From

Washington (CNN) - In the GOP's Thanksgiving Day message, Indiana Republican Rep. Mike Pence laid out the party's prescription for economic growth, and slammed the Obama administration's approach.

"[W]hile empty chairs for America's defenders were placed at Thanksgiving dinner tables in many homes, many other seats were filled with anxious Americans who are facing their own personal battles and struggles," Pence says in the latest weekly GOP radio and Web address. "Millions of families have seen jobs and careers vanish in the midst of this recession.

"Many are asking, 'when will things get better?' Many more are asking, 'where are the jobs?'

Pence slammed the administration's $787 billion stimulus package for failing to keep the nation' unemployment rate out of the double-digit range, as the White House had predicted.

"And what is the White House's answer to our struggles? Another meeting next week," Pence says referring to Obama's upcoming jobs summit.

"The Obama administration and the Democratic majority in Congress have taken our economy from bad to worse with their failed economic agenda and big government plans," Pence says in the GOP message.
"The American people know we can't borrow and spend and bail our way back to a growing economy."

Calling it "a push for government-run insurance," Pence also criticizes Democratic efforts to pass a health care reform bill.

On Thanksgiving, Pence also uses the message to honor those Americans who are serving in the military.

"Even in these times of struggle and trial, we have much to be thankful for, beginning with our men and women in uniform, many of whom will spend this holiday season away from hearth and home. The tragic events at Fort Hood remind us that whether they serve at home or abroad, we owe our soldiers and their families a debt of gratitude we will never be able to repay."

For all those so eager to send more troops to Afghanistan (at $500,000 per troop), if Nancy Pelosi's idea to create a tax to help pay for it is indeed proposed where will you be? I think you'll be the first to have a Tea Party or something to complain about it. The largest part of the reason our ecnonomy is in the toilet is that Bush and Cheney started two extremely expensive wars with no way to pay for them except DEFICIT SPENDING which of course right wingers hate unless they want to do it. Remember when that tax is proposed all the times you've answered the question "can we afford to fight these wars? "and your response "we can't afford not to." Just get used to the idea that you'll be actually paying for it this time. And, oh yeah, when your kid gets drafted to fight you need to shut-up then too!

Keep in mind the democrats have held congress since 2006. Want to keep blaming the republicans for the economy, look at Dodd and Frank’s role in this. Also those who say the republicans represent the wealthiest Americans, do you really believe the leading democrats are poor and represent the poor. Try to be a pro-life democrat and see where that gets you. Party of inclusion? Come on, open those eyes people.

The overview states Pence outlined a socalled Republicans' presecriptions for growth". Surely, explaining what these are is more important than repeating the same old republican lines over and over again!!

What is the Pence plan to creat jobs? What is the Pence plan for health care? What is the Pence plan for bringing home the troops? What is the Pence plan for getting moneyed interest out of politics? What ideas does Pence have for moving the country forward?

Criticism is so easy, contributing to a constructive dialogue seems beyond Pence's grasp.

Pence,

Govt can't force companies to hire. Companies are working their current employees longer and harder because they are afraid of hiring new employees. In other economic times they would have hired.

Also, people need to realize that a job isn't going to come to you. You may have to move to get a job, but that is reality.

As for me, I live in the city that is ranked as the #1 big city economy during these times. We have 7% unemployment and we are still growing. If people are willing to move to San Antonio Texas we have a diverse work force.

All you slammers of Texas don't realize we are one of the strongest states right now.

Oh, and I am a Democrat too.

Pence,
Listen up, this all started close to nine years ago you dufous !! I am sick of repubs blaming everything on Obama. The eight year mess will take a minimum of four years to clean up. Where were you while Bush was destrying America. I am sick and tired of the Obama bashing after a measely one year he is expected to clean up an economy destroyed by others.Shut up and do something constructive with your mouth and turn your thoughts into action

Patsy, Texas   November 26th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

I would like to ask Pence where all the Republicans were when
you had total control in the White House and Congress. Where
was Bush's veto pen? Where were the oversight committees?
Were were you, Pence, when the budget went out of control?
If one of you, once, would just say "we did a lousy job, now let's
work together to get it right", I would faint and cheer you on. All
you can do is criticize and call people names. Your negligence
and self-important my way or the highway attitude put us in this
mess. Now help get us out, or go away!!!!!!

tjaman   November 26th, 2009 12:31 pm ET

The economic collapse was largely due to disastrous economic policies and pretending a near-trillion dollar war would be FREE, so sure, everyone have a tax rebate! Take two, they're HUGE! Which totally free war is the reason they're over there in the first place.

A year later, the mess we're in is still the Rs fault. You all expanded the war to Iraq for totally fake reasons you completely made up and you destroyed the economy because you don't know how to count. That's all on _you_ guys. Also, the Contract on America killed healthcare reform in the '90s and we've just been sleepwalking through _nothing_ solutions while costs just got higher and higher!

