Cheney makes big 2010 prediction

Dick Cheney is predicting the Republican Party is in for a big 2010

(CNN) - As President Barack Obama nears one year in office, Dick Cheney is predicting the Republican Party is in for a big 2010.

"I think we'll pick up a lot of seats," the former vice president told Fox New's Sean Hannity Tuesday. "Prospects for the Republicans in 2010 are very good."

Next November, all 435 seats in the House and more than a third in the Senate are up for grabs. Democrats will be defending their 258-177 margin in the House and 20-seat advantage in the Senate.

Cheney, who is among his party's most fervent critics of the president, said Obama is in a more vulnerable position than anyone predicted one year ago.

"Right after Obama was elected, there was the view that he was invincible," Cheney said. "He raised more money than anybody else. He had a machine that smashed the Clinton campaign and then won the election, and that he'd be around for eight years and now I think that has changed fairly dramatically."

The vice president also said Obama has implemented "radical" far left policies even though he campaigned as a conventional Democrat.

"He got elected as a liberal Democrat, but conventional in the sense of falling within the parameters of the national Democratic Party," Cheney said. "He's demonstrated pretty conclusively now during his first year in office that he's more radical than that, that he's farther outside the parameters…of what we've traditionally had in Democratic presidents in years past."

But Cheney held back from predicting who in his party is best positioned to take on the president come 2012.

"At this point I'd be reluctant to pinpoint anybody," he said. "It might hurt them more than it would help them coming from me."

Care to offer any examples of these "radical leftist" policies? Would the interviewer bother to ask? No, because it's Faux News' Sean Hannity, the GOP's favorite attack dog. Too bad he, and his guest, the War Criminal Cheney are irrelevant.

Who is Dick Cheney to speak on anything? As if his policies haven't hurt this country enough over the past 8 years. What other sitting vice president creates "The Office of the Vice President" ?

I think Cheney is right. People that sat out the last election, plus a lot of disillusioned voters will come out of the woodwork in 2010 and change the make up of Congress dramatically. At least even the playing field.

Republicans are the ones that have put us where we are today. Who in their right mind would wish more Republican seats? Republicans have accomplished nothing and don't have any solutions or ideas of their own....well, except the ones that will line their pockets with gold. In other words, they yearn for the days of Bush ane Cheney!!

And now for one of the quickest political turn arounds in modern history. How badly does a party have to screw up to turn the country back over this quickly? Ask the president, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid.

By August next year, the predictions will no longer be that rousy. Tackling the 8-year mess isn't easy. But the Republicans rather play politics with people's lives instead of working together for the common good of all Americans. Just look back into history and see how together, we can accomplish much. That era, I am afraid, is far gone, and we are left wih these lunatics on the far right who rather live i nt he 19th century instaed of the 21st century. It is a very sad commentary of who we have become as Americans.

Why would anyone listen to Dick Cheney's predictions. Just look at his prognosticating record; They will welcome us as liberators, oil will pay for the war, they have WMD, etc. On top of it all, he is the main reason why our nation committed war crimes by torturing prisoners. He is scum in my book.

That's good news and bad news. The good news is that since the major plank in the GOP platform these days is keep the Dems from bankrupting the country, they'll be able to do that more effectively. The bad news is that the self-righteous neo-con bigots will be better able to cram their bible-belt "morality" down everyone's throats.

Ah, Dick, poor guy. You must be constantly watching the front door for those cops that will eventually come and arrest you for war crimes. And as far as your predictions, aren't you the one who predicted quick victory in Iraq, and that we would be greeted as "liberators?" How's that prediction working our for you seven years later? I say the prosects for Cheney in 2010 are a criminal indictment for abuse of power, use of torture and violation of the Constitution's separation of powers provision. In reality, propspects for the Republicans in 2010 are not very good because they've given full control of the RNC to the American Axis of Evil: Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh.

