Lou Dobbs weighing White House run in 2012

Can Lou Dobbs make the leap from the anchor desk to the Oval Office?
Can Lou Dobbs make the leap from the anchor desk to the Oval Office?

(CNN) - Can Lou Dobbs make the leap from the anchor desk to the Oval Office?

A radio interviewer on WTOP joked Monday about the "crazy" idea that the former CNN host could mount a White House bid in 2012 - but Dobbs wasn't laughing. "What's so crazy about that?" he responded in the interview broadcast on the Washington, D.C. station.

"Well, I'll tell you this much: it's one of the discussions that we're having," Dobbs said. "For the first time, I'm actually listening to some people about politics."

Dobbs, who amicably parted ways with the network earlier this month, also told former Sen. Fred Thompson that he was definitely weighing a run.

"I'm going to be talking some more with some folks who want me to listen to them in the next few weeks," Dobbs said on the 2008 Republican presidential candidate's radio show. "I just don't even know even what to tell you in terms of where I'm leaning, because right now I'm fortunate to have just a number of wonderful options."

The former anchor's strong views on illegal immigration have made him a lightning rod for criticism from Hispanic groups, and a popular figure in some conservative quarters.

My advice to Dobbs is this it is far , far ,easier to complain about the way the country is run than to manage the asylum.

Dobbs would be great as President. He has more stage presence than Obama, more intelligence than Obama and actually understands basic economics. What a refresher that would be.

Lou Dobbs for President sounds CRAZY. He was so indepentant that we always wrote him off as a crazy like Glenn Beck. He never had a good word of support for our President. I wouldn't vote for Lou to run the local animal shelter.
Thank goodness that CNN gave him the boot. Time for Lou to retire.

That's amazing. The "Le Pen" of American public life (cf. the French you love to hate) apparently believes that demagogic national chauvinism is a ticket to political success. Bring it on!!
Palin/Dobbs (or Dobbs/Palin) on an indpeendent-type ticket would utterly destroy the GOPhers.

Please do and then he can see just how much he is hated by a lot of people. He won't get the African American vote, he definitely won't get the Latino vote, he won't get the liberal vote, most of the dem vote and he won't get most of the young vote. I would love to see Mr. Dobbs make a fool of himself. It's one thing to spew your hate from behind a desk and another to be accountable to the American people for spewing your hate. Please run Lou, please!

Yeah!! As a 5th generation Texan, of Hispanic descent, I would be thrilled to cast my vote for Lou Dobbs. I'm probably one of a few Hispanics who has the guts to stand up and say ENOUGH with continuing to let all sorts of illegals into this country. I work 7 days a week, 10-14hr days (with no overtime) and I'm taxed to the hilt to pay for them. Majority of those illegals make low wages, meaning they don't pay any taxes, and in fact, they get tax credit $ back!...because they use stolen social secuiry numbers and they get the Earned Child Tax Credit $. Enough! I'm sick of paying for all of them ruining my country. And I challenge true Hispanic AMERICANS to stop playing the victim role (like most blacks do today) and stop putting your hand out for handouts, and put our country first or we will end up becoming a 3rd world country. You laugh now...but it will happen if you don't have the guts to protect America. If you can't see this, you are really Stupid and ignorant.

Dobbs – run for your local city council, then for your local house representative seat. Then by 2016 in the earliest you might have at least some basic experience in politics to talk about a presidential bid. Be prepared to change your immigration and other views if they are not representing the needs of your constituents in the meantime.

This is what happens when you surround yourself with sycophants and your sense of self-importance and righteousness gets too bloated. Dobbs would have every Hispanic in the country voting against him and picketing his campaign. On top of that, he would have every liberal in the country calling him a potential tyrant with delusions of grandeur. I hope he runs. It will be fun to watch him fade into obscurity when it becomes clear that he is a single-issue candidate.

    Lou,

I stopped watching your poor excuse of a show many months ago. I'm glad you also realized that you were losing your following and decided to leave your CNN gig shortly after singing your high note.

