White House: Obama monitoring terror situation closely

(CNN) - White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton issued the following statement Sunday:

At around 6:00 a.m. Hawaii Time, the President received an update from his Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor John Brennan and National Security Staff chief of staff Denis McDonough on the latest information regarding the investigation into the incident on Flight 253, the security measures being taken to keep the traveling public safe, the most recent intelligence regarding that incident as well as on the reviews the President ordered into watch lists and detection capabilities. The President will continue to receive intelligence updates and monitor the situation closely throughout the day.

The rightwing republican jihadists could be behind it to get votes and sell more gold.

Obama is monitoring the situation carefully in order to determine who he should bow and apologize to next. :-)

If this had occurred under Bush's watch we would have seen cabinet level officials and Cheney all over the Sunday morning political shows, being shrill and fear mongering. They'd tie this to Iran/Iraq or whomever. Bush may have even gotten on camera.

How refreshing this administrations approach. Rather than get all in a tizzy and start issuing color coded terror alerts and slamming fists and gnashing teeth, we get silence. We do know that the incident is being investigated.

It's nice to see an administration doing their job rather than politicizing an isolated event.

I just have to laugh when I think of the millions of dollars people like Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and even Sarah Palin are making off of generally good people who buy into their vision of wanting "their" America back. The America they are referring to is one where different races "knew their place" and the world cowered under they threat of our military might. It certainly isn't the America that I want back for my kids,

Yes Obama, we are watching CNN this morning as well. You don't plan on doing anything about the situation anymore than we do. Except to increase the level of screening of little old ladies at the airport.

Why don't you take the fight to the enemy? Or would that offend your masters in Asia and the Middle East?

Well finally a wake up call for the Prez and his cabinet especially that Janet Napolitano. I am actually surprised they deign to use the word "terrorism" and "terrorist" as opposed to their ill-conceived "man-caused disaster" terminology. These guys better wake up and smell the terrororists before something horrible does happen. Two terrorist actions on/in US soil/airspacein the past two months – let's hope he is taking this seriously, as seriously as Bush took it. I get the immpression he is not and that these are tests of how he will handle terrorism because the terorists see the US as soft now because of Obama's positions on foreign policy issues and terrorism (man-caused disasters). Likely this guy will now be given miranda, put in a federal prison, given the rights US citizens are given and tried in a criminal court – that is a joke.

All you people who want the President to start a fight why don't you go and tell him you are ready and willing to do your part like get your gun and go fight. I did't think so. See, talk is cheap you can talk a big talk but when it come to during, that is something else. You only have one life to give, but people like you only want President Obama to give someone else life not your. We are fighting two wars already where in the hell do you think he is going to get the man power to add a third war, you are talking out of you but hole.

Terrorist atacks are the legacy left by the last government ( lord Vader and his puppet Dubbya) . Is going to take a while top make this side of the planet that we're not to invade or exploit anybody's country !!! What a shame !!!

The fact that the numbnut who boarded flight 253 was on a watch list and was still allowed to board, says it all. I can't imagine any justification for this.

To all you criticizing President Obama in his handling of this situation: Grow up!

The President is staying on top of the situation, including getting frequent briefings and ordering a review of security screening procedures.

And to those who think we should throw a dart at a map and invade a country over this incident, you are incredibly stupid and naive. You are also not privy to all the intelligence information the President, Homeland Security and our military leaders have.

    So again, GROW UP!

ck obviously watches Faux News ... Being allowed to board an airplane when on the watch list shows the ineptitude of the AIRLINES, not President Obama.

Jeez, you Faux watchers are incredibly dumb! If Faux told you the President made the sun rise in the west, you'd believe it!

GP- If this had occured under Bush's watch, we would be inundated with shrill left wingnuts and the media screaming that Bush doesn't care because he is in Hawaii on vacation and not even bothering to comment. After the first terrorist attack on Obama's watch, Fort Hood, we first got silence and then warned not to "jump to conclussions," it would be investigated. What did this complacency get us? An attempted terrorist bombing of an airliner. HOW REFRESHING! PS. Evidently this terrorist didn't get the Obama memo that we are closing Gitmo, so they have no reason to hate us and try to kill us anymore.

  18. If you want something ruined, put a republican in charge

If you are going to blame Obama for letting an idiot terrorist board a plane in Yemen, then Amsterdam. and try to blow a plane near Detroit, and the nut ball at Fort Hood: Then Bush is responsible for Columbine, Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois, 9/11, and a host of other violent acts.

Wow, these sorts of posts make me feel sick for America. What a bunch of bitter losers you are (most of you). Do you actually think things were better a few years ago? Oh yeah, that's right–we started an endless trillion dollar war FOR NO REASON.

Go back to bed until you come to your senses. Morons.

Of course the liberal morons on here come to defend OBOZO.

It's not OBOZO's fault that there was a terrorist attack, but he should be taking action against our security measures. The fool's dad told the US embassy that his son was flaky. Here in lies the area that needs to be researched so that the loop is tightly closed in the future.

    That's what we care about.

BUT no, the liberal morons want to talk about it as nothing, and sit around the camp fire hoping that the terrorists will love their brother OBOZO.

    Fools.

OK – The extreme comments are a little absurd. None of us are privy to the intelligence information they have and continue to gather about this disturbing incident. If it is a link in a larger plot, then an appropriate and aggressive response would be proper. If it is one nut-job "wannabe" terrorist, then the response should be increased defensive screening at airports. One person (Virginia?) posted that terrorist attacks are the legacy of the Bush administration. Seriously? Come on folks, let's be a little more accurate and well-informed. The WTC was attacked once during the Clinton administration. Does anyone care about the USS Cole and that terrorist attack which was not dealt with in an aggressive manner? It finally took Bush to get in office to recognize we are at War with extreme people trying to do harm to our country! Terrorism has existed long before any particular president and isn't a partisan matter. I didn't vote for President Obama, but I have no idea what else he should be doing at this point other than what it appears the government is already doing.

One does get a little tired of the small number of right wingnuts who actually think they are the majority when they speak their Fox daily points. Thank God Fox gave these paid bloggers Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off.

Remember, Obama was elected by a majority of voters, and the moron who preceded him did not get the majority of votes in 2000, but was given the presidency as a gift from the supreme court.

Just love all these people that get upset when anything negative is said regarding Obama, and there is a lot of negative things to say about Obama. These folks just can't take it and start the name calling and tell us to "grow up." Gotta love it, they dished it out for eight years when Bush was in office, but these Obama followers just can't take it when it's dished out their way. Seems to me they are the ones that need to "grow up."

I bet Rush Limbuagh, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and Fake News Corp aka Fox News Network, is going to go on the attack against Obama to boost their approval rating, while becoming fearmoungers scaring people to trust them and go out to protest against the government. While impowering Extremist on the Right against Obama due to color of his skin.
