CNN Poll: Most Americans say Palin not qualified to serve as President.
CNN Poll: Most Americans say Palin not qualified to serve as President.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Fewer than three in 10 Americans think Sarah Palin's qualified to be president, according to a new national poll - the least of any of the five potential candidates included in the survey.

But another woman tops that list in the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday: two-thirds of the public thinks that Secretary of State HIllary Clinton's qualified for the Oval Office. That's more than Vice President Joe Biden, who's currently next in line for the presidency.

According to the poll, 28 percent of Americans say Palin is qualified to run the White House, with seven in 10 saying the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is not qualified.

The survey indicates that a majority of Republicans, 54 percent, feel Palin is qualified, with 44 percent indicating she isn't. But only 29 percent of independent voters questioned feel she is qualified to serve as president, with 68 percent disagreeing. According to the poll, nine in 10 Democrats feel Palin is not qualified.

The poll's release comes one day before the release of Palin's book, "Going Rogue: An American Life."

"The perception that Palin is not qualified to be president puts her significantly behind two potential rivals for the GOP nomination in 2012 - Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

According to the survey, nearly half of all Americans think Romney is qualified to be president, with 43 percent feeling the same way about Huckabee. Among Republicans, Palin is still lagging other potential 2012 primary candidates: 63 percent of GOPers think that Romney and Huckabee are qualified, 9 points higher than the number that say the same of Palin.

"Palin has many strengths - recent CNN polls indicate that Americans believe that she is not a typical politician, that she cares about average Americans, and that she is honest and trustworthy," says Holland. "But the perception that she is not qualified for the White House is her biggest Achilles heel."

An ABC News/Washington Post poll also released Monday indicates that 38 percent of Americans say Palin's qualified to serve as president, with six in 10 saying she's not qualified.

The CNN survey indicates that 67 percent of people questioned say that Clinton is qualified to serve in the Oval Office, 17 points higher than the 50 percent of Americans who think that Biden's qualified to take over as president.

Biden's low number may be attributable to negative feelings about the Obama/Biden administration rather than views of Biden personally.

"In the past, poll respondents who dislike an administration have sometimes taken it out on the vice president," say Holland. Polls from the late 1990s showed that Americans felt Al Gore was qualified to be president, but only if respondents were given the chance to say something negative about Gore that was unrelated to his qualifications, he adds. In the Bush administration, the number who thought Dick Cheney was qualified to be president dropped as the administration grew more unpopular. "Cheney's experience in office didn't change during that period - attitudes toward the Bush/Cheney administration did," he says.

Hillary Clinton also has the advantage of having been able to stay out of domestic policy debates, including health care, the economic stimulus, and other controversial matters, while adding almost daily to her experience in foreign policy, Holland adds, while Biden has been involved in the domestic policy disputes - "which might explain why some respondents were looking for a reason to say something negative about the veep."

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted November 13-15, with 1,014 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points for the overall sample.

Sarah Palin is barely qualified to hold office in the PTA, let alone in real politics. I thought we already established this, CNN.

Tanya   November 16th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

I don't see why you are doing these polls on her. This is stupid. She has not said she is going to even run.

Ndubueze Chuku   November 16th, 2009 4:32 pm ET

Is this a surprise? She is NOT QUALIFIED. Those that say she is qualified are blinded by t heir adoration of her; for whatever reason that is. Anyway, that is the bitter truth. US will make the gravest mistake of their history, if they elect her as president. You think George W. Bush was bad, what until Sarah Palin becomes president? Well, that will never happen. May God bless the USA.

NoKidding   November 16th, 2009 4:31 pm ET

Stating the obvious and OLD news. Next subject PLEASE!!!

George Guadiane - Austerlitz, NY   November 16th, 2009 4:31 pm ET

So, what does that mean?
SOME of America still can't handle the truth?
Sarah Palin is inarticulate, uninformed, improperly educated, not thoroughly attached to reality or the truth.
By all means, PLEASE run her in 2012, but KNOW, that in doing so, you will have doomed your party to failure, unless we run Michael Vick or someone like that.

www.firedoglake.com   November 16th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

Your own CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released today shows that only 28 percent of Americans say Palin is qualified to run the White House.

Shouldn't this not-at-all-surprising news be telling you that it's time to move all these useless stories about Palin to the Entertainment page, where they belong?

Clark W Griswold   November 16th, 2009 4:25 pm ET

Well, if she does get elected President, and the job gets too tough, she can always just quit. I hope the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate is better vetted this time!

Nate   November 16th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

This is a CNN poll...does anyone really think that this represents an objective cross-section of America? CNN polls are not reliable for the same reason Fox News polls are not reliable. While they represent an accurate cross-section of the people that use that source of information, people tend to gravitate towards news outlets that favor their political viewpoint.

Repub_in_Rehab   November 16th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

I get it now!

CNN is actually supporting Palin and is doing everything in it's power to get her elected. Why else would there be numerous daily articles about this dim bulb? No such thing as bad publicity is there?

And CNN has become Palin 2012 Headquarters.

the dude   November 16th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

She is just as quilified as the knucklehead that is there now.

Lois A.   November 16th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

It's scary that it would even be a question.

JamesJ   November 16th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

..but a community organizer is qualified. BWAHAHAHAHA
Liberals are abject cowards

geescard   November 16th, 2009 4:24 pm ET

Sarah is vastly more qualified to be president. than Barry Sortaro. Sarah is not a liar, not a Marxist, not a racist, not arrogant, not an elitist. She does not surround herself with rapist, Marxist, Maoists, child molesters, etc. CNN has a real problem.

Ann   November 16th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Everybody knows:
1. Democrats were stupid to not nominate Hillary
2. McCain made a mistake bringing Palin so early on the national stage
3. Hillary can be President (and I hope she will be in 2012), Palin is not presidential material

No news here.

jon   November 16th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

I don't need poll numbers to see that she is not ready its much to easy to see that she aint.

Thomas   November 16th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

It's funny, Palin runs a state government and Obama decides as a freshman senator to run for president.

This is Obama's qualification to be president? Having never run a business and lacking government experience, a poor attendance and voting record shows how stupid america is.

We witnessed this last election. The one thing is out in the open, democrats hate women politicians. They turned on Hillary who was the front runner, they showed their fear of Palin and the womens rights movement was pushed back a century because NOW was asleep defending women (Palin). It's ok to defame, descriminate and harrass a woman who is not liberal, NOW only defends liberals....

Jacque Bauer   November 16th, 2009 4:23 pm ET

Sarah's got them right where she wants them. The neysayers and political saboteurs were saying the same thing about Reagan at this stage.

Brad   November 16th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

She is not qualified, pointe finale! It sickens me to think of her at the helm of the greatest country on earth. We would be the laughing stock of the rest of the world.

revolution   November 16th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

Palin is as qualified to be President as Obama is, and we see how that is working out. God help this country survive his term, a walking disaster.
TAX SPEND CONTROL the Obama way.

LoLo   November 16th, 2009 4:22 pm ET

leave this woman out of the news and maybe she will go away. As far as the democrats bashing her, you GOPers have a lot of nerve. Your own party was bashing this woman. Just suck it up and admit that Palin is not qualified to run the US of A. Because she was governor of a state does not mean that she is qualified. She hoodwinked the people of Alaska into voting for her with all of those false promoses. Just grow up and think for yourselves. You do not need any party democrat or repulican telling you how to vote. My 9 year old grandaughter can do a lot better than Palin. She is a hypocrite through and through. Everyone keeps talking about Obama, especially the GOP , but at least he understands what is being said to him and can articulate what he is saying. We do not need a lab rat for president. Let this woman just fade away.

SAVVY OLDTIMER   November 16th, 2009 4:21 pm ET

Time to get professional medical help for the 28%,... wonder if they have health coverage?

Lucia Colon   November 16th, 2009 4:20 pm ET

Sarah Palin will never become president. The sane majority in this country that elected President Obama (and the Republican minority that still had the presence of mind to release that Palin is a completely whacked out moron) will never allow her election.

SOUTHERN HOTTIE   November 16th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Okay.
How much is Palin paying CNN to keep her in the news?
We demand to know now!

Catherine   November 16th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Hmmmm........I wonder where this polling took place. Couldn't have been in fly-over country. You know fly-over? That place where the majority of consistent voters live. Tipped your liberal Socialist hand on this one CNN.

