Dick Cheney is predicting the Republican Party is in for a big 2010

(CNN) - As President Barack Obama nears one year in office, Dick Cheney is predicting the Republican Party is in for a big 2010.

"I think we'll pick up a lot of seats," the former vice president told Fox New's Sean Hannity Tuesday. "Prospects for the Republicans in 2010 are very good."

Next November, all 435 seats in the House and more than a third in the Senate are up for grabs. Democrats will be defending their 258-177 margin in the House and 20-seat advantage in the Senate.

Cheney, who is among his party's most fervent critics of the president, said Obama is in a more vulnerable position than anyone predicted one year ago.

"Right after Obama was elected, there was the view that he was invincible," Cheney said. "He raised more money than anybody else. He had a machine that smashed the Clinton campaign and then won the election, and that he'd be around for eight years and now I think that has changed fairly dramatically."

The vice president also said Obama has implemented "radical" far left policies even though he campaigned as a conventional Democrat.

"He got elected as a liberal Democrat, but conventional in the sense of falling within the parameters of the national Democratic Party," Cheney said. "He's demonstrated pretty conclusively now during his first year in office that he's more radical than that, that he's farther outside the parameters…of what we've traditionally had in Democratic presidents in years past."

But Cheney held back from predicting who in his party is best positioned to take on the president come 2012.

"At this point I'd be reluctant to pinpoint anybody," he said. "It might hurt them more than it would help them coming from me."

Wishful thinking. We will either vote out the incumbents or vote in true Democrats or Independents before voting in any more obstructionist Republicans.

The GOP will not continue to scare/fear their way back into power. They will need to show they have solutions to help us all not continue to help/support only the rich.

The Dick Cheney prediction is based on wishful thinking more than anything. He fails to take into account that the GOP will likely be fractured in 2010 with Cheney, Palin & the neo-nazi talking heads like Rush wanting GOP politicians taking loyalty pledges and alienating the more moderate voters in their party. While I do think the Dems will loose seats I do not think it will be a landslide. Oh, and personally I think that Cheney is a traitor and war criminal.

I am an Independent. I will not vote Republican in '10 unless the party dumps it's hate mongers. McCain's campaign turned me off of anything Republican.

"radical" far left? i have yet to see any sort of radical far left actions. And if they actually happen, I hope they neutralize Bush and Cheney's "radical" far right policies. How quickly we forget how they trampled all over the U.S. Constitution.

Cheney – it's time for you to bow out. Your aim may be to take up hunting! Your administration is over,
and the cause of all our current day problems.

Cheney's assessment is dead on accurate. The Democrats will pay dearly in 2010 for the devastation brought on by Obama, Pelosi and Reid. You have to be pretty clueless to not understand the damage these clowns have done to the country. Look at the least bad news, the US Government may have their credit rating lowered. Talk about a warning shot to the country!

Obama's drop to 47% approval will continue to drop, Reid will not be re-elected and the Democrats will lose control of the House. The American people will restore the balance and sanity that divided government brings.

I only hope we survive until 2010 with these lunatics running the asylum!

Cheney's tenure as VP [or President in the background] was the most disastrous, evil, misguided and costly for America and its people in the country's history.

Why anyone, including the media give him air time is beyond comprehension. No doubt his next prediction will be that Sarah Palin will be the next President – another "Mission Accomplished' moment!

How right you you Mr. Cheney. Obama and his parade of loonies (Biden) and fools (Pelosi & Reid) are showing their true radical stipes. This is what the main stream media wanted. They were able to slant things and get him elected, but now that they have proved their social experiment, they are onto business as usual.

    1. The party that holds the WH always loses Congressional seats in the first mid-term.

    2. How is continuing to throw money at the economy in an attempt to fix it 'radical' far-left policies? Bush is the one who started it.

    3. Yes, Dick. You would hurt any candidate just like you continue to tarnish your party every time you pipe up.

Cheeny had his chance for 8 years and blew it big time. Ge and Bush are responsible for the wosrst attack on American soil in the history of this country. They destroyed the economy and raided the treasury.
He just needs to shut up.

I have a great deal of respect for former vice president Dick Cheney, but this is no revelation of incredible insight. Of course Republicans are going to clean House ( and Senate ) in the 2010 elections. The Democratic congress has abused American voters for giving them a strong majority in congress and their partisan bills have been resounding failures. They bet big and lost.

When are these idiots ever going to understand that it's not about Republicans or Democrats? It's about the American people! We're the ones who are hurting while they're up in Washington jockeying for position, lying to keep their jobs and scaring the rank and file.

There is so much pressure from the conservative movement that any republican takeover of congress will be blocked by their own more conservative elements deciding to run as independents. Some seats will change hands, but the overwhelming majority of them will go to Democrats. A few loud and ignorant folks cannot sway enough of the educated voting public, and since the majority oppose the republican healthcare opposition, Dick will be in for a shock.

Did he predict that the Iraqis would welcome us as liberators, and that the oil revenues would pay for the war?

Dick is a super smart guy. He knows that he will not stand a chance for 2008 due to two war problems. Now, he sees the opportunity is knocking, and he is coming out strong. But, two things are worries me, one is his health, second is "Can we afford to have another two wars with Iran and North Korea?"
I just wondering who will vice president (Sara Palin)?

Dick Cheney the infallible also predicted the events of 9/11, the presence of WMD (including nuclear weapons) in Iraq, predicted the 'mission accomplished' in Iraq, predicted and delivered the healthy and booming economy GWB and he worked so hard to get for all of us – and he did all this while beating Osama Bin Laden's record for hiding out in caves. His first name says it all, does it not?

Cheney is an old, crusty crook who needs to just go away. Why the Obama administration didn't ensure he and Bush were arrested for war crimes is beyond me.

Please go into hiding like you did during 911. That is the best place for you. You have more comments now than you did the whole 8 years in office. Everytime you open your mouth, nothing good comes out. You should be happy the you are sitting pretty with all the oil money you and bush made for 8 years. Please go into retirement and practice silence.

After what the Bushies/Republicans have done to this country, do you really think the American people are going to trust the Republicans again?

PERFECT! These guys are soooo focused on winning and defeating the President that they have lost interest in what the AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT!!! Cheney doesn't care. He just wants to win so he can hold on to power and keep his rich friends happy with lucrative Govt contracts.

If the Republicans had such GREAT and WONDERFUL ideas...why did they get the boot last year? You think the whole party has changed in one year? I think not...same BS.

Dick Cheney? Really! How can anyone listen to this liar who is directly responsible for all the deaths resulting from going after Iraq and Saddam rather than focusing on capturing or killing BinLaden and the Teleban who enabled Saddam to operate freely and with their blessing. Dick Chey is no American hero but is as villianous a character that ever emreged in America. However, American voters seem to have a very short memory and I guess anything is possible. Every voter should ask "What has the Republican Party or any elected Repbulican done to help America get back on its feet after their 8 years of steering us into the awful messes we were in in every sector – financial, politically in the world, politically with our traditional allies, healt care crises, and the list goes on. Elect Republican? It would be far better for America if the Republican Party goes the way of the Whigs, Torries, Bull Noose Party, etc. Listen to Cheney? What a miserable waste of time.
