Poll names Pelosi, congressional Republicans 'losers'

Pelosi has been named a 2009 loser in a new poll.

Pelosi has been named a 2009 loser in a new poll.

(CNN) - Americans don't believe House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or Congressional Republicans had a particularly good 2009: Both were labeled "losers" in a just-released Gallup poll.

According to the new poll, 50 percent of those surveyed thought Pelosi is among the "losers" of the year while 52 percent said the same for Republicans in Congress. Conversely, only 39 percent think Pelosi is a "winner" while 38 percent gave positive marks to GOP members of congress.

As for other political losers of the year, 61 percent identified South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson - who earned fame after his "You Lie!" outburst at President Obama - and 63 percent named South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, whose exploits with an Argentinean woman were well documented last summer.

But Americans thought the biggest political losers of 2009 were Tareq and Michaele Salahi, whose last name became a verb after the two crashed a White House State Dinner last month. Seventy percent of those surveyed said the Salahi's were losers while only 16 percent identified them as winners.

When it comes to the year's winners, Michelle Obama gets the highest marks with 73 percent of Americans giving the first lady high marks. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton comes in a close second with 70 percent of those surveyed giving her the thumbs up. Rounding out the list is President Obama with 58 percent, and newly confirmed Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor with 57 percent.

Americans were less decided on four other political figures of 2009: Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, radio talk-show host Glenn Beck, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. None received more than 50 percent as either a "winner" or a "loser." Palin came close though: 49 percent of those surveyed thought she was a loser; 46 percent said she was a winner.

The poll surveyed 1,025 Americans from December 11-13 and carries a sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

I think it's very sad that we as Americans come up with these stupid polls.

I agree with most of the data in this article up and until they touch on Sarah Palin. She is not a loser by any stretch. When this woman tells a lie enough, even she begins to beleive it so it is there fore no longer a lie. When you look at everything that has happened to her, you will see that it has always been someone elses fault and never her fault so she is not the problem. It is always someone else. LOL

Other than Pelosi, every other loser is a Republican or the whole party affiliate. Palin only qualifies as an alien form of another planet at 49% loser.

Pelosi has done nothing constructive for this country. She spends millions of taxpayer dollars blowing greenhouse gasses out the tail end of a jet several times a week, concentrates on a worthless and costly healthcare package while Americans need work more than anything else and she's willing to sell out this country by granting all the illegal aliens US citizenship so they'll vote for the liberals. I can't wait to see what 2010 and 2012 will bring. I hope we will be free from the grasp of the present administration that none of us can afford.

Why does cnn slant everything towards the gop. The headline is that pelosi is a loser, when in fact her numbers were better than the gop, palin or beck so maybe the headline should have read PALIN, BECK and GOP BIGGEST LOSERS of 2009.

No one will boycott your site because the world feeds on sleaze. This is the best place to find out what is really wrong with our country and to the depths it has sunk since Jan 20th.It is funny that everyone wants to cancel Jersey Shores but want the Chicago Mafia show in Washington to go on.

And the Republicans expect to win big in 2010 or 2012! Good luck. You first need to convince the majority of Americans that you aren't losers first.

So people still can't stand a woman who is smart, really runs things, speaks her mind, cracks the whip on the people under her, and GETS RESULTS! I wish she represented me. And I note that the losers included one Democrat and ALL the Republicans. That should tell you something.
[and it appears that a lot of people on this site don't understand polls and sampling - if THEY weren't asked, it can't be valid. 🙂 ]

Listening to MPR talk show the other day and they were interviewing a Psychologist expert in facial expressions and how to tell if a person is being truthful or not and lo and behold he said that 90% of people cannot fool us wih false expressions, and that 10%, made up of psychopaths and politicians, are able to fool us.
Isn't that comforting that a Psychologist would put those two groups together and our country is run by them. I know, you are wondering which of the two is running the country...psychopaths or politicians.

I'm a democrat and I agree, Nancy Pelosi is a loser and I would be glad to see her gone as speaker.

And speaking of about the TSA's new rules about no getting out of your seat, no blanket, or reaching into the overhead bin 1 hour before landing. There are also no GPS or internet so you know where you are. Nice job Washington (Bush and Obama) the terriorist have finally won thanks to you. These rules don't really make us any safer, they are just knee-jerk reactions applied by idiots!

The subtitle of this article should be "Making nonsense from nonsensical data." Tareq and Michaele Salahi are not politicians, and what impact did Michele Obama have on anything? The fashion world of sleeveless dresses or an old issue of Better Homes and Gardens? A figurehead being compared to Hillary Clinton or anyone with an incredible amount of responsibility proves the point.

It amazes me that anyone who cares about and is concerned for the future of our country can possibly support the republicans and their
disgraceful actions, continued support of big business and total lack of concern for us or our country.
And, the support for Palin? Although CNN constantly headlines her, even goes to twitter so they can get quotes, anyone of any intelligence is completely turned off by this egotistical, power hungry, hate filled,
    irresponsible person.
Do not ever put much faith in polls CNN publishes as usually are listed to show what they want it to read.

Listening to MPR talk show the other day and they were interviewing a Psychologist expert in facial expressions and emotions etc. He said that 90 % of people are sincere and unable to fake expressions and that 10% of people are able to fool us and that this group is made of of Psychopaths and Politicians. Interesting that these people are running our country. I know, you are probably wondering which of the two are running the country...psychopaths or politicians.

    Dear Rep Pelosi,

You know your job. You got the Presidents left flank and you are a lightnening rod for partisan bashers. Good job! best I've seen at doing it since Tip O'neal (Gingrich was great at it too though i like your policies better). Those who call you a loser do not know the process.

Penazi is the biggest loser. She's a looney fringe lefty with no appeal to the majority conservative, moderate electorate. Of course all she has to do is satisfy those other loons in San Fran. If she's a loser they must also be losers.

As for republicans, I have no allegiance to them but how can you be a winner when everything you propose is dimissed out of hand because it doesn't fit the fringe left mentality. I am conservative and agree with their stands against the bankrupting, socialist, agenda of the democrats and Wingnut.