LOL – what a bitter and frustrated man. The former VP just can't keep himself out of the spotlight. Luckily the FOX-GOP propaganda channel is always willing to give him an opportunity to "Slam" the president. He's probably right about the GOP picking up seats in 2010. All of those House seats picked up by dems in 2006 and 2008 in traditionally conservative districts will most likely revert back to their ancestral GOP roots. So be it. Has any other President or Vice President demonstrated the lack of class and propensity for telling bald face lies that Cheney has? I mean he basically ran the Bush Administration, which was responsible for running this Country into the ground and publicly said he didn't care about our soldiers lives. Also, I resent the fact that he thinks I'm dumb enough to fall for the argument that Obama is "far left" when the facts right in front of me say otherwise- the guy is pretty moderate.

I think Dick Cheny just represents the hopes of most in his party, that President Obama will fail. They care more about politics than their country. Their great fear is, that he will succeed, and the GOP will wander in the wilderness, like they did in the 30's and 40's.

The only reason that Obama seems so radical is that the GOP has gone so far to the Right that it borders on crazy. I think it's pretty clear from the criticism that Obama has received from the progressive wing of his own party that he's far from Radical.

Meanwhile, Cheney is like Old Man Potter from "It's A Wonderful Life". He continues to say and do things that he would have called traitorous if done while he was in office.

And, to say that the GOP will pick up seats is a pretty safe prediction. Historically, that is what usually happens to party that is in control like the Democrats are now.

I have a prediction, too: in 2010 the Democrats will do fine, with maybe a few lost seats in the House; in 2012 the President will overwhelmingly defeat whatever nitwit the GOP nominates; and Dick Cheney will remain a contemptible human being throughout this period and beyond.

Cheney may be the one in for a surprise. Everyone I know is fed up with Washington, both parties. People are only looking for a way to get off the treadmill. However many independents we have in the race they will have an advantage.

Republicans and Democrates bear responsibility for the mess we are in. All we get is fingerpointing, no accountability, and more of the same that does not work from both sides.

Maybe the Republicans can do something novel like offer real solutions and how they might work as opposed to the standard old low taxes and small government mantra. Seems to me we had the Republican version low taxes and bigger government for eight years to bring us the financial mess.

Washington should get the fact they work for the American people and not special interests (both parties are guilty).
By teh way Mr. Cheney I used to be a Republican. Now I am an independent.

Who in their right mind would vote for the Repulicans? They've ruined everything they touch. Nixon was terrible, Reagan was bad for the economy, Daddy Bush continued the decline and the Dim Son was an unmittigated disaster. Couple that with the GOP being the party of hypocracy, lies and the bought dogs of corporate interests and you have another disaster in the works. The Dems may not be great but voting for the republicans is like trading a bad cold for a dose of the clap.

Mary Matalin said Obama was like Bush in terms of the surge in Afghanistan, but here we have Cheney saying Obama is more radical than even most of America's Democrats. Meanwhile, Michael Moore has maintained this steady drumbeat of complaint that the president is too timid and conventional on health insurance reform and is just unwilling to stand up to powerful vested interests as regards the war.

Seriously, is President Obama a Rohrshach test? Everyone seems to react to him differently and in doing so betray their own built-in biases. Here's a bold statement: In the fall of 2008, America SHOVED YOU AND YOUR PARTY OUT THE DOOR, Dick. You don't have to go home, but please go AWAY.

Sorry, I still remember the previous 8 years with the republicans. Just think if McCain won and the republicans had a majortiy in both houses. Health care would continue to go up, those no good banks would have had much more bailout, unemployment would have ended, the deficit still would go on unchecked, etc. Republicans believe in helping big business and everything will take care of itself. Trickle down economics does not work when there is corporate greed.

I'm not interested in Cheney's failed policy's and views. Of course the Democrats will lose some seats in next year's mid-term elections. It's a natural progression that not everyone will be happy with the incumbent in power and some losses will take place. But to think the country will go back to his policy's is really a pipe dream.