Judy   November 16th, 2009 4:19 pm ET

Qualified???? She's a box of rocks!

S.B. Stein E.B. NJ   November 16th, 2009 4:18 pm ET

This is one of the many reasons that I didn't even think of voting for McCain in 2008. This was many of his flaws that made me question his ability to make good choices. She was one of the worst that McCain could have made.

mac691   November 16th, 2009 4:17 pm ET

Absolutely Hlarious! And, pray tell, just what were Obama's qualifications to be president prior to his run, for which your organization cheerleaded and ran interference? Can you name one accomplishment that would qualify him to be president? One? working for ACORN? And you have the brass to say that an elected governor has less qualifications than someone utterly without accomplishment. You are just too much. Try following something that might look like a reasonable and fair standard.

Moderate Democrat   November 16th, 2009 4:16 pm ET

Think about it. CNN conducts its own poll. It tries to find republicans, but it's nearly impossible since less then 20% of americans are republicans. Connect the dots to see the results.

It's a conspiracy I tell you, there are really more republicans out there. They are just too cowardly to be seen!

Torin for Lawrenceville Ga   November 16th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

Davisd Brooks of the N.Y. Times thinks that Sarah Palin is a joke and should not be seriously considered as a candidate for President. I hope that Mr. Brooks is right. Caribou Barbie has blind ambition and blames anything negative against her against her perceived enemies – which is a list that grows by the day. Wake up America!!

R.Kaminski   November 16th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

If Palin is not qualified, what does that say about Obama?!

CNN Reader   November 16th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

The most surprising outcome of this finding is that there are still 38% of American who think that Palin is qualified to be the President.

allen   November 16th, 2009 4:14 pm ET

Interesting...Palin is not qualified (which I tend to agree), but Obama was? Still trying to wrap my brain around what his qualifications or experience was that is any better than Palin.

Marilyn   November 16th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

No, Palin is not qualified to be president. But then, neither is Obama.

John   November 16th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

CNN Poll: Most Americans say Palin not qualified to serve as President

That wasn't already obvious?

RONNIE   November 16th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

hahaha Palin is worse than Homer Simpson!!

franz green   November 16th, 2009 4:13 pm ET

i dont think sarah palin is even qualified to be a governor

Ray E.   November 16th, 2009 4:11 pm ET

Jeez,
Why do you run this poll? Can't we wait a couple of years?

steven harnack   November 16th, 2009 2:56 pm ET

Please, pleezze, give us a break with all of these polls! I don't see what their purpose is since opinions change daily. If the purpose of the polls is to tell the sheep what they are supposed to think stop already and maybe in their confusion they'll be forced to have an original thought.

RJ   November 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Think about it. CNN conducts its own poll. Its followers are more liberal. Connect the dots to see the skewed results.

avdss   November 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

wow, there are still 3 people think Palin is qualified to be President. That's still 3 too many.

JOHNSON oklahoma   November 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

Even palin knows she is not Presidental material but also know their are a few fools that will buy her book and make millions and finally the 15 min.of fame will be over hopefully this is the last min. of that fame

Rob R   November 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Is this surprising anyone? That 54 percent of Republicans...is it 54 percent of the 21 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Republicans? So that would mean roughly about 11-12 percent of us. In other words, those WAY OUT there in the fringe...more tea please.....

EW   November 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

Yawn....if a beauty queen/news anchor from Alaska is the best that this country can come up with for its most important position at a time when we have so many monumental challenges facing us, then America has sadly seen its best days....

Michael   November 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

What gave them their first clue? Palin is such a corrosive example of the "American Dream" gone wrong that her very presence in the media indicates the problems facing the growing illiterate class in our country.

Rick   November 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

If we use Mr Obama as our guide, then Mrs. Palin is eminently qualifed since she was the only person in the previous presidential race who had actually been in charge of a state/government entity prior to the race. No whining please as this is just the facts.

joan   November 16th, 2009 2:54 pm ET

The 28% are as dumb as she is.
What a phony bimbo this woman is,
People cannot be so stupid as to not see through this idiot

Doug   November 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

She has 3 years, time will tell. Don't get giddy. It may bite you.

Joan   November 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

I hope she runs. It will make for great SNL skits again. She will only help the Democrats. By the way CNN, today you have spent most of your time covering Palin and showing clips of Guiliani trashing the New York justice and law enforcement systems who he thinks can't handle the trials of the detainees. Shameful. Your President is overseas making great speeches and meeting important world leaders which will impact on the economic future of us all. Which stories should get priority coverage? It's a no brainer.

New Age Independent   November 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

The constant bashing of Palin by CNN and liberal Democrats is exactly what is wrong with the Democrat party these days. The hate and intolerance of anything that is in disagreement with them should be a warning to anyone. It's this type of behavior that pushed me away this year, and until this is resolved the party's message is meaningless.

Jean   November 16th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

I wouldn't let Palin graze with my goats , I wish she would use that bridge she built going nowhere

Anthony   November 16th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

Isnt this YESTERDAY'S news...? C'mon CNN, tell us something we didnt already know...

Franky, Land of Lincoln   November 16th, 2009 2:48 pm ET

This ain't news, not news at all. For anybody who is searching something out of Palin, especially GOP, just stop it. Leave her alone.

I really don't understand why people are rumoring her run for President, if she in fact chooses to. I just don't understand why. I think anybody know for that matter but even her own book won't help. I am curious to find out what the reviews and critics have to say but come on guys, you know as well as I do that she ain't qualified, never was and never will.

I just don't understand, I just don't. Just leave her alone.

Splat!~   November 16th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

That must mean 3 in 10 Americans think 'President of the United States' is synonymous with 'Village Idiot'!~

ib42   November 16th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

Clinton has brains. Palin has moose droppings.

Robert Batelli   November 16th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

What is the basis of Palin not being qualified. She was governor of a US state that plays an important role in providing energy to this country. Of course this is a CNN poll so this must be taken with a huge grain of salt in terms of being biased.

Martie   November 16th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

Here we go again CNN!! What a bloody joke you guys are!

Thomas, Illinois   November 16th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

And were "shocked"?

Clinton Is Intelligent_Palin is Not   November 16th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

Palin is gorgeous, bubbly, I-want-to-be-your-best-friend cute.
But she is also a liar, of low intelligence, vicious, and would divide the country with her hate and venom against anyone who is not an extremist Republican.

Thank God America is not buying her.

Clinton, on the other hand....now that's an intelligent woman who makes America looks good!

Jackie   November 16th, 2009 2:44 pm ET

I don't understand how people can compare Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. Hillary can actually carry on a conversation, while Palin obviously can't. I do hope Hillary runs again.

Walter, Long Beach   November 16th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

That there are as many as 2 or 3 people in every ten that believe she IS qualified to be President just shows how fundamentally different a world those on the far Right live in.

They don't just have different preferences, the have different perceptions. Theirs is a world full of black helicopters, wild conspiracies, and courageous heroes who strike the rest of us as totalitarian kooks.

We need to stop laughing at these people. They need to be taken seriously.

Gina   November 16th, 2009 2:43 pm ET

Oh brother.....isn't that precious.

Ben   November 16th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Boy this Q was a no-brainer...... Ms. Palin should better understand and accept her strengths and come to grips with her weaknesses. She is not presidential material. Remember the old football saying "you can't make chicken salad out of chicken feet" Well, the same is true speaking of Mrs. Sarah. She is a pretty lady and performs well for the cameras but there is no substance there. Remember she failed the "Katie Couric Test" -didn't know the answers to simple everyday questions. Any political party who would stake their chances on her must have a very weak candidate field. And anyone who would seriously consider voting for Palin for the United States presidency must be totally lacking in most cognitive skills. (not very smart) !

16th-gen American   November 16th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Yet, a LESS qualified person was elected President!

www.firedoglake.com   November 16th, 2009 2:41 pm ET

We really don't need any more polls to tell us the obvious.

Sarah Palin isn't qualified for the Oval Office.

HIllary Clinton is qualified for the Oval Office.

Not news.

Jamie   November 16th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

Why do you keep taking these when the results are the exact same? I think the American media are in love with Palin more than the American public!!!

sharon   November 16th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

NO way.........NO how........JUST PLAIN ............NO.

Rick   November 16th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

And Obama is qualified? Must have been those years as a community organizer. It wasn't like he was a govenor or anything.

