(CNN) – A South Carolina House panel voted down a resolution Wednesday to impeach Gov. Mark Sanford, but the embattled Republican faces one more procedural hurdle before his survival in office is guaranteed.
In their final meeting to consider the impeachment resolution, members of the special House subcommittee called Sanford's behavior "reprehensible," "arrogant" and "indefensible" - but six of the seven lawmakers on the panel concluded that the Republican's behavior does not rise to the constitutional level of impeachment.
Sanford has been under scrutiny since June, when he left the country for five days to visit his Argentine mistress without informing his staff or the Lieutenant Governor of his whereabouts.
Under House rules, the measure will also be considered by the full Judiciary Committee, but it's unlikely the committee would come to a different conclusion than the subcommittee.
Lawmakers will still considering a bill to censure Sanford.

Good! Very Good!!
Good ol' boy politics at it's best !
Finally, let's move on to more important things like jobs.
well isn't this interesting. the republicans tried to impeach clinton for being in an ucompromised position with lewinsky. However, don't cry for me argentina sanford can use state funds to frequently fly to argentina to have a long term affair with his mistress and this is not grounds for impeachment. well hot darn. more hypocricy from the so call party of family values.
If he was a democrat he would have been impeached!!
Of course they are not going to impeach one of the good ole boys, all these rednecks stick together. South Carolina is the biggest joke out of all the states. They have had more corruption, infidelity and racist remarks come out of there than any other since President Obama took office Not to mention L graham, he looks like the grand dragon.
he is a waste of time and money
wow and the repubs. tried to impeach clinton for a lot less. typical hypocrisy from the right-wingers.
Of course the repugnants would not view what this bum did as behavior requiring impeachment. Sometimes I am amazed at the hypocracy of so many. This scumbag used public money for his affair, betrayed the trust of every single person in South Carolina INCLUDING HIS FAMILY, and yet he is allowed to remain? Is there any wonder why this country is in such bad shape???
Now can they get on with business like we all knew they would?
Certainly by now it was evident there would be nothing done except by his wife.
As I said in an earlier post, this whole process is just a show of the SC republicans trying to save face. Sanford being impeached in a state that is controlled by radical "neo-con" extremists in the republican party is zero, nada, zilch!.
Surprise Surprise Ignorant leaders leading an ignorant state
Can you say " Good Old Boys"
What it means to be a Republican these days: Rail against Democratic efforts to provide health care to Americans and undermine their efforts to invigorate the economy while saying "boy will be boys" and giving a pass to a corrupt, morally bankrupt fellow Republican.
They apparently set the bar pretty high for Repugnants to be impeached in South Carolina. For Democrats like Clinton, it was set pretty low (like around waist level, hehe), but for Bush and Cheney, it was somewhere in the stratosphere. Talk about some guys who really got away with murder, literally. That's Bush/Cheney.
Ethics committe voted Chris Dodd did nothing wrong, and someone bought him a house in Ireland, while he was covering for country wide mortgage, and getting VIP treatment on loans.Giving AIG Bonuses, and we still only know that his wife worked for AIG,no other reason is necessary I Guess?...WHile Charlie Rangel donates to the re-election of the members on the Ethics committee, and expects nothing in return,Sure.
Now did anyone think republicans in South Carolina would impeach another Christian Value, Family virture man Republican, SC ranks at the end of all the scales and those law makers and their South should have won the war supporters can't see their nose in spite of it being between their eyes.
South Carolina House panel voted down a resolution Wednesday to impeach Gov. Mark Sanford. It's time to move on. six of the seven lawmakers voted does not rise to the constitutional level of impeachment. Move on.
Wow, This was incredibly weak on their part. There is no justice in South Carolina when a man guilty of moral outrages, as well as dereliction of duty towards the state can't even be impeached shows SC has a serious problem with their ethical and moral compass
Cheating on your wife is not grounds for impeachment. This is so stupid.
"House subcommittee called Sanford's behavior "reprehensible," "arrogant" and "indefensible" – but six of the seven lawmakers on the panel concluded that the Republican's behavior does not rise to the constitutional level of impeachment."
Interesting – I seem to remember Bill Clinton being impeached on almost the same charges...and he did'nt even ABANDON his post as President (as this clown did as Governor...for how many days while no one knew of his whereabouts??!). I sniff a little hint of selective politics here ......
I am happy for Mr. Sandford..remember where to give your thanks...and as Jesus would say...go, sin no more. i pray you find your way back into the graces of your wife, which means so much more than your job.
It's a shame so many stones are thrown when each and every person on this earth has it's own personal sins to contend with....I agree he has to set ethical boundaries..no more traveling around without accountability. Remember, His good work overshadows his faults.
So the hypocrite dodged the bullet. Is anyone really surprised that the hypocritical GOP can always find a way to excuse their own but no one else. yet still the GOP can't figure why they only have 19% of the nation. If they would take a long look in a mirror and they might find out why, although I doubt it.
"reprehensible", "arrogant", and "indefensible". Were they referring to upgrading to first-class? That seems to be the only thing they are focusing on. They are all in denial about his abandonment of the state while on a secret adulterous rendezvous. Let us refocus the attention to upgrading to first-class. It will put a better light on our Republican party. Focusing on adultery will make us seem hypocritical. Lets allow a long time to go by before we even focus on the plane tickets. The longer we wait, the less chances we will have to put our Republican governor in a bad light by impeaching him. Reprehensible – yes, arrogant – yes, indefensible – yes, but he would make a great Republican governor for the state of South Carolina. Our kind of man. A man's man. Boys will be boys. Let us let it slide.
There's an old song. "The hangman wasn't hanging so you go back Jack (Mark) and do it again, and again.
And you wonder why people do not trust government !
And Repulicans giving this loser a walk is a surprize????
The party of family values seems to be focused on everyone else's bedroom except their own. The hypocrisy can be smelled all the way to California.
We can only shake our heads about his abandoning his post and getting away with it.
As hard as the liberals circle the wagons when one of their own foul up makes DEM complaint:
1. Invalid
2. Hilarious
3. Ridiculous
4. Hypocritcal
and NOT neccessarily in that order!
Rangle has his taxes and rent controlled apartments and Dodd had sweetheart mortage. These are but 2 DEM examples! If this was an average Joe, it would be bye-bye! In short, the dems do the same thing. Doesn't mean its right! Just a fact!
