Cheney named Conservative of the Year

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.
Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

(CNN) - He may have exited the national stage nearly one year ago, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.

"What Cheney is saying, primarily on foreign policy, defense and anti-terrorism, makes sense to more and more American citizens growing increasingly worried by the Obama Administration's insouciance when U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad," former U.N. ambassador John Bolton writes for the magazine.

"Since the only real, long-term way to deal with persuasive positions on substantive policy matters is to refute them with sounder policy arguments, it is not hard to understand why the Obama White House is near panic," Bolton also writes. "Where are they going to go to find a better policy inside his administration?"

In a series of interviews and speeches over the last year, Cheney declared President Obama had put the country's security at an elevated level of risk as a result of a string of national security decisions that largely went at odds with Bush administration practices.

Cheney's comments have met criticism from many Democrats and some members of the media who say he would be better off following the example set by former President George Bush, who has remained largely silent on the actions of his successor.

But in the Human Events article, Bolton said its necessary former leaders continue to defend their policies.

"Most people have scratched their heads at this criticism, which is what passes for devastating analysis by the media, because it is entirely natural for a senior public official to explain and defend his policies once he leaves office," Bolton writes. "In fact, it is critical that men and women who have served in high positions, as Cheney has, to do just that, to give our citizens a better understanding of what actually goes on in high-level decision making."

"Cheney's quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens," Bolton adds. "And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney's solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!"

Federal Bureau of Prisons prisoner #89532684 (aka Dick Chaney) should only be receiving an award for best pressed orange jumpsuit.

I have a good number of friends that are strong conservatives, we respect each other, and I have never felt a need to be critical of anyone's conservative values. I simply can not hold back any longer, Cheney, Conservative of the Year, are you kidding me! I truly feel sorry for my good friends who wear that title proudly.

Obama could learn from Cheney. You can't negotiate from a position of weakness. Stop apologizing for and blaming all problems on the US. Work toward real solutions and stop dwelling in the past.. Stop wasting money we don't have on the expansion of failing, unsustainable entitlements. Our kids are headed toward a grim future of the nanny state throwing them a crumb every once and a while.. if they even make it that far with rising powers developing the "bomb" as we write them letters asking them not to..

.. and The fear-monger comments are hilarious considering what Al Gore and all the liberals are jabbering about when it comes to the environment. No.. that's not fear-mongering at all.. HA!

That's a pretty good summation of the conservative plan of (in)action: Cheney is rewarded, not because of any real accomplishments, not because of any insight or actual leadership, but because he is good at taking potshots from the sidelines.

Now that's true conservative values in action.

Just goes to show that some people just don't get that the policies of this windbag caused so many of the problems we are dealing with now. If you don't like the clean up that's going on now then maybe you shouldn't let losers like Cheney make such a mess of this country.

A true conservative is now defined as someone who criticizes President Obama the most? How far the Republicans have fallen!

That is what being a conservative is today... to criticize anything and everything Obama does or says. It certainly doesn't include offering any solutions to the mess he and jr. put the country in. I mean, the conservatives criticize healthcare reform, but announced they aren't even going to offer any alternative plane..

    Sad..

Also, he was nominated "Former CEO of the Year" from Haliburton for getting them their mulit-billion war contracts for the Iraq War. At a boy luther! Great job for also becoming the "Highest Deficient Spending VP in U.S. History" also. I love those conservative values...

    To Jeff W.,

I never have thought of Cheney resembling "the Emperor from the Star Wars movies". I have always thought of him as more like mean old banker Potter from the "Its a Wonderful Life". He looks like him, and when he came out for Obama's inaugural speech in that wheelchair, well, he simply became the very definition of the part.

Before I went to the article I thought it would be something like:
"Top Creapiest People of the Year".
The conservatives scare me with their tunnel vision on every subject & hypocritical rose colored glasses.

Cheney has damaged this country and does'nt even know it. Simply because of his twisted ideology and thinking. The man over the years has become more and more lunatic and amazingly his right wing supporters are like zombies who see nothing wrong with his thinking which is completely against our constitution.
The right wing in Nazi Germany had the same thinking and they all became like zombies in agreeing and believing twisted ideology.
I once believed in Republican party as being moderate but they have lost the party to extreme fanatical right wing.
We need a third party as a moderate party which is neither right or left, instead in the middle. That's were most of the Americans are about 50%.

Cheney, Palin, Limbaugh....conservatives have become laughable characatures of themselves: narrow minded, rednecked, tough talkers with no solutions. Now this, an affirmation that the Bush years may have been the worst in our history.

In a glaring example of the poverty of intellect on the right, Darth Cheney is named "Conservative of the Year". This shotgun wielding, draft dodging, serial prevaricating, Traitorous war criminal is the best they've got? The guy who committed treason by exposing a CIA operative and then let his aide swing for it? The cowardly lion Cheney? WOW
