Cheney named Conservative of the Year

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

(CNN) - He may have exited the national stage nearly one year ago, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.

"What Cheney is saying, primarily on foreign policy, defense and anti-terrorism, makes sense to more and more American citizens growing increasingly worried by the Obama Administration's insouciance when U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad," former U.N. ambassador John Bolton writes for the magazine.

"Since the only real, long-term way to deal with persuasive positions on substantive policy matters is to refute them with sounder policy arguments, it is not hard to understand why the Obama White House is near panic," Bolton also writes. "Where are they going to go to find a better policy inside his administration?"

In a series of interviews and speeches over the last year, Cheney declared President Obama had put the country's security at an elevated level of risk as a result of a string of national security decisions that largely went at odds with Bush administration practices.

Cheney's comments have met criticism from many Democrats and some members of the media who say he would be better off following the example set by former President George Bush, who has remained largely silent on the actions of his successor.

But in the Human Events article, Bolton said its necessary former leaders continue to defend their policies.

"Most people have scratched their heads at this criticism, which is what passes for devastating analysis by the media, because it is entirely natural for a senior public official to explain and defend his policies once he leaves office," Bolton writes. "In fact, it is critical that men and women who have served in high positions, as Cheney has, to do just that, to give our citizens a better understanding of what actually goes on in high-level decision making."

"Cheney's quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens," Bolton adds. "And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney's solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!"

He nearly ruined our country, dodged the draft 5 times, helped start two wars on bogus "intellegence" while Halliburton made millions upon millions off of the wars he helped start. What an "honor" to be "Conservative of the Year"! And conservatives wonder why they have an image problem?

We are at war ourselves (government and the people). How do we expect to bring democracy to other nations? Not this way. If we want other nations to become a democracy than we need to start with ourselves. The terrorists are using this turmoil to their advantage.

"...insouciance". I had to look that one up, Mr Bolton. People who insist on using long, obscure words are usually making up for some personal shortcoming. Kind of like leaders who promote unjust wars to make up for their lack of service in the military.

For the right wings, narrow minded up there: this Dick and his pal Bush were warned 3 times, before 9/11, that Bin Laden was about to strike the US, but their ARROGANCE kept them from protect America and we're attacked AND THEN they decide to pretend that they're protecting us invading Iraq, creating a story about WMD. WHAT A SHAME !!!

This is what's going to kill the modern day GOP. They don't know the difference between a modern day NEOCON who believes in war, war, war, that deficits don't matter, corporate welfare is good, government should dictate that Jesus is an uber-capitalist, that civil liberties are an old fashion notion and an actual CONSERVATIVE who practices smaller government, balanced budgets, keeping the government out of religion/private lives of adults and stays out of the affairs of sovereign nations.

It's magic! Watch as Wizard Cheney morphs his

"continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies"

into a disastrous war with Iran over oil! (While pretending it's not, of course).

Give me a break, dick! The "sound fiscal policies " of the bush/cheney administration are at the heart of our present financial dilema! But dick & george know that the lock-step right will fall into line, whenever a flag is waved or a bible is thumped....Democrats watch out, dick is eye-balling the Presidency in 2012. And HIS medical coverage is so good, should he have another heart problem, that he can receive a REAL donor heart to replace the Black Hole in his chest.

Bolton....Bolton....hmmm...wasn't he the guy that Bush forced through by posting him to the UN while Congress was on recess, since even members of his own party found his comments to be ignorant and offensive? Yeah, I think that was him. Unless he was the guy that other members of the UN said essentially ground workings at that body to a halt and endangered relations with member countries. Hmmm.....well now that I think about it he was that guy too!!! Good that the conservatives have a solid voice to listen to in the realm of foreign relations!

Cheney is a perfect choice for Conservative of the Year. He embodies the arrogance, incompetence and immorality of the contemporary conservative movement, a movement which would be vigorously denounced by Barry Goldwater because of its advocacy of government intrusion into and control of our lives.

Funny how CNN allows comments on the Dick Cheney article, however they don't on articles that may be difficult for thier liberal position (i.e. Arnold giving the big O an A).

I think Dick Cheney did a fine job and if the left leaning nut jobs would listen to him rather than ranting they might be surprised.

  24. Bye Bye GOP

I laugh at some of the comments that are dropped by the conservatives because, they truly believe what they are saying....That Cheney and Bush were some kind of dream team. They were more like Dumb and Dumber.....These two profitted from their positions during their 8 years in the White House from the blood of soldiers to secure OIL.

Cheney actually made more money than Bush did during their 8 year blunder of an administration. During this 8 year debacle the following occured: our education was and still is in disarray, NOTHING was done about health care, 911 happened on their watch, we sent troops to war into the wrong country (any WMD's found yet?), Katrina hit and they watched it like a TV program barely lifting a hand for 1 week. They never did catch Bin Laden, And our financial system collapsed. Heck, I'd say they did a real great job don't you???

  25. One of the MANY!

    Talk about SPIN!
"U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad" BECAUSE OF THE 8 YEARS OF BUSH ADMINISTRATION POLICIES, NOT OBAMA'S!

We live in a Police State now thanks to these war-mongering TRAITORS! This S.O.B. and his accomplices, right on up to Bush himself, ought to be locked up! Not HONORED!

When is America going to own up and prosecute these criminals??
