Cheney named Conservative of the Year

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.
Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

(CNN) - He may have exited the national stage nearly one year ago, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.

"What Cheney is saying, primarily on foreign policy, defense and anti-terrorism, makes sense to more and more American citizens growing increasingly worried by the Obama Administration's insouciance when U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad," former U.N. ambassador John Bolton writes for the magazine.

"Since the only real, long-term way to deal with persuasive positions on substantive policy matters is to refute them with sounder policy arguments, it is not hard to understand why the Obama White House is near panic," Bolton also writes. "Where are they going to go to find a better policy inside his administration?"

In a series of interviews and speeches over the last year, Cheney declared President Obama had put the country's security at an elevated level of risk as a result of a string of national security decisions that largely went at odds with Bush administration practices.

Cheney's comments have met criticism from many Democrats and some members of the media who say he would be better off following the example set by former President George Bush, who has remained largely silent on the actions of his successor.

But in the Human Events article, Bolton said its necessary former leaders continue to defend their policies.

"Most people have scratched their heads at this criticism, which is what passes for devastating analysis by the media, because it is entirely natural for a senior public official to explain and defend his policies once he leaves office," Bolton writes. "In fact, it is critical that men and women who have served in high positions, as Cheney has, to do just that, to give our citizens a better understanding of what actually goes on in high-level decision making."

"Cheney's quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens," Bolton adds. "And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney's solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!"

Cheney and Bolton both give Conservatism a new meaning; one with zero credibility. Neither of the guys accomplished anything of a positive nature during their tenure in office.

What a great day!!! and Sarah Palin's lie about the "death panels" won 'LIE OF THE YEAR". And their blind followers continue to praise them as if they were majestic beings. They should all be in jail for all their lies that led us into this tragic war. Do all conservatives really believe our troops are dying honorably for fighting a war in Iraq that should have never been waged? And don't try to pen me as a "LIBERAL" just for thinking this way. I voted for GHW Bush and Reagan but I just had enough of the lies these crooks threw out. I guess you can say I OPENED MY EYES. Maybe you die hard "conservatives" should do the same.

If this is what conservatism is all about, then our country will be better off when these teabagging clowns crawl back under their rocks. Cheney defiled our nation's honor as he declared war on decency and the Constitution. Cheney's lying, paranoia, cruelty, and indifference to gross violations of human rights make him one of the most odious figures in our country's history.

Cheney is the very embodiment of the lesser angels of our nature.

Dick Cheney is no true conservative. He is fine with illegal immigration, he never apologized for the foul language he used in public and in his role as Vice President, he (in line with all other recent Administration players) thinks he is above the law. I think he is a terrible person.

Can't we just study the brain of a rethuglican. They obviously don't live in reality and I would like to see how big of a hole they have in their brains.

Reasons why Cheney is "conservative of the year:" Torture is okay if you name it differintly, its okay to borrow and spend money, its okay to spend money in foreign countries, its okay to give government contracts like candy, its okay to police the world, its okay to let terrorist attack our country, its okay to be a racist, its okay to have a dumb person to lead our country (sarah palin & Bush), its okay to take money from the poor and give it to the rich, its okay to have USA be a facist country.

Rethuglicans are not conservatives they are control by the banking industry to bring down the dollar so they can make the amero (america's euro currency).

If "what Cheney is saying makes sense for more and more Americans" I feel truly sorry for more and more Americans. This narrow-minded and, frankly, ignorant interpretation of our "national interests" resulted in 8 invasions on Nicaragua last century. THis is but an example but it is very telling: If you do something once and it doesn't work you can either repeat it or think of something new, if you repeat is again and again and again it it consistently DOESN'T work yet you keep repeating it then, I am sorry you are simply very dumb.
Then again, I am afraid, conservatism and common sense in this country parted their merry ways quite some time ago...

Funny – I don't think even Dick would consider himself a conservative. Let's look at the man's record and try to find some "conservative" values...

hold on – I'm still looking...

    oh, here's one, wait. nope...

ah! He conserved his own hide in the Haliburton scandal. That counts.

Dick Cheney did more harm to this country then the terrorists ever could. He helped to make torture mainstream and convinced the people that it's ok for the government to spy on you without court supervision. He lied so he could start a war in Iraq and sold out US operatives to do it. Obama's gains in foreign policy have dis-proven the chicken hawks claim that might makes right and is the only way to deal with "evil doers".

Cheney presided over some of the biggest follies in American foreign policy history (war in Iraq and letting the worlds unity with American after 9-11 change to disdain).

From the admin that re-defined the phrases, "no bid contract", "war on the cheap", and "regime change."

200 billion dollars per year for two failed wars taking longer than WWI and WWII combined. Meanwhile, 150,000 Iraqi deaths, 3.5 million refugees. All While the country is bankrupt back home.

Health care costs? Doubled since 2001.

    Energy costs? Doubled since 2001.

    Tuition costs?Doubled since 2001.

Wages increased 19%, while inflation was at 17% – a Net income increase of 2% since 2001.

Meanwhile Bush/Cheney sat on the afghan troop increase for 14 months, despite their generals pleaing that they needed 20k extra troops.

"insouciance"?...99 out of 100 Republicans have no idea the meaning of the word due to the GOP continually slashing education budgets because of fears of socialism..
