Palin would be 'catastrophic' for the GOP, Plouffe said.
Palin would be 'catastrophic' for the GOP, Plouffe said.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Barack Obama's former campaign manager and John McCain's former campaign manager agree: Sarah Palin would be "catastrophic" for Republicans if she is the party's presidential nominee in 2012.

Steve Schmidt, McCain's former campaign head, first made the assertion in October, telling a Washington audience that the GOP "could have a catastrophic election result" if Palin wins the Republican nomination.

David Plouffe, Obama's 2008 campaign manager, echoed Schmidt's remark in a newly published interview with The New Yorker.

"I think it would be catastrophic for them to nominate her," Plouffe said, according to the November 16 issue of the magazine. "A lot can change, but I doubt she'll run. Right now, in terms of her ability to sell books and get speaking fees and just go out there and be a prominent voice in the Republican Party, she's at a pretty high level. But if you run a race you're going to get nicked up and you may fall from grace."

Looking at the possible GOP lineup in 2012, Plouffe also advised against betting on the usual suspects like Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee. He said to keep an eye out for a fresher face.

"We ought to learn from the Obama experience that someone can come out, not someone you've never heard of but someone who you just didn't think would run for president," he told the magazine.

Another former Democratic presidential campaign manager, James Carville, appeared on CNN's "American Morning" Monday and mischievously urged Palin to seek the White House.

"I think the most important thing is, run, baby, run," Carville said. "Look, this kind of entertainment can't be beat. I'm serious. It's fun talking about this. She's a complete hoot. She's got a charming - she's got an interesting story. You know what I mean."

Those who prefer palin to Obama as President must be off their meds.

windrider   November 16th, 2009 2:55 pm ET

It's a little soon to be predicting catastrophe if Palin is the GOP Presidential candidate. And it depends on who's defining the term. The far right has made it clear that their priority is to purge the Republican Party of anyone to the left of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, and they don't care if they lose elections in the process. Ideological purity is their primary goal, and nominating Palin would achieve it. Beyond 2012, however, if they cannot win elections at the national level and if their ideology drives away independents (remember, they WANT to drive away moderates), the GOP will devolve to a small radical regional party. This is not good for the country and it's not even good for Democrats because God love us, we mean well but we lack party discipline and are prone to doing really dumb things when there's no credible challenge from a strong second party.

DJ in TX   November 16th, 2009 2:53 pm ET

It is time to move on. As long as the media keeps giving Ms. Palin airtime, she'll continue to make more money. Despite what some are saying, I think that's her ambition right now. Personally, I wouldn't read the book if my life depended on it. But I do believe Mr. Ploufe and Mr. Schmidt, this would not be good for the GOP. She'll gain the base or the furtherst of the right, but she has also alienated independents. Look at the polls that came out today, around 25% of independents think she's qualified. Hell, only 54% of those who say they are Republicans think she's qualified. Quitting the governoship before her fist term was not good. She's never been abroad (except to speak at a closed door gathering) or met foreign dignataries. What would she know about foreign policy? Anyway, if the GOP does put her up, the Dems win easily.

Skee   November 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

We know what Sarah Palin is about......

It's her supporters that confuse me, their so Robotic in their support of her, they're more PATHETIC than Sarah Palin.......

ib42   November 16th, 2009 2:52 pm ET

PLEASE run, Sarah! Let's see exactly how many idiots there really are who would vote for you!

Moderate Democrat   November 16th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

"Remember she did not have the 4 years to prepare, yet she eclipsed MCain in the a very short time. With the right preparation, she could run and win. But if I was her, I keep kicking the left and pander my book."
------------------------------
That would suggest she needs time to 'rehearse' her policies or beliefs? That would suggest that her FIVE colleges didn't 'prepare' her or she wasn't paying attention for the FORTY PLUS years of her life?

So, how many years, beyond forty, does she require? I would just like to know from a Palin Supporter, how unqualified she really is. The rest of us already know the answer...."TOTALLY UNQUALIFIED"......but it's nice to see one of her supporters admit it, even if it is in a inadvertent way.