I don't think Clinton is president is she?

rj   November 16th, 2009 2:39 pm ET

s. palin is the less qualified I have seen in a long time.

Sarah Palin, and Legend in Her Own Mind!

She is Irrelevant

She is Dumb

She is Nobody!

johnathan   November 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

Sometimes – not always, does a poll like this indicate that the public isn't as ignorant as it may appear to be at times. Hope this one holds up. She's a dunce as far as high office is concerned. Besides, can you imagine a slogan of: Palin 2012 – 2014 and a 1/2?

Ken   November 16th, 2009 2:38 pm ET

So, can we stop talking about her for cryin' out loud!

charles darnay   November 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Sarah, do not listen to the polls. Please, please run in 2012..... :)

jsmith   November 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

I know Palin trashing is Popular for CNN, and God knows CNN needs ratings. But the election in 2010, needs to be concentrated on. We Americans ( all parties) will do some Liberal house cleaning, weather CNN wants to report that or not. The shove to socialism will stop when we get the socialist out.

wcb2009   November 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

Palin as President? LOL! This is a joke, right?

Tom n VA   November 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

We really are a country of idiots aren't we?

SkiDoc   November 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Stay tuned. The "wimmins libbers" are finally going to see what a real woman is capable of. Unlike Obama who hasn't run a Dairy Queen, this patriot has been the CEO of Alaska. Don't worry – she'll be ready. Go Sarah. You betcha!

Honestly   November 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Please, Sarah Palin has far more experience than the one who is in the office right now....and look what he has done...or should I say NOT done.

Why are you so afraid of Sarah Palin that you feel the need to continue to run negative articles about her, is it because 75% of the Republican Party feel that she IS qualified?

Sarah Palin will be our first FEMALE President and she will do a far better job than the inept idoit currently residing at the White House.

James   November 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

If the Republican Party believes that it can get anywhere with Sarah Palin, then it is even more misguided than I thought. Palin in the White House is the biggest joke of all. Why she is getting so much press, as compared to relatively little for Huckabee and Romney, the 2 real front runners is incomprehensible.

irish   November 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

Honest and trustworthy do not IMHO go with Sarah Palin. Out for herself, a media hog....seem more in line with her qualifications.

USMC   November 16th, 2009 2:35 pm ET

I would vote for anyone over CLINTON!!!

fasteddy   November 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

Palin is nice to look at, but a disaster when she opens her mouth!!

Joe in CT - not Lieberman!!!   November 16th, 2009 2:34 pm ET

WOW! I am amazed that 30% of Americans think Ms. Palin is qualified to be President! Based on comments I have heard from folks from Alaska, most of them didn't think she was qualified to be their Governor after dealing with her for a couple of months. While I have always let it be known that I am a Liberal Democrat, unlike that other Joe from CT, I personally believe that her winning the Repbulican nomination for President will deal the Republican party a blow that they will be decades in recovering from, if at all. They will be like the Whigs in the 1850's. That party self-destructed because they would not take an official stand on anything, preferring to stand against whatever the Democratic Party was in favor of, with the exception of the Slavery and Nullification issues. Sound familiar to anyone?

malabar   November 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

God Bless you Sarah!!

Kate   November 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

Speaking as an independent, I find this to be a great snapshot of where the Republican party is: 54% believe that this fame-junkie, whose only interest is her own aggrandizement, is qualified for the highest office in the land. They are as delusional as she is. She is superficial, uninformed, a quitter.

In the past 30 years, Republicans held the White House for 20. We got astronomical debts and deficits all throughout. Now, they pretend it's their biggest concern. But, their biggest concern is stalling the progress of America for their own political ends.

Come to think of it, a narcissist like Palin is the perfect symbol for their party.

She is not qualified, never was, never will be. When is the nation going to get off the Palin Wagon! She is a quitter and is only still in the lime light for the bucks! Even with that, I hope Republicans are stupid enough to pick her in 2012.

J.P.   November 16th, 2009 2:33 pm ET

But a community agitor who has never held a job is a better choice?

For three years now, Barack Obama has been out there saying nothing better than its ever been said.

David Frum was right... 2010 *IS* going to be a bloodbath... but just not for the party he thinks.

We'll be at 11% unemployment before Christmas, and we'll likely top 12% by the time Barry marks his first anniversary squatting in the White House. Now tell me, how's that hope and change working out for you?

russell   November 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

DUUUH........We've been saying that since she came on the national scene , now CNN since you know what everyone else knows maybe you'll stop printing stories about this idiot ,the only people that think she's qualified to be POTUS are some whites , and i'm sorry to put that on the forfront but's true...............

But she chose to trade that in for giving speeches in front of pre-selected adoring crowds who already agree with everthing she has to say. Buffalo Bill   November 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

My question is whether the current president is qualified to be president. Based on the disastrous economy, waffling on Afghanistan, promotion of socialist healthcare, and failure to recognize the difference between common criminals and terrorists, I'd offer a resounding NO! However he IS qualified to bow before foreign leaders.

Joe   November 16th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

"nine in ten Democrats feel Palin is not qualified". Who are the other 10 percent? I'm shocked there is even 1 in 10 that thinks she would be anything but a disaster in the Oval Office. Saturday Night Live ratings would finally come out of the basement, but that would be the only upside I can think of.

Suzie   November 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

You guys are giving Palin more media coverage NOW then you did when she was running for VP. Can't wait to see how much coverage you give her if in fact she does run for President. She hasn't even said she is running but you guys seem SCARED of HER!!! as you should be! You all are backing Hillary Clinton NOW but where were you when she was running for President. Things that make you go Hmmmmm

Ron   November 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

A CNN poll show Clinton trouncing Palin!! Write the article when you have less biased polling figures!

Proud American Lib   November 16th, 2009 2:22 pm ET

Every day, at least once a day, I pray that the GOP continues on its current purity track; that they continue to purge all but the most supposedly "Reagenesque" from their ranks; that the fake-grassroots Teabag movement continues to steal the thunder of the establishment kingmakers; that the voices of populist rockstars like Sarah Palin continue to drown out any semblance of reasoned discourse to finally become the real voice of the GOP.

Then, THEN, they'll find themselves unable to be elected Wasilla dog-catcher, and thoughtful leadership can once again become fashionable.

Joe, San Diego   November 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Amazing how SoS Clinton is immensely qualified but people would wanted not even close to being qualified-non-question answering-bumbling Palin as president.
At least President Obama constructed a sentence saying what he "hopefully" can accomplish which is a lot more than McCain and Palin
McCain pretended he had answering and left folks hanging hoping they vote for him to hear is resolutions... Palin just picked with President Obama saddened to say she just played the blame game and it worked for the Joe the Plumber types and the rednecks that can not fathom a Black president... well the winner is no matter what negative words folks say about the president now they sure must look at what Bush because the stuff folks complain President Obama isn't doing is because Bush left the mess... in the military the saying goes: leave it better than you found it... but of course Bush was ignorant to the military hence Iraq and Afghanistan...

Jason   November 16th, 2009 2:21 pm ET

Seven stories about Palin on the ticker, give me a break! I am a democrat and even I can see that the media is treating her unfairly. Please stop writing about her because if you took another poll it would find that most Americans don't care about Palin that much and wish she would fade back out of the spotlight.

Beth   November 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

And this is a surprise? How?

Marry   November 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

PLEASE, CNN put Sarah into the entertainment section!!! Who needs a poll to know that she is not qualified? 2 minutes of her talking will let everyone know there is no way. But I remember a saying: One of the great things about America is that everyone can grow up to become President. However, that is also a risk one has to live with. This risk is thankfully banned by the President now – but one never knows what’s next…

Pablo   November 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Ms Palin after an analysis appears to be a Malignant Narcissist , (She Quits) her endeavors before the results of her efforts come to fruition , abandoning those who have helped her into positions of responsibility
and letting initiatives whither and letting others hold the bag for lost efforts . (She is a Blamer) , she blames those who have been allies and foes for any negative baggage she has accumulated . ( An Avoider) , the responsibility for her daughters promisuity is not her's as a mother , Ms Palin hoisted it on the McCain organization because they chose to characterize her as a caring and supportive mother , hello , facts appear to support that she know her daughter was intimate with Levi and ignored the fact , preaching instead of acting is a characteristic of a Malignant Narcissist .

