(CNN) - If President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, or other members of the administration are having any trouble coming up with some New Year's resolutions for 2010, former top Bush aide Karl Rove is eager to help.
Writing in his weekly Wall Street Journal column Thursday, Rove offers a bevy of goals to the president himself, the vice president, and his top aides.
To the president - Rove says Obama needs to be more clear in what he is thinking - ensuring he doesn't leave a diverse group of people with the impression the president agrees with all of them - and must make sure to "mean what he says:"
Mr. Obama should work on his habit of leaving a room of people with deeply divided opinions thinking he agrees with all of them. That leads to disagreements over essential issues, like the meaning of his pledge to begin withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2011 and the nature of the new military mission there.
To the vice president - Rove says Biden should speak publicly less:
Every time he opens his mouth, the West Wing staff uses him to make the president look good by comparison.
To the president's staff - Rove says they should resolve to orchestrate a few less 'historic moments' and keep the president off TV more.
Why not resolve to have a few less "historic" moments? How many can one president really have, anyway? A little more grace toward his predecessor would help him, as would less TV time. He is wearing out his welcome and his speechwriters—judging by the quality of their work lately.
To White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers - Rove says she needs to keep an eye on those guest lists:
[She] should take a lead from Santa Clause and make her list and check it twice . . . at the White House gates.

His comment about Obama is right on. Obama got elected by saying he isn't Bush and promising "change." The people who voted for him ending up finding they all had somewhat different ideas of what "change" meant, much to their chagrin. I notice BO also tries to, in his words "calibrate" what he says, always leaving himself wiggle room to recalibrate, in case things don't go well.
But what really bothers me is that the "Obamaniacs" always act like there is no wrong with their guy; they always attack anyone who dares to criticize their guy, even if the criticisms are considered valid by a lot of people. Interestingly, it is a similar attitude to how Rove and the Bush administration responded to critics.
And how can anyone debate the issue of Biden keeping quiet? Oh, I guess with insults and namecalling and ignoring the issue.
Karl Rove is an idiot and he is just upset becuase he has become irrelevant. The previous administration needs to just bow out realizing that they messed up this country adn we have someone who wants to fix it!
Stop giving advice and act! There's more "hot air" in Washington then the rest of the US combined. Forget "Politically correct", forget trying to be nice as Obama is. These are not extremist, they are "Terrorists". Quit worring about offending some one. It has come to the point that in-order to watch the nesw you must have a bottle of Pepto and your Blood Pressure pills.
Thank you Mr. Rove for your comments. Irrevelent at best, and revealing the worst.
Rove needs to shut up
Obviously Obama and the loony lefties on this blog won't listen to Karl Rove's very sound advice. Just keep spewing your venoms folks. The election of 2010 is just around the corner for Karl Rove and the Republicans to reap the benefits of the harms this Democratic Congress and this incompetent administration are doing to this country.
Amen, Clint – weasel, indeed. I suppose we should not be surprised at what comes out of the mouth a guy with the nickname "turd blossom". Smart in the ways of dividing the political opposition he may be, but knowing how to win elections is not even remotely the same thing as effective governance. We will be repairing the damage he and his ilk have done for a generation. Or more.
No wonder his wife divorced him. Yeesh. Perhaps he told her to talk less and stop trying to clean up after him as well.
Its "President Obama", not "Mr. Obama". Not once have I ever heard a journalist or other politician title a White President as Mr., not even after their term in office expired. I've read Mr. Obama in this story and on the news this morning during a journalist report. Why is it ok to call the first African American President "Mr." and all White Presidents "President"? This really could be interpreted as racial discrimination. So incredibly disrespecful, yet speaks volumes about the status of visible minorities in the US.
Ewwwww.....Rove is so gross.
Rove's New Year resolution should be to shut up and go away. No wonder his wife divorced him. He's such a snarky jerk.
karl Rove from my perspective drove USA to bankruptcy of ideas to wars, economics to nowhere. I guess he has hangovers on the power he once had,I think he is bored!!!!!!
Rove is nothing but a punk.
Some may not want to hear anything from this man but, he speaks the truth.
Bo-ring. CNN fail.
Congrats on your failed marriage Karl. Obviously your opinions count were it really matters, eh?
What a bunch of whiners you all are! When the next big terrorist attack comes on U.S. soil, and it will – it's just a matter of time – you'll wish that some of those "idiots" were still in the White House. Remember what Orwell said: "People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
