There are two economic threats facing this country....China and this administration. It's safe to say this administration is the greater of the two threats.

Guess what people, it is YOUR out of control consumerism, your favorite corporations who have outsourced manufacturing and jobs and continue to channel money to the Chinese, further devaluing the dollar. Even the Chinese haven't fixed their money value to us since 2005, seeing how bad our economy was becoming!
So look in the mirror, and stop your out of control consumerism! THAT's what pumped up the Chinese economy and THAT's why they've grown. Because of YOU!

I certainly prefer that we produce more goods here but the question below does arise from this article. Are the two thirds that see China as an economic threat the same folks that helped Wal Mart become the largest exporter from China??? All these big buy America Union types all shop at Wally world and than cry a river when jobs disappear overseas! I think that a large portion of the two thirds may possibly be hypocrites..

China is a economic threat to the United States! and if we continue with the same broken policies it will forge ahead of United States economically and militarilly. The Chinese societal work ethics has evolved to the better and they are continously improving.

If the Chinese can manufacture an item and sell it at a lower price than we can, we are charging more than the item is actually worth.

When American companies find it more cost effective to produce goods overseas and ship them back here, blame the tax code not the business.

We have the highest corp. tax structure in the world. Change the environment with lower taxes on corps and the jobs will stay in the USA. Or you can let China have our jobs...up to you.

Cap-and-Trade and the Pelosi bill will force jobs to go overseas. When Democrats bash American corporations every chance they get, they end up overseas. When unions force corps to go overseas because of their crazy labor contracts, we lose jobs.

I see a common factor in quite a few posts on this topic: only Bush and the Republicans are being blamed for this. People seem to forget that Chinese-made products became widespread in the 1990's, at the height of the Clinton presidency. Both Republicans and Democrats are responsible for this economic turmoil we are in now. I agree with another blogger: we need to stop spending money on useless stimulus, cap-and-trade, and health care bills and pass a balanced budget amendment before the spending gets out of hand and China will end up owning the United States.

It is funny that these Americans are speaking up now that we have lost our industrial base due out sourcing. What impact to you think that had on the unemployment rate and our economy as a whole? The answer greed. Americans are stupid to think that a thriving economy is only limited to us.

China is not a threat but can share some of our global economic burden but only if it plays fair. This admin should ask them first to get their currency free-floating by then end of 2010 or face currency driven tariffs on all imports. These tariffs will be based on fair value of their currency and the officia value. Any price advantage due to currency valuation will be charged as Fair and Acuurate Currency Tax (FAC)T).

I wills also send this idea to my congressman.

China is soon to be the new evil empire. We as Americans need to acknowledge them as a threat and be willing to accept sacrifices in order to get rid of our debt to them. That means accepting taxes for a few years. They greet us with a big smile as they slowily slide the knife into our backs.

We have an economic advantage over China do to the fact we have vast farm land under use at this time. With a large population an little land we can sell lot of food,timber and other raw material.

Corporate taxes granted are high but whats more ridiculous is CEO and administration wages. Imagine how much less a company could sell its products for if CEO crooks didn't bank massive incomes on top of massive bonuses. In case you missed the last decade.. One of the biggest spenders in our history was Bush. last time I checked he was a republican. Also, Bush lowered taxes on the rich and spoon fed corporate America. The way it is now is that we design it and China makes it, but because the US puts so little money into education (precisely at the time it should do just the opposite), America is falling further and further behind in the design race. Pretty soon, our products will not only be made in China, but they will be designed in China and there will be no design or manufacturing base left in this country.

Since we greedily sent all our manufacturing offshore, the REAL threat is in the event of a conflict they can flip into production of military materiel at the drop of a hat and overwhelm us while we are scrambling to ramp back up. We have few heavy manufacturing facilities left, no workforce ready to man them, and little raw materials production to support it. All because we fell hook, line, and sinker into the pockets of Big Money and the failed conservative ideologies of trickle down crapola.

The people answering this blog question who are fearful and confused about Obama, China, and our debt, are less than intelligent. Obama bowed to Prime Minister Hatoyama of Japan, not President Hu Jintao of China. The Chinese currency is the Yuan, not the Yen. And the U.S. has only been debt free once since 1776. You've just been schooled. Class dismissed.

Ten percent of China's exports go to ... Wal-Mart. Overall, Americans are their biggest consumers. The Chinese also are the largest international holders of US debt instruments.

I seriously doubt that they are much of a threat on too many levels.

I think economic threat is a misnomer. China's potential world dominance is inevitable given its current global economic dynamic.

What should be of more concern to Americans is their current strategy of trying to push down democracy and human rights down everybody's throat as a precondition to partnership. China has cleverly avoided that route and lets every country manage its internal politics while at the same making sure that its (China's) agenda remains on target. For example, China's approach in investing in Developing countries has had no regard for the recepient's political landscape and even worse than that contributing to significant degradation of the environment with impunity.

No they are not!!! Reason? They have to many overheads. Too big a population to control, that will enentually arise..

The FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is America's biggest economic threat.

China is not nearly as much an economic threat to the American economy as the current administration and congress are. They have lost any interest in creating jobs or helping companies put Americans back to work. The 'Stimulus" bill was a farce.

The only answer they have for the economy anymore is to point fingers at the previous administration. Don't hold your breath waiting for them to spend much time trying to help the economy. They are all about trying to spend another $1 trillion on a poorly devised health care bill now. It's more politically important.