Hollie   November 16th, 2009 2:19 pm ET

Sarah Palin is by no means qualified to run this country. If she wanted to be taken seriously, she should have used her book to put out a well-conceived point-of-view on a topic such as global security, energy, the war in afghanistan, etc. Anything to illustrate that she has the mental chops to do the job. Instead she chose to throw darts and play politics – armed with many errors in her statements. Can we now put her in the past and get her out of the news!

Arthur   November 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

It will be very interesting to see second Republican Presidents that are quitted office in the mid-term. The first one is not by his own will. But, the second one sees a big money on the horizon, and trade-in US president position for money. I guess the GREED is good.
Whoever supports Mrs, Palin should never complian GREED of Wall Street.

Cynthia   November 16th, 2009 2:18 pm ET

You think? This nit wit is qualified to be dog catcher. She is all in this for herself, this woman is trying to rake in the bucks and Oprah is such a dissapointment for having her on the show telling lies about this book. I hope Oprah's rating plummet because of it.

Bob   November 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

Please oh please nominate Mrs. Palin.

george from alaska   November 16th, 2009 2:17 pm ET

tick toc...tick toc...tick toc your 15 minutes of fame are fading away fast...just like you book sales will. i'm looking forward to you getting out there and making a lying, self serving fool of yoursef as usual on the book trail...because after that ridiculois fiasco, the camera will go away (and nobody will care about your silly facebook ramblings) enjoy...ms. hitler wannabe...it's almost over...maybe you should ban your own book...THANK GOD!

snowflake   November 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

If there is ONE thing that can be learned from Sara Palin, it would be the mere fact that the Republican Party and the Right Wingers are simply a "Cult"!! They have NO common sense, NO integrity, NO intelligence and definitely are a bunch of LIARS!! It just amazes me that these people are the ones who sit in the front row of any church, are Bible based, and have learned from infancy to abide by the laws of God!! The Ten Commandments" mean NOTHING TO THEM!! It's only about the rich and famous for the GOP!! They are self-serving, and only take care of there "own". They could care less about the poor and those who are in need!! That's the double-edged sword with these people. Practice the beliefs of the Bible and convince everyone you are a Christian! In reality, they are not committed to practicing what they preach!!

Enough   November 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

She strikes such interest from all the liberal bloggers. Media is still so threatened by her............just look at all the topics on Palin. Keep it up, you keep her going. The more venom spewed by the left, the more power you give her. If you didn't care, you wouldn't post.

tom in Tennessee   November 16th, 2009 2:16 pm ET

Why are you libs so afraid of this woman, that you will do any thing to discredit her. If you did not consider her a threat you would not be talking about her all the time. Also if it is a CNN poll it will not be representative of America because you have become so liberal. Once again agenda over truth. I don't have a strong opinion of her in either direction but I recognize the efforts to drag her through the mud. What I wonder is how can people say she is not qualified for the whitehouse when it is occupied by a lying inept idiot that is worse than Bush. All he can do is give speeches.

Pat   November 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Will she NEVER go away?????

sherry   November 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

The repubs that feel she is qualified truely amaze me.
Palin cant even finish a sentence when asked a question she just flip flops around. I'm waiting for more info that Levi has on her and then we will see who feels shes still qualified.

nate   November 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

Mike Murphy: "If Sarah Palin looked like Golda Meir, would we still be talking about her?"

Edward from Ohio   November 16th, 2009 2:14 pm ET

I personally think Chelsea Clinton is more qualified than Sarah Palin.

Mat   November 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

Republicans are just confused and brainwashed if they think this piece of mistaken humanity can serve as President. Can we move past this woman to someone who is relevant please? She lives in Alaska for a reason...because you just don't live in Alaska. BTW, does that mean she got 2nd out of 2 in the "beauty" pageant.

Matt   November 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

The polls are kind of misleading. Because we all know that Republican voters might think Palin is not qualified to be President, if she wins the primary and goes up against Obama, most likely they would still vote for her over the Democrat Obama even with that belief.

Betty Phillips   November 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

Gee whiz!! There is no way the Americam people would want another CLINTON in the White House. Here is a terrible thought, think of all the items the Clintons took from the White House after Clinton and Monica's term was up!! there would certainly be more than a red couch taken with the Clinton pigs. People can not use their common sense when it comes to Palin, everyone should go back and see for themself just how much Palin did for Alaska, why trash a young mother, is it that they are jealous? When I think how stupid Hill did in letting Obama, in a word abuse her, I think she is stupid for taking the position Obama gave her, to me that show just how greedy Hill is.
We certainly did not win the prize when we got Obama, now they want to add fire to the pot by even thinking of another Clinton. This country needs someone that will get our country back on its feet, I think Palin would do a much better job than Hilliary Clinton, what would that make Bill Clinton be while Hill is in office?? Oh I get it, Bill would be "Hills "man of the house", that she could handle. Betty

John   November 16th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

You/ve put it in writing, it must be true.... Please keep me alerted to when you are going to take another poll. I wouldn't want to miss reading the results. Clinton; ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Chris   November 16th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

i don't get it. who cares? what is the signifigance of this poll? is hilary clinton running against sarah palin for president sometime in the near future? did i miss that story? what is the point of this? just some manufactured rivalry? you do realize that HRC is currently the Sec of State and sarah palin is a private citizen. neither of these women are running for anything at all right now. let alone against one another. yesterday john king asked every single person that crossed his path their views on palin. now we're polling two unlikely rivals, neither of whom are running for office in a non-election year? really, cnn?

valwayne   November 16th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

Let's pray that Hillary decides to challenge Obama in 2012 and end this nightmare! Hillary 2012!!!

vic nashville , Tn   November 16th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

I totally agree with this poll

Kingssman   November 16th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

But i'm sure the republican party will find some way to prop her as candidate for 2012. That is unless Palin doesn't drop out mid-race after seeing how expensive it is to run for president. Hillary was willing to go in debt to get into the whitehouse. I can't say the same for Sarah.

Mr James Griffin (former Mayor of Buffalo, NY)   November 16th, 2009 2:12 pm ET

Ms Palin is a smart women and would do a excellent job! She has more experience then the current person in office and do better then the current group which in office!!! We are heading in a BAD direction and the word on the street this current group will not last .The people who got their by a vote by Mickey Mouse etc.... to get them in office . It would do You good to see the direction these people are going in.

Big V   November 16th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

28% of Americans think she's qualified, and 28% of Americans thought George Bush did a great job. The funniest thing is all these politicians – Hoffman, Rubio – etc. thinking they can win elections with 28% of the vote. Those cuts in public education sure are working......

joel   November 16th, 2009 2:10 pm ET

Most americans are not qualified to be president. Sarah Palin is not even in the ballpark.

Otto   November 16th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

She is highly qualified to shoot moose from the air but not major prime time quality.

She could not manage a Boro in New York State, even the smallest of all; Staten Island. There are more people on Staten Island than all of Alaska combined. I'd like to see her to be Mayor of New York as wait just one month for her to quit.

Of course she is qualified, but for what? Only lame brain Republicans would vote for a lame brain, and most of them are.

Phil Adee   November 16th, 2009 2:09 pm ET

Keeping in mind that this was a CNN poll, one would hardly be surprised at the results. You and your left wing counterparts, i.e. CBS, NBC, and ABC have done all in your power to discredit Sarah Palin since the day she stepped onto the national stage. How anyone could be considered less experienced than the debacle we have in present White House with his Chicago associates edging him on, is beyond me. And furthermore, if this country didn't see enough of the Clinton's and their brand of morality over 8 years, then they'd get just what they deserve.

GI Joe   November 16th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

The cheap wig doesn't help any.

texas conservative   November 16th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

why is she getting more press coverage then the little girl in N.C. her mother sold her into sexual servitude and this country is covering a quitter 24-7....what is really wrong here.

Mary Turner   November 16th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

Sarah Palin can thank CNN for her book sales. CNN has had 24 hours a day for days now of Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. Why is a news channel spending hours promoting her book?? CNN has lost its way. Bring back Ted.

A.B.   November 16th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

Overall, the majority of Americans know that Sara Palin is not qualified to be president or even vice president based on her behavior and disasterous performance as a vice presidential candidate last year while she was McCain's running mate. No book or TV interview with Oprah will change that fact. This woman is a Dan Quayle in a skirt with lipstick!! In today's political climate, people who have political aspirations and make mistakes or fail to properly sell themselves to the public usually do not get a second chance to make a first impression and the same will be true of Sarah Palin.

