(CNN) - Now we know what the 20 hours of Situation Room sessions were about. This was a forceful, methodical case for sending 30,000 more troops – with a clear exit strategy by July 2011.
A few important things:
· He made it very clear the safety of the American people is at stake, reminding us of 9/11 … and telling us that we have apprehended extremists on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border who were preparing to commit "new acts of terror" against the U.S.
· He also made it clear we are no patsies.
· And he noted that there is no blank check for Hamid Karzai, and the Pakistanis need to stop harboring terrorists.
What remains unanswered: if these nations don't cooperate and reform, what do we do?

We send as many troops as necessary to get the job done as soon as possible. The US is there so let's finish the job. At this point the issue of why are we there or the fact that Obama didn't put us there is a mute point. Obama ran for the office of President and America was at war. Now it is his program although he campaigned on the fact that he would bring the troops home and end the war. We all know he campaigned on lies so get use to it. He is a President in training because of his lack of experience.
What he said maid sense, but I still think we should get out. These people are extremist and they are not going to change no matter what we do or how long we are there. We need to bring the troops home and take care of our own country. BUT, I will support my Presidents decision.
Obama is officially Bush on steroids. I thought it was bad enough he wanted to socialize everything like his predecessor did. Now he wants to invade and further antagonize a people tens of thousands of miles away for a few hundred criminals that can't be caught through conventional war.
It's not like we have money to fund this adventure anyways. China won't lend us anymore, and as the dollar deteriorates substantially in value and unemployment skyrockets, we really can't print or tax more either. Much like the Soviets, we will simply run out of money. There will be too much unemployment for people to put up with.
You guys need to come off the Obama wagon and face reality.
What a complete and total joke. Months and months of dithering and dithering in front of the whole world. And of course he's sending 30,000 troops rather than the 40,000 his general says were needed along with a message to the murdering terrorists and Taliban that he wants out ASAP and certainly by the time he runs for reelection. Anybody that feels safer after this speech really needs to slow down on the Obama Kool-aide!
After 20,000 I's, Me's and Bush's fault anybody who thought this was a good speech is certainly on the low range of the IQ scale. AND for any lamestream so-called journalist to think it was a good speech, they are not in the low range they are not even on the meter. "Hey, Mr. Terrorist we are outa here July 2011 so do whatever your like"
It is a bad situation and he is making the best of it. We should admire his honesty and the thougthfullness.
I am always amazed when a "unqualified politican" makes a statement about something he/she knows little about but is playing to the home town auduience for relection. Let's the experts debate this with the facts...
It's clear to me that Obama is finding that his campaign rhetoric about Iraq and Afghanistan was naive, and I'm wondering how this is playing with his supporters.
Let me be clear: Obama is not clear about most matters. Stop campaigning and do something.
Warning: the top one percent can't pay for everything.
He is relying on the military and a few patriots to lead him in the correct direction but sadly his anti-American soul and his anti-American advisors in the White House will take this in a horrific direction.
Instead of cutting up every little thing the President said in his speech, why not support your President and give him a chance to change the war in Afghanistan. All of the pundits analyze his speeches to death as if they know better than him what is going on. Were they flies on the wall during his many top secret security meetings? Several members of the media should run for President if they think they can do better. He is very clever, has listened to his advisors, has thought this out carefully and deserves a chance to improve the situation in Afghanistan. He certainly can't do any worse than the last administration who completed ignored this war and let it deteriorate under their watch.
Yes so in other words his whole speech was worthless. Its real easy to talk tough and use cute lil slogans etc. But these people do not respect Obama. They know he is weak, and only a paper tiger at best. Amanjhad knows this as well which is why after Obama came to term, he decised to build 10 more uraniupm enrichment plants. He knows that Obama will stamp his feet and then pout, but do NOTHING. We dont need to give ourselves a timetable. We need to give them a time table and the enforce it. But Obama and his crew will never understand this simple concept. he will dilly and dally. the deadline will come..and go and our enemies will know how cowardly and afraid of confrentation Obama is!!
For unlike the great powers of old, we have not sought world domination. Our union was founded in resistance to oppression. We do not seek to occupy other nations. We will not claim another nation’s resources or target other peoples because their faith or ethnicity is different from ours. What we have fought for - what we continue to fight for - is a better future for our children and grandchildren. And we believe that their lives will be better if other peoples’ children and grandchildren can live in freedom and access opportunity.
This to me shows nation building!
The surge is for one year and a half...but the exit is 2013. If we think we cannot win minds and hearts by 2013....to support the Afghans to get to act for their security because their nation is their nation and they are responsible for their nation! Winning hearts and minds sometimes requires Tough love for one People to seize their destiny after decades of wars and stand up now for their own people and be again their own people on their own land!
If these nations don't cooperate and get their act together then we take our troops and come home.

Act at all costs, even without Pakistan's cooperation.
