(CNN) – President Obama refutes Vietnam comparisons and warns that to leave now would put the U.S. in danger of another attack on the homeland. He rejects idea of not sending any troops as an unacceptable "status quo."
The president notes that without a timetable there would be no sense of urgency on the Afghan government.
Great line: "The nation I'm most interested in building is our own."

We may talk about this being an exit strategy but we have to realize that when the commitment is open-ended both Afganis and the Taliban will not work hard to bring out the extremists. Also the commanders will be forced to produce results when there is a time-line and not just 'do the minimal' which we have done for 8 years. This I think is the right approach so that the Afghanis don't think that we are there to occupy their land which is what the extremists tell them to recruit them.
Yes the president is interested in building our own nation... in the mold of community organizers (Alinsky) and Liberation Theologists (Wright) perhaps? Our nation is built on the constitution and declaration of independence etc.– we had our funding fathers, and we are a great success that attracts people from all over the world. We do not need change of our basic rights and liberties!!!!!!
go swiftly after the targets, get them on the run and end them
no prisoners
make liberal use of bombs, think 'carpet bombing'
The terrorists need to know we are willing to do whatever it takes. If Obama needs to let the Afghan government know there is a sense of urgency he should let them know that privately. Seems to me he just wants to soothe his liberal base.
"The nation I'm most interested in building is our own."
I agree, Mr. President. I absolutely agree. And that's why I voted for you.
Obama's months of endless dithering really showed how urgent he thinks Afghanistan is? And his rush to get to an exit also shows how committed he is to the mission. How did we end up with a Commander in Chief like this???
everyone is tactical - you are in a different argument. Strategically the President is sound - Tactical is a congressional argument , Get over it
The President's decision is the right way to go – The Military now needs to deliver and if they do then we will come home.
Cheney is pissed now that He can no longer take advantage of the American Taxpayers with HIS NO BID HALLIBURTON CONTRACT'S.
You are tearing our nation apart with your socialist agenda and spineless body.
When a cause is just, when it helps those oppressed...God is with you. It'sHis promise. This is not a battle of the flesh...it goes much deeper...but we have a Great God who is the mightiest of Warriors...think it's crazy? I don't , I trust God to be with each and every solider that ventures on this, and their leaders. Mountains will be moved.. You'll see and the Victory will be yours for the blessing of this great world!
The Status Quo is unacceptable, so lets get out Afghanistan now and end this madness.
Looks like since President Obama is sending troops, Cheney can call off His future bankrolled terrorist hit on American Soil.
