You're as pretty as Palin, Carville tells Matalin

Washington (CNN) – Longtime Clinton ally and Democratic strategist James Carville had some rare words of praise for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union. But, ever the good husband, Carville made sure to heap equal praise on his wife, Republican strategist Mary Matalin.

The two were discussing the recent controversial cover of Newsweek magazine, in which Palin is shown in running shorts. Carville said Palin should not complain about the use of a photo which was not a candid shot but one she had originally posed for, even if it were for a publication other than Newsweek. Echoing recent comments by Palin, Matalin disagreed and said she thought the Newsweek cover was sexist.

“You can agree on this,” Matalin asked her husband, “she looked good in it, right?”

“She does,” Carville said without hesitation, “Ain’t no doubt about that. You and her are the two best-looking women in the Republican Party,” the Democrat told his wife.

But Carville did not have much more positive to say about Palin.

While the Democratic strategist said Palin is “compelling” and connects with her supporters “in an unbelievable way,” Carville also said the former Alaska governor, believed by some political observers to be laying the groundwork for a 2012 White House bid, is not fit to be the nation’s chief executive.

“What I said about Sarah Palin on the day she was nominated [for the number two spot on the Republican presidential ticket last year], is still true. She’s uniquely and supremely unqualified to be president of the United States. But she’s got real presence about her. I find myself wanting to watch her more than I do most other politicians,” Carville told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King as Matalin looked on.

Matalin said Palin was good for the Republican Party as it begins to position itself for the 2010 midterms and the 2012 White House race.

“We’re ascendant in 2010,” Matalin said Sunday, “but we need people who can communicate the framework, the philosophy into which policy prescriptions can be put and [Palin] does that better than almost anybody.”

I'm watching a program on the National Geographic channel right now talking about dinosaurs and evolution. Considering that Sarah Palin doesn't believe in evolution (in her book she says that she, "didn’t believe in the theory that human beings – thinking, loving beings – originated from fish that sprouted legs and crawled out of the sea. Or that human beings began as single-celled organisms that developed into monkeys who eventually swung down from trees") she might want to tune in and maybe she'll learn something.

Who cares what she looks like! Keep that woman away from the 'big red button'! She's dangerously stupid.

Palin, Palin, Palin! What a hack! People just don't seem to get it. She is in it for the money! Can't say that I blame her on that note. Pretty darn smart, she has the media and a lot of people hoodwinked while she smiles all the way to the bank. Serious political contender? I have my doubts. Hmmmmmm, lesse, why not put her in the political ring against Hillary Clinton! Hillary would mop the floor with her in the first round! Then she couldn't say "sexist" or " they are all picking on me, and she would be the has been she has always been.

I don't understand women who don't appreciate Sarah Palin. Sarah is highly intelligent, truthful ethical, and a strong fearless leader. Anything else she needs to be President she can get the way all Presidents get it... by studying the issues, listening to her advisors (and then making her own decisions), delegating to lesser tasks to her team members, etc. On top of all that she's physically beautiful, which is just icing on the cake, not important, but good for photo ops.

Sarah is more qualified to be President than that idiot now on the 'throne'. He's just a narcissistic, USA hating, puppet. Sarah is her own person, and she loves this country. Unlike obuma she can bring home the bacon (or the moose) and also fry it up in the pan. Plus her husband is perfect for a First gentleman. What more do you want? Four more years of the USA hater, muslim lover?? Not me!

The Elephant in the room for me with Sarah Palin – not the GOP Elephant – is that she lies continually as naturally as breathing. We can't have someone like that in any position of political power.

I know cynics say politicians lie, but Palin does it with a straight face over and over and over again.

The smaller elephants are that she seems to be a religious fundamentalist extremist ( letting Rev. Muthee "put his hands on her" to rid her – or the area – of witches – pretty twisted stuff – No one has asked if she's a "Rapture Ready" or "End of Days" Christian, and if she is, this is the last person you want near the nuclear button.

Palin actually poses for a "sexist" photograph, then complains when it is reprinted.

She obviously thrives on self created controversy to stay in the news and sell books. In our gullible culture, the strategy works. And she laughs all the way to the bank.

Palin is using her unique (and odd) instant fame to make money for herself, nothing more. That's clearly why she quit as governor of Alaska after hardly making a dent. Did she have any impact there, other than pithy quotes?