Pete   November 16th, 2009 2:50 pm ET

Why any news agency continues to give this woman any air time is beyond me. She is the biggest joke of the last decade and still, still people are giving her air time.....it is just a sad indicator of what this country's values are....

HJA   November 16th, 2009 2:49 pm ET

I think she' perfect..."Mister speaker , I wish to nominate that great Alaskan Sarah Palin for president.".....Has a nice ring doen't it?

(Please please please please) Don't want to disappoint PalinLvr ;-)

Joan   November 16th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

I hope she runs. It will make for great SNL skits again. She will only help the Democrats. By the way CNN, today you have spent most of your time covering Palin and showing clips of Guiliani trashing the New York justice and law enforcement systems who he thinks can't handle the trials of the detainees. Shameful. Your President is overseas making great speeches and meeting important world leaders which will impact on the economic future of us all. Which stories should get priority coverage? It's a no brainer.

walleye   November 16th, 2009 2:47 pm ET

It’s bad enough when the opposition thinks you are an idiot, but when your own party thinks you would be catastrophic is time to step out of the limelight.

mjm   November 16th, 2009 2:46 pm ET

Three more years of this Administration and the GOP could run Octo-mom and win.

Worry about your own party...Not the GOP and Palin.

p   November 16th, 2009 2:45 pm ET

If Palin becomes the Republican presidential candidate, it would no doubt reduce what's left of the new phony conservative wing of the GOP to the ash heap of history.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks.

Hopefully we will always know the difference between an American presidential election and an episode of American Idol.

Hey Ms. Palin!
I say RUN BABY, RUN!!

J.P.   November 16th, 2009 2:42 pm ET

Yeah, we voted for Democrat-lite in the last election.

I'd like a REAL alternative in 2012... bold colors, no pale pastels.

Proud American Lib   November 16th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

Why would this woman ever run for President?

As this unofficial, populist voice of "real" conservatism, she doesn't actually have to produce any results of any kind, ever. She's like Rush and Hannity, needing to do little more than pontificate and poo-poo from the sidelines to stay the darling of the rootin'-tootin'-moose-shootin' set.

If she runs, EVERYONE gets to see all the warts, and you can be certain there are plenty. If she doesn't, she stands to gain more money than her mediocrity could ever justify otherwise. Why risk it?

Lol   November 16th, 2009 2:40 pm ET

It's incredible that there are Americans who actually like Sarah Palin. The ignorant fools don't know any better. This country has gone to hell, thanks to the rednecks.

I can't wait to move to a country where idiots like Palin aren't treated like viable presidential candidates. The sheer stupidity of it blows my mind.

Angy-OH   November 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

sarah would be great for the gop 2012 ticket. so great the President Obama wouldn't have to spend 1 min. on the campaign trail. he could just continue to clean up the mess left by the other great gop president. LOL.

Angie in PA   November 16th, 2009 2:37 pm ET

Please oh I hope so that would give us President Obama another 4 years so I say go for it Sara!!

felicia   November 16th, 2009 2:36 pm ET

What is the hang up with saying President Obama is blaming bush for this and that. Guess what he messed the country up to the fifth power. The only way we' getting out of this is by the Power of God. He is the only one that can save us now. President Obama was just put in place as a resource, to help guide people through. Obama 2012

George Guadiane - Austerlitz, NY   November 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

If I were Ms Palin (God forbid) I wouldn't take advice or consider evaluations made by David Plouffe any more than I would expect President Obama to take whatever Rush Limpballs has to say about him and his administration...

Having said THAT, I find it interesting that LOTS of people on her side of the asile, including/especially people who worked most closely, for the longest period of time, on the NATIONAL stage agree with him.

From my exposure to her, allowing for the possibility that the coverage is one sided, I find it AMAZING that 28 people out of 100 think of her as a capable President... Based on?