Leta   November 16th, 2009 2:08 pm ET

I guess you could make Hillary President put her at the Whitehouse and never let her out.....Hey a new home for the Gitmo prisioners....

Keith in Austin   November 16th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

CNN and ABC polls?
I wonder how she would do on a poll by Fox?

Mike from Brooklyn   November 16th, 2009 2:07 pm ET

To begin with, McCain's choice of Palin seemed cynical and poorly thought out. The powers that be in the Republican Party seem to be too focused on finding someone who is a "crowd-pleaser" without enough concern for genuine substance. Palin's diviseness is offensive to me - I am an "average American" yet I disagree with many of her positions, therefore I am not a "real American". I look forward to the day that kind of attutude is left behind by both partys. I also look forward to the time we stop hearing about Palin every other day - enough!!

GI Joe   November 16th, 2009 2:06 pm ET

She's a pawn for the white men in the republican party.

She stirs up hate and division with her lies and they stand back, clean hands, rake in the money, and get nominated.

Twit doesn't even know how much she is being manipulated.

Loretta   November 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

It is hard for me to understand why a book by someone like Palin is on the best seller list and why everyone is giving her so much TV time. She is still just as ditzy as she was on the campaign trail and who really cares anyway. If I could not ever read another book, hers would be the last one I would every cosider reading

Donkey Party   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

CNN, you are no better than a cheap gossip mag. Good luck getting your ratings back. The day you can run a story without that racist whhhore will be the day I return to CNN for news.

Karen   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

I would never vote for Palin for any elected office.

Christie   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Sarah Palin is not qualified to run the White House. Frankly speaking I am sick of the media keeping her name alive. Let it go and let her go back to Alaska do whatever Alaskians do this time of year.

Four and The Door   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Are these the same "Most Americans" that thought Obama, Pelosi and Reid's stimulus bill was about jobs?

I am the Not-So-Great and Powerless Wizard of Rush   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

Sarah is THE most qualified candidate to lead the new Rebirther Tea Party in 2012. You Betcha.

Jon Walton, Tampa   November 16th, 2009 2:04 pm ET

It is a sad state of affairs when political party affiliation blurs judgement. As intelligent people, we should seek out and support those candidates that display superb excellence. It is not only bad judgement to say Governor Palin is qualified–it is a frightening glimpse her supporters believing she is qualified.
For example, your brother-in-law who dropped out of high school in 9th grade and spends more time in the bar than with his family may be a great person to chat with and may be full of grand ideas that turn you on; but that doesn't mean he is qualified for anything but drinker of the year.

Henry Miller, Libertarian   November 16th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

Palin is at least as qualified to be President as Obama. (I know that's not saying much...)

marzxyz   November 16th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

If Hillary decides to run in the future, she is going to be a powerhouse. Nobody will be able to touch her experience (not to mention her smarts).

Eloy   November 16th, 2009 2:03 pm ET

Qualified or not does not really matter for Palin, in fact, the more speculation the better for her pocket book. She makes more money out of office than serving the people as she demonstrated quitting her job as Governor of Alaska. Thus, I see a happy end of the story for everybody...Palin will not be even be the Republican nominee – good for America – but she will win any way because the insaciable thirst for gosip of the American public will make her cash in through book deals, speaches and perhaps even her own talk show.

We – Americans – need to mature politically and not misunderstand a celebrity with a real leader of the free world.

Steve from AK   November 16th, 2009 2:02 pm ET

She is not even qualified to be anything in public life. She should just stay in AK and hunt and fish!

j   November 16th, 2009 2:02 pm ET

Palin isn't qualified to be dog catcher.

Hillary is by far the better educated of the two and is currently developing her foreign diplomacy credentials. There's no question I'd vote for Hillary Clinton should she decide to run for office.

Just Me   November 16th, 2009 2:02 pm ET

And yet CNN continues to talk of her everyday. Listen to the polls CNN since you like them so much. Please..we are Sarah Palin out.

Sujith, NE   November 16th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

How many times before CNN is convinced?

emtpJB   November 16th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

Fewer than three in 10 Americans think Sarah Palin's qualified to be president,

....and this is a big suprise....WHY?????? It's not even noteworthy or newsworthy! Aren't there more important stories to report?

Tim   November 16th, 2009 2:01 pm ET

But ironically she is still more qualified than Obama. So what's the point?

George James   November 16th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

Sara Palin is an example of 'nobility thrust on somebody.'

NadineCA   November 16th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

Why are they even polling for this. She's a complete loser who quit her job as Governer because it was too hard, why would anyone want to vote for someone like that. Way too much attention is being given to this women. I'll come back when everyone stops reporting about her until then, I'll just watch local news.

Rick G   November 16th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

Sarah Who ?

Bluebonnet   November 16th, 2009 2:00 pm ET

I like Sarah's values but I don't believe she is qualified, AT THIS TIME, to be POTUS. BUT, neither is Hilary!! She probably would have been better than the current administration though.

laxraddad   November 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

I like Sarah Palin but tend to agree that she is not qualified, like Barak Obama, to be President.

political junkie   November 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

WHAT AN UNDERSTATEMENT !

...and by the way, I'm an Independent

JohnM   November 16th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

Anybody who thinks palin is qualified (excluding meeting the legal requirements) to be president isn't mentally qualified to vote.

CMG   November 16th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

What a frightening thought to have this loony as leader of the free world. She swears that the media is unfair, but she seemingly can't keep herself out of the limelight. Go away, please.

Bill   November 16th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

This country is in deep trouble when 28% of the voters think Palin is qualified for the oval office. John McCain should be ashamed of himself for what he tried to do to this country.

Jersey   November 16th, 2009 1:56 pm ET

Palin doesn't care if she wins or not. All she cares about is getting and keeping the money it would take to run, then hit the lucrative speaking circuit. Keep it real.

Sandy Sue   November 16th, 2009 1:56 pm ET

We already had a pathological liar for 8 years. Not looking for a repeat especially from someone as narassistic as this woman.

Anon   November 16th, 2009 1:56 pm ET

No Contest. An intelligent, politically savvy woman who knows the international scene versus a functionally illiterate, clueless, headline grabbing bimbo who didn't even finish her term as Alaska gov..

NC   November 16th, 2009 1:56 pm ET

Suprise, Suprise. Come on CNN give us some real political news.

Linda   November 16th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

Incredible! Who ARE these people who believe Palin is qualified to be President. You would have to be an idiot to believe that. My God, the woman is a moron.

Midwest   November 16th, 2009 1:55 pm ET

The idea that anyone can see this person as qualified to be the POTUS is almost unbelievable.

She is a third rate politician who bends the truth to fit her skewed version of the world while abandoning her elected duties so she could make a seven figure pay day to write a book.

If the Republicans want her, then I recommend that all of America watch the video where she introduces a minister at her church in Wasilla who then went on to preach about witches. Yes, REAL witches.

What America needs is a POTUS that believes in witches.

Ken Williams   November 16th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

Yeah, but a lot of Americans are stupid. If you need proof of that look at the idiot in the White House who is flushing our future right down the drain.

Ken, AZ   November 16th, 2009 1:54 pm ET

What this means is that a very large majority of Americans are smarter than republicans.

SH in TX   November 16th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Once again, I am shocked that 28% of American people think that she is qualified to be the President.. What planet are they living on?

She's a liar, quitter, bigot, and a host of other things I cannot mention for fear of being censored. The only thing she's qualified to be president of, is the Wasilla Hunt Club. I'm sure she's in great standing with that kind of group, and you don't need an I.Q.over 50. All you need are a rifle and a love of killing helpless animals.

Taylor   November 16th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

Seriously CNN. With millions of Americans out of work, including myself, your continuing fixation on Palin is perplexing. Without a job, everything else irrelevant- immigration, health care reform, Palin's latest facebook entry, etc.

Eddie   November 16th, 2009 1:53 pm ET

President Obama had less experience the Palin and see how far he got in life.

Reformed Republican   November 16th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

HEY CNN...What's with yet another story about how politically non-relavent Palin is?

Given that she has become such a non-event as an elected politician, why do you keep running stories about this media-created creature in the "Politics" section of your site?

