Lieberman a major problem for Senate Democrats on health care

Washington (CNN) - A few weeks ago, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said colleague Joe Lieberman was the least of his problems in passing a health care bill.

Today, Lieberman has emerged as the main obstacle to Reid's efforts to get a health care bill through the Senate before Christmas, if ever.

An independent from Connecticut who sits with the Democratic caucus, Lieberman ratcheted up his public opposition to the bill Sunday. On the CBS program "Face the Nation," Lieberman said he would join a Republican filibuster if the bill contained either a government-run public health insurance option or a proposed alternative to the controversial provision - expanding Medicare to people as young as 55.

Lieberman also called for eliminating a provision to provide long-term home health care to the disabled while adding more cost containment measures to the $848 billion Democratic bill.

Now, if you all just step back and think about what Joe is trying to say. The health care bill has a provision to cut back funding on Medicare/ they want to write into the bill opening Medicare/Medicaid to people 55-64. But how can you do that if you are cutting back funding it in the first place?

He is not a problem. He is a hero for the hard working Americans that would otherwise have to pay for this monsterous robbery that represents a gift from Obama to the irresponsible products of our NEA dominated system.

Why is it when I see the picture of these two it reminds me of the roman senators from "Gladiator"? Corrupt, power hungry, etc.

It mystifies me why the Democrats–particularly Harry Reid–are trying so hard to commit political suicide trying ram this egregiously bad bit of legislation down America's collective throats. As of today, only forty percent of American voters favour the Senate bill, and well over half oppose it–and those numbers are sliding more and more "against" as more and more people become aware of the astonishingly idiotic provisions of the bill.

There are a lot of things about Lieberman's politics I don't like, but if he can do something to keep the country from sliding further into bankruptcy, great.

So one man alone is holding back the Dumbocrats how sweet. One thing about Lieberman he stands his ground on what he believes in vs. going with the flow.

Why is it that everyone thinks helping disabled people get long term home health care will increase costs. It doesn't. If disabled people can't get care in their homes, they wind up in long term facilities that cost a great deal more. Most of them do not have insurance to pay that cost, so the government, state and federal, in medicaid and medicare pay for it. Paying a nurses aide to go to the patient's home and sit with the patient and help him with ADLs is much cheaper than paying for the room alone in a nursing home. What kind of idiot is Lieberman? Maybe we shouldn't answer that, it probably isn't printable for public viewing.

A public option and great medical care is a basic right for... every member of Congress, not the American people. Thanks, Joe. Thanks for nothing.

If we get nothing from this horse it will be because of Lieberman and the GOP saying no to everything that benefits people instead of the insurance & pharmaceudical companies.

Joe Lieberman has shown the American people, he truly is a Republican at heart ! The Democrats as well as the President should stop playing with him and lower the boom on this party of No member. You can not play on one side of the street and say you support the other. The conclusion for the American people is we serve the rich and BIG business! The Senate has NO decency with a 60 majority Health Care Reform should have been a slam dunk ! The America my parents grew up cared about their neighbor, now the only thing people care about is the almighty dollar and just don't change my health care, let the people without health care, "pull themselves up by their boot straps !" But it is okay to spend 1 Trillion in one year to start a war with Iraq and send billions of dollars there, just to see it disappear in the atmosphere and NO one says a word ! Shame on us, if we let Joe Lieberman force us to abandonn our principals to denied coverage for the disabled !!!

Lieberman is not Reid's major obstacle, this horrible health-care bill that will do nothing to improve health care and will, in fact, make it more expensive and lower quality, is the obstacle. Every other major bill like this over the past 80 years has had wide, bi-partisan support. This bill is nothing more than a way for the Democrat party to enslave more of the population by buying them off with dreams that never come true, and thank goodness Lieberman is getting in the way of their plans.

Strip him of any and all chairs and committees he sits on. Reduce his income to the lowest humanly possible.
Make him "suffer" for his failure to support his fellow Americans, in favor of his corporate handlers/owners.

Lieberman is a "Judas" and has no credibility. The Democrats failed to deal with him during the campaign and the Republicans don't trust him. It's past time for Lieberman to be dealt with firmly and stop feeling sympathy for him, he's a modern day Judas.

Harry, take his chairmanship away from him and let him caucus with the GOP. Joe cannot even remember that health reform is one of the major issues he campaigned on in 2006 while running for the senate.

He has become quite a republican.

Lieberman’s loyalties are not to Democrats, Republicans or his constituents. What is clear is that Lieberman’s loyalties are to a completely different country then the US.

Lieberman is now aligned with Republicans and singularly focused on defeating President Obama by making healthcare Obama’s “Waterloo.”

Lieberman is negotiating in bad faith, stringing the Dems along, pretending to agree with the bill in principle only to pull out for a pretextual reasons at the last minute in order to delay the Dems and confound Raid’s strategy.

Lieberman is enemy #1 of the progressive movement’s attempts to bring about seriously needed reforms.

I just hope Lieberman has plans after the next elections....he does and says anything for attention and definitely not in support of the people of his state but more into lining his pockets with lobbyists cash/perks....acting like the average republican!