Bob   November 16th, 2009 2:32 pm ET

I actually think that Palin is playing this very smart. She is not looking to be the next president, but rather the next Rush Limbagh. That man got $400,000,000.00 to host his show and Sarah is moving forward with a similar goal in mind. She knows that she cannot win the presidency, but she can become rich beyond belief.

Tram   November 16th, 2009 2:30 pm ET

Bad for the GOP, but great for the Democrats!

Randy, San Francisco   November 16th, 2009 2:29 pm ET

Palin repesents the GOP's delusion that their party represents the majority of Americans. The GOP is stuck in the past and will not accept a new political reality and landscape much different from the Reagan years.

skyeyesds   November 16th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

The Only thing Reps.have is the word " NO". Two letters and that explains why they have NOTHING to offer the American People. Even down to Obama bowing to Japans Emperor. That shows respect to their (Japans) customs. Never in my life have I seen or heard so much negativity in the republicans corner. Give it up.!
And furthermore Obama is NOT Illegitimate. Get out your dictionary.

Tom   November 16th, 2009 2:23 pm ET

midwest liberal   November 16th, 2009 2:20 pm ET

Palin is the best GOP spokesperson ever. She's a hoot and we love to laugh at her constant insert foot in mouth remarks.

James Michael Roberson   November 16th, 2009 2:15 pm ET

Sarah Palin for president? A catastrophe? Not for America no not at all, we need to keep the office of the presidency in the hands of the democrats in order to straighten out the mess from last idiot the republicans sent up there.

victoria suominen   November 16th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

Palin should run for President and that birdbrain Michelle Steele should be her Vice President running mate. Stupid and Fascist all on one ticket. A GOP dream!

Tek   November 16th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

This talk about Palin being the 2012 republican presidential candidate has to end because like all polls say, the majority think she is unqualified. If the GOP is serious about real qualified candidates then they should focus more on politicians like Bob Mcdonnell. I think this is why Cnn sucks sometimes because they keep talking like Palin actually has a chance. She's become a Limbaugh or a Beck. They're all popular within their base but that's it.

Fed Up   November 16th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Leiberman/Palin as an Independent ticket would be very interesting with the attitude of the people right now.

Republican'ts are so YESTERDAY   November 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

I couldn't agree more, but the Republican'ts seem to be unable to do anything to help their own party these days and seem completely uninterested in doing anything to help the country! I think it would be great if they kept going the same way they've been going . . . .in other words, PLEASE let Sarah run! In fact, how about Cheney as her running mate??!!!

GI Joe   November 16th, 2009 1:59 pm ET

We could even see Bachmann as Sec. of State.

WOW !!!

it will be interesting to see her meeting the heads of states.i think i will crawl and be so embarresed.

Some of you people really need to listen to yourselves speak. Do you honestly think ANYONE is afraid of this woman campaigning? Did you sleep through the last election? Do you have to go to school to learn that kind of stupidity??

The Dude   November 16th, 2009 1:51 pm ET

Please, get real. Palin is no threat to Obama or any other Democrat. In fact, she is the Democrat's dream. She bring so much baggage with her that she will doom any party that she represents. The biggest fear among Democrats is that she will change to their side.

Susan   November 16th, 2009 1:51 pm ET

Palin isn't planning to run in 2012. She's said it herself and if you think about it, it's true: she's said that she's finding that you don't need a title to make a difference.

In fact being tied to a title, will hinder your ability to speak your mind and restrict your actions.

Democrat for Palin Primary   November 16th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

You idiot Plouffe, say she would be great so we can run against her! duh!

Bill from CA   November 16th, 2009 1:37 pm ET

As a Democrat and Obama supporter, I would LOVE to see Sarah Palin run. Remember, Dems...stuff the caucus and primary ballots for her in 2012 like the GOP did in 2008 to try and prolong the Obama/Hillary contest.

LYNETTE IN CA   November 16th, 2009 1:33 pm ET

Stop saying that she'd be "catastrophic." Please let her run so the repugs can flat out implode!

