Cheney named Conservative of the Year

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

(CNN) - He may have exited the national stage nearly one year ago, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.

"What Cheney is saying, primarily on foreign policy, defense and anti-terrorism, makes sense to more and more American citizens growing increasingly worried by the Obama Administration's insouciance when U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad," former U.N. ambassador John Bolton writes for the magazine.

"Since the only real, long-term way to deal with persuasive positions on substantive policy matters is to refute them with sounder policy arguments, it is not hard to understand why the Obama White House is near panic," Bolton also writes. "Where are they going to go to find a better policy inside his administration?"

In a series of interviews and speeches over the last year, Cheney declared President Obama had put the country's security at an elevated level of risk as a result of a string of national security decisions that largely went at odds with Bush administration practices.

Cheney's comments have met criticism from many Democrats and some members of the media who say he would be better off following the example set by former President George Bush, who has remained largely silent on the actions of his successor.

But in the Human Events article, Bolton said its necessary former leaders continue to defend their policies.

"Most people have scratched their heads at this criticism, which is what passes for devastating analysis by the media, because it is entirely natural for a senior public official to explain and defend his policies once he leaves office," Bolton writes. "In fact, it is critical that men and women who have served in high positions, as Cheney has, to do just that, to give our citizens a better understanding of what actually goes on in high-level decision making."

"Cheney's quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens," Bolton adds. "And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney's solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!"

Cheney should be tried as a traitor or named Traitor of the Year. He was responsible for a failed foreign policy that invaded a sovereign country that was not involved with 9/11 and caused the death of over 4000 American servicemen and women. This invasion was based on a lie and it has caused his own country to fall. We have spent over a trillion dollars and counting, and what do we have to show for it??? Bush administration policies are responsible for many more deaths than the 9/11 terrorists. When are conservatives going to get this?? When you promote a lie that causes your own country to fall that is the definition of being a traitor. The world that Cheney fantasizes about doesn't exist. Nor will it ever. His policy

Cheney is not a conservative – I repeat, "Cheney IS NOT a conservative! He is a reactionary railing against his perceived notions of what is wrong and lining his pockets all the while with public monies unabashedly.

This Dick has had his day. Go lay down and rest your neck. His analysis was wrong while he were in office and he is still off. The more This Dick talks the more I search for ways to ensure democrats stay in office. Everytime he opens his mouth, it reminds me that no matter what the democrats do, they still didn't send 4,000+ troops to their death, and lie to (and hide from) the American public the truth about it. This Dick cannot be trusted to tell the truth.

Yes, Cheny makes a cartoonish figure for the liberal media to hound, wronly convincing many Americans that he is an idiot. Actually, he is well-informed, well-spoken, patriotic, and unafraid. I notiuce not one liuberal ever offers to debate him on what waterboarding only three people provided in life-saving intelligence, how Guantanomo served as an excellent location for dangerous war criminals, why the Constitution was written so as to provide military tribunals for enemy combatants instead of American jury trials, and why Americans (in spite of faults that all people have) need not apologize for our past militarily or mroally to a world that longs to live here on our shores!

Cheney may be the conservative of the year but this country isn't conservative anymore.......what few people of this country, what few republicans, what few media think Cheney has better policies than the Obama administration is just as nuts as he is........

CNN stop putting this miserable excuse for a human being in the spot light. All this is doing is making people, who don't support the ideals of this individual, fume and go to different news outlets for there news. You are only hurting yourselves.

And on the opposite end of the scale, obama wins hands down as the first socialist/communist/half Muslim in the White House.

Cheney had eight years to do something positive, and he chose not to, so just let him go away.

This about matches the TIME win for Bernanke! Crooks ALL from Politics and Wall Street still in charge. It is terribly sad when Mass Murderers (Bush/Cheney et al) can "win" awards in a country gone NUTS with it's own Ego and Power – A country where it's citizens can't get Universal Healthcare, but they can be forced to pay for Universal genocide! Last I heard "conservatives" CONSERVE! What is this guy Conserving? he better conserve his tongue. It could get his evilness in some trouble, we HOPE! Then death is next for this spokesperson for Halliburton and the Reich! Not too soon!

It's accuate and good. He knows more about national security than anyone now in there. But is it really important? this will just get let all the left wing radicals attack and distract America from the things this administratopn is doing right now. Noteworthy article, but low importance right now...

Bush/Cheney was one of the biggest threats to national security to ever exist. Come to think of it, Dicko was a pretty big threat to his golfing buddy as well. Even Barry Goldwater is rolling in his grave over this recently bestowed "award."

So, in order to make this list one has to lie to the American people, condone the practice of torture and steal from the taxpayer in the form of Halliburton no bid government contracts. And let's not forget the fact that 9/11 happened on the Bush/Cheney watch as a result of the administration's ignoring gathered intelligence that an attack was imminent.

Cheney is Conservative of the Year? HA! This guy trampled on our constitution, ballooned or deficit, and left Afghanistan to fester for YEARS, and the economy collapsed all under his administration's watch.

And now he's called Conservative of the year for what? Nay saying President Obama for trying to get Afghanistan back on the right track, is ridiculous an is an utter insult to real conservatives like Ron Paul, and Bob Barr.

One question to Mr. Cheney - if he also feels deserving of this award might he not stop exercising executive privilege over the release of nearly all of his conversations and notes about what he had done for national security? Further, might he comment on how the overspending of a war in Iraq, one that was done with flimsy and fabricated evidence, put the country at huge risk financially by costing it over 1 trillion dollars in debt?

I would like to see this man stand for office. He has gained and held sway with his party and the conservative movement for many years. He shaped the Neo Con augments about Iraq as well as the intelligence that lead to this war. I would like to see his point of view tested with the electorate.

His pontification from the side line seems to want to counter a different direction for the country. I am not sure it has much merit.

Instead of sniping from the side lines he should stand up and be counted.

I would like to see him run on his track record of the past decade.

Really Mr. Bolton? and it wasn't critical for Cheney to make clear to the citizens what he and his henchmen were doing the eight yrs he was in office? Sounds a lot like double standard to me.