Your party has no solutions, and is entirely to blame for everything that is wrong with this country. So you might just trying sitting down and shutting up for a change.

johnrj08   November 26th, 2009 12:30 pm ET

Things will get better when the Republican Party stops being obstructionist and kicks all the half-witted extreme right-wingers out of its party. Then it MIGHT be able to function like a legitimate "loyal opposition" that is interested in more than power. Right now, it is dividing the country by stating one lie after another.

I am thankful that the GOP is looking out for the wealthiest one percent of americans and good old racist everywhere. Lord knows we spend too much on poor people and minorities in this country. Hell there was so much surplus in the US economy under the last democratic administration that anyone could get into college. Thank heavens we got rid of that and started spending our money chasing Sadaam and making all the oil companies and mercenaries wealthier.

Willy Brown........   November 26th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

This is so ironic. It's political theater. Reublican's are the entire cause of our economic situation. They're political culture, and support of corruption by the Wall Street sales of fraudulent CDO accounts of sub prime mortgages completely emptied our American banking system of currency after Phil Gram completely dereguated banking regulation after 2000 by making modifications within Wall Street. In addition, the Republican ideology of providing tax cuts for the wealthy, and all Corporations during wartime which is very expensive becomes completely stupid. It's an economic "recipe" for any country to lose their economic power within the world. It's irresponsibly making the poor and middle class pay for a war that was to benefit the oil industry, as the rich went on vacation. Now, after 8 years of that...Republicans want to blame democrats for not reversing GOP ideologies damage to our economy after 10 months??? I don't think so.....What's the GOP been smoking??? And every time we speak about the truth over these issues, America ignores the facts. I wouldn't doubt if CNN even refused to consider this for posting. But I have to speak the truth about our country and Refiblicans degrading our economic standing in the world.

ICARE   November 26th, 2009 12:17 pm ET

Terry from West Texas   November 26th, 2009 12:13 pm ET

This Republican Thanksgiving Day message to the nation is fatuous in the fullest sense of the word (asinine, brainless, foolish, sheepheaded, silly, unwitty, weak-headed, weak-minded, and witless). The Conservative message is that Obama is doing nothing but wrong. His priorities are always wrong. His actions are always wrong. His choice of breakfast cereal is always wrong. His decision to go on a trip was wrong. His decision to stay home and NOT go on a trip was wrong.

Conservatives do not, of course, believe what they are saying. What they DO believe is that they deserve to be in power because they like it. They also believe that their corporate contributors deserve a big profit from their investment in Conservatism. To Conservatives, our Democracy is just a game, like the Super Bowl. Someone wins, someone loses. They want to win. They also believe in the old pro-sports proverb, "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying."

Tacky

Richard Komi   November 26th, 2009 12:12 pm ET

Those who are critizing Obama should realize that he is less than one year in office. And we should also know that the loss of jobs did not start under Obama and the huge deficit did not begin with Obama. Today the GOP wants to blame Obama for everything that was messed up by Bush eight years ago.

Anonymous   November 26th, 2009 12:07 pm ET

Republicans like to dish out the criticism but fail to take any responsibility for creating the recession they now criticize. Don't worry Pence we will get it done if you get out of our way.

catmom   November 26th, 2009 12:05 pm ET

So, Republicans couldn't take just one day off from bashing President Obama? They couldn't just deliver a positive message of hope for the American people? They actually think that the constant negativity and bashing of President Obama is doing something good for our country?I suppose not, it does however go along with their wish that our country and President fails. How's that for an uplifting Thanksgiving message.

LenSmith   November 26th, 2009 12:04 pm ET

Pence needs to get real as things are getting better each day and this administration has done a lot for this country. Remember the deficits were started by Reagan and continued under each Republican administration and some of Clinton, but he left the country with a surplus, only to be given away by another Republican and those numbers you see now are as a result of of a Republican administration and congress. They, hopefully, will get better with the leadership of a great President that I think Obama will be.

LouAz   November 26th, 2009 12:03 pm ET

Duh ? I read this "news report" three times. Just where is (" Mike Pence laid out the party's prescription for economic growth") the Flat Earth Party prescription for economic growth ? Did you somehow leave that part out ? You included all the pure political griping about Obama and the Dems. Where is the rest of the story that America has been waiting for ?

Elizabeth Ludwig   November 26th, 2009 12:00 pm ET

Yes this country has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, beginning with the fact that we have a thinking president in the WH, and that the Republican party and president who led the country to two wars and economic turmoil are out of power in DC. Rep. Pence's comments only underline the the depths that Republicans will go to continue to derail America – instead of helping the president, they can only deride and say no. Where were the nos when they were getting us into this mess? Where was the call for fiscal restraint when they started two wars, yet cut taxes? Who did they think was going to pay for those wars? I'm not pleased with everything President Obama has done (or not done), but I give him credit for trying. Certainly can't say the same for Congress.

After 8 years of incompetence by the two drunks Cheney (shoots freind in face on a salted hunt and hides 'till sober before reporting it, drunk on CNBC interview lying about Iraqi links to Al Qaida) and his puppet Shrub (drunk at Olympics, ""The Prezel Incident"), the American republic has been reestablished!

Interesting how all of the previously cowering Republicans (under Bush) can't wait to jump on the anti Obama bandwagon to complain about the economy, the war, jobs, etc. Just maybe that bandwagon is masquarading as a bunch of lemings walking toward the cliff of responsibility.