Shadysider   November 16th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

She makes Dan Quayle look like a genius. While she was able to bring out all the social conservatives and the anti-government types, she also was the straw that broke the camel's back when it comes to pushing moderate Republicans and strictly fiscal conservatives away from the party, making them think that the Republican Party was nothing more than a place for social conservatives to congregate. Sure, I can understand her message of limiting government's intrusion on our lives, but first, then why is she against OTHER people having abortions? and second, her interviews and world-view show a lack of knowledge about world affairs and history, and her vindictive and victimhood attitude alike serve to turn people away from her.

A. Smith, Oregon   November 16th, 2009 1:32 pm ET

Palin would be a great GOP nominee. Go Palin!

President Obama is going to need 2 full terms to undue many of the problems and illegal practices of the Bush-Cheney White House.

Palin's a lot more fun than some ole Morman Mitt

Germantown, TN

Mike   November 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

The liberal media will continue to push Sarah to the front page in an attempt to make her the voice of the GOP. Even her running in the primary would be huge in dividing the angry hateful undeducated GOP from the moderate even tempered educated GOP.

McCain nominating Sarah Palin is the gift for democrats that just keeps on giving.

You will know the party is over when the liberal media finally lets this beauty queen slip to the back pages.

JonDie   November 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

The problem with such a prediction is that in the past the American people have come out of their drug-induced stupor long enough...to elect the likes of George W. Bush. And no, even Sarah Palin doesn't make George W. Bush look intelligent.

vette gal   November 16th, 2009 1:21 pm ET

Please CNN, enough coverage of this poor excuse for an intelligent woman. I, for one, am tired of hearing about this train wreck.

Matthew in Wisconsin   November 16th, 2009 1:18 pm ET

I have to agree with James Carville, Palin is a 'hoot" and she has been a blessing for the Democrats. While I can't stand her.. I really enjoy reading about her. Remember when Brittney Spears had her wacko public melt down. I can't stand Spears either, but I read all the stories I came across. Now if Palin would get drunk and get drunk and expose her private parts for every camera around... well I'd most likely read that story too. However that is about where America rates her. On par with Brittney Spears, entertainment wise . You betcha!

Drew   November 16th, 2009 1:17 pm ET

If Palin runs for President we might as well be fighing in Iraq. This women doesn't have a clue as to how to run her own house hold not let alone a country. Oh I am bad. Of course, we Democrats would love to have that airhead Palin run for President. She couldn't get up to speed on the international front or even the domestic issues that need to be fixed in the next 3 years under any circumstances. She is too dimwitted. You can't fix stupid.

Obama has his plate full for sure thank's to the mess he inherited from Bush/Cheney, but he is working hard and making progress. He hasn't been President for a year yet and has done more positive work in 10 months than Bush did in 8 years. Keep up the good work, Mr. President.

Terry from West Texas   November 16th, 2009 1:03 pm ET

I strongly support a Palin-Romney team for the Republican 2012 nomination. Palin is such a loose cannon that she will create one public relations disaster after another. Romney is smart and capable (even though he's Conservative), but the Mormon thing will alienate the southern fundamentalist Christian base. The two of them should go down to a monumental defeat. We need a Republican disaster, like 1964. This will bring a strong Liberal Congress into office so we can finally get some work done in Washington.

Go, Sarah, go!

Sean   November 16th, 2009 12:55 pm ET

Some people urge Palin to run in order to ensure an easy reelection for Obama, but I personally hope she NEVER runs. I simply can't feel comfortable with even the most remote possibility that Palin get anywhere near a position as powerful as President of the United States. It would be an absolute disaster that our country, and probably our world, simply wouldn't recover from for generations. Find a QUALIFIED Republican candidate please!

Stacy   November 16th, 2009 12:53 pm ET

One thing about that republican party that you have to pay attention to...this is the same party that brought Bush upon the world. It would have been nearly impossible to rival that lousy choice or at least I thought...until Palin showed up. She may well be worse then Bush. The republicans may have actually found the ONE person who could be worse then Bush!!! That they are even considering it or that over 40% of them think she is qualified is further example that the party has been so damaged by Bush and then Obama that they havent the sensibility of a house plant.

