Washington (CNN) – During Hillary Clinton's first year as secretary of state, some foreign governments again gave generously to the foundation of her husband, former President Bill Clinton - but others have not.
Norway gave again last year, with a cumulative total exceeding $10 million, as did Oman, whose total is between $1 and $5 million. But according to the list made public by the Clinton Foundation, other past foreign donors - including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the Dubai Foundation and Brunei - did not give in 2009.
During Hillary Clinton's confirmation hearings to head the State Department, some lawmakers pressed her on whether she might face a conflict of interest if foreign governments or companies gave to her husband's foundation with an eye toward currying favor with her or influencing American foreign policy.
In the end, the Clintons agreed to make public their donor lists, and to have government ethics lawyers review new donations by foreign governments.
The Clinton Foundation's mission is to fight disease and poverty around the world.
Among companies receiving government bailout money, Bank of America again donated in 2009, but prior donors AIG, Citigroup, General Motors and Freddie Mac did not give in 2009.
One interesting entry on the list: Christopher Ruddy, who wrote some of the most scathing criticisms of Bill and Hillary Clinton in the 1990s on ethics matters, and founded the conservative news agency Newsmax.
Richard Mellon Scaife, who bankrolled some of the Clintons' toughest adversaries in the 1990s, has also given to the Clinton Foundation in the past, but was not listed as a donor for 2009.

Arab money buying arab influence. No wonder US oil exploration is off limits. We have more oil in Texas, the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, the tri-state shale oil reserves, off-shore reserves, etc. than ALL of the middle east combined. There's still something unsettling about
a foreign nation being able to give funds
to an organization or any entity run by the
spouse of any Secretary of State at ANY
TIME in history. No matter who the Secretary
of State may be. Republican or democrat,
it just isn't right.
I would hope CItiBank, AIG, etc didn't donate after being bailed out...and Shame on you Bank of America!
Although their foundation is for a very good cause, don't donate when you are getting the bailout!

Why is this news. We all know some countries and individuals give to this worthy foundation. Bill Clinton is still the most beloved president of our time. If he could have run for a third term he would have won hands down. He is truly dedicated to helping the less fortunate and good for him. Why do the republicans have no one that does this. Goes to show after 8 yrs, in office what is GW Bush doing?

Why is it that so many people have such negative views of charity work? Are we so deluded as a society that we truly believe that people can't do good works just because they want to do good? Everytime it is publicized that someone, be it a Clinton, Oprah, Angelina and Brad, do good works for charity, a great many people come out to suggest that they are doing it for devious reasons. Shame on us as a society! It begs the question–how have you given back for all of the blessings that you have? If you can't answer that in a positive manner, then you are the one who needs to think about what you give back.
Is it a conflict of interest for US elected or appointed officials to hold dual citizenship? You betcha.

You called the Clintons "so called Americans" because they set up a foundation to fight disease and poverty around the world? How sad that you think Americans should never help people in other countries. How sad for them and how sad for you.
Or were you upset that other countries were contributing to this world-wide foundation? Apparently, their citizens actually care about what happens to other human beings.
If anyone wonders just how cynical our citizens have become, just read the snide and ugly remarks about a foundation that has been supported by people from all sides of the political arena. George H. W. Bush, Laura Bush, Arnold Schwartzenegger are just a few of the Republicans who have supported the Clinton Global Initiative. From HIV/AIDS, climate change, food safety, energy and poverty, this foundation has an excellent reputation for making progress on some very difficult global issues.
How divided have we become that we aren't willing to work together on anything to improve people's lives. What a shame.
The reason this is news is because Hillary is OUR Secretary of State. When foreign governments give money to OUR SoS this should be documented and released to policy makers and the citizens. Considering Clinton is a representative for U. S. foreign policy, donors outside the U. S., whether governments or individuals, should be acknowledged and investigated. Next, I hope CNN and others should observe her policies and interactions with these different governments. I hope she treats every other nation as equal, but this is the exact reason we have freedom of the press and freedom of information... it helps keep people honest. For the people that whine about Dems and Republicans, continue to bicker over the trivial nonsense. Our dollar continues to get weaker, our nation is going bankrupt, we give billions of OUR tax dollars to foreign nations, and we pay 1.4+ BILLION DOLLARS a day in interest to CHINA and others! Those are just a few of the REAL PROBLEMS we face as a nation. Not whether the two most influential gangs in the U. S. are trying to tarnish each others names.

Pres Clinton complied with the stipulations Congress including the Republicans insisted on during Secretary Clinton's confirmation hearings. This foundation is working hard to help those in need around the world. Pres. Clinton deserves credit for moving to the role of statesman and philanthropist and for keeping his word.Bill and Hillary are both doing a terrific job and their critics need to find something else to do
