sit down for coffee with the leader of the Rethuglican Party. Why not?

freshmint   November 16th, 2009 10:36 am ET

Is Ms. Clinton looking for a way to ridicule this "beautiful" Alaskan peageant? Well, certainly I won't support it because as usuall Sarah Palin has nothing to offer in the past, today or in the nearest future.

Churchill   November 16th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Shane   November 16th, 2009 10:29 am ET

Mrs. Clinton – we know you're just being nice! Don't waste your time with that lying idiot!! You're way too intelligent to even think about sitting down with that moron!!

Four and The Door   November 16th, 2009 10:27 am ET

This would be an interesting discussion. A woman who busted onto the national political scene by making city and state government work for the people sitting down with a former fist lady. I would advise Hillary to read Going Rogue first so she doesn't get embarrassed if they got into a discussion about how government is supposed to work in America.

Dave in WNY   November 16th, 2009 10:25 am ET

CNN folk may love her for her ability to be such a good teller of "non-truths", but the rest of us would be willing to make a bet that Mrs. Clinton, who told us New Yorkers she'd never run for President during her term as Senator, will never meet Sarah Palin – she has to keep that myth alive that she's actually really good at what she does and really has a lot of profound things to say, while working really hard at it.

sammieb51   November 16th, 2009 10:24 am ET

".... that we will fundamentally disagree on many issues .... ", yes like Hillary really has a brain and uses it regularly, is not part of the problem, knows what is going on in national and international politics, and is a terrifically hard worker that would NEVER have walked out of a job because it was "too much pressure" for her. But don't disturb Sarah, she is getting a manicure and fitting right now.

I think that Clinton would have better uses of her time to sit down with Palin. What has Palin shown that she is going to or willing to do? I don't think that it would really happen. Clinton said that she would sit down, but never stated that she would read the book. I think she plans on reading something other than a coloring book.

Hillary was a fool to become one of the clowns in the Obama circus. But she's a dedicated public servant, and the only adult in the administration, so good for her for putting country first over her political ambition.

Barry could take a lesson – actually, Barry could take a LOT of lessons – from Hillary. But he is too young, foolish and self-centered to know that.

Why is this world is there even any discussion about the Secretary of State, HRC, even considering sitting down with Sarah Palin, a common (and I use the term loosely) citizen, just like me and you? Perhaps she'll consider coming over to my house for a "sit-down coffee" as well. How ridiculous!

Frankie   November 16th, 2009 9:46 am ET

I guess if Hillary doesn't mind talking to a third grader, or a brick wall, talking to Sarah Palin couldn't be any more taxing on her intellect. Actually, it might be frustrating. Us older folks have less patience than when we were young. Having no grandchildren yet, Hillary doesn't really know how to communicate with a third grade intellect yet.

Make sure Sec. Clinton brings a picture book with her to explain what the is talking about...preferably a pop-up book to be safe.

you betcha   November 16th, 2009 9:24 am ET

I am fascinated by CNNs obsession with Sarah Palin. And you can betcha my comment will be moderated out as usual.

I can only think of two reasons why the fascination.

They feel Sarah is a front runner to run for a major office, and they want to continue the derogatory comments many of the posters here make about her.

Or, they know they are last in the ratings and this is the only was they can get 300 comments on a of the ticker topics.

Now to comment on the current Hillary / Sarah meeting. It will never happen. But if it did,,, can you say CATFIGHT!!!!!!!!
That would be funt o see, Hillary would kick Palins butt with her knowledge, but the Barricuda could wipe the floor with Hillary in a good all out brawl.

Don in Boca Raton   November 16th, 2009 9:24 am ET

'If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman.'"

And this comes from a woman who's party slammed the Supreme court judge nominee for stating that being a minority that has given her different judgment than that of a white male.

So I guess this is "great" for her to say, but any other comment like it can be an issue for anyone else. Why does she continue to get a free pass when she hasn't done ANYTHING BUT QUIT??

A.B.   November 16th, 2009 9:15 am ET

think that Hilary Clinton has better things to do with her time, given her current position in the Obama Administration, than to waste her time meeting and talking to Sarah Palin who is irrelevant and a national punchline. Hilary Clinton's time is better spent working on the issues of Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. My advise to Hilary is this: FORGET SARAH PALIN AND GET TO WORK!!

Oh to be a fly on the wall for a meeting between Palin and Clinton. Clinton ... The extraordinarily bright, and Palin the Death Panel liar from Alaska. Wouldn't you like to know how Palin would answer this question:

Mrs. Palin ... Aren't the real "death panels' the insurance companies who refuse health care coverage to those people with prior conditions and eliminate your health care coverage when you become ill with a terminal illness?

AND, Mrs Palin ... what would be your specific alternative answer for those States that accepted stimulus funds so they would not have to cut funding for teachers and other critical needs? Remember Mrs. Palin that States MUST have balanced budgets by law. Deficits are not an option, not even in Alaska. Your Conservative buddy Rubio in Florida has chastised the Republican Governor for accepting stimulus funds BUT had NO ANSWER when question as to which expenses he would cut in lieu of the stimulus. Seems like the Repubs and Conservs have NO answer for anything these days.

Don't do Clinton...She will then find fault with you

Mike   November 16th, 2009 9:03 am ET

Why is so much time and energy wasted on this woman–Ms. Palin. Secretary Clinton, I would think you would have more important things to be working on, such as the Israeli-Palestine conflict or have you already bowed to influences. Our lop-sided world trade agreements etc., is in dire need of your time and effort. Both of you ladies need to get a life or get out of the way so something meaningful dialogue can take place on national concerns.

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   November 16th, 2009 9:03 am ET

why on earth would clinton want to meet boob palin? does she really need the photo op?

George   November 16th, 2009 9:01 am ET

It would be a good thing. Maybe Sarah could learn something constructive rather than the crap she has been saying.
Democrats will sit down with republicans, but the party of no and huge crys really doesn't want to sit down with the dems.

MAngeline   November 16th, 2009 9:01 am ET

I can't imagine anything Sarah could say that would be of interest to Hilary. While I was not a Hilary supporter, but I think she is an extremely intelligent woman. On the other hand, Sarah is clearly not very bright and a mere "flash in the pan". She will make some $$ now as she has an opportunistic streak a mile wide, but 5 years from now people won't even know who she is.

Steve   November 16th, 2009 8:59 am ET

That Hillary's got a heart of gold, willing to take time to talk to a mindless child-woman. I can only imagine how that conversation would go. Hillary would try to discuss problems with North Korea or the Darfur crisis and Palin would chime in with 'Yesterday I saw a MOOSE! It was a BIG moose! I got my crayons and I drew a picture of him!"

Richie   November 16th, 2009 8:56 am ET

Hillary is such a generous spirit. Palin is clearly just wanting to up her own credibility by being seen with a real leader.

Michael   November 16th, 2009 8:50 am ET

Palin seems finally to have realized that the majority of American voters are too smart for her usual inanities; she has found an intelligent quote to parrot. Unfortunately, mimicry does not pass for learned discourse.
We're still too smart for you, Sarah.

Tram   November 16th, 2009 8:46 am ET

Just out of curiosity, how could Hillary Clinton talk "politics" with Sarah Palin when Palin is a complete ignoramous when it comes to politics?

Reny   November 16th, 2009 8:45 am ET

She should say if you want something half-done ask me since I quit the governor's office. What a loser.
