Obama delays Hawaii vacation over Senate vote

Obama was already on his Hawaii vacation at this time last year.
Obama was already on his Hawaii vacation at this time last year.

(CNN) - He was already relaxing on the beaches of Hawaii last year at this time, but President Obama said Tuesday his annual vacation to the Aloha State won't begin this year until the Senate passes the health care bill.

"I will not leave until my friends in the Senate have completed their work," Obama said Tuesday. "My attitude is that if they're making these sacrifices to provide health care to all Americans then the least I can do is be around to provide them any encouragement and last-minute help where necessary. That's the deal."

A final vote on the Senate health care bill is currently scheduled for 7 pm ET on Christmas Eve, though it could come earlier in the day if Republicans yield some of their debate time.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday the president's actual vacation plans won't be determined until the vote has taken place.

    Oh really!
He just came back from Denmark, China and other social events, while busy forcing democrats to vote against the people's will and making sure they get their earmarks! Tax by other names in order to maintain the deficit is tax... no need to call it health care!

  2. Amazing

Notice he said, until THEY have completed their work..........not him, because he doesn't do anything, he is our Delegater in Chief. Big concession from our do nothing president, delaying yet another vacation.

  6. If you want something ruined, put a republican in charge

It is time for the republicans to pack up and go home for the holidays. Their obstruction should be commended, because I do not think, historically, we have ever seen democracy brought to a standstill by so few republicans. The health insurance industry should also be proud of the republicans, as these GOP senators have earned their bribes.

The only sacrifices the Senate Democrats are making to provide health care reform for Americans are their job if they are up for re-election in 2010 and their legacy when this bill turns out to be worse than Medicare.

I hope barry isn't as big of a hack as a golfer than he has been at being the President.

Oops.. This newsworthy story about the huge sacrifice of our beloved President should shame all those war mongering military types who are spending Christmas on a fun camping expidition in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Man, he has worked so hard at driving this country into the ground..... nothing better than a trip to Hawaii and all the golf he can handle...... wish i could take a vacation but instead i have to work everyday to support my family and prepare for all the new taxes that i will have to pay for his BIG GOVT. BILLS that the democrats and himself are cramming down all of our throats........ In California next year i will be voting against all democrats period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All you have to do is look at the state of California that has been democratically ran for ever it seems like and this verifies my voting strategy...... Good riddance

More posturing, from President Obama. It doesn't matter if he delays his vacation, he can just extend if he wants. I am tired of the games.

If that means he will wait until all the lawsuits against this health care takeover are done with, he won't be in Hawaii for a long time.

The GOP has stalled everything so far this year.

If the GOP ever quits playing their little boy stalling game, we can ALL move forward with things like the JOBS BILLS. VOTE THE OBSTRUCTIONISTS OUT.

Wow. What a guy. I bet the "Friends in the Senate" feel so much better about what they're doing, knowing that Barack is "sacrificing" his holiday for them . . .
