Cheney named Conservative of the Year

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.
Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

(CNN) - He may have exited the national stage nearly one year ago, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.

"What Cheney is saying, primarily on foreign policy, defense and anti-terrorism, makes sense to more and more American citizens growing increasingly worried by the Obama Administration's insouciance when U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad," former U.N. ambassador John Bolton writes for the magazine.

"Since the only real, long-term way to deal with persuasive positions on substantive policy matters is to refute them with sounder policy arguments, it is not hard to understand why the Obama White House is near panic," Bolton also writes. "Where are they going to go to find a better policy inside his administration?"

In a series of interviews and speeches over the last year, Cheney declared President Obama had put the country's security at an elevated level of risk as a result of a string of national security decisions that largely went at odds with Bush administration practices.

Cheney's comments have met criticism from many Democrats and some members of the media who say he would be better off following the example set by former President George Bush, who has remained largely silent on the actions of his successor.

But in the Human Events article, Bolton said its necessary former leaders continue to defend their policies.

"Most people have scratched their heads at this criticism, which is what passes for devastating analysis by the media, because it is entirely natural for a senior public official to explain and defend his policies once he leaves office," Bolton writes. "In fact, it is critical that men and women who have served in high positions, as Cheney has, to do just that, to give our citizens a better understanding of what actually goes on in high-level decision making."

"Cheney's quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens," Bolton adds. "And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney's solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!"

If he's the top conservative then I'm the King of Prussia. This man is nothing but a war criminal chickenhawk. He doesn't want to conserve anything but raw American empire. He is nothing to admire. He should be put in prison until his ticker quits.

"Of course he is the conservative of the year" -> sounds like a very rigorous process to find the winner.

I'll take this with the same excitement I take watching grass grow...yawn. If this little man could not criticize, he would have nothing else to do. The shoe's being on the other foot, this hypocrite would be the first to call someone "un American".

It disgusts me to read an opinion from John Bolton (of all the peole)about Cheney. These are 2 individuals who pushed our men and women to a war that was completely fabricated on lies and their guru, Rush Limbaugh, even suggests that we need to go after Iran.
Why don't we pack these 3 monsters to Afghanistan, Somalia, or any other country where they can serve our country and show some patriotism. Stop them from living on other people's blood.

    "more and more American citizens"?

More and more of the 20% lunatic fringe, that is. They're beyond hope though, unfortunately.

So John Bolton, the co-architect of Bush/Cheney's failed approach to the world now speaks. We are tired of these despicable jerks. I am afraid we have to live with these freaks forever.

So the infamous John Bolton gives the award to Cheney? This makes this even more of a laughfest! Bolton was a disaster in the U.N. from the moment Bush appointed him.

So this is basically Bush giving Cheney an award....'Conservative of the Year'?? Maybe he is! is this important and does this give Cheney any credibility?? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I guess it shows the brain damage of the Conservative mind or perhaps it is closer to stockholm syndrome.

They nominated a man who was a part of the group that did the most permanent damage to their cause than any one else.

It is truly sad to see that some people in this country can be soo easily fooled.

I'm thinking Bolton could not get his U.N. nomination, he was opposed by Some conservitatives with votes. I am wondering why he is using the terms "most people", and "more and more" are thinking positve of he or Cheney? I guess if your in a tiny room with only your kind, that is most.

What a Joke! If i was a conservative, I would be utterly embarrassed to have this man be the "conservative of the year". If Cheney represents the values of the conservative party, then it makes perfect sense that his policies over the last 8 years destroyed America's credit abroad, brought upon the worst financial crisis since the depression, the worst environmental policies, no wall street regulations and 2 endless wars.

How is Cheney's Iraq war, which has cost us 10 billion dollars a month, representative of conservative values? Arent conservatives supposed to be fiscally responsible? Funny because im pretty sure the huge surplus the Clinton administration left us was turned into record deficit... Keep criticizing obama you hypocrites...it was you and your "conservative" policies that put us in this mess.

    CNN is reporting on this?

What one former Bushie is saying in support of another former Bushie, both of them ardent neocons who have not yet met a brown person they would not like to beat the truth out of or drop a bomb on.

Seriously CNN should find some real news to discuss, Bolton writing in support of Cheney and critisizing Obama is not news.

Some people never learn. Cheney has been wrong about foreign policy for more than nine years. No WMDs, no al Qaeda, no flowers welcoming our troops in Iraq, lies about outing CIA agents working on nuclear proliferation, etc. What a record of failed foresight Cheney has. Now this award. When fools talk, fools listen, it seems.

John Bolton was proven wrong time and time again during the Bush Administration, just like his clay-footed idols, Dick Cheney and Paul Wolfowitz, and Donald Rumsfeld. Why would anyone think he is correct in praising Cheney? Compared to the work ethic and accomplishments of the prior administration, the Obama people are like a high-output well-oiled machine. Hardly near panic, John, and Cheney's hollow reprises are as wrong as ever, not devastating to anything but the Republican Party.

insouciance (had to look that one up), stands to reason they would use that term, the conservatives are fear mongers, that is what they do best.....try to scare people into voting for them....

CONSERVATIVE is one name for Cheney but there are many many more that could be applied. I don't know who let the dog out of his secure location at the end of the Bush Term but I wish they had just forgotten about him or lost the key. This warmonger, Cheney, is a one man lightening rod for the destruction of the USA and for the starting of wars. He and his "Mouth Peice" daughter need to be put in a secure location until the day after the end of time.

'Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.'

Which is a nice way of saying he didn't do anything. Everyone posts criticisms all over this website. Give the award to someone who has made a positive impact on the country not someone who just points out (or creates) problems.