I think your attempt to run for the White House is laughable at best. As a Presidential candidate, you will actually have to engage in problem-solving dialogue instead of sensationalizing issues for ratings. Like Limbaugh, I don't think you're up for the challenge.

If the GOP is crazy enough to let you represent them in 2012 (God willing, with Palin as your running mate), then I predict a second term for Obama.

When you were an impartial journalist, you were amazing. I'm afraid you should have stuck with what you knew!

If I was Lou Dobbs and considering a run for the White House, I would definately not have my name in the same article with a poor example for a senator like Fred Thompson.

Lou, be careful what you wish for. I think it's much easier to criticize and generalize about what should and shouldn't be done. The hard part is actually looking at all the players involved and how everything is affected and then seeing that there's more compromise involved than you'd ever care to do.

Give me a break. No one is going to vote for him...and I am a conservative. If the republicans have any hope of getting anywhere in the next couple years, they have to get someone better than the people who are coming out of the woodwork now. Glenn Beck, Palin, McCain (poser) Huckabee, that morman guy? Please. These people are horrible choices.....It's like what Rush said, a third party prob needs to happen...

But even if it does, who is going to be there? Geeze.

Well, I for one will want to examine his birth certificate. No, I mean the REAL birth certificate. The one issued in Outer Mongolia, where he REALLY came from.

In fact, I won't be satisfied that Lou Dobbs is a natural born 'Mercan until I interview 5 people who were present at his birth. Then, of course, I'll have to examine all of their birth certificates, and those of people who where present at their birth, and so on.

What an EGO! How dare he criticze President Obama when his ego quadruples in size. Let him run...it is always fun to dig out the skeletons from the closets. Also, I am sure Latinos will be lining up to vote for him...HAHA

Are you kidding???????????? How many viewers does Dobbs have?

The far-right is in total denial. Americans are not far-right........ we are Left of center!

ONLY 21% of Americans claim to be GOP.

55% of Americans do not know who the leader of the GOP is.

Only 15% of Americans claim to be far-right.

    I suggest this......... PALIN/DOBBS 2012!

I hope he does it by forming a third party that siphons off all the birther types and tea-bag conspiracy nuts and leaves a GOP that is actually sane again.

Lou Dobbs is a well read and inteligent . He's also not a part of the bought and paid for media propaganda machine. I seriously doubt he would even consider pairing up with an idiot like Palin. maybe id he teamed up with Ron Paul, we would actually have 2 guys with brains, who actually care about the American people and not just spewing out lip service just to get votes

Looks like everyone that has some sort of conspiracy theory will run for the GOP in 2012...how sad. If the Republicans know what's good for them, they better keep Dobbs a mile away.

It wouldn't surprise me if he fired that bullet into his own house, just to garner sympathy.

    GOP: Evolve or die..

Good Luck Lou. Since you are alwayscriticizing Latinos, Blacks and everyone else, who would ever vote for you? At one time you were credible, but it appears you moved over to the Dark Side. You and Palin or Beck or whoever would be wonderful draining all those votes from the RepubliKlans. GO OBAMA.

Why all is hate towards Lou Dobbs? Because he doesn't get a "thrill running up his leg" when Obama talks? Lou seems to care about this country and has been equally critical of both Republicans and Democrats. Bad government is bad government. Why link him to Palin and Beck? He engaged with as many liberals as conservatives on his CNN show. I wish him luck!

You libs just don't get it. Dobbs speaks the plain truth. He is an America First person, which used to be how everyone in the USA was until not many years ago. He has actual opinions, and is not swayed by the polls, like your cheeseball.

Dobbs and Lieberman, or equal. Not Sarah.

You guys can really dish it out, as if Joe Biden or even your Messaiah are some kind of geniuses. What have they done in a year? Ha Ha

Beware! Better not laugh too hard just yet!

OMG, unbelievable. Please run Lou, then there won't be a big decision of who to vote for. The choice will be clear, Obama will thrash you. You are a racist, and I am a senior, white woman. I remember when your show was worth watching, but the barring of teeth and ego swelled up head became really OLD fast. Good luck when you get to Fox News or where ever you go.