Agreed   November 16th, 2009 12:52 pm ET

Robert   November 16th, 2009 12:46 pm ET

Nobody wants a Quitter-in-chief.

30 Year Veteran   November 16th, 2009 12:45 pm ET

Wouldn't you think these two would be a little biased. Especially since McCain still has ambitions of the Presidency as does Obama for a secoun term (No way hosea). She is way more qualified than the no SALUTE FOR AMERICA OBAMA. WHo by the way will not wear the American flag. He ought to be impeached just for that.

Fan of Common Sense   November 16th, 2009 12:43 pm ET

I love Sarah Palin and she would most certainly be a better president than we currently have, but I hope the republicans do not make the mistake of nominating her for the head of the ticket in 2012. What a godsend for Obama? That's probably the ONLY WAY he could win re-election.

Phil - IN   November 16th, 2009 12:42 pm ET

Right on Carville...Actually, I think a combination of James Carville and Paul Begala is pretty good entertainment as well.

PEC   November 16th, 2009 12:41 pm ET

WHy would Republicans take advise from a Democrat?

Eric   November 16th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Catastrophic? That's putting it mildly.

Mani   November 16th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

Carville said it all – "run baby run". She can be the only entertainment in otherwise boring presedential contest. May be she will act smart this time around, if atall she contests – but thats not going to be easy for her over 3-5 month period of active campaigining. And that will generate tons of interesting, funny stories. "run baby run". That will also let Obama concentrate on the white house, without having to bother much about campaigning.

Eric   November 16th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

As a democrat, I think she would be great!! Go Sarah Go!!

Pee Wee   November 16th, 2009 12:40 pm ET

"We ought to learn from the Obama experience that someone can come out, not someone you've never heard of but someone who you just didn't think would run for president," he told the magazine.

One thing I agree with Plouffe on. But, from the looks of some of the blog posts here from the Obama Admiration Society, I doubt we will learn.

I think he changing would to should in Plouffe's statement makes it more precise.

Cindy   November 16th, 2009 12:38 pm ET

Been there, done that. She's done. She's yesterday's news, like Jon and Kate, and Balloon Boy.

Regarding the Faux News supporters on the Obama Twitter: Nobody's censoring Faux. They can continue to broadcast, they're just not news. They're pure propaganda. Especially the way they over-hype the Tea Parties. They act like retailers hyping aTea Party Day to sell more Hallmark cards, or flowers. They don't report news, they create it.

beth   November 16th, 2009 12:36 pm ET

As a Democrat, I'll be praying that she gets the nomination with Kate Gosselin as her running mate.

wait a minute   November 16th, 2009 12:35 pm ET

Although I am all for a female candidate, Palin would be the worst candidate. It would be an easy ride for President Obama. I like him but I want him to be seriously challenged, too. Then he will come out stronger a leader than his first term.

Lrogers91107   November 16th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

Palin would be great in 2012 GO OBAMA!!!

sifto77   November 16th, 2009 12:34 pm ET

Seems Obama administration will go to any length to persecute and blame Pres Bush for their own failures. What other explanation could there be for making sure the world's worst terrorist will have a chance to tell his story and possibly go free? Obama has already told the world he was tortured. Is that not grounds for a "not guilty verdict? Wake up America......pray for NY residents.....

rhl   November 16th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

She should have stayed on as Governor of Alaska. Then she would have had a fighting chance to get the nomination in 2012 and win.

She's a good figure to draw funds for the party from specific groups, but she won't win the election. Good candidate for a high profile ambassadorship once the Republicans win again.

Razorback   November 16th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

There are more qualified candidates in the Republican Party. However, nobody gets both sides excited like Sarah does! Don't believe me? Just look at the Ticker every day. Just the mention of Sarah Palin generates 300+ responses!

RahmAxleRod SuperTroopers   November 16th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

palin is goldwater.

