(CNN) -Gov. Rick Perry was once a close ally of Democrat Al Gore, but the Texas Republican made clear Wednesday he and the former vice president no longer see eye-to-eye.
"I certainly got religion," Perry told the Dallas Morning News. "I think he's gone to hell."
Perry, once a Democrat, ran the Texas chapter of Gore's unsuccessful presidential bid in 1988. Then a member of the Texas Legislature, Perry announced a year later he was switching to the Republican Party.
Perry, a two-term governor who's up for re-election next year, is currently engaged a heated Republican primary battle with Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
With the Copenhagen climate change conference underway, it's the season of Gore bashing for some Republicans. The former vice president also took heat last week from Sarah Palin, who declared Gore was pushing "doomsday scenarios."

And these types are leaders of our country? God help us.
Flip --- Flop
Typical Oil man from Texas.
Perry is going down next election. What a hypocrite. Changes colors to whoever advances his political carreer.
No one care about your religion Mr. Perry.
What can I say – feel real sorry for you folks in Texas. Hate mongering dirty rotten republicans at it again.
Nice to see that political pandering is still alive and well in Texas. The key point in the article is this:
"Perry, a two-term governor who's up for re-election next year, is currently engaged a heated Republican primary battle with Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison."
"Up for re-election next year" and "heated primary battle" always make for these kind of statements.
Its kinda funny how a ridiculous teabagger like Perry thinks he is smarter than a Nobel Prize winner. Perry is dumber than a sack of hammers and any one that lives here knows that. He is an embarassment to Texas and needs to go plan his little sissy tea parties somewhere else. All hat and no cattle.
Perry MUST be a brother to George Bush. That would explain everything
Umm, how should I ask this? Texas, and Governor Perry, please please please PULLEASE! secede. Pretty please. You can do it on your own, really. You're Texas after all. Whatever you can't make you can just steal from Mexico. Or the new border states of Oklahoma and Arkansas.
So hurry up and go. And please take that dipstick from Alaska with you.
Gore is a loon and a liar. Based his "movie" on biased and manufactured information to suit his own agenda. Radical liberals however still try to claim that the data was accurate even when the data ignores them.
The truth is that Global Weather Change has occurred with or without man-made interference and that there are numerous other factors which weigh much more heavily on our planet.
Should we be more aware and conscious of how we affect our environment? Absolutely. Should it be the highest priority and should we spend billions of dollars for other countries? Hell No! There are other priorities for our tax dollars, and much cheaper ways that we can try to improve our environment.
If he is so concerned about hell, maybe Gov. Perry should leave Texas...
It DID say re-election, didn't it?
Power hungry have pretty much ALL sold their souls to stay on the political gravy train, why not sell out the planet?
Rick Perry is the embodiment of the shameful ignorance that resides in Texas. What's worse is that he is not stupid. He knows what he is doing. He caters to the tea party crowd, the ignorant and the uneducated because he believes that they are the majority here in Texas.
Kay Bailey is a lot better, but how can you support anyone who is endorsed by the evil criminal mastermind Dick Cheney. (I'm gonna start calling him Lex Luthor)
BILL WHITE FOR TEXAS GOVERNOR,
TURN TEXAS BLUE!!!
The Earth is going to hell Perry, not Mr. Gore. The polar icecaps are melting, desalinization of the oceans is occurring, the once great glaciers will be gone within our children's lifetime and their is great destabilization of 'typical' weather patterns for each season. Mr. Gore has been calling attention to this issue, that is only worsening, for years now and he's been poo-pooed. This administration is proactive and intelligent. They can see (and feel) climatic change, and are intelligent enough to understand and process the overwhelming data that supports it.
Folks like you, Perry, need to get together with dingbats like Sarah and work on that secession document TOUT DE SUITE!!! Leave the saving of the planet and the ecosystem to folks with the intellectual capacity to understand the issue, and not be derailed by Big Business pay-offs.
As a born and bred Texan, "King" Rick Perry absolutely makes me sick!
He changed for a Democrat to Republican to save his political life. He rose to power when Bush lied to the people of Texas about serving as their governor and not running for President and won his reelection 4 years ago with only 30% of the vote and then claimed he had a mandate to make sweeping changes. Changes like selling Texas highways to a Spanish company that made huge campaign contributions to his reelection or leaving millions of Texans without unemployment coverage..... If Texas has to have a governor with Big Hair, let it be Kay Bailey.
"I certainly got religion... I think he's gone to hell."
I see that we are maintaining a strong tradition of only electing the best and the brightest who are capable of intelligent oration. I really wish the people of our nation could finally separate church and state once and for all... It is not, nor will ever be relevant what someones religion is... I'll refrain from commenting on the global warming denials, I think you can guess what I'd say about that.
Sorry to break it to the greedy naysayers, but Gore's "doomsday scenarious" are quite real. It's amazing that there are still people who doubt global warming exists, that it's caused by pollution, which is caused by humans.
These people who claim to have religion are some of the biggest sinners I've met. Polluting God's earth is a deadly sin, and trying to stop emissions regulation is an equal sin. The burning of fossil fuels should be illegal, no matter what industry suffers or whose jobs are lost. If our planet becomes any more unstable, then money, businesses and the economy won't even matter.
lol...it's hard to rip up a contract when you've already been paid....
but fortunately for Mr. Gore..there is redemption if he chooses to accept it.
Yeah thats a Republican for you they get religion and everyone else that doesn't talk like them, think like them or act like them are all going to hell, ............and in their minds you are WRONG if you are not Christian ...you are WRONG if you don't think like the right wing conservative thinkers like the Birthers and Tea Baggers, or wanting your state to seceed from the United States of America.........yep he sounds like he got relgion.......it's people like him and Palin and the rest of the GOP'ers that push their Better than Thou attitudes and religion that turn America against organized religion............and against the Republican party, because organized religion has the GOP in their back pocket.........
Gore's grip on reality does seem to be a bit shaky. The same could be said as well for most of the global-warming nuts...
Of all the secessionists, I prefer Texas's Perry over anyone from South Carolina.
Both states get more federal money than they send to Washington
Pushing doomsday scenarios? He's not quite that bad. Were he pushing doomsday scenarios, Palin would be portrayed as a serious contender for the presidency. I don't mind when legitimate voices peg public persons, but this low level stuff from absolute nobodies has got to stop. A party-swapping opportunist whose entire leadership has become an example of slight of hand, and a woman who presided over the educational system seemingly only proficient in generating teenage pregnancies? All we need to fill the cowardly lion part is a comment from Joe Lieberman.
I hope he "gets religion" & finally realizes that Gore & the vast majority of the scientific community are RIGHT on climate change & becomes part of the solution & not part of the nay-sayers who don't know beans!
Obviously Perry has NOT read Scriptures! Jesus IS CLEAR "DO NOT JUDGE LEST, YOU BE JUDGED." The DECIDER on who goes to hell is....... God Almighty!
How arrogant of Perry to presume he knows the mind of GOD!
Keep bashing Gore.... the day it rains meteorites because our earth can no longer protect us, YOU wont be bashing Gore no more!!!
