Obama friend's child hurt on Hawaiian vacation

An ambulance leaves the neighborhood where President Obama and his family are vacationing in Hawaii.

An ambulance leaves the neighborhood where President Obama and his family are vacationing in Hawaii.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (CNN) - The child of one of President Barack Obama's golf partners suffered a cut chin during the president's Hawaiian vacation Monday, prompting a stir when Obama quickly left the course so his partner could attend to the child.

The president and his entourage quickly left the Luana Hills golf course outside Honolulu and an ambulance was called to the vacation home the first family has rented on the north side of Oahu. A White House aide told CNN that the child who was hurt was treated on the scene, but could go to a hospital later as a precaution.

Neither Obama's golf partner nor the child were identified. Aides said no member of the first family was hurt in the incident, details of which were not immediately available.

The president later returned to the course.

- CNN Senior White House Correspondent Ed Henry contributed to this report.

Isn't it almost de rigeur that one gets some sort of scar on one's chin in childhood? Will certainly be a good story later in life! (Wonder how old the "child" was to be on the the golf course.)

Likely only proximity to POTUS necessitated EMS activation.

maybe that's why he did not have time to comment on the terrorist attack in detroit...that explains everything.. whew i feel so much better about our leadership now. for a minute there i thought he didn't care. turns out he just more important things to do. rather than condemn a terrorist attack on american soil.. detroit is in america isn't it?

It seems as if the President can't even get a little 'peace' in this holy season. C'mon now...give him a break...

Bush goes on vacation during a time like this and the press rails him. Obama goes and he's a freakin hero. Hope he enjoyed his golf game. He deserves a break, but so did his predecessor.

Why is this man not at work? I don't want to hear how stressful his job is. Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan don't get any time off. I should know, I spent Christmas in Iraq a few years back. My gunner lost his left hand. Get to work.

what a joke.. check out the three navy seals being prosecuted for allegedly punching a terrorist.. so let's not confuse the obama administration with supporting OUR troops..

A child was injured and thank God she's okay regardless whose child she is. Our children are always important no matter what.

The kid gets a cut on the chin and they scramble an ambulance, what a joke. Just another example of the massive waste this President represents, not to mention he is severely mentally underpowered for the job. It will take many years to undo this guy's mess.

ITs great the NO Tie wearing idiot who does not respect the office...

Sure ran home fast enought when the little kid got hurt...

But he sure could not come home and deal with the TERRORIST attempt attack on the US in Detroit....

    What a joke.

He has lowered the stature of the presidency, has no respect for the office, and he is just an arrogant no it all who does not respect the US.

Glad to hear the young man was okay and didn't need stitches but did Obama have to immediately rush back to the golf course as if he couldn't skip those last few holes he missed? Too bad he didn't give his comments to the nation as fast. I wondered why Biden didn't become more visible but then just read he is off holidaying in the Virgin Islands as well. Can anyone at CNN actually find out how much time he is spending with his two daughters?

He'd better hurry up and issue a sternly worded message to the owner of the house. Of course, they could just photo copy the sternly worded message recently sent to Iran - it will have the same effect.

This isn't really worth the coverage. I don't know how many people are injured everyday... but come one. ANYTHING remotely related to our President gets covered like it's the second coming. It saddens me to say this, but I don't care about this. I hope the child is ok but....

We just had an attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day. The words 'Hawaii' and 'Vacation' and 'Injury' are hardly the words I want to see in association with our president.

You guys are covering it like Obama is some accident prone wild-card. The Obamas are safe.... that IS all that matters at this point. It'd would look horrible if something were to happen to them (especially now). I think it is the FEAR of this possibility (especially after that state dinner mishap) that the media is trying to capitalize on-- that is annoying me.

Stick to more relevant news please.– we look to you guys for useful info.