OldUncleTom   November 16th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

While I agree with Carville, that you can't invent comedy this good (though he said it in kinder terms), I still wonder if Sarah would have a showing in 2012 even as good as Goldwater in '64.

Surely, even what is left of the GOP leadership will make a better selection.

Obama Victim   November 16th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

isn't Steve Schmidt the guy that Sarah trashed in her best seller.."Going Rogue"??? so we would expect him to say ??????? as to the other guy..he is an Obozo loser.....so we would expect him to say?? nothing to see here folks...move on

Black Viper   November 16th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

Come one plouffe don't tell the liberal secret in public.
We want her to be the republican nominee. We don't want to spend too much time and money campaigning in 2012. We want an easy target.

mercado   November 16th, 2009 12:28 pm ET

Please run Palin. It might give Obama a landslide victory. Wait, it will give Obama a landslide victory if he doesn't screw up.

Pass The Word   November 16th, 2009 12:26 pm ET

Palin has as much if not more experience than the current illegimate ill-associated Islam supporting President.

Obama prepared for his run at the White House for 4 years while neglecting his senatorial duties.

The more this tripe comes out the more it shows the left fears her. Remember she did not have the 4 years to prepare, yet she eclipsed MCain in the a very short time. With the right preparation, she could run and win. But if I was her, I keep kicking the left and pander my book.

diridi   November 16th, 2009 12:26 pm ET

you can judge GOP when they say Palin...ok...

Enough   November 16th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

What's in the white house now is pretty Catastrophic, we couldn't any worse than Obama. What's your point?

Mickey   November 16th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Of course she would be "catastropic" for the GOP...she already IS catastrophic for the GOP.

As long as the GOP trots out disablers like Romney, Palin, Boehner, Cantor, etc., and lets "talk show hosts" like Beck, Hannity, and Limbaugh do the talking for their party, the GOP is doomed for years to come. Stop being the obstructionists you have devolved into.

islanderata   November 16th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

As CNN collapses it is going rogue. Look at your stories this morning. One after another attacking the next president of the United States.

Ed, Santa Fe, NM   November 16th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

Palin would be catastrophic if elected dog catcher.

Sally   November 16th, 2009 12:25 pm ET

I don't get it. If Sarah Palin is one of the reason's that the Republicans
lost the election, then why are they still looking to her for a possible
candidate to represent their party in a Presidential election? Why?

RCasson   November 16th, 2009 12:23 pm ET

I'm with Carville. Let the clown win, and watch Obama take all 50 states including Alaska.

diridi   November 16th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

she is stupid...thats it..

Steve   November 16th, 2009 12:22 pm ET

Palin's totally viable, she doesn't just appeal to superstitious evangelicals and nitwits! Everybody really likes her and thinks she's honest, hard-working, and super super smart! The GOP should totally make her the nominee in 2012, that'd be a great idea! Do that, don't listen to the critics that tell you not to, it'd be a really good plan! Go with Palin in 2012!

Love,
The Committee To Re-Elect Barack Obama

Thomas   November 16th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

However, it would be a boon for the Democratic party...

suefromALASKA   November 16th, 2009 12:21 pm ET

She keeps proving she's a flunky. Let's just leave this dipstick in lipstick fade away.

A. Goodwin   November 16th, 2009 12:20 pm ET

It would be awesome if Palin was the GOP nominee...get's us 4 more years with an AWESOME president!

Really – looking forward to the party of NO's nominee...whomever it will be.

SocialismBad   November 16th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

Not sure why the liberals are so afraid of Sarah Palin. Maybe they just aren't used to having attractive and intelligent conservative women around them? Of course, she hunts so she's probably more masculine than most of the liberals that attack her!

Palin needs to take more time and get more experience before running again. After the disaster Obama has brought to us, Americans won't risk putting another person light on experience into the Whitehouse.

Gary, Los Angeles   November 16th, 2009 12:19 pm ET

You got anyone else?