She's a waste. And Republicans who keep holding her up as a hope and a sign are just as guilty of empty promises and sleight of hand tricks over sound policy, experience and judgement.

Funny, love Sarah Palin or hate her; she may not be overly smart but just smart enough.

She know the good old boy's club needed a refreshing face, even if the brain is not so smart. They needed someone other than the same old faces so, she gets her pay back by making a mint from their ignorance.

I have to give her credit for making millions from her own people. Most DEMS will not read her book or if they do; they'll read a borrowed copy. That makes sense and why should she not make mucha bucks off them. They invited her into the lime light, then promote her even after the election. Would McCain make so much and cause so mouch fuss? I don't think so. Good for her! She won't get my bucks though!

If she considered herself a serious contender, she would have known not to open herself up by posing for this kind of photo. But, this is Sarah Palin and she is all about how using her sex as a tool. There is nothing wrong with a woman looking like a woman, but she crosses the line when she uses the fact she is a sexy woman to gain what she wants. Then she cries foul because she herself acted in ways to use her sex. Strong woman. I don't think so, I think she is just shallow and vain.

Matalin has an obligation to speak well of Republicans, including Palin,
because she is one of them.

Sarah Palin doesn't fool anyone with this self-rightgeous attitude that she has adopted toward that photo. She and the rest of the double standard republican party is soaking it for all they can get. She knows that the photo is not a bad one and if it hadn't been put on Newsweek then the only people who saw it would have been individuals who read the runners magazine. I personally wish cnn would stop giving her so much publicity considering she is a quitter.

As the old saying goes, "Love is blind."

Please convey my condolences to Carville, but Sarah Palin is far hotter than his wife in every way. Her being conservative and a knowing how to handle firearms just increases her hotness, too.

And Ken in NC: if Letterman's looking for political jokes, I suggest he start with 0bama and his entire administration. The only reason I didn't qualify to serve in the 0bama administration is because I actually pay my taxes!!

Carville must be near-sighted. I don't understand why everyone thinks Palin is pretty – she is not. She is plain-jane at best, and her personality makes her completely repulsive.

Sarah Palin is something to watch for. US is known for electing awkward personalities as president. Ronald Reagan was clueless. George Bush Sr. was not the smartest. Clinton was as wacko as any junkie could be. Junk background and still defeated Bush. George W? He defeated Gore. Obama? Another junk background and still elected. That is why you see all these attacks on CNN pages from ghosts planted from Obama people. Notice any time Sarah Palin's name gets mentioned here and how many negative comments you'll receive in a second. If those are true, people will not be paying big bucks to see or read her. CNN is still the most independent cable channel and has to find better way of monitoring the posts in its sites.

  18. She Deserves To Be Treated Differently

I don't think it's sexist because this is how Palin is presenting herself to the world. Anyone who wears sexy red spike heels to a debate, deserves to be treated like a tramp.

Also, this woman has no substance and she can't have it all. I really don't want her to succeed because if she does, it's telling kids you don't need to study hard. All you have to do is stay stupid and wear sexy clothes.

Her book is a joke because she doesn't even read. Sarah Palin- Yuck.

Oh, and another thing we wnt to criticize Sarah with our voices, not branishing guns like our opponents.

Why can't the Republican Party find some interesting, sensible people to front for them?
Matalin and Palin, the former a bright person with a bad attitude, and the latter, an intellectually challenged person without an attitude, make for SNL fodder, not much else.

That's right Carville, keep pumping Palin up so we can slaughter the Republican party once and for all and because it's going to take Palin to do it.

Sorry, James, but your wife is nowhere near as good-looking as Palin. She is however as smart as she, like Palin, is a Republican.

Folks, just wait until the Ambassador From Alaska as to face down the cordon of old, angry, White men of the GOP in the primaries. And, if through some miracle she gets passed them, then she has to face down a polished, experienced politican in the debates. It will be a mess, if it ever comes to it.

I totally agree - Sarah has nothing to complain about the use of her posed photo. She WANTS attention, then gripes when she gets it. There is no pleasing her, and I really could care that she is upset. BooHoo.....

For heaven's sake, why don't Carville and Matalin have their own weekly show?!?! I LOVE those two, and the fact that they can both remain married and still strongly maitain their political beliefs actually gives me hope for our bitterly divided country!!!