She contributes to American politics these days about as much as Michael Jackson does – and remember, MJ is dead and gone...

Do us all a favor, please put stories about this headline-seeking hack in the "Show Biz" section where they belong...

Kirk   November 16th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

Well, that just tells you very clearly, that those 28% should NOT be allowed to vote in any elections until they've undergone rigid therapy and common sense education programs. PERIOD.

Isn't it a no-brainer to the rest of us???

zeke   November 16th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

Ummmm....it was a CNN poll......big surprise.

Leta   November 16th, 2009 1:48 pm ET

Cul DeSac   November 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

I wonder what Sarah Palin is up to these days?

Jane/Seattle   November 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Palin needs to stay home and take care of her family, especially the one with Downs Syndrome. As a grandmother of one of these lovely children, she needs to be home to help her child grow and learn. Let her hubby support this family. Peace

jaye   November 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Palin is dumb as a coal bucket – she makes George Bush look like a rocket scientist.

Bubba   November 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Seriously, folks, she quit her job as governor. I wish we could get rid of Gov. Sanford that easily. She's a tv personality, not a career public servant. She'll be on FauxNews by Christmas, screeching about 'Happy Holidays' or some other made-up emergency. Case closed.

Sebastian   November 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

My question is- who are the three out of ten people who think she is qualified? She couldn't hack it as governor, she can't tell the difference between a continent and a country according to McCain campaign staff, she doesn't demonstrate any understanding of policy or current events, she thinks being asked what newspapers she reads is a "gotcha" question, she gets in trashy Jerry Springer feuds with her grandchild's teenage father, her near-compulsive (and transparent) lying is constantly being called out by Republicans and Democrats alike, she can't string together a coherent sentence, she had a slew of ethics charges against her, she stumbled through like five colleges on her way to a diploma in sports journalism (yet she claims to hate the media) if I'm not mistaken, she couldn't answer questions in her VP debate and had to resort to pre-scripted answers that had nothing to do with the question in order to bluff her way through, she became a national laughing stock via SNL (which, instead of creating a caricature like they normally do, relied on near-verbatim quotes that were intrinsically ridiculous, mindless and funny)- but she can see Russia from her house! Seriously?

John Starnes Tampa Florida   November 16th, 2009 1:47 pm ET

Sarah Palin has quit EVERY job or position she has held...what makes her few supporters think she'd break that quitting streak if, God help us all, she got into the White House?

Steve from WI   November 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

Given a 28% "qualified" rating, it's the tone and intellectual depth of her book and tour that are her last best shot at 2012.

She doesn't have gubernatorial ethics complaints as a liability anymore. But if she continues to come off as a petty whiner about her treatment in the press, all the best ghost-written policy plans in the world won't make her seem presidential.

Patty in California   November 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

Wow, Palin must have a really big family to come up with that 28%

Sarah the Sandwhich-Maker   November 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

Please, PLEASE. Could you stop polling about, writing about, etc. etc. Sarah Palin?

If she does something newsworthy, fine. But why do you keep taking these polls about her?? They just keep showing the same thing! And why wouldn't they.....NOTHING has happened regarding her, and she hasn't DONE anything since the last poll!!

So please give it a rest and move on to news. Thank you.

FAYE MOGHTADER   November 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

if palin is qualified to be a president, then i am maryln monroe.
what a joke, and insult to the intellects of american public.
if george bush was not bad enough, who could not even speak english properly.if american public is this domb,we must now pass a test before we are qualified to vote

No More Palin   November 16th, 2009 1:46 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a quitter, she is not qualified for any office and the press should not give her any credence (Except Fox, we know they love her). She is not relevant.

Fola   November 16th, 2009 1:44 pm ET

Only in America. I wonder why media still give this lady the chance to blow hot air!!!! This woman can even be a manager in a fast food restaurant!!!!! I think Congress needs to create a policy or law about who should write a book or not!!! I think this freedom thing is getting out of hand...............geezzzzz!!!!! Palin go and take care of your family

Michelle   November 16th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

No kidding? She's not qualified to run the PTA.

Jack Fl   November 16th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

Its amazing the # of Republicans who think she is qualified. It reminds me of a married couple I know who agree on every thing. Seems to me that only one of them is doing the thinking.

Nea   November 16th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

First of all i dont think she is even trying to run anyway i really think she like whats she is already doing because that her way of getting the attention she likes by speeches and sitting down with talk show hosts and other things so she wont be criticized as much.

uncle ellsworthey   November 16th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

I would venture a guess that three years before the last election most folks would have said that Obama was not qualified to be President either. Just shows how meaningful this particular poll is, a lot can change in three years so it's way too premature to mean anything.
Oh by the way, folks elected someone who wasn't qualified in the last election so apparently qualifications mean very little.

Reny   November 16th, 2009 1:43 pm ET

I hope she runs because the repubs like Romney will shred her during the primaries.

Faye   November 16th, 2009 1:42 pm ET

If a man had the "presence" of Palin and answered questions like she does, we would never have voted for him. If McCain/Palin had been elected and something had happened to McCain we would have had Palin for President. Really and truly that would have been an appalling mess for everyone. She might be ok in other circumstances but not in politics. No elected representative should quit in mid-term unless convicted for a crime. No one wants an elected official who won't follow through on their sworn commitment.

Dickson Shreffler   November 16th, 2009 1:41 pm ET

SURPRISE !!!! ...3 in 10 Americans not qualified to vote....How could anyone see her as quaified for anything....

Joe Martin   November 16th, 2009 1:41 pm ET

And to think that these are the same idiots who elected Barrack Hussein Obama...

can we be honest here?   November 16th, 2009 1:40 pm ET

She's not qualified to run a state.
not qualified to run a campaign.
not qualified to lead a group of diverse people anywhere.

But she is qualified to scare the BeeJesus out of sane hardworking Americans who believe in the destiny of this Country.

she should just be a judge on "American Idol". That would suit her well.

Lexer   November 16th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

Regardless how you feel about Sarah Palin, think about what's in office now. A community organizer???? From a community where kids are being killed on the streets daily? Obama is a joke! Get real.

R   November 16th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

No matter what your party affiliation, Palin has proven herself to be unintelligent, unknowledgable, and unwilling to work with others. She blames everyone else for her woes, but they have been brought on by herself. She wants privacy for her family but she wants to tell other families how to live. She's a hypocrite, and has dillusions about her abilities.

Dennis   November 16th, 2009 1:39 pm ET

Why are we wasting time doing polls like this? Of course, she is not qualified and only those with a half a brain would think so. We really need to focus on the problems that have been generated over the past eight years and find construction solutions to them. Spouting hate and acting like a drama queen is not a qualification and will not solve any issues. But then there are a few who can only relate to a soap opera mentality.

Bob in Pa   November 16th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

We understand that Mr. Steinhauser cannot stand Ms. Palin.

Pol watcher   November 16th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

Absolutely, Hillary is qualified to be President, second to none! I'd vote for her in a heartbeat! I just wish she was President NOW...... or at least VP.

Debra Hasan   November 16th, 2009 1:38 pm ET

Tell me something I didn't know.

Rich   November 16th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

Oh look, another Sarah Palin story. What's that, three, four today?

CNN... get a room!

Barbara   November 16th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

Go Hillary!

Doc in Virginia   November 16th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

As her stock falls, her popularity plummets, her ideas ridiculed by more in the GOP and her "People Magazine" existence keeps playing out into the news, she will just become another wreck on the political lanscape. Yes, she will reap a lot of money and raise some as well, but her base will shrink and when it comes time to start ramping up for 2012, she will wither under Huckabee, and Romney's verbal assault. If she couldnt handle Katie Couric, and she couldnt, or else she would just shut up about it already, then she is in for some serious skin peeling from those two men. Add Pawlenty, who needs the base, and her demise will come even sooner. Her fortune wont hold out anymore either when she cant earn those big paydays and her husband wont get hired back where he quit. Opportunism is fleeting and thy name for now is Palin.

Democrat No More   November 16th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

Skewed polling will always get the results you want. Poll 7 democrats and 3 Republicans and shazaam you get this result. Who do you, NBC, NYT, etc. think you are fooling?

Steve, New York City   November 16th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

She could scarcely handle governing Alaska, or getting interviewed by Katie Couric. What makes anyone believe that she is qualified to be president?

Deedee   November 16th, 2009 1:36 pm ET

Ya Think!!!