If Obama has surprised anyone, it's because he is a more conventional democrat than he portrayed himself to be. He's bailed out big business and turned his back on his constituency. We might as well have elected Hillary.

I am amazed that Mr. Cheney has been in the news with his disparaging comments so much lately. As vice president we rarely heard from him and he virtually disappeared in the last years of the Bush-Cheney Administration. Where was he then when we needed a LEADER to correct errors? Or was it that the war hawk policies were his? Why wasn't he a critique during the last election? I say to Mr. Cheney that YOU sir are a part of the problem and you are angry that your ideas and desires are no longer in place. Let us not forget that it was you who used Presidential Privilege to hide behind and keep your emails and other correspondence hidden, when congress conducted an investigation on what the Administration knew before we got into the mess in Iraq. I have not forgotten. Sit down and be quiet like you were for 8 years of the Bush Administration. You should have stood up and lead back then.

Cheney's assessment is dead on accurate. The Democrats will pay dearly in 2010 for the devastation brought on by Obama, Pelosi and Reid. You have to be pretty clueless to not understand the damage these clowns have done to the country. Look at the least bad news, the US Government may have their credit rating lowered. Talk about a warning shot to the country!

Cheney's tenure as VP [or President in the background] was the most disastrous, evil, misguided and costly for America and its people in the country's history.

Why anyone, including the media give him air time is beyond comprehension. No doubt his next prediction will be that Sarah Palin will be the next President – another "Mission Accomplished' moment!

How right you you Mr. Cheney. Obama and his parade of loonies (Biden) and fools (Pelosi & Reid) are showing their true radical stipes. This is what the main stream media wanted. They were able to slant things and get him elected, but now that they have proved their social experiment, they are onto business as usual.

    1. The party that holds the WH always loses Congressional seats in the first mid-term.

    2. How is continuing to throw money at the economy in an attempt to fix it 'radical' far-left policies? Bush is the one who started it.

I have a great deal of respect for former vice president Dick Cheney, but this is no revelation of incredible insight. Of course Republicans are going to clean House ( and Senate ) in the 2010 elections. The Democratic congress has abused American voters for giving them a strong majority in congress and their partisan bills have been resounding failures. They bet big and lost.

There is so much pressure from the conservative movement that any republican takeover of congress will be blocked by their own more conservative elements deciding to run as independents. Some seats will change hands, but the overwhelming majority of them will go to Democrats. A few loud and ignorant folks cannot sway enough of the educated voting public, and since the majority oppose the republican healthcare opposition, Dick will be in for a shock.

Dick is a super smart guy. He knows that he will not stand a chance for 2008 due to two war problems. Now, he sees the opportunity is knocking, and he is coming out strong. But, two things are worries me, one is his health, second is "Can we afford to have another two wars with Iran and North Korea?"

Dick Cheney? Really! How can anyone listen to this liar who is directly responsible for all the deaths resulting from going after Iraq and Saddam rather than focusing on capturing or killing BinLaden and the Teleban who enabled Saddam to operate freely and with their blessing. Dick Chey is no American hero but is as villianous a character that ever emreged in America. However, American voters seem to have a very short memory and I guess anything is possible. Every voter should ask "What has the Republican Party or any elected Repbulican done to help America get back on its feet after their 8 years of steering us into the awful messes we were in in every sector – financial, politically in the world, politically with our traditional allies, healt care crises, and the list goes on. Elect Republican? It would be far better for America if the Republican Party goes the way of the Whigs, Torries, Bull Noose Party, etc. Listen to Cheney? What a miserable waste of time.

