Clinton Foundation's 2009 donor list revealed

Clinton Foundation's 2009 donor list was revealed.
Clinton Foundation's 2009 donor list was revealed.

Washington (CNN) – During Hillary Clinton's first year as secretary of state, some foreign governments again gave generously to the foundation of her husband, former President Bill Clinton - but others have not.

Norway gave again last year, with a cumulative total exceeding $10 million, as did Oman, whose total is between $1 and $5 million. But according to the list made public by the Clinton Foundation, other past foreign donors - including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the Dubai Foundation and Brunei - did not give in 2009.

During Hillary Clinton's confirmation hearings to head the State Department, some lawmakers pressed her on whether she might face a conflict of interest if foreign governments or companies gave to her husband's foundation with an eye toward currying favor with her or influencing American foreign policy.

In the end, the Clintons agreed to make public their donor lists, and to have government ethics lawyers review new donations by foreign governments.

The Clinton Foundation's mission is to fight disease and poverty around the world.

Among companies receiving government bailout money, Bank of America again donated in 2009, but prior donors AIG, Citigroup, General Motors and Freddie Mac did not give in 2009.

One interesting entry on the list: Christopher Ruddy, who wrote some of the most scathing criticisms of Bill and Hillary Clinton in the 1990s on ethics matters, and founded the conservative news agency Newsmax.

Richard Mellon Scaife, who bankrolled some of the Clintons' toughest adversaries in the 1990s, has also given to the Clinton Foundation in the past, but was not listed as a donor for 2009.

Bill agreed to much more scrutiny than any other cabinet secretary's spouse. The clinton foundation has done so much good. It shows tremendous grace that Bill agreed to make his donars public considering I am sure some donars don't want to be publicized.

President Clinton should continue with his work. He has the intelligence and the respect around the world to make a huge difference in critical world issues.

President Carter and his wife have done tremendous things through the Carter Center HQ'd in Atlanta. They each picked 3 world issues to focus on. Everything from "river blindness" from polluted water in Africa to mental health and decriminalizing the disease.

I find it so refreshing to see former Democratic Presidents who have the financial means and recognition to spend their retirement still giving back to help humanity. It shows real character and properly-placed values.

Gets money from wealthy nations and helps the poor..........hmm sounds suspisious to me yes sir. If he were a Republican you might call him Christian...but since he is a Democrat he must be a commie. Honestly... if Jesus had not risen from the dead he would be rolling over in his grave at the way you "so called Christians" act when someone wants to help others. "Whatsoever you do to the least of these...." Ring a bell???

The Republicans hate the poor, the elderly, the ill, and the disabled, and claim to be "Christians."

    I DON'T THINK SO!

"Pres. Obama said that we are war with this group then use the miltiary and wipe them out. If today's liberals were in charge in the 1940's Japan and Germany would have won WWII."

With all due respect Mr. Jim, both presidents that were in charge of World War 2 were liberals; President Roosevelt and President Truman. We still won World War 2 with them. Their political beliefs of yesterday, are almost similiar of today. FDR's policies during World War 2 was from the start was to get to the root of the problem; Germany and Japan. President Obama is tackeling the source of the problem as well; Afganistan and Pakistan. FDR attacked from the source, so now is President Obama is attacking the extremists from the source; very similiar strategy today compared to World War 2. So, in conclusion, liberals today would have still won World War 2 given the historical circumstances back then and the similiar policies of yesterday and today.

why do republicans continue to try to tear down Bill Clinton? Maybe it is because he is loved and appreciated the world over. Bill will always draw big crowds for what he has accomplished and will accomplish. I don't think the Republicans have anyone that the world likes.

"Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Barack Obama have great respect throughout the world. Our friends love them and our enemies trust them. Carter, Gore, and Obama are Nobel Prize Laureates"

The problem with posts like above are all of these men have done nothing but give American wealth away and line their own pockets on the way Terry you are either a dumb liberal or on the DNC payroll.

Why would we trust this guy? No matter the excellent purported goal of the foundation, no one with any moral fiber can trust the President who got on TV and lied directly to the American people.

The Clintons, Gores, Carters and Obamas give almost nothing to charity. They create these organizations and that provide them with income. The Bush, Cheneys, Roves, etc give quietly large amounts of cold hard cash to many charities. All you have to do is look at their income tax returns that they make public. The Democrats do not open up their taxes so as to prevent arrests and prison time.

Fact is, Democrats are very generous folk, generous with other peoples money. Republicans are generous with their own money. Look at the tax return of just about any politician. Dems are crooks and thieves, Republican are generous and honest. 97% of all politicans that have gone to jail in the last 50 years have been Dems.

