Obama delays Hawaii vacation over Senate vote

Obama was already on his Hawaii vacation at this time last year.
Obama was already on his Hawaii vacation at this time last year.

(CNN) - He was already relaxing on the beaches of Hawaii last year at this time, but President Obama said Tuesday his annual vacation to the Aloha State won't begin this year until the Senate passes the health care bill.

"I will not leave until my friends in the Senate have completed their work," Obama said Tuesday. "My attitude is that if they're making these sacrifices to provide health care to all Americans then the least I can do is be around to provide them any encouragement and last-minute help where necessary. That's the deal."

A final vote on the Senate health care bill is currently scheduled for 7 pm ET on Christmas Eve, though it could come earlier in the day if Republicans yield some of their debate time.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday the president's actual vacation plans won't be determined until the vote has taken place.

@ victim of the false prophet OBAMA

The only thing you're a "victim" of is your own ignorance. Unfortunately, the only one who can help you with that is YOU.

President Obama has the correct priorities as a statesman and public servant. It is a welcomed change from his predecessor who took too much time off on vacation his first year.

In contrast, President Obama continues to persevere and work diligently for all American people. Keep up the good work!

Sure are a lot of bitter Republcan types sitting around all day generating really bad tripe on these blogs. To all you angry bitter Republican bloggers that are upset becasue our hard working President is going to take a well deserved vacation, get a life; if this is your paid job to blog on CNN, then get a "real job" loosers.

Why do you people want to criticize the President for taking a vacation, most people who work earn vacation time. Why should the President be any different? Why is it that you all think the President should put his life and his family life on hold because of the problems this country has, was the same expected of any other President? No one had a problem when previous President traveled across the world but somehow when President Obama travels people want to call it a vacation. Presidents travel, ALL of them do. They take their families, ALL of them did. That is part of the job. Why wouldn't they enjoy another country or city when they travel for business? It would be rude not to enjoy the countries or cities they visit. No matter how hard you people try, President Bush still holds and will always hold the record for being on vacation, true vacations. Complaining every time President Obama leaves the White House and calling all his trips vacations won't work. A person who has the weight of the entire country on his shoulders deserves every break he can get. How many of you could stand up to the constant criticism, pressure and stress that he has?

You Dem's are rediculous. All I ever read is 'Good for you, Obama!" C'mon! Everything this excuse for a prez has done is to look good in the spotlight, or done after he ran a poll to make sure he's not making himself look bad.
$50 says that the Mrs. Obama and the kids didn't want to go to Hawaii this year and agreed not to months ago, but Obama thought, "Hey! Now I can make this look like i'm doing this for America!" when in reality, he got grilled by his mum-in-law to stay with the fam this year, and cook a Christmas Goose at home, or shall I say "Holiday Goose" for all you politically correct handout wannabees out there! Heathcare is a right? Ok, well, I'll support you raping my paychecks to pay for your bill if you stop smoking, eat healthy, and stop drinking so I'm not paying for your sorrys butts when ya get cancer! So, I admit, I didn't like CrapStain McCaine, and I think the GOP needs to start thinking a little more 'hipp' and younger, but when I voted for Obama, I didn't vote for a non-partisan idiot who shuns the Rep Party during one of the most important moments in America... I'm for HealthCare Reform, but as a team, not as a form of tyranny, shoving it down our throats. What a bunch of BUNK! This prez is the biggest flippy flopper I've ever seen! Any chance to get in front of the camera, and he's there! A white guy gets beat up by 10 black kids, and you hear nothing... A black harvard professor gets arrested for breaking the law and resisting arrest, and Obama is there to settle the issue with beer. Ain't no way a black man can be disrespected... he has to investigate and call the whole PD "Stupid"... Lift a brotha up! WAKE UP AMERICA!

It's astonishing what short memories so many Americans have. Politics is a dirty game in this country – no doubt about it & I do not blindly & wholeheartedly support the Dems BUT what kind of fools take the GOP seriously anymore? Who can believe a single thing out of their mouths? Where were these sanctimonious wretches during the eight year period the GOP & their dimwitted puppet Bush steered us into an unnecessary and costly war, dismantled regulations which allowed the rich & powerful to push our economy to the brink, showed repeated disdain for the majority of Americans & never bothered to make the kind of comments they hurl ad nauseum at their opposition while the most pathetic excuse for national leadership worked at destroying not only this nation but the security of the world. The GOP is despicable. They use the simpleton's who find life and the unknowns so frightening they join pseudo religious organizations and terrorize the rest of the nation. The dimmest among us should not be leading the way. In fact, they should stop getting any serious attention at all. They do this nation no favor, just like the disingenuous GOP does this nation NO service at all. May they do us all a favor and destroy their party completely!