It may sound good at this time to punish the Democrats but do we really want to return to the dark days of 2000 to 2008 where science was ignored, corporate greed ran rampant, and Republican morality was forced upon us while their leaders continued their hypocritical lives? I like the part where he says Obama implemented "radical" policies. How radical is it when the Bush/Cheney group LIED to the American public.
The GOP have a long history of telling LIES, or at the very least fear-mongering, here is a short list:
The internet rumor in 2007 that Barack Obama is really Muslim. To frighten Americans.
The whisper-campaign about "Death Panels" told by many far-right-folks, including Palin. Another fear tactic and a …… lie!
The LIES told by the McCain/Palin campaign that "Obama pals around with terrorist." Lie.
The lies spouted regularly on AM Hate-Radio by Hannity, Reagan, Savage, etc., and the lies on Faux News.
The LIE told to us by Bush & DICK, that Iraq was building nuclear weapons and had WMD's so we must attack. Thousands of our Troops have died. Millions of Iraqis have died and been displaced.
The GOP's politics of hate, lies, fear and division is vile and just plain evil.

Who cares what Cheney thinks? Why does CNN and so many other media outlets give him so much attention? The Bush/Cheney administration drove the country into the ditch, and in 2008 the citizens of the U.S. choose to reject their policies and head in a new direction. The right wing disrespectfully dubbed Obama "Barack the Magic Negro", but there is no magic. There is only hard work to try and get the country back on a positive track, and it doesn't help when CNN insists on giving a megaphone to the spokesman of a failed administration.

HAHAHAHAHA, Cheney the fortune teller. I dont think one year of the Democrats bumbles will anger people as much as the eight years of the Republican trashing of our country. But, a third party focused on the real problems facing this country would be a nice alternative. The party line Republicans were terrible leaders, the party line Democrats are terrible leaders. I'm going to vote for people that put the country first and not their party. I don't care about all the little hot button issues, I just want the economy running again. The Democrats are blowing their chance to fix the mess created by the Republicans. Neither party looks good to me today. Dick Cheney needs to get his head checked. His predictions are simply based on the natural course in politics. If any party controls the WH, Congress and Senate, it is only normal to get a rebalance of power. That is a good thing by the way.
To trompet around, that this will be a victory of conservatisim, because of a "radical agenda" in Obamas administration, is simply propaganda to rally more support without real substance.
There is nothing radical about taken care of issues, we have put off for to long. The american people are not that stupid, at least I would hope so.

Cheney has shown with his criticism of the president from day one a total disrespect for the office of the president. He should take a cue from his former boss, GW. Gw has remained silent because he is being presidential. Cheney is nothing more than a political clown. 2 weeks ago i did agree with his assessment that the dems were in trouble. But with unemployment finally coming down and health care getting passed the prospects for the dems look much brighter. Its really bad news for GOP for the economy to add more jobs and unemployment to go down. What is so radical about saving our countries economy and trying to provide healthcare standards so people are not destroyed by illness? Cheney should pray that they don't bring him up on charges for disgracing our country with torture. I wish the GOP would go away with the 8 trillion dollar debt they left. We need a new conservative party that doesn’t want to go into people’s bedroom and does want to be fiscally responsible. The GOP has proven to be much more fiscally irresponsible than even the most liberal Democrats. The GOP now says they don’t want any help for small business so take that former GOP base.

Yes, big gains for the GOP – which is getting beaten in the polls by the non-existent "Tea Party." Honestly Dick, the last time we took you at your word we invaded Iraq for no reason.

I hope that super dick keeps chirping because the more he talks, the more people run from the GOP. I find it ironic that this pseudo patriot, who while Vice Chancellor shouted down all opposition to the Iraqi war as unpatriotic, seems to have nothing to do but criticize the President, which gives strength to our enemies. Country before party Dick and Country before war profits.

No, DICK. We are more likely to vote ALL of them out – Repubs and Dems. Why?

    1. Repubs – always say NO and got us into this mess.
    2. Dems – Are not doing enough to satisfy us and deliver REAL CHANGE.

    Go independent 3rd party!

That's what we need...fresh faces, new ideas, no more old men, old money, old campaigns, and old backchannel good 'old' boy networks.