I wonder... will CNN ever bother with stories like this about Bush, Cheney, etc...???? They, along with other media outlets seemed to turn a blind eye to conflicts of interest for the last 8 years.. but now that they can bring them up about Clinton.. someone who holds no elected or appointed office... they make sure its big news.

Let's hope that the Clinton dynasty will go the way of the Kennedy dynasty.
These limo liberal's have slowly but surely weakened both the moral and economic foundation of out country. It never ceases to amaze me that you can argue that we can trust Bill with anything when his wife can't.
I promise you, Bill Clinton is the biggest beneficiary of his foundation.

CNN would be a positive for the survival of humanity if it would simply do stories about the incredible corruption of Obama. But for some reason you will not. Why do you have such an allegiance to him ? From his terrorist advisors (Ayers) to his worshipful admiration of Aliynsky to his desire to emulate Castro and Chavez to the scum bags like Rahm The Tu Tu man.

    And this is important because?

Bill Clinton did more positive good while NOT in office than the previous adminstration did WHILE in office. The Clintons have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place. They succeeded in spades. Contradt that to conservatives who are now announcing that they intend to try to use the courts to skrew over Americans on health care since they could no longer maintain the incomprehensibly bad status quo through the legislature. Conservatives have been against every great reform in our history. It is the essence of conservatism, regardless of the time period. Maintain the status quo and favor the rich and powerful over everyone else. It is the DEFINITION of conservative.

Fox has a lead story about Ben Nelson trying to talk the S.C. AG into dropping his complaint about the Medicare bribe given Nelson by Hairy Reid. Nelson is saying all states will get the same deal . HOW MUCH SENSE DOES THAT MAKE ? The Chinese gonna pay for it?.

This is a wildly bizarre story that puts Obama and Nelson in a bad light. And it will not see the light of day at CNN.

responding to Rev'd Fr. Raymond H. Burgoon-Clark: yes republicans are corrupt, but please, the democrats are so corrupt they have broken trust with the people this year – i voted them in, but watch the people vote them out HARD in 2010 unless Reid, Pelosi, and Obama change course and wisen up. they gave billions to wasteful wall street bonus making corrupt machinations to re-inflate the bubbles, they aim to prop up fake housing value/prices, and from the billions in bailouts, WHERE'S THE NEW PRODUCTIVE CAPACITY? yes energy sector will rise, but repaving roads isn't economic advancement. it's a waste of tax dollars most of the time, unless the road impedes commerce. we gave free billions to wall street, they speculated the bubble back into being, raked in billions, charged us without extending credit, now they have repaid tarp, 30 billion bonused out, and the people are still unemployed – that is CORRUPT, the people know it. dems protected freddie, fannie, and the drug companies who dont want important prescriptions – all corrupt.. sickening. we have work to do!!! blessings to all.

I appreciate what Bill Clinton's foundation is doing to make a difference in our world. I wish the GOP would get over their obstinance and work with the White House and in both houses of Congress to do the same. I appreciate the transparency provided by publishing the donor lists for all to see, but honestly there is a double standard. The GOP wants Dems to jump through hoops while they sit on their rear ends and stubbornly do nothing to help the people of U.S. and the world! To me it's a simple question of right or wrong, and currently most Republicans in Congressare sitting on the wrong side of history. GOP: Get it through your heads that we are all on the same team and let your actions begin positively speaking louder than your worlds to the benefit of people! My goodness, the kindergarten playground antics that GOPers continue to employ are ridiculous!

Hey what is this world coming to?
Clinton Smitons, would still like to know about the Bush Clinton connection during CIA operatives in Arkansas. Wish that would come to light so then we could stop rationalizing the war on drugs and the money we spend to lock up petty drug addicts and dealers.

    @Fitz,

You called the Clintons "so called Americans" because they set up a foundation to fight disease and poverty around the world? How sad that you think Americans should never help people in other countries. How sad for them and how sad for you.

Or were you upset that other countries were contributing to this world-wide foundation? Apparently, their citizens actually care about what happens to other human beings.
    **********************************************
Unlike you Edwin, just because a politician tells me something does not mean I believe it. I'm all for helping people, but I wonder how much of this money came, due to a favor the Clinton(s) dished out. A favor that may have very well cost the taxpayers a lot of money. Keep in mind Edwin most politicians were/are attorneys and you know the saying...."if you hear something coming from an attorney/politicians mouth and his mouth is moving, you can almost bet what you're hearing is a lie." Just saying.

We should use this money to reinvestigate what happened on 9/11. From what I hear there is more to the story besides 19 muslims who had a mud floor cave office and decided to attack us because we are rich and free.