Brian   November 16th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

A CNN poll that makes Gov. Palin look bad and Hillary look good.... KNOCK ME OVER WITH A FEATHER!!!! Might as well get the N.Y. Times to poll who their readers would pull for in a game between the Yankees and the Red Sox, and then let them put their earth shattering results on the front page of their web site!

Don   November 16th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Ok CNN, you need to change the name of this section from “Political Ticker” to what it’s really become which is “Palin Ticker”. Zzzzzzz.

Jimmy D   November 16th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

Who is surprised by this poll ??? She will sell few books, line her pocket, and go away to live the American Dream.... That's all folks!

James Michael Roberson   November 16th, 2009 1:35 pm ET

I don't understand how a majority of republicans can honestly believe after all that has happened that S Palin is qualified to be the president. Of course there are not that many people who still call themselves republicans. Sarah Palin is going to slowly fade away into obscurity.

mjm   November 16th, 2009 1:34 pm ET

CNN just can't stop itself. The same story over and over about Palin.

How many times does CNN have to ask the same people the same question?

SGJ   November 16th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

What a relief that most of America can she her for what she really is... the personification of the term "bimbo" or "airhead"...

saftgek   November 16th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

Ms. Palin is no more qualified to serve as President of the U.S. than I am to perform brain surgery!

It is extremely depressing to know there is a relatively high percentage of voters who genuinely believe Ms. Palin has executive leadership skills.

Far more descriptive of Ms. Palin are: functonally illiterate, geographically & politically ignorant, failed parent, ad nauseum.

People of our country need to take voting seriously, and look past their own emotionally-charged biases. President Obama is far from perfect in his professional and personal life. With that said, Ms. Palin's abilities strongly pale by comparison.

BTW: I concur with the assessment of Secretary Clinton being far more qualified for the Oval Office than Sarah Palin – by a long way!

Rob   November 16th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

It's not so much that she just isn't qualified, but that she is simply too stupid to realize it.

Palin/Bachmann 2012   November 16th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

What do you mean not qualified? Sarah is the only one who can lead to a conservative victory over the looney libs.

John in AZ   November 16th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

Sometimes statistics help to illustrate what is absolutely obvious to anyone with a modicum of common sense. Palin was never ready, and because she refuses to learn from, or re-assess, her limitations, she may NEVER be ready.

Independent in Arizona   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

54 percent of Republicans think Sarah Palin is qualified to be president? How ignorant can you be!

ck   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

And most Americans now realize that Obama is not qualified to serve as president.

D. Tree   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

Ya' think?

No matter, it won't make a difference to the fringe few who follow her – they are so deluded they think they are the only "Real Americans."

jafs3   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

I am sorry Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. I am sorry you have to be compared to this woman. The only woman the Republicans will accept is a not-so educated beauty queen. Shows where their minds are at.

Tom   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

How could anyone, anywhere think this woman is qualified to be president??? Have you not seen the interviews with Couric? And if you think she was treated unfairly (all Katie did was ask her questions) by Couric watch any interview she does. Does she ever come off as having an IQ over 100? There are definitely women in this country qualified to be president but Palin is certainly not one of them. The Republican Party could enhance their standing by telling her to go home and shut up.

Ronald Schwartz   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

most democrats would not like her. but she would put obama to shame and also clinton, when it comes to freedom and protecting our right especially the second amendment.

Kathryn   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

All further articles about Sarah Palin should be in the Entertainment section rather than Politics. She is certainly good for amusement.

joel   November 16th, 2009 1:31 pm ET

Ummmmmmm....

If Mrs. Palin isn't QUALIFIED after her stint as Gov. of Alsaka to be President...

How is our current President qualified???

Look at his political back ground people....

These are some troubling times for sure.

Troubled Independent   November 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

The only way I'd vote for a democrat again is if/when Hillary runs.

She is 100% more qualified than obammie!

dennisk   November 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

And we needed a poll to figure this one out? Sarah Palin isn't qualified to be President (an utterly frightening thought), she wasn't qualifed to be Vice-President (and McCain knew it, but went along with his party bosses anyway), and she wasn't qualified to be Governor–not even of Alaska (which she proved by resigning before her "service" was completed).
I wouldn't vote for Sarah Palin for my local school board.

Eli   November 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

I have a hard time believing one in ten Democrats think Palin is qualified to run the White House. Are 10% of Dems really that clueless or maybe they thought the question was cut and run from the White House half way through the term?

Chris ~ Albany, NY   November 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

Wow..where have the smarts come from? People are actually waking up and realizing that this woman is grossly underqualified to be Pres or VP!

Richard   November 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

Palin couldn't keep her own house in order. How could she manage the nation? She's a good looking woman, though. I'll give her that. If the camera likes her, does that equate to wisdom in the White House? I think not.

LYNETTE IN CA   November 16th, 2009 1:30 pm ET

Why is this question even polled?
It's a well known fact that we're EXTREMELY LUCKY that Palin isn't a heartbeat away from the Presidency!

Pee Wee   November 16th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

Give it about six months and Barack's numbers will be mirroring Palin's.

I was watching a show this weekend and one of the guests was the poster child for the left. Health Care was the topic and several panelists pointed out estimates and numbers put forth by this administration, as well as from prior administrations, that were so far off that one figures the guy at the county fair guessing weights would be imminently qualified to run the CBO. After several illustrations, the one panelist still said that this healthcare package won't come in over budget. Time and again when asked to justify her response, she simply resorted to the "Obama said it would be deficit neutral" line.

I'm voting for the carny next time around!

Mariann Pepitone   November 16th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

Most Americans in the polls are from this younger generation and mainly Democrats that of course will say she isn't qualified. I believe she is more poplar than Obama who has lost his touch. And after that book is sold she will be getting more interviews and more speaking requests. That is going to rock the Democratic party because they don't have anyone else to run for president but Obama and if Palin runs she will give him a run for his money. Of course the college students won't vote for her because they are heavy drinkers, smokers and some take drugs which she is against. Obama did that in college himself and the students feel right at home with him. But there is a chance that she would win. No one knows the future.

Scott   November 16th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

Run, baby, run. Give the GOP your kiss of death!!!

A. Smith, Oregon   November 16th, 2009 1:29 pm ET

Surveys and Primarys, ALL Democrates should vote for Palin-Cheney as the Republican Ticket.

President Obama is going to need 2 terms to undue much of the mess created by Bush-Cheney previously.

So GO PALIN, Yeah you speak for the Republican Party.

Palin-Rush or Palin-Cheney, GREAT, go for it!

CBR   November 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

Goodness. When will the polling stop. We are all sick and tired of polls!

Sarah Palin has written a book and that is all. Leave the subject and move on to some other subject that is important to our country.

Brian from NJ   November 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

SEVEN Palin stories on the ticker today? Members of the "American Association of Sarah Palin Haters" must be drooling, I wonder if their email warning system could handle sending out all those alerts... and it is funny how they will all say "Go Away" but are the first ones to come to this blog...

Chris   November 16th, 2009 1:28 pm ET

What a deceiving headline. Where was the poll taken, NYC or LA.? I would believe that, since people who populate those two cities are out of touch with the rest of the country. Dosent mean they are ignorant people, just rather different from the rest of America.

Palin is so incredibly popular right now–and will be for a few years to come–she better run for president next time around while the country is so enamored with her.

She is the only candidate I find trustworthy.

Florence   November 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

I’m really glad to see that only 28% of Americans are stupid. I always thought the numbers were much higher. So there is still “HOPE” people.

kelley   November 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

So what if that's true! She was more qualified than obama. Atleast she had done more than just being a community organizer! Its funny that she is going to sell more books than our president did when he published his! Haha

qualifier   November 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

and Barack Obama is qualified to be president? What experience running ANYTHING did Barack or Hillary have that is so much more extensive than Sarah Palin's experience? This is a result of her beatdown from the elite liberal media. Obama and Clinton know nothing more about running the country than Sarah Palin does.....regardless of what the media thinks. Hillary has been around the fringes of politics until this year. Obama voted present for a few years while he was writing books and campaigning......let's get someone in office that's about US and not about ME.

Clinton is power hungry, Obama is an egomaniac.....

James Brooklyn N.Y.   November 16th, 2009 1:27 pm ET

Run Palin run. You are the best the republicans have to offer

Ha Ha Ha.

