WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama on Monday called the Senate vote to end its debate and move toward passing a health care bill "a big victory for the American people."
In remarks at the White House, Obama rejected arguments by Republican opponents of the bill that it will increase the federal deficit.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says the Senate bill will reduce the deficit by $132 billion in the first 10 years, Obama said.
"That argument that opponents are making against this bill does not hold water," Obama said.
The Senate will hold more procedural votes on the health care bill this week, with a final vote scheduled for Christmas Eve.

Polls show a vast majority oppose this bill. So when Obama says it's a "big victory for the American people," he's implicitly adding, "they're just too dumb to realize it."
Also, while the CBO is non-partisan, it should be noted that they are also non-competent.
Actually, Mr. President, a single-payer system like the rest of the world has would be a victory for the American people. The current bill is more like a victory for the American insurance and pharmaceutical people. I can't wait to see how our congress critters butcher meaningful financial regulatory reform. The health care vote is a Victory for the Government and the Insurance industry, certainly has NOTHING to do with the people. Nobody in the Senate even knows what people are. The American people are nothing more to this Government then a taxpayer to be exploited for Corporate profit.

What he really meant to say, is that it is a "big tax increase coming for the American people", it is Unconstitutional and it does nothing to curb in healthcare costs for middle America. This Administration has destroyed us with their spending and debt, don't worry America, the wake up call is coming. This bill is only for Obama to say that he passed health care. We will spend the next ten years cleaning the 2000 page bill up.

Not a victory for American people, it's one for Obama. This change will become a disaster for Americans. Obama needs votes for himself, but he will find out he has set up a trap for himself.
The President and Congress are not listening to the American people, we are against this bill. It only serves to help the Rich and make them richer. It forces and obligates us to buy Insurance yet, it does nothing to place caps on what we can be charged. It does nothing to help us obtain affordable prescriptions. It does nothing to help us obtain affordable insurance. It does NOTHING for us the average Democrat, Republican and Independent.
We voted for the President and Congress so that they could do what was best for all of us......so that they could listen to us and help us. Sadly, they have shown us that they do not care about us and our needs. All they care about is their own personal gains and political games.
If Congress pushes this bill through as is, we will be forced to show our anger at the polls. We will stop supporting and funding this type of arrogance and misuse of power.

A Victory? If paying higher insurance premiums and getting less health care services is a victory for Americans, I can hardly wait to see cap and trade pass. Not to mention how many more jobs will be lost with this job killing legislation.

A Bill which offers no option for uninsured Americans to buy affordable insurance from sources other than big insurers? But they will be fined or perhaps jailed for not buying health insurance which they cannot afford?
Which does not allow import of inexpensive medicines for Americans who go broke paying for them?
Which pinches trillion dollars from Medicare for aging Americans?
Which has no provisions for regulating skyrocketing health insurance costs & instead protects Insurance Cos?
In short which does not offer affordable health insurance for all Americans.