Lacrosse Mama not for Obama from Bad Newz, VA   November 16th, 2009 12:16 pm ET

6 Active stories this morning on the Ticker about Palin. For all of you claiming that she is "irrelevant", obviously CNN doen't feel that way.

6 opportunities for the hateful left to spew their vile hatred toward her this morning.

Oh...and for the record...ZERO articles on the terrorist attack at Ft. Hood. And STILL no decision from Obama about additional troops in Afghanistan.

bob in LA   November 16th, 2009 12:15 pm ET

The irony is, his candidate chose her to be his replacement in an emergency.
It took Americans about one day to figure her out. They spent weeks lookinginto her background and NOW realize she should not be a nominee?

Rob   November 16th, 2009 12:14 pm ET

DUH! And so would my 5 year old son. Why would either tidbit be newsworthy?

James   November 16th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

I do hope she runs. I agree that the entertainment value alone would be worth the 1 in a billion chance that she could actually get someone to vote for her let along become president.

Marion/Alabama   November 16th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

What would you expect them to say?Fear of Sarah Palin has galvinized both the losers and the Obama team. If Sarah Palin runs for the Presidency in 2012 the bed wetters had better watch out,She will take the lead early and keep it,because she connects with the people, not the Washington elite.... The reason they are so afraid of her is because she is honest, that means she will not be bought,by the Unions and lobbyists to promote their agendas.

Robin   November 16th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Wow. Three Palin stories in a row on the ticker.

Can we say, Obama is having a bad week?

C. Farrell, Houston, Tx   November 16th, 2009 12:11 pm ET

Palin's book Going Rogue is no more than a GOP Whistle Blower, she just changed the name. I wouldn't trust this woman within 10 feet of any political party, she can't be trusted.

CommonSense09   November 16th, 2009 12:08 pm ET

I agree with Carville....run baby run!!! The Democrats will have a bigger sweep than last election.

LAUGHABLE   November 16th, 2009 12:07 pm ET

HA HA! Why are they worried about Sarah Palin? It figures the McCain and Obama teams agreed. Thats why McCain lost. Sarah was the only reason he had the votes he did.

Wayne   November 16th, 2009 12:06 pm ET

I believe that it would be the best thing for the Dems if Palin got the GOP nomination. This would guarantee another term for Obama.

Jefe   November 16th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

lol Plouffe is obviously trying to bait the Republicans and Republican voters into nominating Palin, using their adversarial (that's "us vs. them" for you 30%-ers out there) mindset. Unfortunately, only about half of Republicans are uneducated dolts, so its likely not going to work.

vic nashville , Tn   November 16th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

Sarah Palin will win the republican nomination in 2012

Thanks to tea bags ,FOX and Rush

Republicans is smart in the head area   November 16th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

She would be catastrophic, which is why I will send her a campaign contribution as soon as she declares.

Irma in North Carolina   November 16th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

She would not have a prayer against any one in a debate. Unless she knew the questions ahead of time and they had the answers for her on index cards.

Paradigm   November 16th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

We're just finding this out now? This woman should kill herself, she isnt good for anything

Gregory Lecakes   November 16th, 2009 12:02 pm ET

I am a republican true and proud and i can tell you i completely agree with James Carvelle in the aspect that Palin should run if we want to turn politics into a laughing stock. Oh wait it already is. Everyone that holds political office is bigging fed by big coroporations and they are the ones making the decisions. So who cares who is in office none of them do anything anyway.

Four and The Door   November 16th, 2009 12:01 pm ET

"We ought to learn from the Obama experience that someone can come out, not someone you've never heard of but someone who you just didn't think would run for president," he told the magazine.
______________________________________________________
Yeah, we are learning plenty from the Obama experience. That's why Sarah Palin can win in 2012. Obama is so much about Government for the Politicians and Sarah Palin is all about Government for the People. He is making her message that much clearer.

He talks the talk and she walks the talk. We need someone who can actually accomplish something in Washington. Spending is not an accomplishment.