Jayden,FL   November 16th, 2009 1:26 pm ET

PLEASE STOP wasting your time doing polls on this woman! We all already know shes NOT qualified to be President!

Mariann Pepitone   November 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

I don't always believe the polls because most taken are from democrats. Plus the news media and many of the public are very jealous of Palin along with the majority of college students. They fear her running for the presidency and beating out Obama who can barely run this country let alone not make decisions on war. Yes, Hillary should have won the nomination for the presidency but people like Pelosi, Reid and the former DNC Dean swindled her out of her votes to give them to Obama and Pelosi demanded the superdelegates to vote Obama because she didn't want Hillary to become president. Pelosi wants to be the woman in charge but she didn't know that Hillary would become Secretary of State. We need the republicans to take back the house and rid us of Pelosi and Reid. Palin is a very smart woman and that's what its all about. And she will get more popular as the months go by. Joe Biden is not presidential material, not even VP material but Michele Obama didn't want Hillary chosen. Jealousy reeks within her.

Jeff Brown in Jersey   November 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

This is a surprise?

W l Jones   November 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

Whether she is or isn^t qualified for the office, it appears she is the spoke person for the Republican party as of now.!

panem et circensus   November 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

Now up to 7, count 'em, 7 stories with Palin as the headline.

Gin up the base, much?

Kevin Quail   November 16th, 2009 1:23 pm ET

She's not qualified to serve as a White House janitor.

Joe   November 16th, 2009 1:22 pm ET

How much is Palin paying CNN for all this media coverage?

Opine form Oregon   November 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Palin is pale on most things that Americans demand. Americans demand answers to problems which her party induced. Most Americans want answers to why the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are off-budget items needed to be paid for later and not now! George W. Bush got his war he always wanted. He allowed Wall Street to get drunk as he claimed Wall Street did get because he placed the bottle in front of them to do so, not a good idea for driving this nation into a ditch. A drunk driver going into a ditch isn't news because the obvious lack of proper decision making for the decider was errant. We do not need another brainless individual at the helm of government to allow such to occur too soon after the occurrence. Palin offers another Titanic ship captain to be swayed into bad decisions or no decisions due to the icebergs of bad decisions that will come her way. George W. Bush is THE quintessential character that Palin matches to and it is much too soon to allow more mismanagement this close to the last mismanagement of the George W. Bush administration.

Lynn   November 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Palin is just dumb!! What more has to be said???

Ted   November 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Why is the result of the poll that Palin isn't qualified to be prez a suprise? I still don't understand how she got to be governor of Alaska. It is amazing.

Steph   November 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Why do somone feel it necessary to continue to do this same poll over and over again? Does anyone think she is more qualified now than the last time a large majority of US citizens said they don't think she is even remotely qualified for the job of President of the United States? I'm so sick of the constant media attention this bimbo gets!

inofritzn   November 16th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

Nothing short of pathetic CNN. Does your big brain-trust there all have hypothetical polling degrees? Seems to be the only thing you guys can do.

Susan   November 16th, 2009 1:20 pm ET

And most Americans got Obama elected...ugh

Polls are what screwed this country up to begin with!

Richard L   November 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

Republicans just don't catch on. They'd rather live in a world of fantasy and immaginary conspiracies against them. Let's hear their spin on the liberal press that supposedly doesn't like women.

Tithian   November 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

CNN should post something about Sarah Palin.

Joan Jacobs   November 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

Please IGNORE Palin then she will go away. Please allow her to go back to the woods to kill something, and leave society alone for good.

tonyh110   November 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

Obama is also far from qualified to President as is showing, but we gave him a chance. Only fair she gets a chance too!

Steve in Ct   November 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

Sure she may be almost as unqualified as Obama but she has experience to work from. He has a 1/2 term as a senator and was a community organizer before that. She was Commander In Chief of the State Of Alaska, mayor (in itself beyond community organizer), energy czar making great things come the way of Alaskans from big oil etc.. Obama wouldn't be where he is without ACORN. Enough said?

JonDie   November 16th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

You had to take a poll to find out the Palin is not qualified to be president? This is like doing research into football players...in order to discover that brain concussions lead to dementia.

CitizenAJ   November 16th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

Did we really need to conduct a poll to determine how Americans viewed the readiness of Sarah Palin as President? Didn't they do that last November 4th? Wasn't it clear doing the Couric interview? Man, a lot of time spent on this woman when you good be doing something to better mankinds existence or reporting positive stories that get overlooked, left out of the media because they are TOO NICE. This is ridiculous. What does this woman offer this nation except division?

Corbett   November 16th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

Oh snap! Palin got trounced by somebody who didn't even make it out of the primary. That means that she is less qualified to be president than somebody who is not qualified to be president.

Matt   November 16th, 2009 1:16 pm ET

Hillary 2012!

54% of Republicans think Palin is qualified to be President? Someone made up that number, because 54% of Republicans aren't that stupid.

richard miller   November 16th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

She isn't qualified to run as a dog catcher let alone the office of President. Go get lost in the wilds of Alaska and leave the rest of us alone!

marissa   November 16th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

CNN should rename itself the "lets publish every little thing we possibly can on Sara Palin." When she sneezes lets put it on the ticker. Hey, she read a book, lets put it on the ticker. She went to bed, People she went to bed we have to get this on the ticker right away.
Don't get me wrong I'm not against reporting geniune stories about Sarah Palin but this is getting rediculous(sp).

Mark   November 16th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

The more Palin opens her mouth, the more less qualified she becomes. She's only in it for the money and to bash some heads. Typical politician.

DT   November 16th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

This shouldnt be a surprise...

Shirley In California   November 16th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

I very seldom read the ticker anymore. This constant "lust" CNN has for this woman is ridiculous. While I know nothing would please her small circle of supporters more than not having to read about the stupid things she says and does because they are so embarrassed of her – I am sick of her, her family, her opinions, her face, her dumbness, ..well, you get the message. In short, I'm sick of her!

stuartx   November 16th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

funny thing is that PBO is not qualified either.

CTSadler   November 16th, 2009 1:15 pm ET

In a recent poll of CNN's ticker, 6 of 18 stories featured politainer Sarah Palin. CNN, in your struggle to seem neither left nor right-wing, you've settled for a People Magazine-esque middle ground.

more so then what we have now

conniesz   November 16th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

thank you.

Death Panel Sarah   November 16th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

Honest and trustworthy???? Who did they ask?
Certainly not anyone who has heard her speak about death panels, seeing Russia from her house, etc., etc.,....the list goes on and on!
Certainly not her ex-brother-in-law or ex-son-in(almost)-law!!!!

TM in CO   November 16th, 2009 1:13 pm ET

Come on CNN. Report on something that the majority of Americans don't already know. She obviously knew she wasn't qualified to run anything bigger than her little hometoown. That's probably why she quit as Governor.

James Pfeiffer   November 16th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

The fact that even 28% believe Palin to be qualified is, at best, extremely unsettling. I don't care what your political leanings are, whether they be conservative or liberal, intelligent, clear-thinking individuals know that she is a joke. In a time when the world is far more unpredictable than ever before, when some countries are on the wane and some surging toward economic mega-powers, when crazies and terrorists are a mainstay of everyday life, we need, more than ever before, a clear-thinking, global persona to sail these dangerous waters. The people who actually believe the likes of a Palin could do this are the same people who might let their children hand-feed peanuts to a bear.

tc campbell   November 16th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

Pleaseeeeee! stop covering Sarah Palin!!!!

Tom St. Paul   November 16th, 2009 1:12 pm ET

A lesson for the Neocons here: Don't confuse noteriety with quality.

Tom St. Paul   November 16th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

7 out of 10 say she is not qualified. Admit it, Neocons! Despite all your noise and all the media coverage you get, you just can't convince the American voter to vote agianst the best interests of his country.

James B   November 16th, 2009 1:11 pm ET

Sad to see that this person who quit her position as a Govenor of a state thinks she is qualified to run a higher gov position. I think people may have looked at her differently if she had stayed on and not quit. As for the dispairity in the percentage I believe it just runs down party lines. I can say without a doubt that if she was a DEM the GOP would feel the same as the Dems do now.

Dee   November 16th, 2009 1:10 pm ET

So, how can Obama be qualified? He's never run anything before this. Palin has and quite successfully. I will give Obama credit for running something now: He's running our country into the ground.
