Washington (CNN) - Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine got a holiday surprise Tuesday morning when a mysterious "Barry from D.C" called WTOP's call-in radio show to complain about traffic.
Turns out the call was coming from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, and was none other than President Barack Obama.
"Well, uh Governor Kaine, this is actually the President of The United States calling," Obama said after being announced on the show as "Barry from D.C."
Kaine, seemingly taken by complete surprise responded with laughter saying, "No. Oh my gosh."
"I just wanted to say how proud we are of your service as governor of the Common Wealth of Virginia," Obama continued. "And just wish you and the family all the best this Christmas season after just a terrific round of service for the people of Virginia."
Kaine thanked the president for his warm wishes, and said in his four years as governor his happiest day was when Obama was elected president.
The two went on to joke about their wives being "superior" to them.
"You and me have to stick together since we're married to better people," Obama joked.
Kaine, who was named Chairman of the Democratic National Committee last January, will be succeeded as governor by Republican Bob McDonnell in January 2010.
Kaine said he looked forward to continuing to be "helpful."

That sounds like a great prank call. I guess there was some trace to indicate that it was coming from the White House.
Way cool!!!
Obama should be rounding up the war criminals that sent our kids off to die in Iraq and the wall street mafia hoodlums that took away our wealth, unless he's in on it.
Is there no cheap publicity stunt this worthless president won't stoop to?? It's nice to see he's got his nose to the grind stone working on the 10% unemployement problem! He has cheapened to the Office of President. He's a joke.
President Obama may not be scoring alot of political fame but you cant deny his heart and conviction is that of a king merry Christmas Mr. President and may we all have a much much better New Year.
cool stuff! Bottom line we are all human regardless of our position in life. Way to go Mr. President.
Unbelievable – this guy is an attention junkie! Remember when the office of the presidency had dignity? What's next, Howard Stern?
Another day, another lie from the liar-in-chief.
Merry Christmas Gentlemen!
Does POTUS have better things to do?
Isn"t that special. Maybe he should spend some time on the problems facing the country one of these days, and look for some solution other than, "Gee I know, let's throw more taxpayer money at it and blame the prior administration".
Personally, I'm looking forward to the day when "Barry from D.C." goes back to being "Barry from Chicago."
Only three more years...
How about that, two phonies in their first and last terms in office calling to tell each other how wonderful they are. Only in Obama land, the land of lies and deceit could such an event happen. Hopefully, Kaine will have the saddest day of his life when his theiving friend Barry is booted out in November 2012.
they need to make jokes about there wives because we are making jokes about them,,,, but the sad part is the american voters are the ones who had a bad joke pull on them back in nov. of 2008...
That was pretty funny on the President's behalf(Barry from D.C.). Please Gov. Kaine, find a way to stay in office so we won't have to deal with this McDonnell character.
Wow! Its sad to see that those who hate the Presdent of the United States cannot even stop their venomous droll even when the President is just wishing someone Merry Christmas.
So, to all you out there....Merry Christmas! May you find peace & love in your hearts and Goodwill Toward All!
I like Kaine....and that was kind of the President to joke around with him, and giving compliment.
Goodbye Gov. Tim Kaine ... Hello Conservative Resurgence!
After election day in November 2010, Obama will be making a lot more calls - calls of sympathy to all the defeated Democrats.
a. Lighten up, it's a joke. All former Presidents have shown their lighter side from time to time and it is in that shared humanity we remember that there is much mor euniting us than dividing us.
b. You may not respect the man but I would hope that we all can respect the Office. Some of these comments are a disgrace. As a Democrat I am proud to say I was always respectful of President Bush and the Office he held and will continue to be respectful of him.
c. When we act like impetulant children on board such as this we send a message to our elected representatives that they may continue to act in a similar manner.
I hope and pray 2010 reminds us all of our commonalities and not our differences.
Merry Christmas President Obama and Governor Kaine.
President Obama: A class act with a great sense of humor.
It's interesting how all of you critics just do not have any understanding of the economy works. if you Americans all elected Obama thinking that eight year problems would be fixed in one year, then go to school and take some economic classes. Everything on the behalf of the poors is socialist, unamerican...no one is american in the first place. Give this man a chance, and stop prejudging him untill 2012. And if you do not have a job, it is no the president who is going to give you one...go out there find a job by yourself....he is not the only one ruling this country. You have the banks, the congress, the business people etc... Stop the hatred.
Stop hating all you so call closet GOP members. Bush totally screwed up the economy and poured billions in an IRAQ war that was a total scam to the international community including the good all US of A. So, before you haters start opening up your traps, why don't you reflect on all the junk your fearless leaderless bush left for the Obama administration to clean up.
Eight year of prosperity for the weathly (top 2%), while bush cronnies left millions of America stranded; like Hurricane Katrina, no child left behind, etc. bush can't even speak correctly on the national stage without stumbling and bumbling over his sentences.
Obama as only been in office for less then a year and Obama as done more for this country then bush and that war monggering cheeny as done in 8 pathetic years.
SO STOP HATING......!!!
@Pat F
"Remember when the office of the presidency had dignity?"
I remember your boy W doing a dignified tap dance on the steps at the White House. Is that what you meant?
Look at all the grumpy dull people posting on here. You just can't get over the fact that you LOST in 2008. You guys are so 2000 and late. It was a funny prank. Not like the prank the last administration played on us... WMD's? Where are they? The economy? What happened? Torture? Why would you? 9/11? Why didn't you keeps us safe like you have claimed to have been doing all of this time? After the fact right?
