Washington (CNN) – A proposal to legalize same-sex marriage in the nation's capital won approval Tuesday in the first of two city council votes required for it to go into effect.
The measure was supported by a vote of 11 to 2, according to Doxie McCoy, spokeswoman for the council's chairman, Vincent C. Gray.
The council is scheduled to hold a second vote on December 15. If it passes, the bill would be given to Mayor Adrian Fenty, who has already expressed his support and vowed to sign the bill.

Here we go again. It seems the judiciary and politicians are out of touch with the populace. Remember, any time it has come to a vote, it has been turned down. Isn't that a clear message that people want marriage preserved "as is." Of course if you are opposed, you are a homophobe, or your church or organization will receive threats of violence or vandalism.
Civil rights issues should never be put on a ballot. The majority of people are too ignorant and lazy to research and to fully understand the issues.
Good! Now if we can get to the point when our lawmakers understand that civil rights are NOT subject to popular opinion, but are guaranteed by the Constitution . . . .then we'll be getting somewhere.
Equality for everyone? Sounds like an excellent idea and plan for the United States.

Well, lets just legalize and condone everything. Lets not have any limits on anything. Everyone just do what you want, when you want, however you want, as openly and brazenly as you want and insist that everyone else agree with, fund, and proliferate what you want. Legalize marijuana, no bans on public nudity, or anything else for that matter, since its all a matter of personal rights, right? Surely that will make us a greater society......some things you can rationalize until you are blue in the face, but it doesn't make it ok.
Finally! A place where the pesky voter has no say!!
