Cheney named Conservative of the Year

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.
Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

(CNN) - He may have exited the national stage nearly one year ago, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.

"What Cheney is saying, primarily on foreign policy, defense and anti-terrorism, makes sense to more and more American citizens growing increasingly worried by the Obama Administration's insouciance when U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad," former U.N. ambassador John Bolton writes for the magazine.

"Since the only real, long-term way to deal with persuasive positions on substantive policy matters is to refute them with sounder policy arguments, it is not hard to understand why the Obama White House is near panic," Bolton also writes. "Where are they going to go to find a better policy inside his administration?"

In a series of interviews and speeches over the last year, Cheney declared President Obama had put the country's security at an elevated level of risk as a result of a string of national security decisions that largely went at odds with Bush administration practices.

Cheney's comments have met criticism from many Democrats and some members of the media who say he would be better off following the example set by former President George Bush, who has remained largely silent on the actions of his successor.

But in the Human Events article, Bolton said its necessary former leaders continue to defend their policies.

"Most people have scratched their heads at this criticism, which is what passes for devastating analysis by the media, because it is entirely natural for a senior public official to explain and defend his policies once he leaves office," Bolton writes. "In fact, it is critical that men and women who have served in high positions, as Cheney has, to do just that, to give our citizens a better understanding of what actually goes on in high-level decision making."

"Cheney's quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens," Bolton adds. "And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney's solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!"

Only John Bolton, a co-founder of the Neo-Nazi "Project for the New American Century" organization could that Dick Cheney makes sense to "more and more Americans".

Dick and John should have been born 80 years earlier, perhaps near Austria, Germany. They might have met up with some equally demented people in the early 1930's that believed war, torture and any means to justify the ends was an acceptable policy.

Of course, we tried the survivors of that era as war criminals at Nuremberg. Perhaps Cheney and Bolton are next???

Absurb! If Cheney is the Conservative of the Year, why won't other GOPer's say so? Everyone I know, except your Limbaugh's and Beck's, appear to be distancing themselves from him. I guess this is in response to Obama's Nobel Peace award...this must be for something Cheney has yet to do!

I did not like Bush or Cheney when they were in power, but now look at what Obama has done to this country, I start to miss Bush.

Dick Cheney should be recognized for his contribution to the destruction of the planet, the demise of our economy, the total devestation of our liberties, for being a war monger, and
a universally-recognized evil entity. It figures that these "attributes" would make the Republicans want to idolize him.. BTW, the reddest state in the Union, Utah, has the most polluted air in the Union (today we can't even go outside), but by george, we are going to bring that depleted unranium here AND now we are firing up a huge coal burning plant. THe only good thing is that between the three pollutants the population here should plummet soon. This is what the Republicans want to do to the entire country. God, you Republicans are stupid!

It really says allot about how far the GOP has fallen when there "man of the year" is choosen not for accomplishments, not for abilities, not for leadership, not for his actions, but simply because he critisized the most. No matter how you feel poltically, you have to recognize this obstruction first, party first mentallity is what is really hurting this country.

God Bless Dick Cheney. Is it any wonder he brings out the craziest of liberals spewing endless hate. I am thankful he has groomed Liz well and to carry on after he is gone.

Let's look at this as Fair and Balanced Fox News would...

"Here is the famous photo of Dick Cheney with Sadam Hussein. We all know Sadam Hussein was a ruthless dictator who brutalized his own people. And I'm not sayin' Cheney is a ruthless dictator..."

Somebody from the right...please tell me if I am doing the guilt by association thing you guys are known for correctly?

Conservatism has an image problem if Dick Cheney is their standarad bearer.

He's a good choice. Of course with competition like Sarah, Glenn and Rush – collectively funnier than the Three stooges, at least Cheney stcks by his beliefs with the credibility of knowing the facts , dispite his take on them.

Well, that should not surprise anyone! If he had his way, we would be at war with Iran today. That, so he could recommend Halliburton for another sole source contract. It is not a question of what Mr. Cheney has done FOR this country, it is a question of what he has DONE TO this country! His credibility is at ground zero!

If Dick Cheney is considdered to be the conservative of the year, then May God help what is left of the Republican party. This is the guy that still defends the weapons of mass destruction.

"Bolton said its necessary former leaders (like Cheney) continue to defend their policies"

Lets see - what policies and ideals are those? Arrogance, lying to the American public, hypocrisy, protecting the wealthiest 1% of the taxpayers at the expense of the rest of us. Yeah - good ole Cheney is some sort of at guy?

A new low for the GOP. This is a sick joke. Cheney helped to almost destroy this country. It takes both hands to count the number of times he broke the law and ripped apart the Constitution.

Despite what the socialist, anti-American media tries to say, Dick Cheney is a great American patriot and, unlike the amateur, third-world raised, community organizer that we are stuck with as president, Cheney knows exactly how to run foreign affairs and would not get steamrolled the way Obama does every time he goes overseas.

yes and this is exactly why the country is in decline. idiots who don't understand foriegn policy, who couldn't name a single coutry in asia or east africa think a war criminal is a role model.

Under the heading of "I Just Don't Get IT", Dick et all haven't considered the fact that America as a target is less appealing when the rest of the world no longer considers you as The Great Satan anymore. World opinion isn't well served when terrost organizations target an administration that is well liked and respected. Of course, after eight years of "I Don't Get It', I suppose the world, and especially Americans, shouldn't expect anything more from Dick.

If being conservative of the year means outing CIA agents whose husbands don't support your bogus evidence of weapons of mass destruction, if being conservative of the year means violating the very principles that you stand for as well as national and international law (torture), if being conservative of the year means giving under the table business contracts to your friends and benefactors, then conservatives are in real trouble.

How did we fall so far from conservatives with common decency (Reagan, Bush I) to embracing treason, dishonesty and torture as core values?

Maybe Mr. Cheney should consider running for president in 2012, provided his health is not a factor. I am sure he would get the GOP nomination.