Olive   November 16th, 2009 12:01 pm ET

I don't understand how CNN or any other media outlet justifies giving this idiot (Scarah Failin) any coverage. Why don't you do all of us SANE AMERICANS a favor...and quit letting her beat-all-of-you-up while handing her the microphone! The only way to make her go away is to tell her to kiss your "A" double "S". Don't you recognize the fury of a woman scorned? Alaskans from the onset have tried to warn the lower 48 that she (Scarah Failin) will throw ANYONE under-the-bus that doesn't agree with her. It's either her way or the high-way!

Ed Tallahassee   November 16th, 2009 11:58 am ET

The Republicans don't have a visible leader and their infighting is becoming public, it's the last thing they need right now.

I think Sarah Palin would only highlight this divide inside the Republican Party. She would also turn-off too many moderate voters.

I agree with Plouffe she would be better off as a money maker for herself and the party. She can fire-up the hard right base, and bring them out to vote, and fund raise, but that's all. She is too polarizing to pull in votes from the center.

Fitz in Texas   November 16th, 2009 11:57 am ET

Perhaps the reason David Plouffe and James Carvile are putting in their two cents regarding Palin is because they know Palin is a real threat to Obama in 2012.

hereslauphinatcha   November 16th, 2009 11:56 am ET

I totally agree with Plouffe. It would be caotic.

Mam   November 16th, 2009 11:56 am ET

Sarah Palin is uneducated, angry, devisive, a quitter, obnoxious, extremely self centered and immature. She uses her "death panel" theory at the expense of vulnerable people for her own personal gain. She certainly does not know how to pick her battles. She reacts to everthing, Scary.

She had the opportunity to learn from a great man, John McCain. But because Sarah Palin can not stop blabbering she blew a chance of a life time. This woman does not have a clue about what she doesn't know because she thinks she knows it all. Yikes.

mjm   November 16th, 2009 11:55 am ET

Wow...when was the last time CNN wrote a story like THIS?

Try every other day. It's the same story every time. A DNC strategist says she'll be a disaster, someone calls her a nut, maybe calls her a hoot.....

We get it. The Democrats love taking about Palin and they want to convince Republicans she'll be a bad candidate.

Always so concerned that the Republicans will pick a “bad” candidate.

If they really thought she would lose, they would support her like they did McCain.

Biased   November 16th, 2009 11:54 am ET

This conjecture and cries of doom from the Obama campaign and other democrats and all the fuss over this is ridiculous. My goodness are there no more serious questions to be discussed as to the impending health care debacle or maybe when a final decision will come re Afghanistan if ever? And is there anyone ever who has had their book factchecked to this extent before it even comes out? The hatred expressed towards this woman is astounding and a sickness in itself with this compulsion to "put her in her place" by ridicule.

Tom   November 16th, 2009 11:54 am ET

Run, Sarah, Run. The final downfall. Please

George   November 16th, 2009 11:54 am ET

GOP Please nominate SARAH!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hotchimera   November 16th, 2009 11:51 am ET

the smartest, brightest woman on the planet after my 10 year-old

PalinLvr   November 16th, 2009 11:51 am ET

The more and more Democrats underestimate Sarah Palin, the easier it will be for her to defeat their "chosen one" in 2012. I agree with James Carville, "run, baby, run" however, I believe the outcome will come as a HUGE disappointment to James when it's all said and done.

Kate   November 16th, 2009 11:51 am ET

Boy, wiser words were never spoken.........but the GOP is so busy fighting among themselves they aren't paying attention........she might have the far right wing extremist on her side but that is not the majority of American and the republicans will lose again

Melissa   November 16th, 2009 11:50 am ET

I have to agree. Only the most far right of the party like her.

Ann   November 16th, 2009 11:50 am ET

So? this would make your life easier. Why bother?

SLM   November 16th, 2009 11:50 am ET

Who even said Palin was running for President? She would a heck of a lot better than what is in the white house now...............but then so would anyone.

Silence Dogoode   November 16th, 2009 11:44 am ET

Not Palin....
