North Carolina turkey set to be pardoned

Washington (CNN) - A big bird from the east is heading west, thanks to a second chance at life here in the nation's capitol.

In a holiday tradition, President Barack Obama Wednesday will officially pardon a turkey at the White House, saving it from ending up as Thanksgiving dinner.

The president will pardon a turkey from North Carolina named Courage. The North Carolina governor's office Web site says that after Courage is pardoned, he'll fly west and participate in the 121st annual Rose parade on New Years Day. The Web site adds that if Courage is unable to perform his duties at the White House, an alternate turkey named Carolina will be on hand as an understudy.

The turkey and poultry industry have given a turkey to the White House each year since the presidency of Harry Truman, but the tradition of officially pardoning a turkey didn't begin until George H.W. Bush took office in 1989.

I thought the elected official with $90,000 in his freezer was from Louisiana at first.

Number of initial filers for unemployment insurance sinks to 466,000, the lowest since Sept. 13, 2008.
The number of first-time filers for unemployment insurance fell to 466,000, the lowest level in 14 months
5,423,000 people filed continuing claims in the week ended Nov. 14, the most recent data available. That's down 190,000 from the preceding week's 5,613,000 ongoing claims.
I just thought that I tell you that for a little morning news on the street. I know it is far from perfect, but it is much better than what we have had as of recent.

  3. The real turkeys are in Congress

The real turkeys are in Congress –and they should NOT be pardoned but tossed out of office. Word comes out of Speaker Pelosi's office this morning that she is considering a WAR Sur-Tax to finance the war in Afghanistan. What is next – reinstitution of the Draft?

It is time for all the tax and spend Democrats to be tossed out of office. We need some sanity before Obama and the Democrats take this nation into bankruptcy.... and we are teetering on the brink right now.

Get out of Iraq Now. Get out of Afghanistan Now. Stop this health care trillion dollar boondoggle you call reform and just regulate health care costs. And stop the maddening pork spending - Pelosi and her fellow democrats have been at the pork spending feeding trough since Obama took office and it is destroying this country.

Sources tell CNN that prior to the official pardon, Obama will first apologize on behalf ot the Pilgrims to all turkeys everywhere. It is then expected the president will complete a patented 90-degree Obama bow-down to the turkey in the hope that it will improve relations with the avian community.

The President will probably have to also pardon that turkey, John Boehner, for spending $82,998 on golf this year, while most Americans struggle from day to day. We feel your pain John.

Pelosi is an idiot,do you tax welfare people for being lazy and screwing the system or veterans for defending her right to have her job,or oh I forgot she is a democrat from california and has no common sense. Why dont she fix the economy instead of trying to tax our soildiers for funds.she wants to give healthcare to illegals and screw up the healthcare system for a handful of low lifes. Some one vote this crazy lady out of office.

I am not a homophobe in any way and have several friends who happen to be gay. No problem. However, I have had it with having these flaming gays flaunt and force their lifestyle onto me and my family every time we turn around. They are damaging their own cause in a huge way. I certainly never want to see or hear about that Adam guy ever again. Adios.

Which North Carolina turkey is set to be pardoned? We have lots of them here–and most of them seem to hold some sort of public office.
