(CNN) - As President Barack Obama nears one year in office, Dick Cheney is predicting the Republican Party is in for a big 2010.
"I think we'll pick up a lot of seats," the former vice president told Fox New's Sean Hannity Tuesday. "Prospects for the Republicans in 2010 are very good."
Next November, all 435 seats in the House and more than a third in the Senate are up for grabs. Democrats will be defending their 258-177 margin in the House and 20-seat advantage in the Senate.
Cheney, who is among his party's most fervent critics of the president, said Obama is in a more vulnerable position than anyone predicted one year ago.
"Right after Obama was elected, there was the view that he was invincible," Cheney said. "He raised more money than anybody else. He had a machine that smashed the Clinton campaign and then won the election, and that he'd be around for eight years and now I think that has changed fairly dramatically."
The vice president also said Obama has implemented "radical" far left policies even though he campaigned as a conventional Democrat.
"He got elected as a liberal Democrat, but conventional in the sense of falling within the parameters of the national Democratic Party," Cheney said. "He's demonstrated pretty conclusively now during his first year in office that he's more radical than that, that he's farther outside the parameters…of what we've traditionally had in Democratic presidents in years past."
But Cheney held back from predicting who in his party is best positioned to take on the president come 2012.
"At this point I'd be reluctant to pinpoint anybody," he said. "It might hurt them more than it would help them coming from me."

That's good news and bad news. The good news is that since the major plank in the GOP platform these days is keep the Dems from bankrupting the country, they'll be able to do that more effectively. If Cheney thinks Pres. Obama has moved far to the left, ol' Darth has lost his mind. The reason Obama has been a disappointment is that he is not even close to liberal enough. But then Cheney has always been able to say frankly insane things as if they made sense.
As long as all these "gas bags" from the past in the GOP keep talking, the party will get driven further and further into the woods. Here is a clue for you there "DICK", WHEN the GOP finds a fresh face that isn't apart of your Grumpy Old Party re-runners then and only then will the Republicans have a chance at anything other than being a cry baby.

President is trying to reach across to the Repubs but they won't have none of it. If it is not the Repubs way than it is no way.

If America has learned anything, it's that the country works better when one party does not have both Congress and the White House. I hope, for the sake of the country, that Pelosi is no longer Speaker and Reid no longer Majority Leader in January 2011.

And as far as your predictions, aren't you the one who predicted quick victory in Iraq, and that we would be greeted as "liberators?" How's that prediction working our for you seven years later? It makes me sick to hear Cheney talk about politics as if it was a game. The nation and people's lives are at stake. Who cares about who raises the most money?
Dick Cheney has been wrong in just about everything else he has said so I say this prediction is encouraging for Democrats.

After reading Palin's "head in the sand" take on the environment and Cheney's "let's return to those thrilling days of yesteryear," (2001-08, )it's no wonder the Republicans got the US in the mess we are in– both in wars and the economy.
