(CNN) - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger – who has backed strict new emissions controls to combat climate change – made a comment Tuesday that's sure to raise some heat, especially in GOP circles.
The Republican governor of California is questioning the motives of a high-profile opponent of the idea: Sarah Palin.
The former Republican vice presidential nominee and former Alaska governor has questioned whether human activity contributes to climate change, and written op-eds blasting the cap and trade policy promoted by the Obama administration to limit emissions. Last week, she called on President Obama to boycott the Copenhagen conference.
"You have to ask: what was she trying to accomplish?" Schwarzenegger, in Copenhagen for the international climate change summit, told the Financial Times. "Is she really interested in this subject or is she interested in her career and in winning the (Republican presidential) nomination? You have to take all these things with a grain of salt."
Palin, dubbed a climate change "denier" by Al Gore, slammed the former vice president for promoting "doomsday scenarios": "Climate change is like gravity – a naturally occurring phenomenon that existed long before, and will exist long after, any governmental attempts to affect it," she wrote in a Facebook post last week.

Now, now, I'm sure Ms. Palin has all the very best data... that the oil companies would provide her. I certainly don't agree with everything Governor Schwarzenegger has done or proposed, but I'm glad at least one Republican governor is willing to concede the possibility that PEOPLE WHO HAVE SPENT THEIR ENTIRE PROFESSIONAL LIVES STUDYING THE SUBJECT EXHAUSTIVELY might have a better handle on what's going on. Our current warming trend doesn't fit on any kind of "natural" scale, people... Provide an explanation or leave the table, the adults are talking.

Republicans need to go with a Megyn Kelly/Barbara Mandrell ticket in 2012. Megyn Kelly is hotter than Sarah Palin. Barbara Mandrell can play a mean fiddle. Both know more than Palin does about climate change.

Anyways, Schwarzenegger can associate himself with any political party, but he has proven for quite a while now that he's above party politics, and will do what's best, instead of the other cookie cutter republicans want him to do.

To those who don't see the risk in having deeply religious people in power, Palin is a prime example of the immense danger involved. There is no doubt in her mind that Jesus is going to come back in a few years (these people always think it's gonna be in their lifetimes... funny how that's always the case) and clean up this mess we made, so why should we bother? Faith will trump common sense or scientific evidence 10 times out of 10.
Sarah Palin is only doing whatever she has to,to get her name into the media. the woman, like any other politician, is making statements that she hopes will win her votes in the conservative Republican circle. she's pandering to the crowd she hopes will vote her in, in any capcity, into Congress. once there, she's a voice for the dying breed of ultra conservatives that were spawned in the Regan/Bush era's. any power she has is given to her by talk radio, investigative tv reports, or something her family has done. she's yesterday's news if you leave her alone.
When people say that the current warming of the earth is not a result of human behavior have a lot to learn about science. Warming happens over a period of tens of thousands of years in which we go through cycles. NEVER before have we seen carbon levels jump so fast in such a short time. The extra gain in CO2 starts in the 1850's with the start of the industrial revolution and grows exponentially to the present. We are pumping stored carbon buried for millions of years and burning it and it ends up in the atmosphere. We are burning the equivalent of the volume of lakes every year that does not go back into the ground. To deny these facts goes beyond stupidity it is pure 100% lies!!
