Palin meant no disrespect with blacked-out hat

(CNN) - Sarah Palin said she meant no disrespect to the man that elevated her to the national scene after she was photographed wearing a visor on which Sen. John McCain's name had been blacked out.

The gossip Web site TMZ ran photos of the former Alaska governor vacationing in Hawaii earlier this week in which Palin is shown with a McCain campaign visor with black marker covering the ex-presidential candidate's name.

The Web site declared the hat a "frontal attack on Sen. John McCain," but Palin told Politico she was merely trying to "be incognito" while vacationing in Hawaii.

"I am so sorry if people took this silly incident the wrong way," Palin said in a statement to the Web site. "I adore John McCain, support him 100 percent and will do everything I can to support his reelection. As everyone knows, I was honored and proud to run with him. And Todd and I were with him in D.C. just a week ago. So much for trying to be incognito."

A Palin source confirmed the accuracy of the former vice presidential candidate's comments.

The four term Senator McCain is up for re-election next year.

The vacation comes a month after Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life," hit book stores. Palin launched an around-the-country book tour soon after and has since visited more than 30 cities.

The press takes pictures of anyone who even LOOKS loke Palin these days, and she sees "incognito" as wearing a visor? Let's forget about the fact that the visor has her former running mate's name blacked out and forget about politics for a moment. "Incognito" equals visor!? That's about as clever as a Groucho mask.
Now... the dillema... her hat has the name of her former running mate on the front of it. Either she blacked this out and packed it in her bags OR she found it, found a sharpie, and took the time to color it in... instead of purchasing a new hat at the hotel gift shop. I've never been fortunate enough to go Hawaii, but I'm going to bet there is a place you can get a different head cover... MAYBE even one without any of the former presidential cadidates' names on it.

I am sure Sarah Palin has a good number of hats she could have worn or buy a new one. To wear an old hat with McCain's name blacked out is so ridiculous on her part. She knew exactly what she was doing and the controversy it would create. For her to call it a "silly incident" is PURE SARAH PALIN and exaclty why she should not be in any poliitcal office. Please make her go away for good!!

It would seem to me to be more appropriate for CNN to move the Sarah Palin "irritainment" articles to the "Entertainment" section of their web site. She is a wonderfully interesting "B"List entertainer, and seems quite happy in that role. This is a filing issue, not a reporting issue.

It appears that Mrs. Palin is smarter than the average politician...She has very clever ways of staying in the news.....way to go Sarah!.....why would she black it out?.....Ask yourself that question....remember she just received around a million dollars advancement on her book.....wearing a campaign hat....this Lady is SMART

OK, I understand Palin has a large following which makes some of what she says newsworthy. But I find that reporting on everything this mediocrity wears or does is completely irrelevant to anything important.

Why can't she buy a new hat? They certainly sell lots of hats in Hawai'i that would make her look more like a tourist. I don't think she would be that poor...

Incognito, my A$$! She is just trying to keep her name in the news while on vacation. She's got books to sell, you know! If anyone believes anything that comes out of this woman's mouth, you are a fool. Perfect example – she quit on Alaska because the legal bills were too costly for her state. BULL! She had a book to write and a short time to do it. She didn't have time to govern AND write. She chose millions of dollars for herself OVER her beloved state of Alaska. Now can we please let her fade into obscurity where she belongs?

Sure hope Palin is on the Prez ticket in 2012, imagine the fun we could have with that scenario as she proves to be an endless source of amusement or amazement, whatever the case may be, in that her supporters are just as stupid as she is.

Boy, you libs sure are scarred of Palin. Picking on every single little thing regarding her. If she was truly as dumb/bad/insignificant as you all like to claim you sure wouldn't be on here posting every time a story comes up about her. Never mind the fact that she could have done a way better job than the dunce that's currently sitting in the President's chair.

And there will come a day in January 2013, after the disgrace that is Obama leaves office. When a decent minded Conservative Republican is sworn in as President. When all decent, true Americans will say "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty we are free at last!"

I believe that "Carmen Miranda" style hat would make Mrs. Palin much more incognito. Juts lots of fruits and nuts, the usual ...
I also noticed that in order to be incognito she went to Hawaii, while, of course, deep in her heart she would rather be nowhere but in Alaska!

Give the woman and her family some peace. How far do you have to go to be on a peaceful vacation? I would have blotted out the name also, if I realized it was the only cap I had at that time. If she had not and wore the cap with McCain name, what would the gossip be?
And as most of you viewers stated "Oh why didn't she go out and buy another hat, couldn't she afford one?" Well this is par for the course, just buy, buy, buy. THINK !!! That's why we are in the economic situation we are in!
?Why are almost all the printed comments negative? Oh yes, they are moderated by CNN and only printed if deemed appropriate.

Just another ploy to get her name back into the headlines. I really can't believe how many media outlets continue to buy into the bs. The book show is over...how else is she supposed to keep her tattered name into the headlines and fresh in the minds of the poor souls that still think she's the best thing since sliced bread?!? Palin is pathetic!

It continues to amaze me that Palin has any supporters at all, are they as woefully ignorant as she is? Actually "ignorant" may not be the operative word, as she sure knows how to get publicity and keep her name before the public. If some folks are stupid enough to select Palin as their presidential candidate in 2012, they deserve what they get, and for the rest of us, it provides an endless source of amusement regarding her stupidity. Go Palin!!
