Washington (CNN) – Republicans on Monday were quick to pounce on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, for comparing the battle over health care to the battle over the legacy of slavery.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee purchased a Web ad on the popular Drudge Report asking readers: "Do you agree with Harry Reid?"
Those who click on the ad are taken to an NRSC Web site called "Health Care Task Force," which asks readers to sign a petition and "stand up to Harry Reid and his insulting remarks."
Reid, who is in danger of losing his re-election bid next year, made the remarks Monday morning on the floor of the Senate.
"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all Republicans can come up with is this: slow down, stop everything, let's start over," Reid said.
"If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right. When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said slow down, it's too early, let's wait, things aren't bad enough."
he's right ,seem's the republicans are on the wrong side of history a lot! you'de think they would learn.
Hey, Harry—Better pick up a history book. Guess who dug in their heels to stop the abolitionist movement and prolong slavery: Democrats.
Oh I agree. Same story, told once a generation apparently.
Conservatives are often on the wrong side of history, end of story
yeah that's true. though some will never admit it!
For the most part, he is right. I wouldn't put ALL Republicans in that category, but as a whole, it's true.
Reid is a dunce, but on this one he is dead on.
Why can't there be at least minimum intelligence requirements for people who run for public office. That would keep people like Reid home on the farm.
Harry the "undertaker" Reid is an embarassment to this great Nation and the media gives him, the non-president and the rest of the out-of-touch dems a pass on everything important and/or relevant, like when Reid said 'we lost the war' in Iraq and the many other things he's said and that skeleton pelosi has said; it boggles the mind that they consider themselves Americans.
This commentary is beneath contempt when Reid did this all behind closed doors and has shut out all republicans basically from the start. It appears those stalling or slowing things down are those of his own party. I guess when you can't get your own in line out up a smokescreen and blame others even though they have had nothing to do with anything.
This is what happens to a magalomaniac who can't grasp the thinking of those who oppose him. Don't think Harry; just lose your mind! This man has reached his limit and needs to be benched for the rest of his life! This is getting a little scary. This moron is a wonderful example that kind of overbearing government our founding fathers were trying to protect the people from!
I agree with Reid. Republicans have no answer, all they can do is try and slow down the process without an alternative. Oh and he is not lying about the whole slavery thing.
I'm with harry on this one
Thank God, we have the Repulicans to keep the democrats from trashing our country.
Wow – why on earth would he go there?
I'm a very stunned & disappointed Democrat...
D republican don't seem 2 have d interest of America at heart wat thy all wanted is cheap polital score n blackmails.obama victory shock s stil overing in their mind.dem move on rep ar small bees.
More crying and whining from the Republicans, the party of crying and whining. Is there anyone who thinks they are doing anything to solve our problems? All they are trying to do is stop the whole politcal process.
Seems like it to me
Seem like it to me,I'm following it closely and it looks like the Dems are the only people in congress working, the Repubs only have their arms folded and lips poked out like babies.
Typical cnn apologists. Instead of suggesting Repubs targeting Harry, your headline should say that Harry made outrageous and insulting comments that have no place in the Senate. Excoriate "you lie" comments but ignore the crap coming from Dems. You're losing audience CNN but are too partisan to care.
I think Reed is wrong on health care and his wrong on comparing slavery and women rights to opposition the the health care bill
Maybe he could`ve given more examples to explainwhat he meant but I don`t think he said anything that anyone should be offended by. Seems that the gop is forgetting the people they get support from may say yes
Well, I agree with Harry Reid. So here is a petition against YOU REPUBLICANS.
Reid just sounds like a very, very, very desperate man.
Dems message from Climategate to Healthcare-we need to spend as much of your money as fast as possible. You'll never live as good as we do. If there's not a crisis, we'll make one up.