The mess we are in is NOT because of the democrats OR the republicans. We are in a mess because YOU PEOPLE, yes you posting here, are IDIOTS.

IT is your fault, not the politicians. Politicians do what you tell them to do. The American people are ignorant fools and we have got what we deserve when we supported going to wars without paying for them.

BFD! Obama can't wait to trash one sixth of our economy and then start lamenting the deficit and the debt and the out of control spending which he will somehow blame on Bush even though he was gone before the pork laden Stimulus, Healthcare and Defense Appropriations bills were passed by the Democratic Congress. What a hypocrite!

It also amazes me to see how soon we all forget who got us in this mess and they had 8 years to do it and for 6 of those years they had control and never got anything accomplised except getting us into 2 wars, squandering a balanced budget and making the rich richer. If they had such good ideas why didn't they implement some of them when they had control. Wake up people President Obama cannot fix this in 1 year or 4. He deserves the same amount of time to fix it as the past administration took to get us to where we are at now. Every wealthy country in the world is using the same strategy to get out of this recession. Some are more aggressive then we are and some are less. They can't all be wrong. Give it time to work.

Its So Sad....Racial Slurs will get you no where...The infamous "n" word has been around for decades...Everyone has used it...but you would think..as a man you would "Grow Up" and at least at such a young age...have some form of tact about yourself...but it says a lot about your upbringing...All of this is racial...but something is coming...and All will see!

The President and the Majority in the Senate have their head so far up their you know what, they have totally lost sight of the fact that the legislation they are about to pass is NOT health care REFORM - it is just EXPANDING the broken system. Although the republicans are even worse because all they care about seeing America fail for the next 3 years - the Dems need to realize that the next election is going to be VERY rough for them if they continue to neglect the reasons Obama was voted into office to begin with.

I have a lot of respect for President Obama and I truly believe he's working hard, there are however a lot of things that are going overlooked. In his Aloha state school furlough days have been instituted to cut back on teacher pay. This however means less education for Hawaii's youth, meaning less doctors in the future, and more need for public health care unfortunately. We as a people have to stand up, voice our opinions, and commit to actions that will help rebuild our economy for our children.

I read through several posts and I see why you sheeple bow down to Obama. Your writing skills suck, and it is clearly evident you barely passed high school and need the government to think for you. If you want to see what a half a decade of liberal democrats cause, search YouTube for Detroit videos to see your destiny. It is exactly what you deserve.

Liberal Democrat definition: take from the haves and give to the have-nots.
    Democrats reward irresponsibility.

Isn't that socialism Watson? Why, yes, Holmes it is indeed.

    My God,

Some of the comments on here prove beyond a doubt that most of you are beyond hope. To those of you whining about all of the "social trips" he's just been on lately, those were not social events, they were business meetings, and his family was not with him. This trip to Hawaii and the one to the Grand Canyon are true vacations with his wife and children. And while the services of the Air Force One and the Secret Service may be paid for with my money, the expenses they occur for room and board are paid out of their own pockets. I do not begrudge one dime of my tax money being spent for this purpose. The man has earned it, and so has his family.

Shame on you for being so petty and mean-spirited.

LOL!... the left here seems to have fits over the least bit of criticism towards obama as noted below, are the same ones who have heaped nothing but scorn and ridicule towards President Bush when he was in office. The old saying what goes around comes around seems to apply in this case.

Also, for the millions here who are out of work and money this Christmas season, be sure to wish your obama a Mele Kalilikimaka as he's vacationing in sunny Hawaii.

To all you whining liberals. If you like the European model of government so much, go to Europe. Planes leave JFK daily.

Take an illegal immigrant under each arm when you go.

America wasn't founded on food stamps and welfare programs–what makes you think it will save America?

I really feel sad for my country when I see grown people, probably older than I am, posting hateful, mean spirited comments that have nothing to do with the issue at hand. You're home life must be really bad when the only outlet you have to vent your rage is a political blog.

That goes for Repubs and Dems.

"Everything this President does is about redistribution and penalizing those who are willing to work and succeed." –

I work 55 hours a week on average. From June through October, I worked every single day (weekends included) averaging between 76 and 84 hours each week. I did this without overtime and without health benefits. I've been without health benefits for over a year now. My wife worked three jobs till one shut down. She went from working a steady 35 to 45 hours each week to 10-15 hours a week. She also has no health insurance even though she is a health professional herself.

Please explain how the status quo is helping us? We're both very much in support of the health care bill. Neither of us has a problem with him taking some time off, either. Every previous president has.
