Washington (CNN) - Hillary made it, but not Bill. Political allies will be there, along with an opponent or two. Hollywood will be well-represented.
The guest list to Tuesday night's state dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh - the first such event of President Barack Obama's administration - totaled more than 300 people for what is considered one of the most desired invites in Washington.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is on the list, but not her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
Democratic colleagues of the president including other Cabinet ministers, several senators and top aides made the list, among them: Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts (but not his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and White House Budget Director Peter Orszag.
A couple of Republicans also made it, notably Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Celebrities include Hollywood director Steven Spielberg, actors Alfre Woodard and Blair Underwood, DreamWorks Animation executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, CBS News anchor Katie Couric and New York Times columnist Tom Friedman.
The Indian diplomatic community also was well-represented, and at least one corporate big-shot, General Electric chief executive Jeffrey Immelt, was on there.
One name rumored to be included, but not appearing on the list, was Oprah Winfrey.

Lets see, my guess is most of these people gave a whole lot of money to Obama's campaign and now once again Obama is paying them back. Wonder what this dinner cost the taxpayer.
People wake up.....this administration is destroying this country.
Wonder what the troops will be eating tonight as these Hollywierds suck up the taxpayers money feasting on only the best our money can buy them for tonight's dinner.
Doesn't this fall under the who cares category?
Oh yeah. The common man's president.
Wow, what a guest list. How many people will be present for dinner?
It says "other cabinet ministers." Ministers belong in church not in the cabinet. We have secretaries in our cabinet.
Oh, Jindal because he is Indian? Nice move.
i think that at every state dinner, two ordinary american couples whom have perhaps been nominated for good deeds should be invited to the dinner. this is the peoples' house, and the people ( the common man if you will) should be represented. thank you
I see where K. Couric is lumped in with all the other actors and celebrities instead of the serious journalists-right where she belongs!
I'm devastated that I wasn't invited.
How fantastic is that photo above! Priceless.
Hilarious..
Poor Indian woman..i would look miserable as well standing beside Michelle Obama within that photo!!
A diamond beside a lump of coal...poor thing..
Bwahahahahhhhaaaaaa!!! LOL
For what purpose are Hollywood celebrities there?
Dont tax payers foot the bill?
You and I are paying for Spielberg's plate? Vern Jordon?
Missing is accomplished Indian born author Dinesh D'Sousa.
Glad Sanjay Gupta and Tom Friedman are there. The latter has a lot of concrete suggestions in the interest of the country, not party oriented, though he is liberal
Michelle Obama looks stunning.
It is interesting that Brian Williams,(NBC) and Catie Couric(CBS) were invited and not Charlie Gibson,( ABC). Could it be that ABC news seems to be fair and balanced instead of the obvious slant in favor of the adminisration by the two that were invited?
yeppers a corperate meeting to promise the rest of our jobs go to india. Please can we have a 3rd common sense party???please.
Wonderful. I'm sure everyone will enjoy the experience and a wonderful state dinner. It's a blessing to live in a country where its leaders continue to work towards world peace with diplomacy, grace and commitment.
I'm proud of my President, he's proven that diplomacy is key in rebuilding our relationships with foreign countries. Times are changing and we can't continue to be the "BULLY' making threats and barking orders and forcing democracy on countries who don't share our beliefs or opinions.
We can still agree to disagree and yet get along respectfully. State Dinners are design to build diplomatic relationships and pave a future where ALL countries share EQUAL stake in working towards a common goal for peace and humanitarian relationships around the world.
Is Rev. Jeremiah Wright offering the benediction?
Mrs. Obama looks absolutely stunning....good representation for our country....I like the food choices too..all of it.....makes me wish I had an invite. God Bless Jenniffer to step up and give her best..she has had so much to deal with. Love the Jazz man!!!! Planned very well...now..if people can just laugh a little!
ps..who is the CNN rep there telling the story? What's he/she wearing?
I must say how stunning Mrs. Obama's dress is in the previous picture. She looks so classy. The dress and accessories all suggest an Indian influence, just right.
I would LOVE to be there just to hear Jennifer Hudson sing!!
Have our cabinet secretaries been redesignated as ministers for this occasion only, or is this a permanent change? Or has CNN farmed out its reporting and editing for domestic events to places where minister would be the correct term?
Wonderful! Last, but certainly not least, I was very pleased to see Mr. Fareed Zakaria's name on the list.
This is a very impressive list of guests that comprise very distinguished national and foriegn dignitaries and public figures. I hope the Obamas pull off this event successfully. I believe they will. This is a prelude to an era of diplomacy and peaceful collaboration among the U.S. and other nations.
Only elected officials are honorable, not aides working at the white house. This is too typical of self promoters.
Sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun!
Good luck guys.
Our President never tires of being on public view, trips all over the world, dinners in New York Hot Spots, Multimillion Dollar State Dinners, so on and on, how boring.
Could someone enlighten me on how the WH decides on the guest list? It seems pretty random to me. It's reasonable to see administration officials and notable people with Indian descent to be invited, but Hollywood? CBS News Anchor?? NYT Columnist??? And why Bill Clinton and Senator Kerry's wife are not there? Is it because they can't make it or because they weren't invited?
