Cheney named Conservative of the Year

Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.
Human Events has named Cheney Conservative of the Year.

(CNN) - He may have exited the national stage nearly one year ago, but former Vice President Dick Cheney has been named "Conservative of the Year" by the conservative Human Events magazine for his ardent and continuous criticisms of the Obama administration's national security policies.

"What Cheney is saying, primarily on foreign policy, defense and anti-terrorism, makes sense to more and more American citizens growing increasingly worried by the Obama Administration's insouciance when U.S. national interests are threatened, both at home and abroad," former U.N. ambassador John Bolton writes for the magazine.

"Since the only real, long-term way to deal with persuasive positions on substantive policy matters is to refute them with sounder policy arguments, it is not hard to understand why the Obama White House is near panic," Bolton also writes. "Where are they going to go to find a better policy inside his administration?"

In a series of interviews and speeches over the last year, Cheney declared President Obama had put the country's security at an elevated level of risk as a result of a string of national security decisions that largely went at odds with Bush administration practices.

Cheney's comments have met criticism from many Democrats and some members of the media who say he would be better off following the example set by former President George Bush, who has remained largely silent on the actions of his successor.

But in the Human Events article, Bolton said its necessary former leaders continue to defend their policies.

"Most people have scratched their heads at this criticism, which is what passes for devastating analysis by the media, because it is entirely natural for a senior public official to explain and defend his policies once he leaves office," Bolton writes. "In fact, it is critical that men and women who have served in high positions, as Cheney has, to do just that, to give our citizens a better understanding of what actually goes on in high-level decision making."

"Cheney's quiet, inner-directed motivation is simply impervious to the attacks orchestrated against him by the Chicago machine-style politicians at the White House, a fact also plainly visible to his fellow citizens," Bolton adds. "And it is yet another important reason to have confidence that Cheney's solid policy analysis will yet prevail in the national political arena. Of course he is the conservative of the year!"

By his own definition this man is a traitor. Everything he is now saying and doing is what he deemed anti American when his administration had the ball. Just shows what kind of man he truly is. I say "start the trial".

Well isn't this just fitting. While in office Cheney committed treason when he outed Valerie Plame. And now he's conservative of the year. This shines a very bright light on the true values of the Republican party, doesn't it?

There is nothing conservative about Cheney. I am insulted by this. He is not a conservative, he has dictator mentality written all over him.

Lets see, so the out going administration looses the WH to their opposition party. and they give the looser a reward for it? . talk about mediocrity, it seems the GOP can't even face themselves in the mirror without lying to themselves. Yes Dick you help loose the WH for the GOP, but here's your reward.

Bolton supporting Cheney. How novel. A thug supporting a 5-deferment coward and bully.

He sent thousands of young soldiers to die in a war on a pack of lies, spawned generations of new terrorists steeled in a blast furnace of hatred towards the USA fueled by the conservatives' blunt-force arrogance. This subject should be court-martialed not honored.

I might have called him "Fearmonger of the Year" or "Idiot of the Year" or "Warmonger of the Year" or "Liar of the Year", although Palin could have challenged him on all of thoses titles and a few more that are not fit to print in polite company,

Mr. Cheney has been the biggest impediment to the spread of democracy since the rise of fascism over 50 years ago.

Us liberal democrats just love this. This is great news. I just look up to the stars and hope for a Palin/Chaney ticket. Or Cahney/Huckabee. Chaney can lock up terrorist and Huckabee can pardon them. When Chaney can say he faught in the fox hols of war then he can talk about putting our kids in harms way.

Cheney and Bolton and the other reckless neocons are finally out of power. We should return our foreign policy to sanity as soon as possible. Undo whatever they did before we create more enemies and get in more unnecessary wars. Lets finally put OUR house in order before we try to fix the rest of the world! Obama has the right attitude and perspective about the world today, give him a chance!

Elevated risk huh? Yet no such attack has happened (thank goodness) and one would think some attempt would have succeeded. A couple thwarted (hmmmmmmm you mean the Homeland Security team is still working??) but none have succeeded. But wait – there was that incident on 9/11 under Bush/Cheney!!!! You know the one where they ignored warnings from the CIA because .....well no one knows why (maybe because the warnings were from "Clinton" people?)....and no one knows why they are seen as saviors instead of incompetent bumblers who missed the warnings completely.

  22. Is 4 years up yet?

Dick Cheney deserves this honor and should be appreciated for all his hard work to help keep this nation safe with George W. Bush. To be honest I am quite surprised CNN posted this story since they are all about pushing forward the Liberal Agenda. It's too bad this great public servant has to put up with second rate dirt bag Congressmen like Alan Grayson. Now please comment away Liberals, tear this post apart......but in reality all of you are clueless just like that blockhead Nancy Pelosi. Stay hot Liberals, you guys are doing great.
