Palin: 'My heart goes out to Huckabee'

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke about Mike Huckabee's clemency decision and a potential third party run in 2012.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke about Mike Huckabee's clemency decision and a potential third party run in 2012.

Washington (CNN) – Sarah Palin said in a recent radio appearance that Mike Huckabee made a "horrible decision" nine years ago to commute the prison sentence of the man suspected of killing four police officers in Washington, but she added that her "heart goes out" to the former Arkansas governor.

In an interview last week with conservative radio host Lars Larson, Palin called the murders "tragic" and "unfathomable."

"It was a bad decision obviously, but my heart goes out to Huckabee," the former Alaska governor said. "I love him, and I feel bad for him to be in this position. But I feel even worse for the victim's families in this situation. I do feel bad for Huckabee, but it was a horrible decision he made."

Huckabee has said he regrets the decision to commute the sentence of the suspected shooter, Maurice Clemmons, but said he thinks he made the right assessment at the time. Palin said she had never pardoned or granted clemency to prisoners when she served in Juneau.

"I don't have a whole lot of mercy for the bad guys," she said. "I'm on the good guys' side."

Pressed on her political ambitions, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee would not rule out a third party run at the White House in 2012.

"That depends on how things go in the next couple of years," she said. "It really does depend. There are enough Republicans who are realizing, 'Oh whoops, some of us liberal republicans have screwed up.' And I'm not including myself in that group, but some liberal Republicans have screwed up."

Palin said her decision rests on whether or not the GOP does a better job of appealing to its conservative base.

"If the Republican Party gets back to that base, I think our party is going to be stronger and there's not going to be a need for a third party, but I'll play that by ear in these coming months, coming years," she said.

Doesn't this woman ever quick blathering? She's enough to make you abandon your Chevy and throw up your apple pie.

Of course YOU wouldn't have "screwed up" as you so eloquently put it. In your delusional mind the world waits with bated breath for your next revelation and tweet. Sarah, it is the beginning of the end when you start believing your own press. The majority of us still think you are as unprepared and ill informed as the day you first came onto the national stage.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why CNN is so fascinated with Sarah Palin and why the constantly give the libertards two or three shots at her a day, while ignoring the major democratic and liberal scandals. There really must be a liberal bias at CNN and this proves it.

What heart? That creature is rotten to the very core. She'll do/say anything to vanquish her foes, real and imaginary.

So it was NOT a horrible decision. It was the right decision based on facts at the time. Freedom, unfortunately, means people are free to do bad things as well as good.

PHEW. Thank goodness she's on the "Good guy's" side. Would that include former VP Cheney, Mrs. Palin? If it does, does that mean the good guys can torture?

To paraphrase Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word, 'Good'. I'm not sure it means what you think it means."

Who would constitute a "liberal republican in Palin's world? What an odd turn of a phrase, not that everything out of her mouth could not be considered odd.....I'm just sayin'.

Now let me see she has never pardoned anyone, thats because most of her elected time she was out of the office running for the VP slot and then she resigned soon after that, so actually she never had the time too , or she probably would have.

She is so obvious....throw all potential contenders under the bus to make room for her run for the white house....the only chance in hell she could possibly have is to stir up enough of the far far right conservative base...the ones that are less educated and tend to buy into this crap....if that happens, then God have mercy on our country.....

Yes, please keep appealing to "The Base." which is what these days? Poor whites in Red states which feature the naiton's highest abortion, teen pregnancy, meth-addiction and divorce rates who fear anyone that is brown? . Or is it the business elite who thrive on cheap labor from Mexico, have outsourced American jobs to China and have made a mint on the outsroucing of two wars? Run Sarah, run...like you did from the Governer's mansion.

Cool, I'd love Palin to run. I guess she will only provide interviews with Limbaugh, Larson, Hannity, etc. The GOP is going to be a tiny party going forward

Can you imagine having an someone of very limited abilities like Palin as VP or worse still President given the host of extremely complex problems and situations facing the US? But what the heck, they–not I–elected W twice.

Yeah you Liberal and moderate Republicans better get in line with the right wing conservatives in the GOP or Palin is going to start her own Party (Tea baggers, Birthers, Club of Growth, the religious right wing) what she is telling you is that there is no room in the GOP for you if you have different ideas, if you disagree with the right wing conservatives........so you better get to changing your ways or you can't be in the GOP......... What a moron Palin is......she is such a two face.......she feels bad about Huckabee but made it clear she never let any criminals loses.........and by gally she is for the GOOD GUY.........give me a break............News for you right wingers, there's not enough of you to get Palin elected.........she has yet to face the main stream press and that will be disaster.........

Oh please, please, please, please run as a third party candidate!
That will absolutely ensure Obama's second term.

Besides, the GOP desperately needs to fracture into two parties anyways. Perhaps one of them will eventually end up making sense.

Wow, you are pathetic Palin. I don't think Huckabee wants or needs your sympathy for a decision he made years ago and with all the information he had at hand.

Funny how she doesn't mention any condolences for the families of the slain officers! Mike Huckabee isn't the victim here its the police officers who were killed when Mike let this vicious man out of jail, the man's name shouldn't even be mentioned which I'm not. The other victims are the officers families, Lakewood PD, and the community of Lakewood. Maybe Sarah should stop feeling bad for Huckabee seing that it's his fault this happend. SARAH STOP COVERING FOR A FELLOW GOPER WHEN ITS HIS FAULT THIS TRAGEDY HAPPENED. Why are you even commenting on this!

Liberals created the mess our society is in. This creep is just one of millions that are loose in our country. Three or more law enforcement people had him and turned him loose after Huckabee was involved. They don't care about these misfits. It came to a good ending. It would have taken 14 years of expenses if it had gone through the system.

""If the Republican Party gets back to that base, I think our party is going to be stronger and there's not going to be a need for a third party, but I'll play that by ear in these coming months, coming years," she said.

    Thank you, God!

This aspect of the Twitter twit running as a third party candidate is EVEN better than I had ever dared hope and she still has 3 years to work on shredding the republiklans!

A repeat of NY-23 only on a nationwide basis!

Oops, sorry I was a bit too exuberant.