I am looking for a more moderate down to earth representative. The Religous Right, the Conservatives (which they gain much of their support white segerationist and white trsh) are no longer what I want to be associated with!

I think Dick is also hoping that a terrorist attacks the US in order to boost the Republicans chances – that doesn't sound real patriotic, does it?
Maybe the party of No needs to work with the Democrats and accomplish something so they will have a record to run on – otherwise, why would we want to elect a bunch of old white guys who just whine when they don't get their way? Oh yes, they also start wars, tank the economy, spy on US citizens, step on the constitution, ignore laws they don't like, cut their own taxes and cut services to the middle class, ...

Cheney needs to go away! If he truly cared about our country he would work on solutions rather than critizism that so divides our country. It's the divisivness in our country that is tearing us apart! So far the Republicans have not proposed any legislation to help our country move forward. They have only opposed any Democratic legislation proposed. They have only offered nothing positive, only fear and critizism of the current administration. I know there are many very bright Republicans in Congress and the public eye, for the good of our nation, please, please stop dividing our country rather than tearing it apart. Cheney seems to forget that his administration is responsible for everything that is wrong with the economy right now. To believe that Obama would be able to fix Bush's tremendous mess in such a short period of time is delusional. Bush wrecked the country over the course of 8 years and it will take a long time to repair it. I don't recall Cheney flapping his gums so much while Bush was busy making terrible decision after terrible decision. The Democrats will be just fine in 2010.

People are the country, it states We The People and all we hear from congress and that joke of a president are party lines. What Cheney means is that the President had the courage to push the agenda that he spoke about on the campaign trail. The GOP should not take the in fighting in the Democratic party as their shoe in for 2010. The democratic party has 2 major initiative that we are pushing this year: Healthcare and cap and trade. If we get those 2 items before the 2010 elections, we can then concentrate on the economic agenda. Our first goal is to put a halt to the no bid contracts, to stop lobbyist access in the congress, weeding out fraud, waste and abuse in government programs, Don't ask don't tell, the employee free trade act, etc. Democrats may be angry, but I doubt that we will allow the republicans to get in and set this country back.

  276. Steve (the real one)

As most know, politics is cyclical. It is all about the mood of the voters. In 08, the voters were tired of the war and of the poor economy and Obama was voted in. If in '10 and '12 the war is not going well and the economy is depressed, the dems will get bounced. That how it works! For many of us , it is primarly about the economy! If Cap and trade slips throught and increases taxes and electric bills, bye-bye dems!

I can't stand Dick Cheney, but he is right about this one. Obama was elected because of his race and his soothing speeches. How about that energy group that formulated our energey policy? Any predictions about who attended those secret White House meetings? I predict Cheney will use his public option health coverage several times this year to tend to his ticker. I hope his defribulator, paid for by the tax payers who fund his public option health care works real good. I also predict Cheney will not shut up!

I guess Dick Cheney thinks trying to save the economy from the vast failures of the Bush and Cheney Administration are radical. If it had not been for the policies of Obama the country would now be mired in a Global Depression. President Obama will take the White House again when the employment figures begin to rise and along with approval ratings. We have now a President that cares about the average citizen and not WALL STREET. My advice to Dick Cheney is to just go away because you have done enough damage to the economy and sending our troops to die in foreign lands.

What a crock! How he tries to rewrite history – what a liar and a con man. Every emergency that Barack Obama is facing was caused by his administration! They did not watch out for the mortgage scandals, they let Wall Street do what ever it wanted, the started the illegal and incredibly expensive war in Iraq for their own profit, the started but never really cared about Afghanistan, the spent spent spent so their wealthy friends got wealtheir and cared nothing for working people for years! They did not protect our troops , they created a way to keep troops going to war over and over which is destroying our fine young patriots and they did nothing to protect us on 9/11- he actually told the US fighters to stand down! He is a criminal for so many reasons I don't know why I have to see his face or read about anything he has to say – he ought to be in prison for war crimes and outing a CIA agent!
