No media allowed at Palin speech in Missouri

Palin is speaking in Missouri in December.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Reporters won't be allowed to cover Sarah Palin's convocation speech at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri on December 2, according to the school.

Elizabeth Andrews, the college's communications director, called the decision "mutual."

"This was per the agreement that the College of the Ozarks had when had when we booked governor Palin for the convocation," she told CNN. "This didn't come from our end or theirs. It was a mutual consent kind of thing."

Andrews said the agreement is not unusual for the school, a Christian college in southern Missouri. She said past events with prominent speakers have also been closed to the press.

"This isn't the first time this has happened," she explained.

Free tickets were distributed when the appearance was first announced in November, but were quickly snatched up. Before the speech, Palin will be signing copies of "Going Rogue" in Springfield, Missouri, about an hour away from the college.

So much for that whole anti-elitist "Jane Sixpack" image. Will the students each get a free copy of her book instead of a Diploma?

Wonder if there will be any journalism grads in the audience? Or iReporters? Hmmm...that's a dilemma. Are they "media" or are they "graduates"?

Does everyone have to sign a non-disclosure agreement before hearing the gnostic wisdom she will no doubt share?

What if attendees post blogs about the speech? Does that make them "media"? Technically, they're reporting. What about tweets? Or just texting?

Or maybe the university has taken a page from the People's Republic of China and jammed mobile devices and blocked the internet on campus.

It's disappointing that a US university is still in the weeds when it comes to dealing the new realities of communication.

It must be particularly disappointing to the grads, whose degrees have just been devalued by the stone-age attitude of their alma mater.

To address the common response by conservatives whenever a Palin issue comes up. Liberals are not afraid of Palin... CNN covers Palin because every news source has a funnies section. Comedy sells.

Its super to see Sarah Palin rip huge chunks of flesh off of the Republican party to satisfy her owl lust for power and celebrity. She will be feasting for quite some time, but the main course will be served up at the 2012 election.

This is silly and simple. She is probably trying to get on her feet in front of a crowd without the expert speech writers and the fashion designers . She must have the perky Katie and the Everyday Joes and the indept questions of the CNN top interviewers to continue to look the top professional she has become in the light of the media's' attention. Sarah need to hurry and do a town hall with the media and take some hard questions and not with the stations' top but open it it to the second level. Without them she will will only fizzle. She can't bite the hand that feeds this frenzy and the base,

What is it that Palin has to hide? Why can't she face the media? Is she that afraid that she will mess up and she doesn't want it exposed in the media? Is she that insecure? She can't face the media NOW then God forbid she should ever get in the WH and ban the Press from every meeting, she would desolve the Press Core or probably would make Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity or Hoffman her Press Secrectary.......couldn't you just see her administration (made up of FOX News celebrties.....who is advising this woman? Doesn't she know that by Banning the media from every speech she gives is only going to make her more or a target with the media...........she is so lame it is pathetic...........

Sarah Palin is going to be the next Ronald reagan for sure....just by the way the media is picking at her about everything....it so reminds me of the Reagan years...yet Sarah is an optomistic person like Reagan, she is conserative like Reagan, she believes in the American way of life, like Reagan, She is a fighter, like Reagan and she really gets under the skin of liberals....just like Reagan......The only people who think Sarah is a problem to be solved are the liberals.....us conseratives think she is the answer to our prayers.......Go Sarah....2012...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No press? She obviously cannot handle the heat in the kitchen and this is only a beginning. her complaints about a Newsweek cover are absurd in the face of the fact that she would be a Wasilla housewife still if she were not a pretty as the cover. All amateur politicians react this way when hit with the full force of public criticism. Toughen up or go home.

Where is the real news on CNN. You are turning in to tabloid news. Where is the news about the falsified job info in the stimulus reporting...that's news. Where is the info on China questioning proposed US healthcare debt if passes (yes it does matter when they practically own us). Where is the news of Hoffman "unconceding". Where is your investigative reporting on fraud and waste in the goverment (both parties). It obviously doesnt get on the front page, I am sure it is buried somewhere in here. I just can't find it. Why is SEIU president Andrew Stern so cozy with the president. Where is the news on Afganistan, or Iraq (oh thats right, Obama prez now). Wake up people.

The immaturity of the media is a large part of why this country is in a death spiral. we have the choice of accepting what the media is saying blindly or taking it as entertainment only. Either way the American people have no means left to be well informed and that's a scary place to be. What ever happened with just reporting the facts? It went the way of the loyality of the American people for the future generations. The immaturity of the media is nothing more than a reflection of who we, their customers have become. We're done.