It seems as if Mr. Pence and the rest of the Republican Party believe that they have a "plan" to help the economy and cut the unemployment figures. All they seem to know is to continue to cut taxes on the wealthiest Americans and protect the status quo of big business and Wall Street. If they would only realize that it was these conditions that was created by the Bush Administration that has put us in the position we are in.

His own party won't support his extremist views, so who cares when he bashes Obama. He's been in the House since 2001 and drove the economy here by backing Bush ALL THE TIME. Abe   November 26th, 2009 11:44 am ET

This is a day w all should celebrate for what we have and hope things will get better soon. We know the economy is not were it needs to be, unemployment is high and we hav a lot of people out of work. It is a day to be thankful and not a day to critcize the president for trying to fix our ills. Republicans are very forgetful who got us to this mess in the first hand. They should stop to undermine the presidents efforts and give him some praise for trying. I do not see and effort by the republicans to try and fix the ecnomoy or come up with there own idea to pass a health care program. There idea of the Tea Party rallies is a sham and is just intended to degrade our president and injecting the wrong message. So I say to Rep. Mike Pence is to stop criticizing and if he has a cure for the economy is to spit it out. Mr. Penn has to realize that the health care insurance he has was given to him by the people that voted for him. That is a privilage. So think back that the people that voted for you some of them might not have a health insurance. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Death Panel Sarah   November 26th, 2009 11:43 am ET

The jobs left when the BUSH sold out to CHINA – the GOP and right wing nuts are so stupid if the think that the majority of americans beleive that they are going to save the country.

OBAMA is only trying to repair the damage caused by their 8 years of fiscal conservative policies that sold the country out to china and india. CNN is clearly spending more time kissing the GOP ass then reporting on the facts. If you think the 20 million who showed up at the kkk tea party rallys are the majority then I gues the remaining 235,000 simply do not matter.

CAW in MD   November 26th, 2009 11:38 am ET

So here we have an illustration of the stark differences between the Democrats and the Republicans. Democrats in their message acknowledge the difficulties we are currently experiencing, but offer a message of hope for better tomorrows. The Republicans offer nothing but criticism and whining.

Is it any wonder that people trust Obama more than the Republicans to get them out of this time of trouble?

Allen in Hartwell GA   November 26th, 2009 11:37 am ET

Given the history of the GOP from 1994 until the 2008 presidential election, Rep. Pence should keep his mouth shut unless it is to say something good or helpful. The GOP is mostly responsible for the situations we are facing as a nation on this Thanksgiving Day, and because of them we have very little to be thankful for!

Rita   November 26th, 2009 11:34 am ET

Same old Gop speeches, but no knew ideas! If we hadn't spent this money our country would be headed quickly into a depression! We all remember that it was Bush who hadn't given the troops the saving life equipment for the war; so who supports the troops again? The Republicans will not see the inside of the White House again anytime soon, including 2012 they can go on kidding themselves but we won't forget who got us into this mess. Americans don't have to rely on their memories we have information tools at our finger tips. Bring on the teabaggers, They all voted last year and as I recall they lost and they will loose again.

FactCheck   November 26th, 2009 11:33 am ET

Things were so much better in 2006, when the President was lining the pockets of important institutions like Blackwater and Halliburton rather than wasting it on nonsense like healthcare, infrastructure and medical research.

Mlhall   November 26th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Obama do not need you to tell him how to run these US. When you run and win in 2012, you may use your own advice, I don’t thank you will win. You and a lot of other people have so much advice but none of you can fix the mess we are in all you can do is complaint about what Obama is not doing, if the man could walk on water you would be there to say you should have swim. If it was that easy to fix Bush would have fix it. It did not get mess up yesterday and it will not get fix tomorrow. So save your advice, if this is the same advice you gave Bush no wonder we are in a mess.

PAUL W.   November 26th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Let me guess Mike Pence. All we have to do is elect the same people that got us into this mess in the first place and all will be right with the world again? Never mind the fact that if it were not for the Obama administration and the Fed's quick actions in the early days of this crisis we'd be looking at >25% unemployment instead of 10%. Save your lies for your family on this day Mr. Pence and leave the nation be for once!

Excerpts from Pence Thanks Giving speech only a year ago. Thank you G.W. Bush for putting us in an un winnable war. Thanks for allowing the fed and the banks for putting our economy on steroids. only to give us the imputence to fix the problems of the future. eighter way that's somebody elses problem. even then that's a blessing because we can blame the problems of then on our enemies, seem strong and win election, and if that dosen't work we can always use fear.

Frank from Gilroy   November 26th, 2009 11:20 am ET

Pence was part of the group that created this huge problem and now spews misdirection blame toward the Dems who were in the minority and powerless to stop it. After 11 months of still trying to figure out how bad the system has been broken, it should be a crime for a corporatist hack like Pence to blame others who are doing there best to rectify the worst mismanagement of fiscal policy and war policy in the history of the United States of America. Critical thought process and team work is what is needed not misdirection blame to cover your sins.
